It is turning into one of those dream seasons for the Clemson Tigers. Clemson is ranked No. 1 in the country with their 9-0 record and will look to move to 10-0 on Saturday as they go to the Carrier Dome to face the Syracuse Orange in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Syracuse is 3-6 for the season and 1-4 in the ACC while Clemson is 6-0 in conference play and has clinched the Atlantic Division title and a berth in the conference title game.

Clemson clinched that berth last week with a 23-13 win over Florida State at home sparking a huge celebration. The Tigers are averaging 488 yards a game behind their offense led by Deshaun Watson. Watson has 2,233 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wayne Gallman is nearing the 1,000 yard mark in the run game with 977 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Artavis Scott has 56 catches for 554 yards and four touchdowns as one of the top receivers for Watson on the year. The schedule looks light for the Tigers to finish the regular season undefeated.

Syracuse got hammered by Louisville during a 41-17 loss on the road. Eric Dungey has thrown for 1,298 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions at quarterback for the Orange while Steve Ishmael has become Dungey’s favorite target with 30 catches for 458 yards and five touchdowns. The rushing game is being led by Jordan Fredericks, who has 426 yards on the ground to go with three touchdowns. There will be a capacity crowd into the Carrier Dome and a chance for the Orange to pull off a huge upset for their home fans.

There is no doubt that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are a very talented and dangerous team this season but their one loss may come back to haunt them for the college football playoff. The Irish at 8-1 for the year will try to continue their winning ways as they host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon in South Bend. Wake Forest is just 3-6 for the season and would need to win their final three games to make a bowl game which seems unlikely at this point.

Notre Dame beat Pittsburgh 42-30 last week on the road and will likely need to win out to have a shot at the playoff. DeShone Kizer has been great after replacing an injured Malik Zaire. Kizer has thrown for 1,931 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Will Fuller has been the recipient of plenty of Kizer throws this season with 44 catches for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns. C.J. Prosise has rushed for 975 yards and 11 touchdowns but may not play due to a concussion suffered last week at Pittsburgh.

Wake Forest is coming off of a 20-19 loss against Louisville in their last game and have lost three straight. John Wolford has thrown for 1,143 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions at quarterback for the Demon Deacons. Cortez Lewis has led the receivers with 36 catches for 468 yards and two touchdowns while Kendall Hinton has 316 yards rushing and six touchdowns to lead the run game. This would be a great place for an upset for Wake Forest to make a statement.

Demitri Allison, an Elon University student and football player, was pronounced dead last night after falling out of a ten-story building.

The junior management major and wide receiver on the Elon Phoenix football team was found dead Wednesday after falling out of Morrison Residence Hall. Allison hadn’t been seen since Tuesday.

“His teammates, friends and family asked police to look for him because they were concerned for his well-being and emotional state,” Smith Jackson, the school’s Dean of Students, explained in a statement.

A “Gathering of Friends” is planned for 4:30 pm today at the Rhodes Stadium.

“Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated,” Dave Blank, the school’s athletic director stated. “Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates.”

The college announced their grievances on Twitter last night:

A second arrest has been made in connection to the string of Yik Yak death threats made against black people in Missouri yesterday. Connor Stottlemyre, a 19-year-old freshman at Northwest Missouri State University, was arrested on suspicion of writing a terroristic threat on his own campus’s Yik Yak feed. NMSU spokesman Mark Hornickel spoke to the media, admitting that Connor had written some threats, including “I’m going to shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready.”

Connor was arrested in his dorm at 11 AM yesterday. As of Wednesday night, Connor hadn’t yet been charged.

Hunter M Park, a student at Missouri State in Rolla, MS, was also arrested yesterday in a separate crime for writing death threats on the University of Missouri’s Yik Yak even though he was hours away from campus.

Both Northwest Missouri State and the University of Missouri have stated they will continue to investigate all threats made against black students and people.

Considering all the negative press involving the Yik Yak app, it was really only a matter of time before the PR ninjas came to the front. Here’s a statement from the company:

Just like the rest of you, we’ve been following the recent events at University of Missouri and we’ve felt a mix of inspiration, disappointment, hope, and sadness at what the Mizzou community has been going through. Ultimately, we’ve been impressed by the strength of the student body during an extremely tough time.

It’s our hope that the range of discussion on MU’s campus can help to bring about positive resolution and a better understanding within the community. But there’s a point where discussion can go too far – and the threats that were posted on Yik Yak last night were both upsetting and completely unacceptable. Let’s not waste any words here: This sort of misbehavior is NOT what Yik Yak is to be used for. Period. It is not condoned by Yik Yak, and it violates our Terms of Service.

We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: Yik Yak is not anonymous! Of course, we’d prefer if the racist, hateful idiots who write death threats refrain from learning that little fact but don’t think that you’re completely safe with anything that you write.

The Big 12 Conference has shown this season that they deserve to get a team into the college football playoff this season after being shut out last year. On Saturday night, two of the top teams in the conference will meet as the 8-0 Baylor Bears host the 8-1 Oklahoma Sooners. Baylor is 5-0 in the conference and ranked 4^th in the country while Oklahoma is 5-1 in the conference and ranked 12^th overall. This game may go a long way towards who wins the conference even with many games to go.

Baylor slipped past Kansas State last week with a 31-24 win and are averaging 57.4 points and 665.6 yards per game. With Seth Russell out for the season, Jarrett Stidham played well in his first start last game. Stidham is 47-for-61 for the season for 750 yards and nine touchdowns. Corey Coleman is finding a lot of open space in the secondary with 58 catches for 1,178 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Bears. Shock Linwood has 1,046 yards rushing and nine touchdowns and is averaging 7.8 yards per rush. Baylor needs to win out to make the playoff especially with their weak non-conference schedule.

Oklahoma beat up on Iowa State last week with a 52-16 win and average 46.3 points and 549.3 yards themselves per game. Baker Mayfield has 2,812 yards passing, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions for the Sooners in dominating the opposing secondary. Sterling Shepard has 47 catches for 826 yards and seven touchdowns as Mayfield’s best downfield target. In the running game, Samaje Perine has 806 yards on the ground along with ten touchdowns. This is a very talented Sooners team but can they slow down the Baylor offense enough to get a win on the road?

Claremont McKenna College’s junior class president resigned this week over a racially insensitive Halloween costume getup.

The photo – which featured four CMC students and one Scripps student – shows a bunch of girls’ Halloween costumes, two of which are blonde white girls dressed up like Mexican stereotypes. One of the girls in the photo turned out to be Kris Brackmann, ASCMC Junior Class President. She is seen at the bottom holding a sign that reads “sorry,” for Justin Bieber’s latest music video.

The photo started circulating early Sunday after CMC junior Casey Garcelon reposted the photo on her Facebook with the caption “Dear Claremont community,
For anyone who ever tries to invalidate the experiences of POC at the Claremont Colleges, here is a reminder of why we feel the way we do. Don’t tell me I’m overreacting, don’t tell me I’m being too sensitive. My voice will not be silenced. I’m mentally drained from being a part of this community and I’ve had enough. If you feel uncomfortable by my cover photo, I want you to know I feel uncomfortable as a person of color everyday on this campus.”

The post initially received a ton of support, getting over 100 shares on Facebook and 600 notes on Tumblr. But the other girls in the photo immediately asked for Garcelon to take it down after getting a ton of backlash on the racially insensitive dress-up. She refused.

According to Sotre News, things quickly went downhill from there:

When the ASCMC Senate gathered for its 9pm meeting on Monday night, Executive Vice President Iris Liu ‘16 bypassed the regular agenda to go straight to Open Forum, in order to make time for an extended discussion of the incident and related issues. A large number of students of color attended the meeting to raise their concerns, and the discussion opened with Denys Reyes ‘16 giving a brief overview of the photo that was posted and the responses that it received — including many comments critical of Garcelon for sharing the photo. “A lot of students of color are really hurt,” Reyes stated.

…With regards to Junior Class President Kris Brackmann’s involvement with the photo, one student in Senate stated that she serves on Brackmann’s junior class council, and emotionally explained that “I took it a bit more personally” that Brackmann “didn’t even think; all she asked was, ‘crop me out of the photo.’” This comment referenced one of the messages that Garcelon shared in her post on Tumblr, from a conversation between Brackmann and a friend of Garcelon’s whom Brackmann asked to delete the photo (she declined). In one of her messages, Brackmann wrote, “I fully understand your decision to keep the photo up, but could you please crop me out of it? It associates me with something I also think is offensive and a lot of comments have been targeted at me, by people who think that I was part of the group costume. I don’t want this to compromise my role and legitimacy as class president.”

…When students in Senate raised their concerns about Brackmann’s position on ASCMC, which Taylor Lemmons also expressed in her post on Medium, ASCMC President Will Su ‘16 responded, “I don’t have any direct accountability on DOS [Dean of Students Office], but I can be accountable for the actions of ASCMC.” Su explained that he was out of town over the weekend, and thus unable to attend Sunday night’s Executive Board meeting, but he was alerted to the situation with the photo on Sunday night, after which, Su stated, “I decided to ask Kris Brackmann to resign.” He said that he did so in person on Monday. “I’d just like to express to the student body that ASCMC finds this completely irresponsible, and I don’t think she can effectively represent students in her class.”

On Tuesday morning Brackmann announced her resignation in an email to the school. The Anthropology and and Psychology dual major is also a student athlete – playing for the school’s women’s basketball team – and writing intern for The Golden Antlers. Needless to say, she is a prominent student on campus.

As a bystander I did not assertively speak out against the costumes, despite knowing that they were disrespectful. Even worse, I associated myself with the offensive message by willingly standing in a photo with the costumes. My actions poorly represented me as someone who is supposed to represent all students. I am regretfully sorry to have been associated with this harmful incident, and after thoughtful consideration I have decided to leave my position as the Junior Class President.” In her email, she also asked those who have come to her defense for the photo to “stop blaming discrimination on ignorance. Please learn from my mistakes in order to best help me create a safe environment for everyone.

Personally I think everyone is overreacting. While the costume in question was in poor taste, the class president wasn’t the one wearing it. Unfortunately you can’t control the stupidity of your friends.

Students at the school who feel marginalized participated in a demonstration Wednesday afternoon to get a list of demands fulfilled by school administration. A permanent resource center for marginalized students and a more diverse faculty were among the dozen demands.

There are just three regular season games left in the 2015 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes as they attempt to repeat as national champions. Ohio State is undefeated at 9-0 for the season and 5-0 in the Big Ten but is ranked No. 2 in the country now behind Clemson. The Buckeyes will look to remain without a loss on Saturday afternoon as they go on the road to face the Illinois Fighting Illini in Champaign. The Illini are 5-4 overall this season and 2-3 in the Big Ten Conference.

Ohio State pulled out a 28-14 win last week against Minnesota in a game that didn’t go as well as the Buckeyes would have wanted. J.T. Barrett will start after being suspended for the team’s last game. Barrett pled guilty to a DUI charge on Tuesday but will remain the team’s quarterback. Barrett is 41-for-62 for 472 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions for the season. Barrett will be looking the way of Michael Thomas quite a bit with his 39 catches for 575 yards and seven touchdowns. Ezekiel Elliott is turning into one of the best running backs in the country with 1,244 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.

Illinois flew past Purdue last week with a 48-14 win and are just one win away from clinching a bowl berth. Wes Lunt has played great at quarterback for the Illini with 2,000 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Geronimo Allison has found his hands on the ball a lot from Lunt this year with 56 catches for 756 yards and three touchdowns. Ke’Shawn Vaughn has rushed for 665 yards and six touchdowns to lead the run game for Illinois, who would love to get that sixth win before having to finish the season against Northwestern.

It was a big week last week for the Alabama Crimson Tide as they knocked off the No. 2 team in the college football playoff rankings in LSU. This week, the Crimson Tide will look to avoid a letdown with their 8-1 overall record as they travel to Davis Wade Stadium to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are 7-2 for the season and 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference. This is a huge game for both teams as the season begins to wind down.

The Crimson Tide beat up on LSU during a 30-16 win last week at home. Derrick Henry was the star last week with over 200 yards rushing and now has 1,254 rushing yards for the season and 17 touchdowns. In the pass game, it is all about the connection between Jake Coker and Calvin Ridley. Coker has thrown for 1,807 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions while Ridley has 52 catches for 576 yards and three touchdowns. Alabama has to go into this game with the same attitude they did against LSU or an upset could happen.

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 31-13 win at Missouri last week and have won four straight games. Dax Prescott has been a one-man wrecking crew for Mississippi State this season with 2,351 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and just one interception. He also is leading the team in rushing with 418 yards on the ground and seven more touchdowns. De’Runnya Wilson is the man to watch for when Prescott does throw with 37 catches for 626 yards and eight touchdowns. It is going to be up to Prescott to either win or lose this game for the Bulldogs with his play.

It’s been a great week for pot heads, with the announcement of Snoop Dogg’s latest career endeavor – a new marijuana brand called Leafs By Snoop – and now this, a new study that states that millennials who smoke weed are getting laid more often than those who don’t.

Is there any better news you’d want to hear? Besides like, “here have this bag for free?” No.

Centering around 500,117 18- to 34-year-olds and carried out by SKYN condoms, the study found that weed not only enhances sex drive, but it also makes for a hotter sex life.

Just over 14% of participants stated that people who smoke weed every day get it on several times a day, as opposed to the 5% who reported the same thing but didn’t smoke.

The study also found that daily smokers had more sexual partners and one night stands, with 37% of participants saying that they had 15 or more partners. 14% of those who didn’t smoke said they had similar track records. The pothead wins out again!

While the study also showed that high levels of cannabis could cause erectile dysfunction – similar to the effects of alcohol – 59% of those surveyed reported having amazing sex all of the time, despite their love for the bud. Only 41% of nonsmokers said the same.

So what’s the moral of this story? Smoke up, ya square!

UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm is the latest UFC event, taking place on November 15, 2015 at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The event will be the first that the promotion has held in Melbourne.

The event was expected to be headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship bout between current champion Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit, a former WEC Welterweight champion and former interim UFC Welterweight champion. However, the bout was scrapped from the event after Lawler suffered a thumb injury.  Subsequently, a UFC Bantamweight Championship bout between undefeated champion Ronda Rousey and top contender Holly Holm was announced as the new headliner for this event. This marks the second time in UFC history where both co-main-events are headlined by women bouts.

Florent “Flo” Groberg was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama on Thursday morning, the highest and most prestigious award that can be earned by military personnel. The ceremony was the second time that President Obama had met the hero–the first coming after one of Florent’s 33 surgeries he went through to save his leg.

This is his story:

On the day of August 8th, 2012, Army Captain Groberg of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division was leading a personnel security for seven American and Afghani leaders walking through the streets of Assabadad, Afghanistan. That’s when he spotted a suicide bomber running towards those under his charge and “instinct took over.”

“As Groberg grabbed the intruder by the vest and Mahoney piled on to drive the man into the road, Groberg knew what was about to happen. From the point of identifying the security breach to reacting took about 10 seconds.

The man landed chest-first on the ground. As he slammed onto the road, he released a dead-man’s trigger, which he had squeezed and held before walking towards the Soldiers. The vest flashed, sending thousands of lethal ball-bearings flying [source].”

Then a second suicide bomber detonated his vest at nearly the exact same time.

The twin detonations killed five of Groberg’s friends and brothers in arms that day. Groberg and another soldier who had tackled the terrorist were thrown fifteen feet back from the explosion. Groberg himself miraculously only (relative use of the word) suffered a shredded leg and serious nerve damage.

But the seasoned Ranger veteran knew that he was at his most vulnerable out in the open, with his fibia protruding from his leg, skin melting and blood everywhere. If there were any insurgents around with small arms, he posed an easy target. That’s when he started dragging himself out of the kill zone into temporary safety.

The next three years wouldn’t be much easier. Groberg has been through a total of 33 surgeries to keep his leg, and he’s determined to be able to run again.

Let’s face it: stories like Groberg’s are exciting to read to people like us because they demonstrate the bravery and courage our soldiers have when they face the enemy. But once the literal and figurative dust settles, these soldiers must deal with all the trauma that comes after experiencing an event like that. This is why it’s so important that we support all of our troops, all the time. Not just the Medal of Honor winners. Not just on Veterans Day. So Florent Groberg to Florent Groberg and all of those who have protected us and continue to protect us, thank you for your service.

Typically, when we think of barbie, we don’t envision the itty bitty curvaceous blonde bombshell coming equipped with a pair of boxing gloves and an undeniable urge to fight. The JT Barrett arrest video for drunk driving was released by TMZ today. Barrett, the QB for Ohio State University was pulled out of an upcoming drunk driving checkpoint on Halloween night. Unsurprisingly, Barrett’s attempt to avoid the checkpoint was actually what drew the police’s attention to him in the first place.

After the police administered a host of field sobriety tests, which Barrett actually passed pretty well, the officer still wasn’t convinced. The officer still insists that he smelled booze on JT’s breath, even though the student athlete denied having a drop. That’s when JT tries to pull the ace out of his sleeve, “I’m the quarterback of Ohio State … officer, there’s nothing you can do?”

The fact that JT Barrett was arrested isn’t breaking news, he actually pled guilty to the DUI earlier this week.

It’s just that the details surrounding the arrest weren’t exactly clear. Especially the fact that Cardale Jones was going to be the one to pick him up.

As far as his punishment at Ohio State University went, JT had to forego his financial aid for the Summer 2016 term and was suspended from playing for one game. Legally, his driver’s license will be suspended for 180 days.

A University of Kansas town hall meeting was interrupted last night by a grassroots student group with a list of 15 demands. Several black students took to the stage with the demands, expressing their feelings of marginalization.

The meeting, which was moderated by Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, was set up in response to protests breaking out at Yale University and University of Missouri. There were countless emotional testimonies regarding how black students are treated on campus, and that was before they took to the stage.

Once on stage, student leader Katherine Rainey stated, “Today’s only purpose is to silence and appease students.” The group – which was composed of 12 students – is called Rock Chalk Invisible Hawk, each student holding a sign that read “Black Lives Matter.”

“I just don’t understand why now would be the time (for change). It’s just what’s happening in the national news, “explained frustrated senior Cornelius Baker. The intention behind it wasn’t necessarily to help the students because there have been plenty of other opportunities to do that beforehand.”

Apparently the racial issues at KU are anything but new.

After the meeting, the university immediately stated its support via Twitter:

The demands were also unanimously supported by the Student Senate Student Rights Committee, with committee chair Madeline Dickerson stating, “Right now, we have students who are hurting and fighting for black lives every day – and it’s exhausting. They need ally-ship.”

According to USA Today,

Demands include the hiring of a new director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs by Dec. 15. The previous director quit in May because, as he told the Kansan, he couldn’t “stay around and watch” central leadership fail to do anything “concrete” to support students of color after two years of knowing black six-year graduation rate is only 46%.

They also include setting minority student recruitment goals and issuing a “long-discussed” campus racial climate survey by February 2016.

Something new, however, was the audience’s demand for accountability from individual administrators, echoing how Univ. of Missouri student Jonathan Butler, who had gone on a hunger strike, and the Concerned Student 1950 group called specifically for Wolfe’s resignation.

One student asked administrators to “put some skin in the game” by attaching their names to individual initiatives and saying they’ll step down so someone better can take over if they’re not able to make those improvements happen within three years.

If administrators don’t have a plan in motion by January 19, Rock Chalk Invisible Hawk promised to “raise hell.”

Howard University is currently on high alert after wind of a racially-motivated death threat spread through campus earlier today.

An anonymous threat shook campus earlier today from a person claiming to be a University of Missouri student. The threat was posted was posted to a web forum Wednesday night reading,  “I left MU yesterday because I couldn’t put up with it anymore. I go home to MD and what do I see? The same old sh**. Turn on the news and it’s always the n****** causing trouble everywhere. Any n****** left at Howard University after 10 tomorrow will be the first to go. And any of those cheapstake n****** who try to get out using the metro will regret that choice real fast. Sure, the po po will take me down, but I’ll go out a hero knowing I made the world better.”

The 2015 season has been a roller coaster for the Northwestern Wildcats. In games against non-ranked teams, Northwestern is 6-0 but against ranked teams, they are just 1-2. It does lead to a 7-2 record though for Northwestern as they get ready to host another non-ranked opponent on Saturday in Big Ten Conference with the Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue is 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten this season while Northwestern is 3-2 in conference action.

Northwestern got a late field goal last week to score a 23-21 win over Penn State and have won their last two games by two points apiece. Clayton Thorson has thrown for 1,177 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions in his first year starting. Dan Vitale has found the yardage lead with 316 yards receiving from the ultraback position on 27 catches and has scored three touchdowns. Justin Jackson has 917 rushing yards and one touchdown to offset the pass game. It is a limited Wildcats offense that depends on their defense to keep them in games.

Purdue got smoked by Illinois 48-14 last week and are out of bowl contention. David Blough has 1,278 passing yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions from the quarterback position. DeAngelo Yancey is leading the Boilermakers in receiving yards with 483 to go with 28 catches and five touchdowns. Markell Jones has 634 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns. The Boilermakers are just looking to move in a positive direction going into the 2016 season.
