Maundy Thursday (also known as [deep breath]: Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday and Thursday of Mysteries) is the Christian holy day that always falls on the Thursday before Easter. The day is meant to celebrate the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. It is also the fifth day of Holy Week, preceded by Holy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday. Maundy Thursday’s mass or service of worship is typically held in the evening.

Jesus washed the disciples’ feet as an act of humility and service, thereby setting an example that we should love and serve one another in humility. Some Christian churches observe a foot-washing ceremony on Maundy Thursday to commemorate Jesus’ washing the feet of the disciples.

The word Maundy comes from the Latin word for “command.” The “Maundy” in “Maundy Thursday” refers to the command Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper, that they should love and serve one another.

Celebrating Maundy Thursday is meant to commemorate Jesus and the Last Supper.

Several countries recognize Maundy Thursday as a public holiday, including: Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Iceland, Mexico, Norway, Paraguay, the Philippines, Spain, Venezuela and in Kerala State of India.

Heather Franklin, 33, and Ernest Franklin II, 35, of Mount Upton, New York, have been charged with murdering their adopted 16-year-old special needs child. Details have now emerged that they murdered the boy after watching Manchester By The Sea just hours before.

Reportedly inspired by Casey Affleck’s character, who accidentally killed his child in a house fire, the Franklins have been charged with second-degree murder, arson, and tampering with physical evidence after they murdered their son Jeffrey ‘JR’ Franklin out of frustration with the boy’s bowel and bladder control issues.

Responders arrived at the scene of the fire around 1:15 A.M. on March 1 at the family’s home near the town of Mount Upton, which is about 5o miles southeast of Syracuse. Investigators concluded the fire was caused by a wood stove.

“Judge, this is a very interesting case,” McBride said, according to the transcript. “We have two parents who adopted a special needs foster child in approximately 2012. The evidence before The Court and the evidence in this matter shows that Jeffrey was a handful, that he had bowel issues and he had urine control issues, and I believe in our attachments to my response to the Defendant’s Order to Show Cause, we’ve set out that there was a very big strain in the family relationship because of Jeffrey’s special needs and that this defendant was complaining on Facebook about the strain that that was putting on her.”

McBride continued, stating, “Judge, in this particular case, the defendant and her husband, co-defendant, were at home with Jeffrey on the night of February 28th. That night, according to this defendant, she watched a movie called Manchester by the Sea. And in that movie, Judge, the main character in that movie kills his children by an accidental fire and is told in the movie that you can’t be prosecuted for accidentally killing your children, and within two hours of that movie playing to this defendant and her husband, Jeffrey’s deceased. She inexplicably left the house, driving around Chenango County and Delaware County, and doesn’t return until the fire totally engulfs the house.”

McBride said that had Jeffery died as a result of a fire, either smoke or soot would be present in his mouth, trachea, or bronchi. None of those were present.

Ernest is being held on $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond, and Heather is being held on $125,000 or $250,000 bond. If convicted, both face 25 years to life in prison. Ernest Franklin was still being held at the Chenango County Jail as of Monday, April 10.

Lil Dicky dropped the wonderfully bizarre music video for his latest single “Pillow Talking,” which is an 11-minute track of Dicky just rambling through literal pillow talk. It’s something very few rappers today could get away with and Dicky absolutely crushes it. According to her IMDB page, Taylor is a Los Angeles-based actor with a BFA in Acting from Ithaca College. Originally from San Jose, California, Taylor discovered her passion for acting at a young age at the CMT San Jose. Taylor is known for her co-star roles on About A Boy (2015) and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2016).

But I will forever know her as the “Pillow Talking” girl who doesn’t know shit about Pangea.

Tomi Lahren, the notoriously loud-mouthed, shock jock, conservative smokeshow, was famously fired from The Blaze after revealing that she was pro-choice on ABC’s The View. It was clearly a forward thinking move by Lahren, who at only 24-years-old has to be eyeing a more mainstream career somewhere down the line.

While Lahren probably wanted to leave The Blaze eventually, she certainly didn’t want to get fired, so as a result, she’s decided to sue Glenn Beck and The Blaze.

Appearing on Nightline for the first time since being fired, Lahren discussed a multitude of topics, including why she’s suing Beck, how she’s supposed to be perceived as tough, and finally, her pro-choice opinions.

Overall, this is another move by Lahren to the middle of the aisle, as she hops to get scooped up by one of the big three networks, presumably Fox News. If Lahren wins her lawsuit against The Blaze while simultaneously inking a deal with a Fox News or CNN, Lahren may become the world’s premiere bachelorette: super rich, wildly hot, and also, a little crazy.

The Canadian brewery announced the launch of their new ‘Fake News Ale,’ a beer inspired by none other than Donnie Freedom. And surprisingly enough, it’s more than just a cheap marketing trick: the company promises to donate 5% of sales to “help reverse a questionable policy” enacted by Donald Trump’s administration.

Gustavo Falcon, the last original “Cocaine Cowboy” drug dealer, was arrested in Kissimmee, Florida, after 26 years on the run. Falcon is said to have smuggled roughly $2 billion worth of cocaine in his drug trafficking days.

What Happened?

Falcon was once one of the richest drug dealers in American history. He was arrested by US Marshals in Kissimmee, Florida,  while riding bikes with his wife. Over the years, rumors suggested that he had feld to Cuba.

Gustavo, along with his brother Augusto “Willy” Falcon and accomplice Salvador “Sal” Malgluta, comprised the original Cocaine Cowboys in the 1980s. The trio were infamous playboy drug deals who were known for racing speedboats, purchasing mansions and traveling in private jets.

After dropping out of high school to move drugs, the group smuggled at least $2 billion worth of cocaine into the United States and became one of the five largest drug dealing networks in U.S. history.

Magluta and Willy would end up behind bars in federal prison, but Gustavo managed to evade capture for decades.

NBC Miami reported that Gustavo was apprehended by a team of U.S. Marshals from Miami. The 55-year-old was booked at the Orange County Jail at 6:24 P.M. ET on Wednesday.

“He is the last of the ‘Cocaine Cowboys,’ Barry Golden, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Office in Miami, told the Miami Herald.

Federal officials said that Gustavo had been using a fake driver’s licenses since 1997. He also had fake licenses for his wife, Amelia, and children, who are all now in their 30s, according to authorities. Golden said the couple were known as Luis Reiss and Maria Reiss.

Police caught a break in the case when Gustavo was involved in a car accident and used his fake ID with the false Miami address.

Who Is Gustavo Falcon?

Gustavo Falcon, 55, is the last of the three original Cocaine Cowboys, who smuggled more than 75 tons, or $2 billion worth of cocaine into the country.

Since 1999, Gustavo and his family had been living in the Orlando area, despite rumors that he fled the country to Cuba, Mexico or Colombia.

“We figured this all out a month ago,” Golden said. “We pulled their drivers’ licenses and saw it was the same Gustavo Falcon.”

Gustavo did not resist at all during his arrest and even confessed to his real identity, authorities said.

In the 1980s, the two brothers and Magluta were well-known figures in the local speedboat racing circles and could often be seen racing their powerful boats in South Florida.

Malachi Hemphill, a 13-year-old boy, accidentally shot and killed himself on Instagram Live after the gun he was playing with went off.

Hemphill,13, of Forest Park, Georgia, had just finished taking out the trash on Monday, April 10, when his mother heard a loud ‘boom’ come from his room.
When Hemphill’s mother, Shaniqua Stephens kicked in the Hemphill’s door, they found him dead, lying in a pool of blood. Hemphill then was rushed to Grady Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to Stephens, about 40 to 50 kids who lived nearby came to Malachi’s house after watching the incident unfold on social media.

Stephens said it was an accident and not an intentional suicide. Several of his friends were watching when the shooting happened. Stephens said they rushed to her house afterwards.

“There was about 40 to 50 kids outside,” she said. “I guess these were the kids that were watching on live that live in the area. I guess when it happened they just ran over here.” She has been told that someone asked why he didn’t have a clip in the gun and told him to put a clip in the gun. “As he put the clip in the gun, that is when the gun went off,” she said.

Stephens isn’t completely sure how Malachi got the gun. She was told he got the gun from a friend who got it from someone else. Detectives told her they are working to find out who originally had the gun and passed it to the friend.

Stephens said it was hard to keep track of Hemphill’s activities because we would ‘make up so many different pages.’ Malachi’s stepfather, Ernest Stephens, said: “It can happen to the best parents, it can happen to the best people. The best ones that loved their kids, you know?”

Forest Park police are currently investigating how Malachi got his hands on the gun. This is just the latest incident in a long line of both gun-related accidents, as well as shootings occurring live on social media.

Sheila Abdus-Salaam, the United States’ first-ever Muslim woman to serve on the bench, has been found dead in the Hudson River. Abdus-Salaam, 65, was identified by her husband after being found fully clothed in the river, according to the New York Daily News. She had been appointed to the New York Court of Appeals in May 2013 by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

What Happened?

The New York Post reports that there are no “obvious signs of trauma or injuries indicating criminality or foul play.” As of now, the cause of death is still unknown.

Jonathan Lippman, who served as the Chief Judge of the Court Appeals from 2009 to 2015, told The Post, “I’m deeply saddened at having lost a dear friend and colleague, and the court has suffered a terrible blow. She was a superb jurist and an even more superb human being. I knew her for many, many years. To some degree, we grew up together in the court. I’ve known her in all her different roles in the court. It’s just so shocking. She was a very gentile, lovely lady and judge. If you ask anyone about her, people would say only the most wonderful things. That’s why it makes it even more difficult to understand.”

A friend revealed to the Daily News that Abdus-Salaam had previously gone through a divorce but was now happily remarried.

Who Is Sheila Abdus-Salaam?

Abdus-Salaam was the first Muslin to serve on the bunch and the first black female to be on the NY Court of Appeals. Before that, she served as a judge in the New York Civil Court in 1992. In 1993, she became a New York Supreme Court judge until 2009, according to her profile at NYCourts.Gov.

She was appointed to the Court of Appeals in May 2013 without any opposition. At the time, Gov. Cuomo said of her appointment (via the New York Times): “Rising from working-class roots to serve for decades on the bench of the New York State Supreme Court, Justice Abdus-Salaam has a deep understanding of the everyday issues facing New Yorkers, as well as the complex legal issues that come before the state’s highest court.”

She was inspired to enter law as a child after meeting civil rights leader Frankie Muse Freeman.

Charlie Murphy passed away on Wednesday, April 12 after a battle with leukemia. But on Tuesday night, before he passed, he sent his final message to the world.

Probably knowing he was about to lose a hard-fought battle with leukemia, Murphy wanted to make sure he spread one last inspiring message.

Murphy famously appeared on Chappelle’s Show, serving as the source material for the show’s most memorable sketches: Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories.

Aside from Chappelle’s Show, Charlie also co-wrote several of his brother Eddie’s movies, such as Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn. He had notable roles in Are We There Yet, The Boondocks and Black Jesus. Recently, Charlie toured with comedians Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on “The Comedy Get Down.” His stand-up special, Charlie Murphy: I Will Not Apologize, premiered on Comedy Central in late February 2010.

Oh my, wow. Usually, trailers show the flashiest scenes and give away half of the plot, but the trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard is a little different.

And by different, I mean it’s two minutes of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson screaming some variation of ‘motherf*cker!’ at each other. Needless to say, I’m already SOLD. The jokes don’t even need to be funny, Reynolds and Samuel L. have two of the best delivery games in the… uh… game. Before he was a leading man, Reynolds was pretty strictly a comedy guy, people forget that. As for Samuel L., I’m starting to wonder whether he’s the greatest actor of all time. The guy literally plays himself in almost every movie, yet it’s always fantastic.

As for the actual movie, and this is HIGH praise based on such a relatively short trailer, I’m getting a very The Other Guys meets Kingsman vibe. And if you’ve seen either of those movies, you know how big of a compliment that is. We’ll see if it’s actually any good (your guess is as good as mine) but based on the first look, I have high hopes for this one.

Is this some sort of guerilla marketing campaign for Better Call Saul? This entire thing looks/feels/plays like a scene out of the Breaking Bad universe.

Let’s start with what’s happening: a little girl, adorably dressed in all pink, is prancing around a tattoo parlor lobby in Chandler, Arizona, while one of her parents presumably either gets or gives a tattoo. As a child does, the girl just seems to be bopping along in her own world, when suddenly, a hail of bullets whiz past her head.

Miraculously, she was not hit. I don’t know about you, but this seems like an early Heisenberg scheme gone wrong to me.

And if that isn’t Breaking Bad enough for you, just check out the mugshots of the arrested suspects. They just look like they’d be boys with Jesse Pinkman. Hell, the dude with the tattoos looks like the heroin-version of Skinny Pete.

On Monday morning, April 10, 2017, 23-year-old Michael David Hart arrived at the Damaged Ink Tattoo located at 590 N. Alma School Rd. with 21-year-old Rafael Santos and a third unidentified Hispanic male, for a tattoo.  Around 11:00 A.M., a verbal dispute broke out between Hart, Santos, the unidentified male, and the tattoo artist.  Hart was asked to leave the parlor and return at a later time.

After leaving the tattoo parlor, Hart, Santos, and the unidentified male entered a vehicle.  As this vehicle began to drive away, Hart allegedly fired at least three rounds from a firearm, in the direction of Damaged Ink Tattoo.  Instead of striking the tattoo parlor, the rounds struck the Paisanos Barber Shop located next door.  Two of the rounds struck the front window of the barber shop, narrowly missing a four-year-old girl who was watching television

On Tuesday, April 11, 2017 Hart was taken into custody at a residence in Mesa.  Santos was arrested a short time later at a different location.

Both Hart and Santos were booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and endangerment.

Two Middle Tennessee State University football players are being investigated by the Murfreesboro Police Department for animal cruelty after shocking video shows one of the players hitting a defenseless puppy.

Snapchat video recorded by a citizen from her iPad shows MTSU linebacker Shalom Alvarez hitting a dog. Police say Alvarez grabbed the dog from under the bed and forcefully hit it at least five times. The video was uploaded to defensive lineman Justin Akins’ Snapchat.

Akins, a redshirt senior, posted the video with the caption a redshirt senior football player, posted the video with the comment “***** said you don’t pay rent.”

Middle Tennessee State head coach Rick Stockstill released a statement about the video:

“I am aware of the situation and have talked to the players involved. The players explained to me that the puppy urinated inside and they were simply spanking it as a form of discipline. They told me there was never any intent to harm the dog. This was an important teaching moment. I talked to them about other approaches that should have been considered in this situation. And I pointed out how disciplining a pet in such a manner could be misconstrued, especially with the impact of social media.”

Both Akins and Alvarez have been suspended from the team. As for Akins, this isn’t the first time he’s been in trouble, as he was arrested back in January for resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

An MTA bus burst into flames on Thursday morning on the corner of 45th Street and Lexington Avenue. Photos from the scene show an M101 bus with multiple windows blown out in the rear and flames on either side of the bus. The fire occurred close to Grand Central.

What Happened?

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the fire, according to the MTA. The driver was not injured.

The fire department was on scene at 45th Street and Lexington Avenue early Thursday morning, according to tan FDNY spokesperson who said the fire was under control within an hour.

Other midtown buses were rerouted as a result. However, regular service has since resumed.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Temple University has sent out a warning to the university after three students were robbed at gunpoint in an off-campus home.

The robbery happened around 2:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 12, on the 1800 block of North Bouvier Street, just a few blocks from the Temple University campus. Philadelphia police say the three suspects, who were armed with a knife and a gun and wearing masks and black clothing, walked into the building through the unlocked front door.

The students, who had just returned from the bar 30 minutes prior, thought the door was locked.

Via ABC:

“They had us on the ground, and the one dude had a knife to my back,” said the senior. “And at one point they even stood me up, took me to my knees and said, ‘Where is the stuff? We know there’s stuff in your room!’ And I’m like, ‘I’m serious, guys, if you want to do something, do it to me. I have nothing in this room to give you. You took what I have.'”

The suspects flipped the room, taking cell phones, electronics, wallets, keys, debit cards, and $880 in cash. Then they fled.

An alert was sent out to university students after the incident. Police are checking area surveillance video as they work to track down the suspects, although they have not identified any suspects yet.

Police have released descriptions of the three suspects they are looking for:

Offender #1: B/M, white mask, 5’10 -6’0, late teens, early 20s, medium build, black hoodie, dark pants; armed with a black handgun
Offender #2: B/M, 5’10, medium build, late teens to early 20s, wearing a black mask or he had his hoodie pulled over his face, black hoodie with white paint splashed on the front

Today is Thursday, April 13, 2017, which means one glorious thing: it’s Wawa Day. You can stroll on over to your local Wawa at anytime and pick yourself up a coffee of any size and any flavor for absolutely free. Hell, you can even fill your cup up with 90% creamer if that’s what your heart desires. The world is your oyster.

Wawa Day is held every year to celebrate the convenience store’s anniversary. 2017 marks their 53rd anniversary, and it’s pretty hard to believe that East Coasters like myself have made it this far without it. Wawa expects to give away an astounding two million cups of free coffee at their 750 stores across six states today. And if you’re not sure where your closest Wawa is located, you can head on over to their store locator and plug in your zip code. Hopefully for everyone reading this post, hot, tasty, and totally free coffee is right around the corner.

Another day, another fraternity suspended.

The Sigma Chi chapter at Radford University has been suspended for what school administrators call “possible misconduct.” As a result of the suspension, members of the school’s Sigma Chi chapter will not be able to participate in group activities as a chapter.

According to Joe Carpenter, a spokesman for the university, the allegations are of a “serious nature,” however, he declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations. He also declined to acknowledge whether hazing was involved or not.

Furthermore, Jenni Wilder, a spokesperson for the city of Radford, Virginia, said the city police department is assisting university police with an investigation.

This is not the first time that the Sigma Chi at Radford has been in hot water.

A decade ago, in 2007, they were suspended due to hazing allegations. Then two years later, the chapter was placed on probation for two years after serving alcohol to minors.

A Lake Norman High School student apparently attempted to hang himself Thursday morning at the school, Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a statement.

What Happened?

Another student found the victim unresponsive around 10:10 A.M. Campbell said that student notified school officials.

School Administrators worked to remove the noose from the student’s neck and staff, including the school’s nurse, performed CPR and first aid.

The student has been transferred to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for additional treatment. Sheriff’s Office officials did not provide an update on the student’s condition. the Mooresville Tribune reports that he was in critical condition and that the injuries appeared to be “self inflicted.”

Officials said that no other students were injured in the incident and that additional Sheriff’s office personnel will remain on the scene at the school. Lake Norman will be operating on a normal schedule for the remainder of the day.

The Mooresville Tribune reported the student was a male and that he was found with a “makeshift noose” around his neck in the auditorium area of the school.

In an email alert, Lake Norman High officials told parents that an incident was being investigated but that there was no threat on campus.
