It’s Earth Day, people. Time to start separating your recycling, buy a Prius and never use aerosol sprays ever again. Ah, who am I kidding? Only hippies live that lifestyle full-time. I’m about to toss my growing pile of empty beer bottles in the regular trash, steal a Hummer and cruise through town spraying Axe body spray out the windows. The O-Zone is soft.

Just kidding.

Earth Day is actually a pretty cool celebration if you know the history behind it. Here’s all the background you need (written in my Official Grown Up voice).

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.

On Earth Day 2016, the landmark Paris Agreement was signed by the United States, China, and some 120 other countries. This signing satisfied a key requirement for the entry into force of the historic draft climate protection treaty adopted by consensus of the 195 nations present at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.

Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on the environmental issues that the world faces. In 2017, the March for Science occurs on Earth day (April 22, 2017) and is followed by the People’s Climate Mobilization (April 29, 2017).

Okay, so maybe you’re not super cereal about the environment or about Earth Day. But, at the very least, you can enjoy the funny Earth Day memes we put together above.

Italian road bicycle racer Michele Scarponi died Saturday morning. He was riding his bicycle when the fatal accident transpired. He was hit by a van at a crossroads. The driver claims he didn’t see Scarponi, who died as he lived; riding his bike.

The Astana team confirmed the news on its website, writing: “This is a tragedy too painful to be written. Our athlete Michele Scarponi died this morning while he was training on his bike close to his home in Filottrano. Michele was hit by a van on a crossroad.”

Michele had just returned home, after finishing in fourth place in Tour of the Alps on Friday. He was only 37-years-old.

Scarponi had been a pro cyclist since 2002. He had participated in numerous competitions, including the 2010 Tirreno-Adriatico; a race where he finished in second place.

Scarponi died in his hometown of Filottrano in the central Le Marche region of Italy.

The Minnesota Wild pulled off a huge comeback in Game 4, after falling to the Blues every other game in the playoffs. As a matter of fact, Wednesday’s game was the first time in the series that the Minnesota team made more than one goal. That’s pretty sad. But the Wild wasn’t feeling blue during their flawless victory in Game 4, when they defeated St. Louis with a score of 2-0.

But Yeo did reveal that the injured center is well on his way to recovery. “It was a good day for [Stastny],” says Yeo. “He’s been progressing well and this was a big step, being able to do a full practice, a competitive practice, so that’s a good sign.”

The one-seed Golden State Warriors didn’t have Kevin Durant for Game 2 against the eight-seed Portland Trail Blazers, but it didn’t matter in the slightest. Golden State sill routed Portland 110-81 to go up 2-0 in the series, giving the Blazers one of their biggest playoff ass whippings in years in the process.

It was a strange night for the Warriors’ offense, as Stephen Curry lead the team in scoring with just 19 points. Curry wasn’t particularly sharp, hitting 6-of-18 from the floor, 4-of-12 from three-point range, and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. At least the legendary JaVale McGee was there to bail him out, scoring 15 points while shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor.

For the Blazers, Moe Harkless lead the team in points (15), rebounds (eight), and blocks (three). I guess that extra $500,000 he earned by refusing to shoot three-pointers put a little pep in his step. Portland shot a dreadful 33.3% from the floor in Game 2, which is not exactly a recipe for success when playing against the high-powered Warriors. If Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, and company can’t knock down some shots in Game 3, they will be staring at a 0-3 deficit.

Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) won the IBF welterweight title on December 7, 2013, as he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Devon Alexander. He would only make one successful title defense against Paulie Malignaggi before dropping his belt to Kell Brook via majority decision on August 16, 2014. The Akron, Ohio native had a chance to win the WBA welterweight title on June 25, 2016, but he was beaten via unanimous decision by champion Keith Thurman.

Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) became the WBC welterweight champ after knocking out Miguel Ángel Rodríguez in the seventh round of their June 21, 2008 bout. He made five successful title defenses until losing a unanimous decision to Victor Ortiz on April 16, 2011.

Berto won a new belt in his very next fight, dispatching Jan Zaveck in the fifth round of their September 3, 2011 bout to win the IBF welterweight title. But since that victory, the Winter Haven, Florida native has struggled quite a bit, going 3-3 in his last six fights. At least he made bank getting smoked by Floyd Mayweather, though.

Erin Marie Moran passed away Saturday afternoon. She is best known for her roles on the hit 1970s show Happy Days and it’s 1980s spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi.

Moran’s body was found in Indiana, after authorities got a call at 4 P.M. ET Saturday from someone reporting an “unresponsive female.” By the time authorities arrived, Moran was already dead. She died of a ‘suspected heroin overdose,’ according to a source from the Daily Mail.

After her fame faded, Moran hit a rough patch. She fell into drinking and wound up living in a trailer park. She eventually ran out of money, and was forced to leave her mobile home with her husband Steve Fleischmann.

Despite hard times, she remained active in the television industry, landing roles on shows such as Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard, and Celebrity Fit Club.

Erin was 56-years-old at the time of her death. An autopsy is still pending.

Henry Winkler, famously known as the Fonz sent out a Tweet about Moran’s passing.

Erin Moran was cast as Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days at only 14-years-old. Happy Days lasted for a decade on prime-time television, from 1974 to 1984. Erin will be remembered worldwide for her great contributions to television and popular culture.

Ethan Rosen, a 19-year-old freshman at Wheaton College, was killed in a hammer-throwing accident while volunteering at the Don Church Twilight track and field competition on Saturday.

What Happened?

Roser, who was from Cincinnati, was volunteering at a Church track and field competition when he was accidentally struck by a hammer. The hammer used in these competitions are usually metal balls attached to a steel wire. The athletes hold a grip at the other end of the wire and spin it repeatedly before releasing it. Mens hammers weigh 16 pounds and women’s weigh just under nine.

Wheaton College says Roser was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grover, where he was pronounced dead.

No other details regarding the incident have been released.

Roser’s family told the Chicago Tribune on Sunday that they are traveling to the school to find out more about what happened.

“We know he’s with Jesus,” his father, the Reverend Mark Roser, said. “And the fact that he’s in paradise is a great source of comfort to us.”

According to school officials, Roser was a 19-year-old freshman soccer player at Wheaton College. He was studying to be a minister. The Chicago Tribune reports that he had transferred to the school in January.

Roser is the youngest of four children and his parents are Christian missionaries. Roser lived in Zimbabwe until he was six.

Caleb Brantley, a defensive lineman who attended the University of Florida, has been charged with misdemeanor battery.

According to a police report obtained by Ian Rapoport, police in Gainesville, Florida say that Brantley hit his alleged victim, 20-year-old Chelsea Austin, in the face and that his “use of force was clearly out of retaliation and not self-defense.”

Brantley, 22, told police that Austin hit him in the face first. Austin confirmed to police that she did strike Brantley initially.

According to the report, Chelsea Austin, 20, claims a man, who was later identified as Brantley by Austin’s friend, punched her in the face during the fight. Austin had a cut on her lip and blood around her tooth, according to the police report. Austin, however, could not identify who hit her.

Brantley, 22, claims Austin struck him in the face first, which Austin later confirmed to police, stating Brantley “disrespected her.” Police say Brantley then pushed her away. He’s listed as the victim in Gainesville PD’s report.

According to the report, multiple witnesses corroborated Brantley’s version of the story. As for Austin, she was later admitted to an area hospital and treated for injuries following the altercation.

Brantley, who was considered by many to be a first round draft pick, did not suffer any injuries. CBS Sports has Brantley ranked as this year’s 47th-best prospect.

Kara Loofborough, a 26-year-old Arizona teacher, was arrested for allegedly sending sexually explicit photos of herself masturbating over video chat to a 13-year-old male student.

Loofborough admitted to both acts when she was arrested on April 20. The seventh-grade teacher also admitted to letting the victim kiss and touch her breasts.

Loofborough faces possible charges of indecent exposure and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

According to police, a father called with concerns about the after-school communication his son was having with his teacher, 26-year-old Kara Loofborough. The 13-year-old victim told police he had talked with Loofborough through Facebook messages and over video chat.

The boy said Loofborough showed him her breasts and her vagina while they talked over video chat in March, according to police.  Police said during the same month Loofborough — while at school — showed the student a video of her performing oral sex on another male.

Loofborough also sent the boy a link to a pornographic website, police said. According to police, when contacted on April 20, Loofborough admitted to showing her genitalia to the boy while video chatting. She told police she was aware that he was only 13 years old.

The Tempe Elementary School District sent out a letter to parents on Friday, April 21 about Loofborough.

The district said Loofborough had been a seventh-grade teacher in the district since August of 2016, but has not been on the Fees College Preparatory Middle School campus since March 15.

According to the district, Loofborough submitted her resignation for “personal reasons” on March 30 – effective for May 1.

“At the time she was hired, she had no criminal history reported based on the District’s fingerprint and record check with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and her background check by the District revealed no adverse findings,” the letter reads.

Loofborough faces several charges, including one count each of furnishing harmful items to a minor, indecent exposure and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

Students at the University of California’s Berkeley campus who invited conservative pundit Ann Coulter to speak are threatening to sue the school if they do not find a proper time and venue for Coulter to speak.

Harmeet Dhillon, a representative for the Berkeley College Republicans, said in a letter sent Friday to Berkeley’s Interim Vice Chancellor Stephen Sutton and chief attorney Christopher Patti that if Coulter is not allowed to give a speech on campus, she will file a lawsuit in federal court because the university is violating the students’ constitutional right to free speech.

School officials told the Berkeley College Republicans on Tuesday, and the nonpartisan Bridge USA which coordinated the event, that it was being cancelled due to security concerns.

Chancellor Nicholas B. Dirks said that police have “very specific intelligence regarding threats that could pose a grave danger to the speaker,” her audience and protesters if the event goes ahead next Thursday.

Officials offered an afternoon event on May 2, when they can offer an “appropriate, protectable venue” but Coulter rejected it, saying she is not available that day. She also tweeted, “THERE ARE NO CLASSES AT BERKELEY THE WEEK OF MAY 2.” The period is known as Dead Week, when students are studying for final exams.

According to Dan Mogulof, a spokesman for UC Berkeley, the campus does not have a venue available for April 27 that UCPD could reasonably assess as “protectable.” Furthermore, he says that the school is concerned about Coulter’s “disregard for the assessment and recommendations of law enforcement professionals.”

This is just the latest in a long line of politically-based strife at UC Berkley since Donald Trump’s inauguration.
