For the past several years, the Resident Evil franchise has been running away from its survival horror roots like a scream queen in a slasher flick. The games became increasingly action-obsessed to the point of absurdity. That changes with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, a razor-sharp shift in direction that does away with Call of Duty-style set pieces, shrinks down the setting and takes things back to the old feel of the series. Part Silent Hill, part walking sim and all OG Resident Evil, this is the game fans have been clamoring for.

Capcom has been angling toward this game since releasing well-received remakes of the original title — set entirely in a haunted mansion — as well as the old-school entries Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4. Once again, you find yourself in a creaky, run-down home, desperately looking for your lost wife. Resources are limited, and you’ll only survive if you manage to learn to avoid and evade your enemies. Much of the game is a battle with yourself, working under pressure to solve environmental puzzles while piecing together clues to advance to the next room. Gone are the notorious failures of the original games, such as tank-like controls or laborious backtracking.

Even though so much of what makes the sequel appealing is old in nature, it’s the new-for-the-series shift to first-person perspective that makes it feel fresh and new. The tendency of developers to mess with your mind by planting creepy visuals at the edge of your peripheral vision throws you into a state of constant paranoia, always worried about what’s lurking in the hidden recesses of whatever room you’re in. Lose your composure and it’s easy to fall into a spiral of panic that finds you making increasingly hapless efforts to save yourself. This is the sort of game that has you shaking one minute and laughing at yourself the next.

Both Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game pack stunningly sharp visuals. The liberal use of shadows and lighting — along with the ever-cramped quarters — allow developers to cheat a little, cramming an incredible amount of lifelike detail into the backgrounds, objects and creatures. The internet has done it again and invented a borderline baseless, absolutely bonkers theory and this time, the subject involves the legitimacy of a Secret Service agent’s hands.

Whether it be on Twitter, YouTube, or any of the other hundreds of social media websites, eagle-eyed (or crackhead) viewers noted this Secret Service agent’s arms did not move at all during the 2.5-mile walk.

One YouTube user said, “That is a prosthetic arm, tucked in his coat, that agent is carrying a long gun under his coat, and he is right handed. He is holding his long gun, up close and under his right armpit, prob a rifle SBR or sub-machine gun.”

The theory comes from the analysis of video footage as President Trump, his wife Melania, and son Barron went on the traditional walkabout down Pennsylvania Avenue after Friday’s inauguration surrounded by a team of bodyguards, one of whom was oddly still.

The logic behind the prosthetic arms is that the agent actually has his hands under his coat, on a gun, ready to rock in case of emergency.

However, the internet, as usual, was wrong, as one Twitter user was able to find video where the agent wiggles his fingers. Still, gotta respect the internet for its innate ability to make something out of nothing. Even though their assumptions were wildly false, it still gave me a good chuckle, and that’s alright with me.

Pennsylvania’s highest court is reviewing the conviction of a Pittsburgh man named Jamal Knox for making threats against police in a rap song after he was charged with drug offenses. The Pennslyvania Supreme Court said it would take an appeal by Jamal Knox, who argues his song is protected by the right to free speech.

Knox wants the court to set aside his convictions for witness intimidation and making terroristic threats.

“Just because a police officer arrests you, doesn’t mean you are stripped of any free speech ability to say, ‘Wait a minute, that officer did me wrong, and here’s why I think so,'” Knox’s lawyer Patrick K. Nightingale said.

The Allegheny County district attorney’s office told the Pennslyvania Superior Court last year the song “was not mere political hyperbole but, rather, the sort of ‘true threat’ that is not protected by the First Amendment.”

Knox’s case began in April 2012 when Knox, 22, drove away after telling an officer he did not have a valid driver’s license. Following a chase in which he hit a parked car and a fence, police found 15 bags of heroin, $1,500, and a loaded gun on Knox.

Seven months after the incident, an officer came across the video online, performed by Knox under the name ‘Mayhem Mal’ of the ‘Ghetto Superstar Committee’ with co-defendant Rashee Beasley. Knox and Beasley posted another video in which they said they wrote the song, titled “F*** the Police.” The two officers identified in the song were provided with additional security protections.

Knox’s lawyers argued that Knox did not post the song online himself and that the video was taken down from YouTube after three days. Furthermore, Knox’s lawyers argued to the Superior Court that whether the song is protected free speech or a criminal threat “could hardly be of more substantial importance; it is perhaps the most salient issue of our time.”

Knox was convicted in February 2014, in relation to the video, of two counts of witness intimidation and two counts of terroristic threats. His sentence on all counts, including drug charges, was two to six years in prison. He was paroled from state prison last month.

Yes, finally, a feel-good story involving Donald Trump’s presidency. For the last week there have been protests, chaos, and complaining, so it’s nice to see that somewhere out there, there are still normal people doing normal, kind things. A waitress at Busboys & Poets received a nice surprise: A generous tip, way over the standard 20%, and it came from someone the waitress did not expect.

The Monday after Inauguration Day started out as an ordinary day for Rosalynd Harris, who works at Busboys & Poets’ 14th and V Streets location in Washington D.C. However, an ordinary day turned into an incredible one.

“I could tell they were from the south because they had their cowboy hats on and I was like, ‘Oh, you’re not from the city,'” Harris said.

“It was an interesting situation because it is a Liberal, Democratic kind of feel to the entire Busboys establishment, the people that come in, the people it attracts,” she said.

As Harris cleared the table, she saw what one of the men wrote on the check.

“The note says, ‘We may come from different cultures, and we may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people, not race, not gender, just American. God bless.”

Then, at the bottom of the $70.00 receipt was this: a $450.00 tip.

“We may have different opinions and disagree on different issues, but the fact that he still looked at me as an equal and someone of value, it said something, like OK, not all hope is lost,” Harris said.

Harris says she plans to use the money to pay her bills.

Goddamn, I wasn’t expecting that. Everything was going smooth with some jokes about Mayweather being a defensive, boring fighter and McGregor not having the conditioning to go 12 rounds. Then outta nowhere, we get McGregor kicking Mayweather in the face and literally murdering him.

I hate to burst the bubble of all of the McGregor fans out there, but him pulling out some MMA moves is the only way he could beat Mayweather in a boxing match. Brent Musburger, one of the most recognizable voices in sports television, will end his play-by-play career with ABC/ESPN at the end of January, according to an announcement released Wednesday. Musburger, 77,  who entered the national spotlight in 1975, will call his final game January 31 on ESPN as the Kentucky Wildcats host Georgia at Rupp Arena.

In his statement, Musberger said, “What a wonderful journey I have traveled with CBS and the Disney company. A love of sports allows me to live a life of endless pleasure. And make no mistake, I will miss the arenas and stadiums dearly. Most of all, I will miss the folks I have met along the trail.”

For ABC, ESPN, and the SEC Network, Musburger has hosted or called play-by-play for the NBA, college football, basketball, golf, NASCAR, and IRL races as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He called the Little League World Series from 2000-11, hosted Super Bowl XXV’s pregame and halftime shows, as well as the 1991 Pan Am Games from Cuba.

While working with ESPN Radio, Musburger handled play-by-play duties for NBA games, including the NBA Finals. He also was the original host of its daily “ESPN SportsBeat” segments.

ESPN president John Skipper released a statement about Musberger’s retirement:

“Brent’s presence and delivery have come to symbolize big time sports for multiple generations of fans. When he opens with his signature ‘You are looking live,’ you sit up straight in your chair because you know something important is about to happen. Brent’s catalog of big events is unmatched, and he has skillfully guided us through some of the most dramatic and memorable moments in sports with his authentic and distinctive style. Last night was full of upsets in college basketball. #1 Villanova lost 74-72 to Marquette, #2 Kansas lost 85-69 to #18 West Virginia, and #4 Kentucky lost 82-80 to Tennessee. While all three of these games were big deals in the college basketball landscape, only one of these contests featured a player splitting their pants.

At least he had his shorts on underneath or else that “Fat Guy In A Little Coat” impression could’ve taken a very graphic turn. Besides the risk of having a pants splitting incident, riding the bench for a college basketball team looks like an absolute blast.

In a video posted to YouTube by Rafael Franciulli, amazing slo-mo footage shows one dog snatching another dog from a raging river current in the nick of time. The video was recorded in Córdoba, Argentina.

Franciulli says that the dogs in the video were not injured, as they always play in this area of the river.

This video is essentially the exact opposite of that bullshit A Dog’s Purpose pulled. Instead of humans forcing dogs into rapid currents, it’s dogs saving other dogs from said currents.

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that getting naked in the middle of your local LA Fitness and trying to fight the customers is probably against the rules. I’m a Planet Fitness guy myself (aka I’m broke), so I’ve seen some pretty ratchet sh*t, but nothing to this level. I’ve always thought LA Fitness was supposed to be the upscale gym.

Nakia Venant, a 14-year-old girl, broadcast her suicide to Facebook Live from hMiami-area foster home as she hanged herself in the bathroom.

The Florida Department of Children and Families offered few details the suicide of Nakia Venant, whom police found hanging from the door frame in the bathroom. One of the girl’s Nakia’s friends told the Miami Herald she saw some of Venant’s two-hour livestream on Sunday and called Miami-Dade police, who then responded to Venant’s home.

“We are absolutely horrified and devastated by the news of this young girl’s death,” said DCF Secretary Mike Carroll. “We will do everything we can to support this family and all those who cared for her as they begin to heal from this tragedy. We will conduct a comprehensive, multidisciplinary special review to examine this child’s history and the circumstances related to serving the child.”

In a reply to a request from the Miami Herald on Tuesday afternoon, DCF released a three-sentence incident report on Nakia’s death. It said the teen attached her scarf to a “shower-glass door frame” to end her life at around 3:03 a.m. and was declared dead “at a local hospital.”

Miami Gardens officers found Venant hanging from the doorframe while her foster parents were asleep in their bedroom. Both Venant’s foster parents and fire-rescue crew tried to revive her. Efforts to revive Nakia were unsuccessful and she was taken to Jackson North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Gerta Telfort, a close family friend, said Nakia was her mother’s first child and only girl — and that her dream was to write a book on her life. The girl had started a daily journal, Telfort told the Herald:

“Nakia was smart academically, loved to smile and [had] lots of charisma.”

In a statement to the Miami Herald provided by Facebook spokeswoman Christine Chen, the social networking giant says it takes its responsibility to keep people safe on its site seriously:

“Our Community Standards regulate what kinds of content can be shared on Facebook. Our teams work around the clock to review content that is being reported by users, and we have systems in place to ensure that time-sensitive content is dealt with quickly.

Laura Lynne Stacy has been missing since Saturday, January 21, 2017. The 28-year-old graduate of Colorado State University recently moved from Colorado to California, and she was last seen near her apartment in the 3600 block of Barham Boulevard. Her apartment was located near Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, California, and her vehicle was discovered on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in Lancaster, California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department found her car, but unfortunately, they still haven’t been able to locate Laura.

Laura’s phone was found on Monday, January 23, 2017 at a park in Santa Clarita, California. Sadly, the phone hasn’t helped the authorities much either.

Via NBC Los Angeles, here’s more on the heartbreaking story.

“It doesn’t feel real, like a horrible nightmare I want to wake up from,” said Marcie Stacy, her mother, who flew up with her husband, Steve, from Colorado to try to help in the search.

Stacy had been studying to be a realtor and recently got into the arts and photography. Her parents believe she may have been meeting people about a job.

Stacy was described as a 5-foot, 8-inch tall white woman with blond hair and blue eyes weighing approximately 130 pounds.

“She’s sweet, kind, and hopefully she’s out there and sees this and calls us,” Marcie Stacy said. “We really want to find her and find her safe. A lot of prayers for her.”

Anytime there’s bad news to deliver, just send one out from the stable of smokes Trump seems to be collecting and the news becomes that much less brutal.

For those who are political neophytes like myself, this is Hope Hicks. Hope Charlotte Hicks, born October 21, 1988, is President Donald J. Trump’s longest serving political aide and is the current White House’s director of strategic communications.

Hicks previously served as the press secretary and early communications director for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, as well as the national press secretary for his presidential transition team. In January 2017, Hicks was honored with a spot on Forbes‘ “30 under 30” list, having “served as a one-woman press team for Trump’s historic presidential campaign.”

So, yeah, not only is this chick a dime, she’s been a one-lady-wrecking-crew for one of the biggest political movements this country has ever seen. Quite impressive.

Moore’s death was caused by cardiopulmonary arrest after she had contracted pneumonia. She was 80 years old and had battled diabetes for decades.

Moore was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 33, around the launch of her legendary show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was about an independent young woman working in a Minneapolis TV newsroom. Moore was known for her television role in The Dick Van Dyke Show. Moore also made several guest appearances in a variety of shows including Johnny Staccato, Bachelor Father, The Tab Hunter Show, 77 Sunset Strip, Surfside 6, Hawaiian Eye and Lock-Up.

Moore made her film debut in X-15 and was nominated for an Oscar in 1980 for her role in the film Ordinary People.

Moore acknowledged that she was a recovering alcoholic and wrote about it in her first two memoirs. Moore also became a spokeswoman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and served as an activist for animal rights. As a long-time animal rights activist, Moore worked with Farm Sanctuary to raise awareness about the process involved in factory farming and to promote compassionate treatment of farm animals.

In 2011, Moore was awarded the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Moore’s notable film work includes 1967’s Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1980’s Ordinary People, in which she played a role that was very different from the television characters she had portrayed, and for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
