The 8-5 season that the Texas A&M Aggies had in 2015 was far from what fans and the team would have wanted to see. It was a rough ride and with several transfers out of the program in the offseason, things may not get much better this coming year. Trevor Knight did transfer in however and he will have Ricky Seals-Jones and Christian Kirk as his wide receivers which will help move the offense in the right direction from day one. A schedule that also includes four home games in their last five contests should also help coming down the stretch including a Thanksgiving Night matchup with LSU to end the regular season. Will Knight take to the Kevin Sumlin system quick enough?

The Texas Longhorns have a long tradition of winning football. Recent seasons haven’t seen that occur much if not all. After a 5-7 season in 2015, the fans are getting restless and want to see winning football return to Austin. With Jerrod Heard likely starting at quarterback, there is some hope that things will be changing in a positive matter. A tough opener against Notre Dame will be a stern test plus having to face Oklahoma State and Oklahoma over two straight weeks will really test how good this Longhorns team really is. If Heard can get better as a sophomore, maybe Texas can go to a bowl game and bring back some of the credibility to the program.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been one of the most high-flying offense attacks in all of college football for a long time now.  The team went 7-6 last season and scored 586 points in the process but gave up 567 points as well. That can’t continue as games aren’t going to end 61-58 all the way. The 2016 campaign should bring new challenges but Patrick Mahomes does return at quarterback for his junior year. Mahomes showed a lot last season and could be in line for another 5,000-yard season off his right shoulder. There will be a huge test as Oklahoma State in November that could make or break any conference title hopes for the Red Raiders in 2016.

The UCLA Bruins would have loved to have finished better than 8-5 overall as they struggled in the Pac-12 South. It is a new year for UCLA and with it comes a difficult schedule that includes a game at Texas A&M right away and the normal game against USC later in the season.  Josh Rosen returns for his sophomore season and should improve over last year’s freshman campaign. Rosen showed a lot of potential last year and now will hope that his offensive teammates can play great around him. On defense, Eddie Vanderdoes is a beast that will return from injury and is one of the best in the country at defensive line when he is healthy. This season will depend a ton on health for UCLA.

The USC Trojans made it to the Pac-12 conference title game last season with an 8-4 record in a bad South Division. The Trojans now face an uphill battle in 2016 to even get back to that same record with a very tough schedule that starts with Alabama and includes trips to Stanford and UCLA and a season-ending matchup against Notre Dame. JuJu Smith-Schuster is the best wide receiver in all of college football coming into this season and has plenty of help on offense to make this a very successful USC team moving forward. If they can get through the huge roadblock ahead of them, this may be a year where they can get back to the conference title game.

There was some disappointment from the Utah Utes last season. The team went 10-3 but a loss to USC took them out of contention for the Pac-12 Conference title game. Now the team hopes that they can rebound from that and be the team to beat in the conference for 2016. The team will have a new starting quarterback in 2016 as well which may cause some early issues but the schedule is one where the USC game is at home which will be to the team’s benefit. Is this a team that could break into the national championship race even? Anything is possible for Utah in 2016 especially if things break all the right way.

A 4-8 record for the Vanderbilt Commodores in 2015 wouldn’t be any person’s happy zone for a team’s outcome for a season.  Kyle Shurmur will have the honor of trying to lead this team to the promised land in 2016. The sophomore will have a lot of work ahead of him though with a schedule that features some very interesting contests including starting against South Carolina in front of a national television audience. The division may be tough and the final game of the season against Tennessee may decide if Vanderbilt goes to a bowl game or not. It all comes down to Shurmur’s right shoulder. Can the sophomore handle that?

The Washington Huskies finished the 2015 season on a roll with three straight wins including a bowl game victory. The 2016 season should bring a ton of promise to the program as well. Jake Browning comes back as the starting quarterback and the sophomore will need last year’s experience to his benefit hoping to get the Huskies to the top of the Pac-12 Conference. One huge advantage will be the fact that the Stanford game will be at home so maybe the Huskies can find a way to make that their upset special for the season but a solid bowl berth is definitely in the cards for Browning this season. Mike Leach has brought his high-flying style of offense to the Washington State Cougars. That style got the team a 9-4 record in 2015. Luke Falk returns at quarterback this season and could hit the 5,000-yard mark this season for Washington State. There will be two very big games in October that will make or break the Cougars’ season as they travel to Stanford and then host UCLA. If Washington State can win at least one of those games, anything is possible with this team moving forward. Falk is the real deal and will lead the Cougars to big things in 2016.

The West Virginia Mountaineers started hot in 2015 before running into some trouble in conference play and ending with an 8-5 record. The new season should bring a big chance for the team to improve on that record from last year. Skyler Howard played well last season and goes into his senior year trying to take West Virginia over the top. If Howard can make that happen along with a schedule that does have some easier games on it, the Mountaineers should be way on their way to another 8 or 9-win season in 2016. If Howard were to falter though, things could go downhill very quickly at West Virginia this coming year.

The Wisconsin Badgers always have a great roster no matter the season. In 2015, Wisconsin went 10-3 after winning their last two games. There will be a few changes this year with a new starting quarterback to worry about but one thing that is certain is the running back. Corey Clement is the real deal and the senior will go into this year looking to improve on his work from a year ago. If Clement can carry this team on his legs, the Badgers could make a special run in the Big Ten. A game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay against LSU will be a special opener to the season but trips to Michigan State and Michigan may trip this Wisconsin team up before October is too old.

Memorial Day has its customs. American flags fly at half staff until noon on Memorial Day, and then are raised to the top of the staff until sunset. The World War I poem “In Flanders Fields,” by John McCrea, inspired the Memorial Day custom of wearing red poppies, which became the official symbol of remembrance.

The federal holiday is observed every year on the last Monday of May, making it Memorial Day Weekend. For 2016, Memorial Day falls on May 30th. Technically, summer doesn’t start until June 21, but a lot of people consider Memorial Day Weekend to be the unofficial start of the season. Before you hit the beach and heat up the grill, take a moment to pause and remember.

Joanna Palani is a boss. This gorgeous 23-year-old left college to go kill members of ISIS like a badass. But don’t get too hyped — according to her, it wasn’t even that hard. “ISIS fighters are very easy to kill,” she explained during a recent interview with Broadly.

Well, ok then.

Palani was born into an Iranian-Kurdish family in a refugee camp in Iraq. Eventually the family fled to Copenhagen, Denmark, where she endured a relatively normal childhood. Until she was 9 years old; the age she learned to shoot her first rifle. Obviously she was destined to be a badass and change the world.

When news broke about what was going on in Syria, Palani was in college studying philosophy and politics. But instead of finishing out and getting her degree, she decided to drop out and join the fight against ISIS.

“On the 14th of November 2014 I went to Iraq, and then I went to Rojova in Syria,” she explained. “I was with the YPG for six months and then I was with the Peshmerga for six months, so I was fighting for a year.”

One of her greatest victories came in 2015, when she helped liberate a village captured by ISIS. Located outside Mosul, Palani found a large group of children being sexually abused by ISIS militants and helped lead them to freedom.

Unfortunately her military career was cut short by the Danish government when authorities confiscated her passport “under laws intended to stem the movement of ISIS fan boys to the conflict.”

“After arriving in Denmark the police sent me an email after only three days. It said my passport was no longer valid, and would be revoked if I was to attempt to leave the country,” she explained. “If I was to go back I could go to jail for six years.”

Until she is able to return to her military roots, Palani is back in school and livening up her Instagram page, the latter of which we are eternally grateful for.

When it comes to beer, I prefer things simple: cool and f*cking delicious. That’s it. But like every person on the face of the planet, I have a line I will not cross, and that line is definitely well before whale vomit.

Moby Dick Ambergris Ale is making a name for themselves for one of their disgusting key ingredients: whale vomit. The limited-run beer is literally brewed using the throw-up from sperm whales. Apparently it’s also used in perfumes. Who knew Australians were so f*cked up?

“The result is a pungent, animalistic aroma, musky ethereal perfume, full body, caramel malt and fruity flavours, very balanced bitterness,” the brewery’s website states. “Though the aroma may not be for the faint-hearted, and the beer isn’t exactly vegan-friendly, the ambergris perfume adds another dimension to this unique tasting experience.”

According to UPI,  not everyone is as appalled by this ingredient as I am.

Robe Town brewers Maris and Kristi Biezaitis told ABC News that the idea for the beer was inspired by a friend’s discovery of a lump of ambergris.

“When I heard that ambergris was used in the perfume industry, I thought ‘I wonder if that could be used to flavor or spice up a beer,’” Maris Biezaitis said. “It was a relatively fresh piece, quite a smelly piece, so it was airing and curing in the backyard before I got hold of it.”

Kristi Biezaitis said the beer has a “challenging” taste and stays true to its ocean roots. “It tastes a little bit like the sea, it tastes a little bit like marine animals. It’s really interesting I think,” she said.

Bernie Sanders was at Game 7 between the Warriors and the OKC Thunder last night, along with his friend Danny Glover (who’s apparently not getting too old for this sh*t).

Obviously Bernie, an adult American male, can do whatever he wants–but we’d like to point out that courtside tickets to the game were $30K each. Keep in mind that this was the Democratic candidate who wanted the super rich (who were most definitely in attendance) and foreign nationals (who’ve helped to make tickets to the Warriors so expensive) to “feel the Bern.”

We haven’t yet gotten any comment from Bernie about the inequality of shots that Durant and Westbrook took.

Jack Jakubek, a former college swimmer and captain of SUNY-Cortland’s swim team, died tragically this past weekend during a lifeguard fitness test.

Jack, an accomplished swimmer who had been a lifeguard last summer, was taking the test at Pilgrim Lake in Orleans, MA when he went missing. According to the Orleans Fire-Rescue Department, Jack went under water while trying to swim to a buoy. He had just graduated two weeks earlier.

Several rescue teams responded to the scene, including a dive team, Massachusetts StatePolice and the United States Coast Guard. Jakubet was found off shore by divers at 9:23 a.m., and efforts to resuscitate him failed as he was brought back to shore by boat, the fire department said [source].

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jack, his family, and his friends. By all accounts, Jack was an outstanding individual who was loved by all who met him. Jack’s former SUNY-Cortland coach, Brian Tobin, called Jack a “great teammate” who “everyone could rely on.”

Rome University student Sara Di Pietrantonio  was burned alive by her ex-boyfriend after she left him, authorities said Monday. The lead investigator called the most atrocious crime he has seen in his career.

Di Pietrantonio, 22, died before dawn Sunday after Vincenzo Paduano, 27, set her car afire, prosecutor Maria Monteleone told reporters. He then chased her after she ran out of the car, setting her ablaze when he caught up with her, authorities said. Paduano was being held for premeditated murder, with the prosecutor saying of the crime: “Paduano didn’t accept being abandoned’ by the woman. He organized, he planned the aggression.”

Luigi Silipo, the lead police official in the investigation said: “I can say that in 25 years in this work I have never seen something so atrocious.”

Silipo continued to describe the events in detail:

The suspect walked off his job as a security guard about 3 am and waited outside the home of Di Pietrantonio’s current boyfriend. Then, after the woman left the home and drove off by herself, Paduano drove off, eventually forcing her car to the side of the road, he said. He got into her car, and after an argument, doused the car (interior) with a small bottle of alcohol, and doused Sara, too. She ran out, he torched the car, caught up with her, and after about 100 meters set her ablaze, leaving her to die in an atrocious manner.

Who Was Sara?

Sara was a twenty-two year old student at a university in Rome. She had been dating a man, Vincenzo Paduano, five years her senior for two years before she broke it off with him.

Who Was Vincenzo?

Vincent Paduano was a security guard who confessed to the murder of Sara. He had been dating Sara for two years prior to their breakup.

According to sources, Vincenzo originally denied any involvement in her murder. Eight hours of interrogation later, he confessed.

What Happened?

Sara had broken up with Vincenzo and then began dating someone else. Vincenzo, unable to deal with reality, confessed to police that he had been stalking Sara. He left his job at 3 AM on Saturday night and waited outside her new boyfriend’s house.

When he saw Sara leave her new partner’s house, he snapped

Vincenzo followed Sara from her new boyfriend’s house in his car. He rammed Sara’s car with his, and forced her to pull over.

Once she had pulled over, Vincenzo grabbed a bottle of alcohol and began pouring it on Sara and the rest of the car. Sara, fearing for her life, fled from the car. Vincenzo, using a cigarette lighter, first lit her car on fire. He then chased her over 100 meters and then lit her face on fire.

“Prosecutor Maria Monteleone added some motorists drove by as Ms Di Pietrantonio cried for help but no one stopped or called police,” wrote Metro UK.
