We began our journey to find Miss COED 2017 back in April, and now we’re finally just a few weeks away from meeting our top 14 finalists – but we need your help. It feels good to be needed, doesn’t it?

Voting for the semifinals is officially underway, and it’s pretty safe to say that we’ve got the dopest college girls in the game. I mean hey, I might be a bit biased, but they have a TON of school pride and could most definitely beat me in a game of Jeopardy. Why? The Poinsettia Bowl is officially a goner, as the San Diego Bowl Game Association board of directors voted to have just one college football bowl game in 2017. They want to place all of their resources behind the Holiday Bowl, putting an end to the Poinsettia Bowl after 12 years.

Via San Diego Bowl Games, here’s more on the news.

“College football and the bowl game structure has gone through major changes through the years and our board feels the time is right to focus our efforts on one post-season game,” said Mark Neville, executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association. “The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl staged exciting match-ups for more than a decade and we were one of the few cities to host two bowl games.”

Discussions are also underway with the San Diego Padres about playing the Holiday Bowl at Petco Park in the event Qualcomm Stadium closes after 2018.

I’d typically be happy to see a virtually meaningless bowl game bite the dust, as we’ve got way too damn many of these things on our hands. But thanks to that scumbag Dean Spanos moving the Chargers, San Diego needs all of the football they can get right now. I’d much rather see some dipshit bowl like the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl get the ax instead.

Oh well, at least a football game at the gorgeous Petco Park would be cool. R.I.P. to the Poinsettia Bowl.

If you’re a college basketball loving night owl, you are in for a treat tonight. The #8 ranked UCLA Bruins will travel to the Galen Center to take on the USC Trojans in a Pac-12 showdown. If the Trojans are going to have any shot at upsetting the Bruins, they will need to find a way to slow down UCLA’s high-powered attack. The Bruins average an absurd 93.0 points per game, which makes them the 2nd best offense in the country.

UCLA (19-2, 6-2 Pac-12) was rolling until they ran into #14 Arizona this past Saturday. The Bruins had won six straight games before the Wildcats came into Pauley Pavilion and pulled off a 96-85 victory. It will be interesting to see how the Bruins respond after a tough loss to a bitter conference foe.

USC (17-4, 4-4 Pac-12) got off to a fantastic start this season, winning each of their first 14 games. But they’ve cooled off big time over the last few weeks, going 3-4 in their last seven contests. They did win their most recent game, though, prevailing over Arizona State in an 82-79 nail-biter.

EA has just announced They Shall Not Pass, the first Battlefield 1 DLC that will land in March. There looks to be a ton of new content, including four new maps, two new vehicles, a new game mode, and the addition of the French Army. The DLC will also include a new Elite Class and a new stationary weapon, as well.

The new game mode, Frontlines, is a “mix of Conquest and Rush.” The official Battlefield 1 site explains that players will “fight for chained control points in a tug-of-war frontline.” Each side will fight for one flag at a time and when one of the control points is captured, the fighting will move on to the next flag. Teams will attempt to push further and further into the enemy territory, eventually trying to capture the enemy’s HQ control point. When that happens, the game shifts and presents the teams with a Rush-style finale where telegraphs must be either destroyed or defended. This seems like a great way to create some longer, more linear battles while maintaining variety throughout and having a more intense and exciting finale to an otherwise basic game-mode.

The new Elite Class is an intriguing addition in the new DLC, as well. The Trench Raider will be outfitted with a “brutal Raider Club and impressive grenade arsenal.” At this point, it is unclear whether the Trench Raider will have some class-specific grenade options or if it will simply have a larger grenade inventory, but it will be exciting to see what that means exactly. It is also unclear what the Raider Club will entail. If the Trench Raider does not have a firearm in its arsenal, I am skeptical about the appeal of the new class. Though, if he is heavily armored and can toss grenade after grenade, the Trench Raider could become a new favorite.

The French army finally makes an appearance in this DLC and they will be joined by two new French vehicles. The new assault tank is the St. Chamond which was “the most heavily armed allied tank of the war.” Joining the Chamond will be a new behemoth. The Char 2C tank is a huge double-barrelled French mobile-armor that, according to the BF1 site ” may turn the tide of the entire battle.”

There are four new maps that will be playable when the They Shall Not Pass DLC drops in March. Below are descriptions for each of the new areas as well as a screenshot for each.

Verdun Heights

“The opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun created massive forest fires in which players will fight for domination. This is an uphill battle towards the massive fortresses of Verdun. A constant grinding struggle where the artillery never stops. Where the forge and “the Devil’s Anvil” continues to consume even the bravest combatants.”

Fort de Vaux

“The first big engagement inside a fort during World War 1 takes place in the dark underworld of Fort de Vaux. Down in the maze of dark galleries and wet stone corridors, French and Germans fight ferociously with grenades, guns, bayonets, and flamethrowers. Watch your corners!”

Soissons

“Take part in one of the biggest tank assaults of World War 1. The French 10th Army moves to take back Soissons using their powerful Saint Chamond tanks. Planes, tanks, and infantry clash in the beautiful French countryside in the early hours of a hot summer day. Only the thunderstorm is louder than the war.”

Rapture

“In dire need to capture key bridges across the Aisne river, the French find themselves back into battlefields where poppies grow over a rusty wreck from previous tank battles. It might seem calm but this maze of steel beasts provides an excellent place for those who plan an ambush. As the sun sets over Fontenoy, the battle wakes up.”

There is still no precise date for when the They Shall Not Pass DLC will release, but EA has assured that it will be within the “March 2017,” window. As always, owners of the Premium Pass with receive two weeks of early access to this and all of the DLC’s. Pricing has not been discussed at this point, but based on previous DLC costs for Battlefield games, expect a $15 price tag.

President Donald Trump will answer questions for the first time since becoming commander in chief. ABC’s David Muir, an anchor of the network’s World News Tonight, is the first to interview Trump in an hour-long segment called President Trump: The First Interview. The interview will take place inside the White House. According to ABC, Muir will ask a “wide range of questions” and would leave nothing embargoed. President Trump: The First Interview airs onight at 10:00 P.M. EST,

A lot has happened in the fives days since Trump was inaugurated. The following day of the inauguration was the Women’s March, which took place in over 50 cities and garnered the enthusiasm of over 2 million people worldwide. However, Trump has yet to acknowledge any of these events and instead has been targeting the media for “lying” about the number of attendees at his inauguration. His latest attack has been on voter fraud, an issue that seems to be very important to him and only him. Hopefully, Muir will hold Trump accountable and ask him about the different policies that he has already put into effect, including the Global Gag Rule, which bans medical officials from suggesting abortion, as well as the silencing of the National Parks social media in discussing climate change.

President Trump: The First Interview Preview

Over the last twenty years in Iceland, an average of about two people have been murdered per year in the nation of a mere 336,000 people. In the years 2003, 2006 and 2008, not a single person was murdered. For perspective, there were 762 homicides in Chicago during 2016. However, not even a month into 2017, the murder of a young woman has enthralled the entire nation of Iceland.

Birna Brjansdottir, a 20-year-old sales assistant who worked at a department store in a shopping mall,  disappeared more than a week ago, after last being seen staggering down a street in downtown Reykjavik. Brjansdottir’s disappearance prompted the largest search-and-rescue operation in decades.

Icelandic police found Brjansdottir’s body on a beach approximately 20 miles southeast of Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland. Furthermore, police said they were treating the case as a murder. Two sailors from Greenland, ages 25 and 30, have been arrested, but have not yet been charged with a crime.

As the disappearance dominated news bulletins across the country, about 775 rescue workers volunteered to search for the missing woman, who had distinctive red hair.

A few days later, after frantically scouring the Icelandic capital and its surrounding areas for clues, the police found her Doc Martens on a dock at Hafnarfjordur, a sleepy town on the outskirts of Reykjavik

After the reviewing video from the scene further, police noticed a fishing trawler from Greenland called the Polar Nanoqat docked nearby. Next to the dock where the Polar Nanoq was stationed, the police spotted a small red car, which was parked there at 6:30 AM. The surveillance video showed, it was the same model as the vehicle seen next to Brjansdottir before she vanished. Tracing the license plate, the police learned that the car had been rented by two men from the Polar Nanoqat.

The men who were now the prime suspects in Ms. Brjansdottir’s death could be on the ship, but the Polar Nanoq had set off for Greenland days earlier. Fearful that the suspects would get beyond their reach, the Icelandic Coast Guard sent a helicopter with a squad of six special forces officers, known as the Viking Swat Team, to intercept the vessel, a spokesman for the Icelandic Coast Guard, Sveinn Gudmarsson, said.

About 90 minutes later, Mr. Gudmarsson said, the squad — part of the only armed police force in Iceland — rappelled onto the trawler and arrested the two fishermen, who did not resist. He said that the ship was aware “the Vikings” were pursuing them and had already altered course to return to Reykjavik. “The weather was bad and there were eight-meter-high waves,” he said. “The crew cooperated.”

The two suspects, who have been arrested, are Thomas Møller Olsen and Nikolaj Olsen. Both men are Greenlandic and members of the crew of the Greenlandic trawler Polar Nanoq. Møller has a criminal record after being arrested for selling drugs in Greenland.

Iceland had the third-lowest murder rate in 2012, behind just Liechtenstein and Singapore. but because the suspects were foreigners and the case had seemed such a mystery at first. Helgi Gunnlaugsson, a sociology professor at the University of Iceland, says that the reason this case has received so much attention in Iceland is not necessarily due to their low murder rates, but because the suspects were foreigners and the case had seemed such a mystery at first:

“Most murder cases in Iceland are not mysteries — the victims and their killers usually know each other, the murderer rarely seeks to cover up the crime, and cases are usually solved quickly,” Mr. Gunnlaugsson said. He added: “Foreign involvement is almost unheard-of. The reaction would be different if the suspects would’ve been two Icelandic boys.”

Not only has the case received widespread coverage in Iceland, but in Greenland, which has a population of 58,000 people. Approximately 400 of the 58,000 Greenlanders attended a memorial outside the Icelandic consulate in Nuuk, the country’s capital.

The Times spoke to Sigrun Skaftadottir, a 28-year-old D.J. in Reykjavik, to further elaborate on how the murder is impacting the Icelandic community, Skaftadottir said Brjansdottir’s murder was already changing people’s behavior, including prompting renewed interest in self-defense classes:

“Girls in my circle are either walking home with someone or taking a taxi, even if they are just traveling a few blocks,” she said. “I can’t stop thinking of all the times I walked home alone in Reykjavik, sometimes drunk, sometimes with music in my ears, engaging with strangers, even inviting random people at the bar to an after-party. Now I won’t do that again.

Sports science students Alex Rossetta and Luke Parkin were each given the equivalent of 300 cups of coffee and were admitted to intensive care for dialysis after the calculation error led to violent side-effects. The calculation had been done on a mobile phone, with the decimal point in the wrong place, and there was no risk assessment.

The students had volunteered to take part in a test in March 2015 aimed at measuring the effect of caffeine on exercise. They were given 30g of caffeine instead of 0.3g, Mr Farrer said.

Prosecutor Adam Farrer told the court the overdose “could easily have been fatal”, as death had previously been reported after consumption of just 18g.

The staff were not experienced or competent enough and they had never done it on their own before.”The university took no steps to make sure the staff knew how to do it.”” Farrer said.

Peter Smith, defending, said the university wished to “emphasise that they take the welfare of their students and staff seriously”.

Northumbria University told Newcastle Crown Court it was “deeply, genuinely sorry” as it was fined £400,000.

Bad look for the Northumbria University. If you’re gonna let some first time scientists try and experiment for the first time, have it be on plants or something. At the very least, don’t use one of the most addictive/potentially lethal drugs in the world.

Here’s my plan: I’m going to buy these chips for my Super Bowl party, unload all the chips into a communal bowl, and keep the packages for myself. Hoboken’s a small city, and every uber I take is around $6.50, so with like, I don’t know, 10 bags of Tostitos, I’d have enough money for 3, maybe 4 months of Uber rides.

Stephen York, a 64-year-old who escaped prison and lived under the identity of a deceased infant for more than 40 years, was arrested on Wednesday in Clay County, Florida.

York, who escaped from a North Carolina prison, had been living as Joel Dean Hanes since around 1975.  York registered his driver’s license, got married, filed insurance claims, and had numerous brushes with the law over the course of more than four decades, however, according to the Florida Times-Union, it wasn’t until a car crash in August that an investigation into his identity was launched.

His record under Hanes’ name, which stretches back as far as 1986, shows he was cited nearly 50 times just in Clay and Duval counties. It indicates his then-wife took him to court over domestic violence in 1989, the same year she divorced him. Three years later, a second woman sought child support from him.

His second life unraveled following a two-vehicle crash along County Road 218 on Aug. 22, 2016. According to court documents, York handed a deputy a photo ID with Hanes’ name on it. But when that name was flagged, York provided a second ID — this one with his actual name and the same photograph.

That incident prompted a Florida Highway Patrol investigation, including at least one interview Nov. 30. Troopers secured a warrant for York’s arrest Jan. 10. He turned himself in at the Clay County jail without incident Wednesday.

He turned himself in on Friday, and faces charges including the fraudulent use of the identity of a deceased person, insurance fraud, and possession of an illegal driver’s license.

He is being held at Clay County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Give it to this guy for making it almost half of a century on the run. I can’t keep a secret for 15 minutes, let alone forty years. As long as this guy isn’t a violent criminal, he should be allowed to live out the rest of his days as a free man, as a reward for absolutely clowning on the American justice system.

University of Kanas campus police are investigating the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl at a dorm that houses the men’s basketball team.

While no charges have been filed yet, and police have not publicly identified any suspects, five members of the nation’s #2-ranked men’s basketball team are listed as witnesses on the police report.

According to the Kansas City Star, the 5 Jayhawks’ basketball players are: Frank Mason III, Mitch Lightfoot, Lagerald Vick, Tucker Vang and Josh Jackson.

The alleged rape and three other crimes occurred between 10 p.m. Dec. 17 and 5 a.m. Dec. 18, according to a police report obtained by The Star on Wednesday.

According to the report, those alleged crimes are contributing to a child’s misconduct, furnishing alcohol to a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. An investigation remains open.

 No description of a suspect was released by KU police, including whether the suspect is a student or lives at McCarthy Hall. The alleged offender was suspected of using drugs and alcohol, according to the police report, and officers confiscated two glass smoking devices, one with residue.

Sandy Doan, a Texas teacher, is facing sexual assault charges after evidence of a sexual relationship with a student has surfaced.

According to ABC, the 14-year-old boy at the center of the controversy, which took place at Quintanilla Middle School in Dallas, is suspected of extorting thousands of dollars from 30-year-old Doan. Doan, according to the school’s website, worked as a coach for the cross-country and soccer teams

The affidavit states that the teen, who has yet to be identified, sent Doan a text message in January 2016 demanding money: “Aint b’sing watch ima start getting the pics and everything ready to show the cops. Right i aint playing.”

Court documents show that Doan talked to police, confirming that she sent an image of her exposed breasts and that they had engaged in explicit text messages. But police say it went further, and the two of them had sex at least three times since July of 2015. The boy’s mother found the messages.

“She requested that the school tell the teacher to stop providing money to her child, as he was using it for illegal purposes and causing issues at home,” court documents said.

“At times, he started getting into drugs, drinking, leaving the house. And he would probably get money and just leave the whole weekend,” the boy’s mother said. “I wouldn’t hear from him. I’d be out looking for him.”

Doan was arrested Friday and charged with sexual assault and is on administrative leave. As for the boy, he most likely won’t be charged with a crime for taking the money.

So, to recap, this kid got to have sex with his teacher, got paid a small salary, and is going to get away with all of it scot-free? This kid’s going places for sure. Gotta respect the hustle. Capitalism never sleeps, ya know?

I’ve never watched Mad Men, but I really hope it’s an origin story about whichever advertisement executives figured out that sex sells, because honestly, it’s one of the greatest contributions to mankind. I bring you to the University of Washington, where there are currently about 20 anti-Trump protestors laying in metaphorical body bags after one heroic student verbally spartan kicked them straight to hell.

About two dozen social justice warriors gathered in the library, the hallowed, sacred ground of higher learning to voice their displeasure about Donald Trump’s election. A couple megaphone-wielding students began to chant ‘Who’s got the power?’ ‘We’ve got the power!’ ‘What kind of power?’ ‘Equal power!’

And then, the unthinkable happened: a phoenix arose from the ashes.

Being the owner of a professional franchise has got to be the coolest job out there. It’s every guy’s fantasy. First off, to have the money to be able to buy a team is the ultimate sign that you’ve made it in life because those things do not come cheap. What has to be even better than just owning a professional sports team is having a team that’s successful, which is exactly what is going on with Arthur Blank and his Atlanta Falcons. After whooping on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, Blank’s Falcons are headed to the franchise’s second Super Bowl and are looking to take home football’s top prize. It’s good to be Arthur Blank right now, essentially sitting on top of the world with more money than he could ever dream of having. That brings up this question: How much is NFL owner Arthur Blank really worth?

Both Blank and Marcus were fired from the company in 1978, but that turned out to be probably the best thing to happen to both men.

Blank would go on to work for Home Depot until 2001 and served as the company’s president and CEO, where he accumulated 95% of his wealth. He decided to retire from the company in 2001 and probably could have been set for life at that point, but the following year he decided to dive into another huge business investment.

With the fortune he made from Home Depot, Blank was able to purchase the Atlanta Falcons in February of 2002, where he is still the owner of the franchise today. In 2006, Blank strongly considered purchasing Atlanta’s MLB team, the Braves, but ended up withdrawing his name from consideration. If he would have ended up purchasing the Braves, Atlanta should have just named him mayor of the entire city shortly thereafter considering the amount of power he would have acquired.

As Blank gets ready to take his Falcons to the Super Bowl, it was reported that he is taking every employee of the Falcons to Houston for the big game, which is well over 100 people. I’m sure that there are people out there that think that is a huge waste of money, but personally, I think it is an incredibly nice gesture and who knows, it could be good karma for the Falcons on Super Sunday. Hey, when you’re worth over $3 billion and the owner of a successful sports franchise, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt your bank too bad for a spending spree of that magnitude.

What’s even less surprising is that the person arrested was none other than Shia LaBeouf himself. Our boy Shia has accumulated quite the rap sheet over the last couple of years but according to witnesses, this one may be the biggest bullshit arrest yet.
