Notre Dame Taps Mike Elko as New Defensive Coordinator

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced this week that former Wake Forest defensive coordinator Mike Elko has been hired in the same role for the Fighting Irish. He replaces Brian VanGorder, who was fired after last year’s 1-3 start.

Coaching Details

Elko helped Wake Forest reach its first bowl game since 2011 with a defense that ranked among national leaders.

“Mike does a lot of things that are hard to decipher, but easily taught,” Kelly said. “He does an incredibly efficient job at communicating what he’s teaching.”

Wake Forest, ranked 40th in the nation in total defense, racked up some impressive numbers last season. The Demon Deacons were third in fumbles recovered, 10th in turnovers forced, 12th in sacks, 17th in defensive touchdowns, 17th in red-zone defense and 20th in scoring defense.

Elko, an Ivy Leaguer as a linebacker at Penn, isn’t some new kid on the block either. This marks his 12th year as a defensive coordinator.

He was first named a defensive coordinator at the green age of 29 at Hofstra. He spent three years at the Long Island school before joining Dave Clawson at Bowling Green State in the Mid-American Conference to serve as his coordinator for five seasons. Then he followed Clawson to Wake Forest in the ACC for the past three.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame has seven returning starters on the defensive side of the ball. The defensive linemen are senior senior Andrew Trumbetti and junior Jerry Tillery. The linebackers are senior Nyles Morgan and junior Te’von Coney. The secondary includes sophomore cornerback Julian Love, senior safety Drue Tranquill and sophomore Devin Studstill.

That unit, which had slipped to 103rd in total defense, finished the year ranked 40th with Hudson and Kelly coaching it. The Irish have four 4-star recruits and three 3-star recruits and behind them sit 5-star defensive end Daelin Hayes and 4-star defensive end Khalid Kareem.

At Wake Forest, the only 4-star recruit dating back to 2012 was quarterback Kyle Kearns in the Class of 2015. Elko worked his magic with 3-star and 2-star players, while also coaching up walk-ons. Putting him in one of the most popular schools in the country should work wonders for the Fighting Irish.

Chicks dig the long ball, but you already knew that. Judging from these baseball WAGs, though, they also dig pitchers, catchers, and even retired baseball players. In fact, it seems as though baseball players have among some of the hottest wives and girlfriends of athletes in any sport. In fact, there are three Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models currently dating baseball superstars–more than any other sport. Kate Upton, Adriana Lima, and Hannah Davis Jeter, are all currently involved with hardball legends.

Probably the greatest new addition, though, is Alexandra Cooper, a stunning blonde dating Mets Pitcher/ Thor-lookalike: Noah Syndergaard. The Boston University soccer player took center stage when she was caught courtside with the Mets pitcher a few weeks ago, and people haven’t stopped talking about her since.

Ranking All ‘Fast and Furious’ Movies From Worst To Best

$

Did anyone ever expect the Fast & Furious franchise to become what it did back when Vin Diesel was just ripping off truck drivers for VCRs in the first movie? Seriously, how has it become a multi-billion dollar franchise?

It’s honestly astonishing how far the series has come from those humble early days. With the eighth film in the series, The Fate of the Furious, hitting theaters this weekend, we thought now would be a great time to rank the Fast and Furious movies.

7. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Why is the Yakuza hanging out with high school kids? What the hell is the point of Lil Bow Wow’s character? Why can’t Lucas Black deliver any lines without sounding like male version of Siri?

Tokyo Drift should have totaled the franchise. It’s sloppy, uninspired and high on the unintentional comedy scale. I don’t think there’s a single redeemable quality about this entry. Anyone care to argue?

6. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

The second installment rightly receives a smorgasbord of hate, but I don’t think it’s the worst movie ever made. With Vin Diesel speeding out of the franchise, 2 Fast 2 Furious had the unenviable task of replacing its main star. The sloppy and directionless sequel stalls frequently without him, but there’s enough goofy schlock to enjoy to get you through the picture.

Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pierce and Ludacris’ Tej Parker are always good for a few laughs and there’s something about the unabashed idiocy of the film that just works.

Plus, Eva Mendes. You can’t go wrong when Eva Mendes is involved. #Facts.

5. Fast and Furious (2009)

Fast and Furious reunites Paul Walker and Diesel and somehow sets the stage for even more sequels. In doing so, it leaves this particular outing somewhat out of gas. Sure, we all love the periodic Brian V Dom: Dawn of Engine Failure battle scenes. But the race/chase scenes don’t match the visceral excitement as previous installments. It also doesn’t help that this movie is bogged down by a gratuitous amount of laughable CGI.

Overall, Fast and Furious is one of the weakest of the bunch.

4. Fast and Furious 6 (2013)

Fast Five pushed the franchise to the far corners of the globe while Furious 7 embraced the blockbuster mentality to full effect. In between, Fast and Furious 6 helped set up some overarching guidelines while reaching peak ridiculously-stupid-but-I-kind-of-love-it levels of stunts.

Bottom line, Furious 6 is a plain old good action movie. It’s helped by Dwayne Johnson’s expanded role (hint: more Rock is always a good thing) and the movie’s lack of self-seriousness. Really, we just want to have fun in these movies.

3. Furious 7 (2005)

Full disclosure: I didn’t love Furious 7 as much as its $1.6 billion worldwide gross would suggest. But, it’s hard to beat a classic old west-reminiscent revenge story. Jason Statham is out for vengeance because Dom and the squad messed with his little brother (Luke Evans). Alright, sounds kind of dumb, but I’m game because I love explosions and whatnot.

Kurt Russell as Mr. Nobody adds another interesting flash to the mix while Brian and Dom jump skyscrapers in their cars. Plus, The Rock goes full Rock in this one and it’s glorious.

But the real highlight of Furious 7 is the emotional beating heart it shows in the deft handling of Paul Walker’s death. That finale scene, man…Dammit, who is cutting onions?!?!

2. The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Ain’t no school like the old school.

The original film is clearly a Point Break knockoff with cars, and even if it isn’t as well put together as its surf-centered predecessor, it still helps to build a fun foundation that would become an expanded upon template for the rest of the series.

Dom, Letty, Mia, Vince, Jesse and Brian are the Family 1.0 that get somewhat replaced with Roman, Han, Gisele and Hobbs in later films. The initial relationship between Brian and Dom is a well-seasoned character point and even if the cheesy CGI and early aughts soundtrack don’t hold up, the themes do.

1. Fast Five (2011)

Dwayne Johnson should be renamed The Rock: Franchise Saver. He is Beyonce for boys and I will literally see any movie he is in.

Beyond his addition, moving the action to Brazil helped kickstart the Fast and Furious franchises’ wise strategy of jet setting around the world. It gives the film an exotic sense of fantastical fun. These aren’t just American butts the camera is zooming in on anymore.

Finally, Fast Five helps the series transition away from low-stakes scores and into high-stakes heists and drama. In other words, shit gets serious here.

‘The Leftovers’ vs. ‘Fargo’: Which Of These Is The Better ‘Best Show On TV’?

$

If you’re the type of person who interrupts conversations about Game of Thrones to let everyone know you “just don’t have time for TV” because of how busy your life is… Well, we probably don’t like you. Television is great; it distracts us from the monotony of everyday life and entertains us to no end. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a vegan. Or a fan of The Walking Dead.

Lucky for TV addicts, this week sees the return of what many consider to be the two best shows on television: HBO’s The Leftovers and FX’s Fargo. Both series are coming off of stellar second seasons that left fans and critics in awe (I believe the kids these days would say it was “lit”). But which show is the undisputed best on TV? So glad you asked because we’re about to debate just that.

Eric, will you please present your opening statement?

Eric – Team Leftovers

In my day, I’ve probably watched more TV than the average person, but that said, probably not as much as you, Brandon. But I have been watching ‘prestige’ TV for a while now, starting with, ironically, Damon Lindelof’s Lost. But of all the shows I’ve seen throughout my life — from the juggernauts like Lost, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos, to the little guys like Peaky Blinders, Humans, and Justified — The Leftovers has provided the most wholly emotional experience of any television show, and frankly, any form of art I’ve ever seen.

To me, that’s why we invest in any art form: emotion. Breaking Bad’s inherent success didn’t stem from its taut storytelling, but because you cared about, rooted for, and then maybe eventually despised, Walter White. People didn’t adore The Sopranos because of the accurate depiction of mob culture — they loved it because, deep down, they were always rooting for Tony to get away. David Chase cutting to black was so impactful not because people needed to know what happened, but because they wanted Tony to live.

Sure, a plot twist here or a well-written soliloquy there provides the necessary excitement and edge-of-your-seat entertainment that all great shows require, but if you don’t love the characters and the world, what’s the point? When it comes to The Leftovers, we’re talking about a show that has ended its first two seasons with almost identical scenes (and I’m predicting now the third and final will be similar) — the mere facial expression of a character. And you don’t get away with that because you’ve been fooling the audience with timeline twists or blowing them away with witty Sorkin-esque dialogue. You get there because you’ve created characters that the audience genuinely loves, and to me, that’s the point of the medium that is television.

Your move.

Brandon – Team Fargo

Oh Eric, Eric, Eric. While I respect your pop culture opinion and share your deep appreciation for The Leftovers, I can’t in good conscious favor it over FargoThe Leftovers forces audiences to question everything: spirituality, science, the supernatural, grief, loss and family. Thematically, it’s as satisfyingly stacked as a tasty Big Mac. But to pull this off, Lindelof once again feels the need to deliberately confuse his audience for the sake of WTF-ness. I don’t need answers to every last question; on the contrary, I enjoy entertaining my own interpretations. But at some point, the show loses a touch of its meaning when viewers are constantly debating what’s real and what’s not. Purposeful misdirection can be useful, but it can also undercut the very emotion you speak of.

Fargo, on the other hand, makes the straight forward look dizzyingly eccentric (think Willy Wonka plopped into a murder mystery). TV is an art form where I embrace innovation. From storybook narration and UFO’s to out-of-left-field flashbacks and unexpected time jumps, Fargo is unafraid to experiment with content, form and structure while telling finite tales. From a pure storytelling perspective, it’s the most unique show on TV.

You say characters are the single-most crucial element to a successful series and I completely agree. So what does it say about Fargo, an anthology that reinvents itself from year-to-year, that it manages to develop three-dimensional characters that audiences relate to and care about in the span of just 10 episodes. The Leftovers, meanwhile, struggled in its first season before finding its footing in its most recent go-around.

Both shows are great, but Fargo‘s blend of dark humor, quirky characters, smidgen of absurdity and inventive imagination put it ahead of the relentlessly dour Leftovers.

So, Eric, what about Fargo turns you off?

Eric – Team Leftovers

It’s not so much about was Fargo doesn’t do, but rather what The Leftovers continues to do. Besides, the internet is filled with negative opinions, so instead of ranting about what I don’t like about Fargo, I’ll opine over what I love about The Leftovers. While my first point was more ideological, I’ll make my second and final point more about the fundamentals of the show: cinematography, writing, characters, etc.

The Leftovers is renowned for its cinematography. Now, I’m not going to sit here and pretend to be some sort of expert, but I do indeed have eyeballs, and these eyeballs have seen a lot of cinematography, and The Leftovers is damn good. Not since the first season of True Detective have I seen such haunting camera work. And if you don’t want to take my eyeballs’ word for it, just hit the Google Machine for a couple of reviews, like this one from Collider:

You really feel the show take advantage of the Australia setting, and it’s visually dynamic in a way that honestly rivals Game of Thrones—albeit from a more human, grounded, realistic perspective.

Now, as for the writing, you wanna talk about Chekov’s gun? The Leftovers is a master class in such. Every action has a reaction and ever element introduced has a payoff. Lindelof learned from his ‘make it up as you go’ approach on Lost, so you bet your ass that every plot thread or character arc introduced in The Leftovers is paid off — whether that be by the end an episode or throughout the course of a season.  The Leftovers is unconcerned with being a ’10 hour movie’: its episodes both stand alone individually and drive an overarching narrative — meaning you get the instant gratification of complete episodes that are entertaining in a vacuum, as well as a coherent, season-long story.

Finally, as for the characters, and the reason I think a serialized drama has an advantage over an anthology, is that the audience spends YEARS with a character, as opposed to 10 weeks a year. Building on the past decisions and mistakes of a character makes the ultimate happy ending or tragic downfall of a character that much more rewarding, or devastating.

I watched Jon Snow grow from an unwanted bastard into a leader of men for four years. Then I watched him die and thought he was dead (not really) for another year. Then I watched him come back to life! I watched Jack and Sawyer fight over Kate’s love for six years, and every time one of them lost, it broke my heart.

I’ve been hoping to see Kevin Harvey survive whatever it is that may kill him for years now, ironically, since Fargo premiered. So, while Fargo fans have been introduced to dozens of characters who have come and gone, I’ve been rooting for one, and I believe that makes for the more powerful experience.

Brandon – Team Fargo

Woah, woah, woah; slow your roll before you suddenly depart too. “They don’t have the luxury of starting fresh every season?” It’s more like Fargo has the burden of starting over every season and being forced to invent new stories and characters out of thin air. And they do it flawlessly.

Again, I respect and like The Leftovers, but if you want to talk fundamentals, look no further than season two of Fargo.

The last installment of the anthology series may very well have been a perfect season of television, and I say that as someone who has spent far too many Friday nights alone on his couch binge watching TV. Good characters? Hanzee Dent proved to be one of the most layered TV villains in recent memory (less outright evil than Gus Fringe). High-quality cinematography? Season two somehow managed to make the Midwest in winter look like a viable vacation destination.

But if you want to bring in outside help, I match your Google search and raise you with the go-to source on all things TV, Uproxx’s Alan Sepinwall:

There have been a lot of moments to hold your breath so far with “Fargo.” First, would it be a complete fiasco that might somehow sully our memories of the film? Then, once it was obviously good, how long could it keep it up? Then, would it satisfyingly tie up its sprawling story? And then, could the show possibly do it again for another season?

Exhale. By now, it’s clear that the first season wasn’t a fluke, or a miracle, but a sturdy piece of work made by people who have a fundamental command of this world and its tone, and who can reasonably be expected to keep it going for a while.

Is The Leftovers good TV? Absolutely. But does Fargo have a greater sense of flair and better rewatchability thanks to it season-by-season format? “Oh geez, you betcha!”

Eric – Team Leftovers

All I’m sayin’ is, find me an anthology drama that is held in as high a regard as a serialized drama. Not saying it’s a gimmick, just saying it doesn’t necessarily stand the test of time. In 10, 15 years, people will be talking about The Leftovers, not Fargo … that is, of course, unless the world’s circumstances don’t depart us before then.

The Leftovers returns to HBO on Sunday, April 16. Fargo returns to FX on Wednesday, April 19.

John Mayer Brought Out Dave Chappelle Mid-Concert To Honor Charlie Murphy

Man, Chappelle went from being nowhere for a decade to being everywhere all the time.

On Wednesday, April 12, comedian Charlie Murphy lost his battle with leukemia, passing away at the age of 57. That night, Dave Chappelle popped up at a John Mayer concert in his home state of Ohio to pay tribute to his fallen friend.

After Chappelle did what he does best — rambling on about his experiences — for a bit, Mayer played an emotional version of “You’ll Live Forever In Me” to honor his fallen friend.

Obviously, Murphy’s passing was particularly impactful to Chappelle, as Murphy famously appeared on Chappelle’s Show, serving as the source material for the show’s most memorable sketches: Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories.

Aside from Chappelle’s Show, Charlie also co-wrote several of his brother Eddie’s movies, such as Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn. He had notable roles in Are We There YetThe Boondocks and Black Jesus. Recently, Charlie toured with comedians Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on “The Comedy Get Down.” His stand-up special, Charlie Murphy: I Will Not Apologize, premiered on Comedy Central in late February 2010.

Also, shout out to this guy for directly ignoring Chappelle’s advice and filming the hell out of this, cause it was a great moment. RIP Charlie.

As we all unfortunately know, the great Charlie Murphy passed away on Wednesday, April 12 after battling leukemia. The 57-year-old comedian was the older brother of Eddie Murphy, and he was best known for his hilarious work on Chappelle’s Show.

To honor the life of Murphy, John Mayer brought out Dave Chappelle at his concert last night at the Value City Arena at Ohio State University. The pair cracked jokes and shared memories, and Mayer dedicated his performance of “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me” to Murphy. Watch the touching tribute in the video below.

That was awesome. I’d like to think that Murphy was smiling and shaking while he looked down on the performance. Goddamn, I’m going to miss that guy.

If you haven’t seen the “White People Dancing” sketch that Mayer and Chappelle referenced, you should definitely check it out here (Part 1 & Part 2). Dave yelling Spanish gibberish will never not be hysterical.

And here are some of my favorite Murphy sketches from Chappelle’s Show. Rest in peace, TyRee.

Capitals vs. Maple Leafs Live Steam: How To Watch NHL Playoff Game Online

The Capitals and the Maple Leafs are each other’s first stop on the postseason train. With a second-round spot on the line, both of these franchises will throw everything they’ve got at each other to in order to stay in it and win it. Both teams have a very turbulent history, both struggling to keep up with the postseason pressure. Let’s take a look at these two teams’ playoff history.

The Capitals easily make the playoffs every year, but just can’t seem to turn their regular season success into playoff success. Washington has only made it to the Stanley Cup once and was soundly defeated by the Red Wings in 1998. Since that Cup loss, the Capitals haven’t been able to get past the first two rounds of the playoffs. Every year it feels like it’s the same story: Caps are at the top of the standings and are always the Eastern conference favorites to make the Cup. Yet every year the Caps seem to sink when they need to stay afloat, causing disappointment for the teams and fans. This is a big year for the Caps as they have a solid team, solid coaching, and a solid goaltender, so nothing is stopping them from getting over their postseason blues. It is never a good time when your team is associated with choking, so the Caps have a chance to cleanse their history in this year’s playoffs.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the last time the Leafs won a cup, so congrats on that Toronto. Not only do they have the longest drought of not winning a cup, but they also have the longest drought of appearing in the Stanley Cup finals. While the team has a very large and proud fanbase that always fills the Air Canada center, their fans just can’t seem to catch a break. The last time the Leafs were in the playoffs was way back in 2013, where they were able to force a game seven against the Boston Bruins. The Leafs looked like they had already punched their second round ticket, as they had a 4-1 lead over the bruins in the third period Bruins scored three straight, forcing and overtime which ultimately led to a Bruins win. Toronto and Toronto fans were apoplectic of how quickly things turned sour, though the Leafs fans got their just deserts as Boston lost the Blackhawks in the cup finals due to the Hawks comeback in game six. The Leafs also had a shot at clinching the third spot in the playoffs, but two straight losses knocked them down the wild card spot, forcing them to play the number one Caps. This postseason means a lot to the Leafs for any season they get a spot at in the playoffs, means another season they can possibly end the drought.

The history of these two teams has already been written and both teams are looking to exorcise their playoff demons. With both teams trying to prove something and do whatever it takes to win the Stanley Cup, get ready for an exciting series. In Case You’re Curious How Hard We Bodied ISIS Today, Here’s An Explanation Of The Bomb We Used

via History Channel

So, America bombed the hell out of some ISIS clowns who were hanging out in the hills of Afghanistan.

For those who want a more technical explanation, here you go: the United States dropped the largest conventional bomb in the American arsenal, known as the “mother of all bombs,” on an ISIS complex in Afghanistan on Thursday, the Pentagon said.

According to a statement from the Pentagon, the bomb — officially called a ‘GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast — struck a tunnel complex in the Achin district of Nangarhar Province,  Afghanistan. They did not say how many militants were killed.

According to Adam Stump, a spokesman for the Pentagon, Thursday’s strike was the first combat use of GBU-43/B. The bomb was dropped from an MC-130, a cargo plane with a rear door.

Sean Spicer addressed the bombing during his Thursday’s White House press briefing, saying:

“We must deny them operational space, which we did,” referring to the Islamic State in Afghanistan.

As for the bomb itself, check out this quick little video from The History Channel about the type of devastation the MOAB causes.

Officer Robert McDonald: Full Story & Must-See Details

Officer Robert McDonald, a Gwinnett County police officer in Georgia, has been fired after footage of a traffic stop shows him stomp a handcuffed man in the head.

What Happened?

On Wednesday afternoon, officer Robert McDonald responded to assist a supervisor with a traffic stop.

The video, which was described as “very disturbing” by a police spokesperson, was captured on a cell phone by another driver in traffic. An ambulance responded to the scene and treated the man.

In the incident report, the officer said he stopped the vehicle because it did not have a license plate and instead a blank piece of white cardboard where the tag should have been.

While approaching the car, officers reported the person inside appeared to be placing or grabbing something from under his seat.

The man in the car, Demetrius Hollins, attempted to restart his car. Police directed him to leave the car off. Police report they smelled marijuana from the car and told the drive he had been pulled over for changing lanes three times without using a signal.

Hollins handed the officer his license and “began to act strange,” according to incident report. He started yelling “I need to call my mom” and “You have to let me go”.

The officer then realized he had arrested Hollins in August 2016 for having marijuana and a loaded gun in the car. At this point, he requested backup.

“Sir, calm down and let me do my job. I have to make sure your license is good and that the car is not stolen,” the officer said.

Hollins replied, “It’s not stolen anymore. They stole it from me but I got it back.”

Police then asked him to repeat what he just said.  Hollins started yelling, “The kids in the neighborhood stole it so I stole it back. It’s mine!”

Officers ordered Hollins out of the car, to which he refused. McDonald then told him that he was under arrest.

“Get out. You are under arrest. Do it now or I will tase you,” McDonald yelled.

Hollins turned away from the officer. McDonald reported in the incident log that he feared Hollins would reach for a weapon or try to start the vehicle and drive off. In the August 2016 incident, he allegedly reached for a loaded firearm under his seat.

The officer then grabbed Hollins by his shoulder inside the vehicle and pulled him out. At first, Hollins put his hands up. The incident reports indicates Hollins resisted. McDonald then deployed his taser.

The shift commander initiated an immediate investigation into the incident, according to Gwinnett County Police. The Police department announced Thursday afternoon they also launched a criminal investigation that will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.

“What happened yesterday was clearly outside of state law and department policy. We do not tolerate actions that are not consistent with our core values or state law,” a police statement said.

Which team will rise to the forefront this year? The Oklahoma Sooners won last year’s competition. The Georgia Gymdogs have won the most NCAA titles (10 overall). So, who could it be this time?

I’ll let you take a look at each team’s history, and you decide which team has the best chance of victory in 2017.

Oklahoma Sooners’ Women’s Gymnastics Team

These girls from Oklahoma won the entire tournament last year. They’ve won two NCAA Gymnastics Championship in total (2016, 2014). In 2014, Taylor Spears won first place in that tournament’s balance beam competition.

The team with cream and crimson colors is hoping to capture first place once again.

Georgia Gymdogs Women’s Gymnastics Team

This team from the University of Georgia has an outstanding winning record. They’ve won 10 national championships in total. The Gymdogs are such a winning team that they’ve won the most tournaments in the last 20 years.

But the last time the Georgia Gymdogs won this tournament was way back in 2009. They’ll be looking to make a yuge comeback in 2017. Can the team in red and black win again?

UCLA Bruins Women’s Gymnastic Team

The team from UCLA is another squad with a great winning record. The Bruins won six national championships since 1997. However, The University of California has produced a winning gymnastics team since 2010.

Can the Bruins make a come back after lying in the dust for almost half a decade? The team that wears blue and gold is definitely going to try to win again.

Alabama Crimson Tide Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Crimson Tide has been red hot for years. They’re six-time NCAA National Champions. But that’s not all. They’re also eight-time SEC Champions, as well as record-breaking 29-time Regional Champions.

The Tide has been known for winning (a lot). However, they haven’t won a national championship since 2012. Will 2017 be different for the team wearing white and crimson?

Florida Gators Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Florida Gators may not have as many NCAA wins under their belt as The Crimson Tide or Bruins. But the Gators’ NCAA victories are much more recent, and while those teams are losing steam, the Gators are rising to the surface.

This Florida team has won three NCAA Championships in total (2013, 2014, and 2015). Up until last year, it seemed like there was no stopping the Gators. That’s until the Oklahoma Sooners silenced everyone else with a stellar performance and valiant victory.

Can the team wearing orange and blue pull off the win once again?

Utah Utes “Red Rocks” Women’s Gymnastics Team

Utah’s Red Rocks have always been super hot at gymnastics. They’ve won 10 national championships in total; one-time AIAW National Champions and nine-time NCAA Champions. They’re such a winning team that they’ve qualified for every single NCAA Championship tournament (the only team in the league to do so).

Can the team wearing red and white pull off the good fight? They haven’t won a national championship since 1995. That’s a huge drought for such a great team.

Oregon State Beavers Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Beavers are hungry for a win this Friday. Collectively, they’ve never won the NCAA Championship (as a team). But individually, members of the Beavers have won NCAA Championships during individual events such as the balance beam and national floor championships.

Can the team wearing orange and black pull off a championship victory?

Michigan Wolverines Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Wolverines have made it to the dance 22 times, but have never won it all. However, they are 12-time Regional Champions. They’re also former 21-time Conference Champions and 16-time Big Ten Champions.

Can the team wearing dark blue and the color of corn (maize) pull off their first NCAA Championship victory?

Nebraska Cornhuskers Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Cornhuskers are another team with a rather dominant history. They are nine-time Big 12 Champions, a record that has never been duplicated or broken.

But that’s not all. This Nebraska team is also 11-time Big Eight Champions, 3-time Big 10 Champions, and 5-time NCAA Regional Champions.

Can the team wearing scarlet and cream win the big one?

LSU Tigers Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Tigers are the 2017 Conference Champions. The last time they won that title was way back in 1981. They’ve competed in the NCAA National Championship 33 different times, yet have never came out on top. They came closing to securing the NCAA Championship in 2016, but ended up in second place behind Oklahoma.

Can the team wearing purple and gold finally win a national championship?

Denver Pioneers Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Pioneers have never made it past 10th place in the NCAA Championship. However, they now have a hold of the Scholar Athlete of the Year in Leah Lomonte. Hopefully, Lomonte and her teammates can break past this lack of championship glory.

This Denver team wears crimson and gold. But are they bold enough to pull off the win?

Washington Huskies Women’s Gymnastics Team

The Huskies aren’t decorated with championships like the other teams. But they’ll definitely be hungry for a first time win in Chaifetz Arena.

Can the Washington team pull off a huge victory this weekend? Can the team in gold and purple become the new NCAA Champions?

Blackhawks vs. Predators Live Steam: How To Watch NHL Playoff Game Online

Ready for some great hockey? ‘Cause this matchup should be a thriller, as the Blackhawks and Predators will go toe to toe in order to stay alive in the 2017 NHL postseason. The playoffs tell a different story to each team, as the Blackhawks have found Stanley Cup success in recent years, while the Predators are always been in the mix to win it, but always come up short. This year, both teams are back in the game and both have stellar rosters worthy of hoisting the trophy. Only one spot is available in the second round, so which of these two teams will it be?

First, Chicago gets the ’90s Bulls and now, they get this unstoppable hockey team? The Hawks are like the New England Patriots of hockey, minus the hate. They always seem to be one of the top contenders to win the prize year after year after year. Due to back-to-back number one picks in the draft, Chicago was able to hand-pick the best duo in hockey history. The Jonathon Toews and Patrick Kane wombo combo is an unstoppable feat that can’t be beaten. With three wins already in the bag, the Hawks want more, as this team’s thirst for playoff victory cannot be quenched. This Chicago hockey team is still a sore subject for me personally, thanks to them defeating my beloved Bruins in 2013, but even I can’t deny how great this team is. Chicago has the chance to bring home their seventh Cup, which would a feat in and of itself to win four of those Cups in seven years.

The Predators are always that underdog team you hope will win it all. The city of Nashville has fallen in love with this team ever since it has graced their presence by being added to the league in the 1998-1999 season. Each post season is a great learning opportunity for this team, as they seem to get stronger year after year. However, playoff victory is not easy, especially when you have to go against tough teams right off the bat. The Preds always try to fight for a spot in the second round, but just seem to get outplayed every time. Yet, this season might spell a different story, for after acquiring the former Hab’s player, P.K. Subban, the Predators seem to get a new breath of life within the team. This rejuvenated offense has a shot at bringing home the beloved cup to their beloved fans.

This will be the third time these two teams have met in the postseason, with the Hawks winning both times before. Will the Predators have the shot to overcome their tough foe and continue on in the playoffs? Or will the Blackhawks repeat history and stomp over Nashville in pursuit of the Cup? To tune in and see which team will be the victor, check below to see your viewing options for this game.

Dan Rooney Cause Of Death: How Did Pittsburgh Steelers Owner Die?

$

Dan Rooney, who succeeded his father as Steelers team president and rose to become one of the most powerful and beloved owners in sports, died Thursday at the age of 84.

Dan Rooney Cause of Death

The Steelers won four championships in six years — Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV, under Rooney’s direction. He also played an integral role in the 1974 draft class, considered the greatest class in NFL history, in which the Steelers picked four of five future Hall of Famers — Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth and Mike Webster.

The NFL’s Rooney Rule, named after Dan Rooney, was created as a reaction to the firings of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Tony Dungy and Minnesota Viking Coach Dennis Green. The purpose of the Rooney Rule is to sure that minority coaches, specifically African American coaches, would be considered for high-level coaching positions in the NFL.

The Rooney Rule is a NFL policy that requires the league’s teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operation jobs. It is sometimes cited as an example of affirmative action, though there is no quota or preference given to minorities in the hiring of candidates. Established in 2003, variations of the Rooney Rule are now in place in other fields.

Rooney loomed large away from football as well. He was appointed U.S. ambassador to Ireland in 2009 by President Barack Obama and served until his resignation in 2012. In March 2016, the Jackie Robinson Foundation honored Rooney with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

The legendary NFL owner was born July 20, 1932, in Pittsburgh, to Art Rooney Sr., who founded the Steelers the following year. Dan played football for North Catholic High School, and made the 1949 all-Catholic League second team. Who’d he lost the first team spot to? None other than future Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas — whom the Steelers later signed, and cut.

Dan Rooney started working for his father in 1955 after graduating from Duquesne University. He was named president of the Steelers in 1975 and held that position until 2002, when he took on the role of chairman and his son, Art Rooney II, took over the presidency.

One and Not Done will take a look at the life and times of John Calipari. The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball coach is one of the most controversial figures in sports. A lot of people think that he’s one of the best coaches in the game today, while a lot of other’s hate his guts.

I personally think that he’s a cheating slimeball, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t be tuning in tonight. Love him or hate him, Calipari has had a ton of success, and he’s most definitely an interesting cat. I already can’t wait to hear more about the time John Chaney tried to murder Calipari during a postgame press conference.

Now that you know what tonight’s 30 for 30 is all about, let’s breakdown the different ways you can watch One and Not Done.

Flames vs. Ducks Live Steam: How To Watch NHL Playoff Game Online

The Weast Coast is about to heat up (pardon the pun) as the Ducks and the Flames are set to collide in the first round of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the Cup win on the line for both teams, anything can happen in this matchup. Let’s take a look at how both teams have fared in previous playoffs.

The Ducks seem to always be in the top slot going into the playoffs, but seem to fail at pulling the trigger when it comes to winning. Similar to some of the other teams I talked about, this team seems to have all the right stuff to win during the regular season, but fail to use the same offensive and defensive weapons in the playoffs. Yet, the one thing the Ducks have over the other teams that choke in the playoffs is that the Anaheim team has won a cup in the past ten years. It seems like it was a good luck charm for Anaheim to switch to the Ducks from the Mighty Ducks, for they have now found playoff success. Since changing their names, the Ducks have only missed the playoffs twice in ten years. The Ducks came close to returning to the finals in 2015 but got knocked out by the force that is the Blackhawks. It has been ten years since the Ducks have hoisted the Cup, and this team is looking to end their drought.

The Flames really seem to turn on and off over the years. After winning their first and only Stanley Cup back in 1989, the Flames have had a very turbulent time trying to get back into the postseason. This former Atlanta team was able to make it back into the finals in the 2003-2004 season but lost to the Lightning. Since then, the team has been just sulking in limbo, not really going forward but also not really going backward. Yet, with smart trades and acquisitions, this team is back in the mix of things. It is unsure what chances this young team fares in the 2017 postseason, but this first matchup will set a good gauge of how strong they are. By defeating the Ducks in the first round, the Flames will prove they have the caliber of a performance to possibly make and win the finals.

With everything locked and loaded for this matchup, the Flames and the Ducks are ready to play their best of four, with the winner moving to the second round and the loser going home and prepping for next season. Check below to see how you can tune in to watch this thrilling matchup.

With the 2016-2017 NBA Playoffs right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get acquainted with Elisa Johnson. She is the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, and she is an absolute stunner. Magic threw a ton of no-look passes over his legendary career, but trust me when I say that you are going to want to take a long, hard look at Elisa’s hottest photos. Talk about a dime.

Elisa is 22-years-old, making her the youngest of Magic’s three children. He and his wife Earlitha “Cookie” raised two children together, as she gave birth to Earvin III (EJ) in 1992 and they adopted Elisa in 1995. EJ was on all four seasons of the reality television series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, and it seems like Elisa is following in her older brother’s footsteps. Elisa made appearances with EJ on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills and his spin-off show EJNYC.

Enjoy Elisa’s hottest photos in the gallery above, and be sure to give her a follow on Instagram. Roughly 300,000 people can’t be wrong.

Eddie Murphy May Be Returning With A ‘Coming to America’ Sequel

Nothing beats childhood movies and when it comes to childhood movies it’s hard to beat Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America. The 1988 original grossed more than $288 million worldwide and was beloved by fans. Now, a sequel is in the works at Paramount Pictures, according to The Tracking Board.

Original screenwriters Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield are signed on to write the sequel and it being written for Murphy’s Prince Akeem (who is most likely King by now).

The original movie was directed by John Landis and starred Murphy as a wealthy and powerful African prince who sneaks off to Queens, New York to pose as a poor man and search for a wife. Murphy was joined by Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos, Eriq La Salle and Louie Anderson.

Kevin Misher (Mirror MirrorCarrie remake) will produce the sequel. No concrete plot details are known at this time. Previously, Murphy had spent years trying to get a Beverly Hills Cop IV off the ground, but the project died out due to script problems. Murphy has appeared in just one film (Mr. Church) over the last five years, so lets hope the Coming to America sequel gets him back in the spotlight.

Eddie’s brother Charlie tragically passed away this week at age 57.
