Today is Veterans Day – a day to honor the brave men and women whom sacrificed their lives and served in our country’s armed forces. If I ever need a good cry, “Soldiers Returning Home” videos are my go to. A lot of us say we appreciate and support our armed services, yet none of us (except for those with military family) understand the true depth of sacrifice these brave individuals experience. However, the pure emotion in these videos give us civilians a slight idea of how emotionally taxing having a loved one in the military is.

Whether it be a man coming home to his wife and kids, a woman coming home to her boyfriend, or a 20 something coming home to their pet dog, these videos pack a serious emotional punch.

The fourth Republican debate aired last night and for those of you who missed the entertainment, we have the full video here.

Eight candidates – Donald Trump, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich – took to the stage during the primetime event in Milwaukee last night at 9 p.m. to debate some of America’s most important issues, like the job market and general state of the economy. Needless to say there were a lot of different opinions up there, and some candidates went straight for the jugular.

Moderated by Neil Cavuto, Maria Bartiromo, and Gerard Baker and airing on the Fox Business Network, things got heated right off the bat between Donald Trump and pretty much everyone else up there.

Last night, students of the University of Missouri were in a state of readiness after they learned someone had posted a vague death threat on the campus’ Yik Yak thread reading “Some of you are alright. Don’t go to campus tomorrow.”

News of the threat spread fast around campus and social media.

Soon, a more direct and threatening post appeared on the timeline.

School authorities were quick to step up and answer the call.

This morning, Columbia police announced that they had arrested a suspect in connection to the posts (plural). That suspect is probably looking at a minimum of one felony charge.

Update: MUPD released the name and information of the man they arrested.

Here’s part of their official statement:

University of Missouri Police have apprehended the suspect who posted threats to campus on YikYak and other social media. The suspect is in MUPD custody and was not located on or near the MU campus at the time of the threat. We will update this website as additional information is confirmed. MU is operating on a regular schedule. Please check here for official information. Safety is the university’s top priority and we are working hard to assure that the campus remains safe while information is obtained and confirmed.

The school’s outgoing chancellor, R. Bowen Loftin, also posted on Twitter that the suspect used “multiple accounts” to make those threats.

My biggest question is that how was the suspect not located on or near the MU campus when the threat was made? Isn’t Yik Yak supposed to be location based? It’s possible that the person was an alumni or a current student away from campus when it was written and had the location saved on his device. Either way, we’re happy the situation was dealt with.

The truth is that a few hateful people had been writing racist, hurtful things on Yik Yak since Monday and the #ConcernedStudent1950 movement’s peak, but no one had gone ahead and directly crossed the line until last night.

People stupidly (and thankfully) assume that everything they post from their phone is anonymous–but it’s not. This is the second time in less than a month that threats made on Yik Yak have resulted in arrests.

Today is Diwali–more commonly known as the “Festival of Lights” to English speakers–for millions of Hindus and Jains. The Festival itself lasts for five days, but Diwali is the largest celebration within that time period. Diwali isn’t based on a Roman calendar, but rather is celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Kartika in the Hindu calendar. This particular day coincides with a new moon which allows all the candles, sparklers, fireworks and other light sources to illuminate the sky more brilliantly.

Specific celebrations vary from region to region, but the overall theme is that people light and place candles or lamps in the windows. But it doesn’t stop in the windows, people take to the streets and light all sorts of things. Our favorite are the gorgeous floating lanterns they release into the sky.

Even if you’re not a Hindu, it’s hard to argue that these photos of Diwali aren’t beautiful to look at. We pulled together a selection of some of the best photos from around the world of people celebrating the Festival of Lights for you below.

The word Diwali means rows of lighted lamps. During the Festival of Lights, houses and shops are decorated with candles and colorful lights. This shows the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. For many Indians, Diwali honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and people will start the new business year at Diwali and some will say prayers to the goddess for a prosperous year ahead.

Hunter M. Park has been identified as the man who was arrested for last night’s University of Missouri death threats made over Yik Yak. According to the media release, Hunter is not a University of Missouri-Columbia student and was arrested in Rolla, MS. That’s two hours away from Columbia, MS.

We’ve also learned Hunter he has a GitHub page linked to a Missouri State email address and that the page claims he’s a CS Math major.

Considering his knowledge of computers and technology, the fact that he didn’t know he’d be arrested for posting that threat is absurd but might explain how he was able to write on Mizzou’s Yik Yak wall. He might have used a VPN to confuse the app and make it look like he was in Columbia and just forgot to cover his tracks well enough.

The information comes from a media release made by MUPD this morning:

At approximately 1:50 AM, Wed, Nov. 11, the University of Missouri Police Department arrested Hunter M Park for making a terrorist thraet (Revised Missouri Statue 574.115). The threat on Yik Yak was reported on Nov. 10 to MUPD by numerous people.

Park was contacted in Rolla, MO. by the University of Missouri Police and transported to the University of Missouri Police Department in Columbia where he was arrested and processed. Additional information cannot be released due to the investigative nature of the report.

Bail has been set at $4,500.

In the midst of the recent Starbucks scandal – and by scandal we mean, everyone who cares about this is stupid – Bloomingdales might be taking the limelight. Luckily, it’s for a much better reason.

The monstrous department store just released a new holiday ad that seems to promote drugging your hot girl friends and raping them. Happy holidays!

The ad shows a man and a woman – the man staring adoringly at his female counterpart who is laughing in the opposite direction – and between them the line, “Spike Your Best Friend’s Eggnog When They’re Not Looking.” Umm… this is how a lot of Law & Order: SVU episodes start.

Besides the whole date rapey vibe, which is really hard to deny, the dude in the ad looks exactly like Robin Thicke, which is terrifying for separate reasons. There’s virtually no amount of PR or marketing that can cover the department store’s ass on this one.

Snoop Dogg is taking his career to the next level with Leafs by Snoop (who cares about grammar these days?), a new line of branded marijuana.

Snoop’s line includes eight different types of marijuana flower, including flavors like Lemon Pie, Northern Lights and Cali Kush, as well as edibles and concentrates. Finally, the man is doing God’s work.

“Leafs by Snoop is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer,” Snoop told Cannabist. “LBS is blazing a trail for the industry.”

The rapper’s first attempt at breaking into the marijuana business was earlier this year when he launched Merry Jane, a website that focuses on bud-culture, in September. So basically, anything weed-related that comes from Snoop Dogg can be trusted, so start saving your pennies.

However, there’s kind of a catch – Snoop can’t officially own Leafs by Snoop because he isn’t a Colorado resident.

According to Time, “the company Beyond Broadway, which operates under the moniker LivWell, will have official ownership and will be responsible for growing the marijuana plants and manufacturing the edibles and concentrate.”

Cassandra is the latest client to walk into the Botched surgical exam room requesting that the reality TV doctors fix her nose because she’s having trouble breathing out of it. Presumably because she f*cked it up so many times with surgeries. After the doctors explained that they’d have to make it larger in order to solve the problem, Cassandra retracted her request, because a bigger nose just isn’t Jessica Rabbit. Smart woman!

The San Francisco resident explained that she idolized the cartoon vixen growing up and lovingly refers to herself as a “cosmetic concoction.” Along with her new nose, Cassandra was looking for doctors to remove her ribs in order to get that unrealistic shape of Jessica Rabbit’s hips.

During her consultation, Cassandra revealed that she’s gotten her breasts, hips, butt, brow, lips and cheeks done, and that the only thing she hasn’t mutilated with surgical tools is her heart.

Joaquin Guzman Loera, “El Chapo”, has been called the “greatest criminal drug threat to the U.S.”. And he has had one hell of a year. He escaped from prison, threatened Donald Trump’s life, and, well, basically controls all of America’s drug market. Including Alaska and Hawaii. No big deal.

“The Sinaloa Cartel maintains the most significant presence in the U.S. “‘El Chapo’ Guzmán is the world’s #1 drug criminal,” DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne said. “El Chapo has facilitated a lot of American deaths through the violence of people that work for him.”

Using a map provided by Forbes, you can see that basically the entire country is getting their fix in on El Chapo’s stash. See all that yellow? Yup, that’s El Chapo. And we’re not just talking bud here: we’re talking about a cornucopia (I’ve been waiting so long to use this word in an article) of drugs.  We’re talking about weed, cocaine, heroine, and meth. Not Walter White’s blue stuff, but meth none the less.

This has got to be really eye opening for some people, myself included. You hear “El Chapo” and “drug lord” all the time, but don’t really put much thought into. But then, when you see that he literally fuels the entire U.S. drug market, as well as the fact that he is worth an astounding $1 billion, you begin to understand why he’s such a threat.

But hey, if he ain’t doing it, someone else will.

Everyone is watching what’s happening at the University of Missouri, including some students at Ithaca College who are now calling for the resignation of President Thomas Rochon. Earlier this week, President Tim Wolfe stepped down as President of Mizzou.

According to the Ithaca students who operate under the name People of Color at Ithaca College (POCatIC), they’re demanding Tom Rochon’s resignation in response to what they believe is systematic racism on campus. The Student Government Association has sent out a vote, asking students to send out a vote of “Confidence” or “No Confidence.” The deadline is November 30th.

Some examples of this systematic injustice include a “Preps and Crooks” fraternity party and two safety and two Public Safety Officers who dismissed a question from an RA about racial profiling on campus, simply saying that “it doesn’t happen.” These Public Safety Officers then failed to appear at a follow-up meeting.

But perhaps the biggest recent issue involves a “microaggression” made against one female black speaker by two Ithaca alumni on a panel. This one speaker made one comment that she had a “savage hunger” to succeed in her career, and was then referred to as a “savage” a total of four times by the two alumni.

Ithaca College students voted last year to set up a microaggression reporting system.

President Tom Rochon immediately apologized after event for the transgression and made this comment:

In general, the college cannot prevent the use of hurtful language on campus. Such language, intentional or unintentional, exists in the world and will seep into our community. We can’t promise that the college will never host a speaker who could say something racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or otherwise disrespectful. Even so, we reaffirm our commitment to making our campus an inclusive and respectful community.

But back to the protests today.

Hundreds if not thousands of Ithaca students held a walk out today at 1:30 PM EST in support of POCatIC and were joined by faculty members. This walk out then transformed to a “die in” where students lay on the ground and paths for 20 minutes.

For the most part, kids are pretty indestructible.  They possess an admirable combination of innocence and bravery, not to mention a low center of gravity and their bodies haven’t yet learned to seize up in moments of unexpected danger.  A hard-swung glass door to the face would knock out the strongest of adults, but not these kids.  Their resilience is incredibly impressive, which makes watching them get their clocks cleaned is SO MUCH FUN.

Ithaca College students and faculty operating under the name People of Color at Ithaca College (POCatIC) staged a massive walkout on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 PM EST. The group all met at “Freedom Rock”

The walkout was in support of a movement to force President Tom Rochon to resign from his role at the school.

Chants of “No Rochon No Confidence” could be heard all over campus today. President Rochon was seen at the protest but didn’t say anything.
