The HTC Vive is one of the premiere VR systems you can buy right now. What makes the Vive so perfect for virtual reality gaming is that not only does it come with two wireless controllers, the HTC Vive is backed by Valve, meaning it connects to the Steam store. That spells great things for the future of gaming on the Vive.
But not all of the games are created equally. There’s definitely a short list for the best HTC Vive games right now, but the good news is that the list is growing quickly. We’ve mapped out the top five games of 2016 thus far, so all you need to do is clean your room of any obstacles and hook up your HTC Vive right now.
The Brookhaven Experiment

Probably the best game out for the HTC Vive right now is The Brookhaven Experiment, from Phosphor Games. It’s a first-person, zombie survival horror game where the player is anchored in place and tasked to fight off wave after wave of monsters in the pitch black. One hand controls the gun, the other a flashlight. As time goes on, the player can upgrade their weapons and abilities.

Something has gone terribly wrong. There aren’t many people left these days. The…things that showed up – after the Experiment tore a hole through reality – have seen to that. You’re not sure how much time you, or humanity itself, has left.
Right now you can just play the demo, but the full version will release on June 22nd (a slight delay from when it was originally scheduled to release.
Project Cars

Project Cars is a game that was originally developed for non-VR gaming, but had support added afterwards. The result is a gorgeous driving sim that puts you right in the cockpit of some of the fastest cars in the world.
Front Defense

Front Defense debuted this week at Computex 2016, Asia’s largest IT tradeshow. Not a lot was known about it, but now we can report that it’s a World War II gallery shooter. The basis of the game is simple: you’re the last line of defense, hiding behind sandbags with a machine gun turret, grenades, a bazooka, and a submachine gun. How long can you hold out for?
Since it’s a gallery shooter, we’re a little bummed that you can’t advance or retreat, but we like the idea of grabbing grenades, pulling the pin with your teeth, and throwing them. Similarly, loading the bazooka is done by stretching to insert a rocket in the rear. It’s a solid start considering the Vive’s long distance movement restrictions.
And we’ve been asking for a WWII shooter for some time now, right?
Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous, like Project CARS, is another example of an already existing game that was then made to fit VR. At its heart, Elite Dangerous is a massive space simulator, complete with a deep storyline and open world game play. It’s easily the most complete game currently available for the HTC Vive.

As of May 27th, Frontier released an update that fixed a couple of bugs regarding HTC Vive support.
#SelfieTennis

#SelfieTennis is definitely one of the weirdest HTC Vive games available right now. True to its name, the game tasks you with playing tennis against yourself. Once you hit the ball, you’re magically transported to the other side of the court where you hit the ball back.
But along with the tennis aspects of the game, you’re also welcome to attack the “Heart People” i.e. fans standing near or on the court. That particular aspect of the game is a little strange, but it’s a great way to release some aggression when your “opponent” hits a great shot.
