Ever wonder what the deal behind Good Friday is? Well, it’s a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary (not one of humanity’s finest moments, regardless of your faith). It is also observed on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and often coincides with the Jewish holiday of Passover (as the only Jew in my fraternity, I insisted we celebrate “Eastover” every year).

Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday. Basically, it’s got as many names as Daenerys Targaryen.

The day is widely considered a legal holiday in many national governments around the world, including most Western countries. Here in America, 12 states recognize Good Friday as a holiday. They are: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky (half day), Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. In these states, government offices and courts are closed, as well as some banks and postal offices.

For all you finance Bros out there, the stock markets are also closed on Good Friday…(wait for it), BUT the foreign exchange and bond trading markets open for a partial business day in case you’re trying to get your Wolf of Wall Street on. Public schools and universities are also often closed on Good Friday, but that sometimes coincides with spring break.

The day is widely considered a legal holiday in many national governments around the world, including most Western countries. Here in America, 12 states recognize Good Friday as a holiday. Are Banks Open On Good Friday?

As Good Friday is not a federal holiday, many banks will still be open. However, some municipal services and businesses in the 11 states that recognize Good Friday as a holiday may be closed. Two banks that are confirmed to be closing on Good Friday are: BMO Harris Bank and Citibank (select branch locations).

With the Federal Reserve Bank remaining open, the majority of banks will conduct regular business hours to serve their customers. If you live in a state listed above or bank with a Christian financial institution, you should verify hours with your local branches, as those banks or credit unions might choose to close on Good Friday. The New York Auto Show has showcased brand new, top-of-the-line automobiles for over 100 years. This is the time for auto companies to show off their latest and greatest products.

The press already took a peek at these fresh cars before the convention. You won’t have to attend the auto show to see these futuristic masterpieces. But if you’re in the New York City area, you may want to stop by if you have a thing for sexy cars. You’ll have almost a thousand vehicles ripe for your viewing pleasure.

Just don’t leave any fingerprints on the cars. You can look, but please don’t touch.

New York Auto Show Dates & Details

The 2017 New York Auto Show starts on Friday, April 14 and ends on Sunday, April 23. Almost 1,000 cars will be on display for the public. You’ll get to see the newest and most futurist car models and concepts before they hit the market.

The doors of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center will be open to the public at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 14. Monday through Saturday, the show ends at 10:00 P.M. On Sunday, the show closes at 7 A.M. But the opening time of 10:00 A.M. never changes.

Since the year 1900, the public has seen the very best in automobile innovation. Fast forward to 2017, and there has been some insane advances in automobile technology. We’re not exactly riding around in Ford’s Model T anymore.

The 2017 New York International Auto Show will be held in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. You can find this venue on 655 W 34th St in New York, New York.

Reveals

The 2017 New York International Auto Show will feature almost 1,000 cars. But before the show began, the press got a sneak peak at some of the brand new vehicles. You can preview some of the hot new cars on our photo gallery section at the top of the page.

Jaguar revealed a sleek silver sports car called the F-Type, which contains a four-cylinder engine. Dodge released the Challenger SRT Demon; a gorgeous red car with 840 factory horsepower. Toyota revealed a new orange car with a white top called the FT-4X (it’s in the gallery).

You can view gorgeous car models from Audi to Nissan to Mercedes Benz.

There are so many news cars to gaze through, but we won’t know the entire roster of vehicles until the official start of the show.

Schedule

The 2017 New York International Auto Show begins on Friday, April 14 and ends on Sunday, April 23. From Monday through Saturday, the show opens its doors at 10:00 A.M. and closes at 10:00 P.M. But on Sunday, the schedule is slightly different. The auto show closes at 7:00 P.M. only on Sunday. This show opens each day at 10:00 A.M.

Though The Sandlot is an all-time classic sports movie, we might have to rethink the immortal words, “You play ball like a girl.”

Arizona’s Becca Longo, 18, made college football history when she signed a letter of intent to play at Division II Adams State in Colorado. Longo isn’t the first woman to play college football, but she is the first to receive a scholarship to play for an NCAA program at D-II or higher. She was an ace kicker for high school team. In other words, playing ball like a girl is now a definitive compliment.

Longo committed to Adams State earlier this spring and then was celebrated in a signing ceremony of all scholarship athletes at her high school on Wednesday.

“It was like recruiting any other athlete,” Adams State coach Timm Rosenbach told the Arizona Public. “In Division II, we can see their workouts. To me, there is no doubt she can be competitive. She has a strong leg, and she can be very accurate.”

According to the Republic, Longo nailed 30-of-33 point-after tries (PATs) and hit a 30-yard field goal during her senior season.

Rosenbach, who played ball at Washington State and started all 16 games for the then-Phoenix Cardinals in 1990, didn’t seem to think that Longo’s gender was important. He noted that his wife is a former pro athlete and Longo is “a football player who earned it.”

We here at COED aren’t overly tuned in to the D-II sports world, but you can bet Longo will have an office full of fans this upcoming season.

Jay Pharoah is finally opening up for the first time after unexpectedly being fired from Saturday Night Live last year and he isn’t holding anything back.

What Happened?

Pharoah, 29, was let go along with Taran Killiam last August before SNL‘s 42nd season. Pharoah was arguably best known for his Barack Obama impersonation during his six years with the show and his release came as a surprise to fans.

Speaking with New York’s HOT 97 on Wednesday, Pharoah discussed his feelings about his SNL tenure and how he felt limited as just an impressionist.

“You go where you’re appreciated,” he said at first.

“And if you have multiple people on the cast saying things like you’re so talented and you’re so able and they don’t use you and it’s unfair and it’s making us feel bad because they don’t use you and you’re a talent…”

He continued, saying the show puts performers “into boxes,” and he believed his only opportunities on the show were impressions of black celebrities, including former GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson and actor Will Smith.

“They put people into boxes. Whatever they want you to do, they expect you to do. And I’m fiery too…I’m not a ‘yes n—-.’ That’s not me,” he said.

Pharoah, whose popular impressions included rappers Jay Z and Drake, believes that the show “gave up” on him and his Obama character.

“If you really noticed, for the last year and a half, they didn’t do any Obama sketches,” he said.

Jared Antonio Farrow, better known by his stage name Jay Pharoah, is an American actor, stand-up comedian, impressionist, rapper, and voice actor. He joined the cast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 2010, for its 36th season and was let go after six years before the show’s 42nd season.

At least four students were injured after an experimental rocket exploded at the University of Idaho, school officials said early Friday.

What Happened?

The explosion took place in a parking lot on campus next to a steam plant, the University of Idaho said. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and took the injured students to Gritman Medical Center, the university confirmed on Twitter.

The University of Idaho also confirmed that the parents of the victims had been notified, saying that all victims were “alert” and “communicating” with school personnel. Their identities and injures are not known at this time.

The explosion was the result of the Northwest Organization of Rocket Engineers club testing rocket fuel it had created, according to member Grant Thurman. The University of Idaho has said the incident was not a bomb threat. The FBI did arrive on the scene, which Moscow police said is standard operating procedure.

Lisa Rogers, a guidance counselor at Blanco Middle School in Texas, has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a student. Here’s the full story.

What Happened?

Lisa Rogers, who leads the Blanco Middle School’s guidance and career department, was detained on Tuesday. Rogers, who is a mother, is accused of having an “inappropriate relationship” with a student at the school. Parents were informed with a letter on Wednesday.

‘It is with heavy heart that I am writing to notify you that, yesterday evening, Blanco school officials were notified that Blanco Middle School counselor Lisa Rogers has been arrested and is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

‘There is an ongoing criminal investigation, but we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of all of our students remain our highest priority.

‘We are providing counseling services to students on our high school and middle school campuses, and will do everything we can to support them during this time.

‘Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the need to be vigilant in protecting student privacy, there is no further information the District can share regarding this matter.

‘I thank you for your continuing support of our students and our school community.

‘If you have any questions about this, please contact me directly.

‘Thank you very much.’

The district also released a statement on the issue:

‘Blanco Independent School District is aware that Lisa Rogers has been arrested and is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

‘The district can offer no further details, but very much appreciates the respect and care our community has shown for our students and staff during this difficult time.’

Lucasfilm has just unveiled the very first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and I seriously think I could die and become one with the Force right now. Check out the trailer below.

Star Wars fans old and new have been looking forward to seeing and hearing from Luke Skywalker for over twenty years. In the new trailer we’re also introduced to some new characters like Rose (played by Kelly Marie Tran), who’s not a soldier, not looking to be a hero, but she gets pulled into this big adventure with Finn. Rose is a maintenance worker in the Resistance.

Before the trailer launched, we were treated to scenes of Rey on Ach-to, where we last saw her with Luke Skywalker. Below you can see a screenshot of her with the Millennium Falcon.

The Last Jedi is the highly-anticipated sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed $2.2 billion worldwide to become the third-biggest money making movie of all time. As the first Star Wars movie in 10 years (and the first good one since 1983), The Force Awakens helped reinvigorate the franchise by playing to older fans and attracting an entirely new generation of wannabe Jedis. The Last Jedi will look to build on that success while continuing to maintain interest in the Star Wars one-offs (Rogue One, Young Han Solo movie, etc.).

Based on this first trailer, The Last Jedi should have no problems attracting audiences and building on the foundation that The Force Awakens established.

The first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has dropped and Oh. My. God. is it wonderful. We know you’re probably busy watching the footage on an endless loop for the next 12 hours straight, but in case you want to slow it down a bit, we’ve grabbed all of the best screenshots from the trailer. Now you can examine the teaser shot by shot because what else are you going to do on a Friday night, ya know?

A group of young punks resorted to violence after they were unable to get in a late night hoop sesh at the Delta Chi house at Troy University. According to Detective James Taylor, the squad of approximately 50 teenagers arrived to the frat house between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on April 2, eager to ball out of their goddamn minds.

When Delta Chi told them to leave their back patio, these dudes were not having it. The high schoolers started throwing hands in a brawl that sounded to be absolutely chaotic. Here’s The Tropolitan with the details on the fight.

Several brothers suffered minor facial and bodily injuries. Some sported bruises on their faces, and others had their shirts ripped or covered in blood. One stumbled around while trying to cover what appeared to be a nosebleed.

A few brothers, Taylor said, also had to be taken to Troy Regional Medical Center for some cuts, but no one had to stay overnight for severe injuries.

Jesus, these kids must really love their basketball. If some frat bros told me to beat it when I was in high school, I would have hightailed it out of there with no questions asked. But times have changed and kids are barbaric these days, willingly to launch haymakers in an instant. An explosion near a bus convoy waiting to enter the Syrian city of Aleppo has killed or wounded several people, pro-government media outlets, pro-opposition activists and a monitor have reported.

What Happened?

According to a military media unite overseen by Damascus ally Hezbollah, a suicide attacker detonated a car bomb near the bus convoy.

Pictures posted by state media reveal the aftermath of the blast, with dead and injured lying on the ground and fires engulfing automobiles.

The blast was concentrated on the Rashidun area of Aleppo’s outskirts, where dozens of buses carry a mostly Shiite residents of two villages that are undergoing evacuations due to a deal between the opposing factions that has them waiting to enter the city.

It is unknown how many people have been killed and injured.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports casualties and says the explosion appeared to be the result of a bomb.

The buses had been stationed outside the city since Friday while the evacuation deal halted.

Aleppo, Syria

Aleppo is a city in Syria, serving as the capital of the Aleppo Governorate, the most populous Syrian governorate. In recent years, it has been at the center of the Syrian Civil War, with an increasing amount of citizen casualties, including children.

One of the favorites to hoist the coveted Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy this year are the Cleveland Cavaliers. The defending champs went 51-31 in the regular season, which was good for the two-seed in the Eastern Conference. Indiana had a solid 42-40 campaign, and Paul George posted a second straight terrific season after suffering that devastating knee injury.
