WATCH: High School Students Sing About KKK To ‘Jingle Bells’ In History Class

A video shows two students at a New Hampshire public high school were singing a racially charged version of “Jingle Bells” containing lyrics about the Ku Klux Klan.

According to the Washington Post, the school district is now investigating those students who sang “let’s kill all the blacks” during a history lesson.

What Happened?

A cellphone video surfaced over the weekend showing two students singing a song that contains the lyrics, “KKK, KKK, Let’s kill all the blacks,” to the tune of “Jingle Bells”  in a history class at Dover High School.

“KKK, KKK, Let’s kill all the blacks, burn a cross in their front yard and hope they don’t come back,” the students sang in the minute or so long video. Not all the lyrics in the one-minute video are audible, but they continue the racist sentiments. Other students in the class are heard laughing at points during the song.

The video has since gone viral in the community, leaving many residents aghast and wondering how it could have happened, according to Fosters Daily Democrat.

The video was recorded by classmate Chloe Harris. “I went to the teacher,” she said. “I said I’m not really comfortable with these lyrics. I don’t know why they need to sing it. I don’t know why they need to present it in such an insensitive way.”
Harris also said she recorded the incident because she wasn’t sure anyone would believe what happened.

“Thought if I don’t record this, this is going to be the only evidence that I have that this happened,” the 16-year-old told NBC10 Boston.

School District Is Investigating The Incident

In the wake of the video, the school district in Dover, New Hampshire–where children of color make up less than five percent of the student body–said they are now investigating the incident and called the song “an incident of extreme racial insensitivity.”

Superintendent William Harbron said in a letter to the school community on Monday, December 3, that the incident was part of an assignment dealing with the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. Harbron also stated that “the impact was harmful.” He also said that the students did not know they were being recorded.

“We would like to address a situation that came to our attention over the past 24 hours and let the Dover School District community know we are working with students and educators diligently at DHS to investigate and address this incident of extreme racial insensitivity,” the statement said. “We are deeply concerned that an event such as this could occur and understand the emotion and concern this event will create for our students, families and staff.”

Harbron acknowledged in an interview Monday afternoon that the instructor did not intervene during the students’ performance. He added that the school’s principal is continuing to gather information about what happened.

“What we are much more concerned about is making sure that we use this opportunity to really learn from it and make sure business is done differently, and that all students are respected and regarded–regardless of their background, their race,” Harbron told The Post. “I think that’s more of a concern for us right now.”

The teacher and the students involved haven’t been identified. However, the teacher has been suspended with pay while the entire incident is being investigated by the school district, according to NBC10 Boston.

It is still unclear if the two students who sang the song will be disciplined.

Harvard Sued By Greek Life Organizations Over New Over Single-Gender Rule

Earlier this year, we reported on Harvard University’s announcement of penalties on members of unrecognized single-gender organizations.

The prestigious Ivy League university has been systematically eliminating single-sex organizations such as fraternities and sororities by implementing penalties and sanctions against those who participate in them.

The Crimson — Harvard’s student newspaper — reported that starting with the class of 2021, the school’s policy will ban undergraduate members of these groups from certain leadership positions on campus, athletic captaincies, and postgraduate fellowships.

Now, following the school’s decision to discourages students from joining single-gender social clubs, several national fraternities and sororities have sued Harvard University in response.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Boston’s federal court by two fraternities and two sororities, argue that the school’s policy discriminates against students based on their sex and spreads negative stereotypes about students who join all-male or all-female organizations, according to NBC News.

via NBC News:

Harvard officials crafted the rule to curb secretive all-male groups known as “final clubs,” whose members include some former U.S. presidents but have faced mounting criticism from the university. A 2016 report by the school accused the clubs of having “deeply misogynistic attitudes” and tied them to problems with sexual assaults.

But the rule also applies to a variety of other groups, including fraternities, sororities and even single-gender musical groups. Since the rule took effect last year, at least three sororities have cut ties with their national organizations and reopened as co-ed groups.

Harvard does not officially recognize any fraternities or sororities, but several have been available to Harvard students in the past, often with houses located near campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The sororities who are suing Harvard University have been identified as Kappa Alpha Theta and Kappa Kappa Gamma, and the two fraternities in the federal suit have been identified as Sigma Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

NHL Announces Expansion Team In Seattle, Will Begin Play In 2021

NHL

The National Hockey League has granted an expansion franchise to Seattle, according to an announcement made on Tuesday, December 4. The League’s 32nd franchise, which will begin play in 2021-22, was approved in a unanimous vote by the NHL’s Board of Governors.

Ground will be broken on the team’s arena — the Seattle Center Arena — on Wednesday, December 5. According to the team’s ownership group, the team’s arena will be the only in the world that is located in a park.

In a press release, the NHL announced that the Seattle franchise will pay a $650-million expansion fee and that fee will be distributed in equal shares to 30 of the NHL’s presently existing clubs, except for Las Vegas, which entered the League with an expansion fee of $500 million in 2017-18.

Additionally, it was announced that the Seattle franchise will begin play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in 2021-22, which will result in the Arizona Coyotes moving to the Western Conference’s Central Division.

NHL Board of Governors Press Conference https://t.co/jnh9CmiUfw

— NHL (@NHL) December 4, 2018

“Today is an exciting and historic day for our League as we expand to one of North America’s most innovative, beautiful and fastest-growing cities. We are delighted to add David Bonderman, Tod Leiweke and the entire NHL Seattle group to the National Hockey League family. And we are thrilled that Seattle, a city with a proud hockey history that includes being the home for the first American team ever to win the Stanley Cup, is finally joining the NHL,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.

As for the name, logo, and mascot, none of those things have been decided at this time. One of Seattle’s owners said the franchise will “listen to their fans” when it comes to naming the team.

In the Board of Governors press conference, it was stated that Seattle is the fastest growing market in NHL. Additionally, Hollywood producer and director Jerry Bruckheimer is a part of the ownership group.

At this time, the NHL said that other details regarding the expansion franchise — such as a timeline for the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, percentages for the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery and the 2021-22 schedule matrix — will be announced at a later date.

According to the Omaha Police Department, 14-year-old Trevor Canaday died on the evening of Saturday, December 1, after Eggerling’s vehicle ran a red light and plowed into the car that Canaday was riding in.

Canaday, who was a freshman at Millard South High, was ejected from the car and suffered fatal injuries to his head, while his father that was driving the vehicle — 59-year-old Clifford Canaday — suffered serious head injuries and was transported to Nebraska Medicine to undergo emergency surgery.

Police say that following the crash, Eggerling left his vehicle at the scene and ran away before he was later found by police.

The 36-year-old Eggerling was booked into Douglas County Corrections and was charged with two counts of DUI causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.

“Yesterday my 14-year-old cousin was killed by a drunk driver named Jeffrey Eggerling. My Uncle is in the hospital awaiting more surgeries. PLEASE keep your prayers with my family during this horrific time.

Jeffery Eggerling had two prior DUI’s and tried to RUN from the scene of the crime after hitting my Uncle’s car SO fast that my 14 yr old cousin, who was wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Jeffery Eggerling is a murderer. May he rot in hell.

I’d like to ask those who have negative thoughts or opinions about the tragedy that happened to my family, to keep them to themselves. You don’t know all the details. And how dare you attack when a beautiful life has been lost,” Hyland wrote on Twitter following her cousin’s unfortunate death.

Here’s How To Cope When Your College Sports Teams Suck

Do you go to college? Does your college sports team suck? Be honest, did you imagine going to football, basketball, or baseball games cheering on your team to win their division or tournament. But, now, you are praying that your team doesn’t lose again. You get used to your team losing and end up not showing up to their games. You get bored on Saturday’s and sometimes beg your neighboring college friends to invite you to their tailgates. First, take a breath, yes your team sucks but there are ways to cope. These coping tips may not make your team better, but it will help you feel less bored and give you something to do instead of sitting in your dorm room, alone, on a Saturday night. Here are some ways to cope when your college sports teams suck.

Support The Underdog

Dusty Baker said his favorite cartoon hero is Underdog pic.twitter.com/Txvw5wZ2h5

— David Vassegh (@THEREAL_DV) October 7, 2016

This is a long shot, but it’s fun to think of your team as an underdog. Any team is capable of winning. And one win against a top-ranked team will make that win much sweeter than you can imagine. Then going from winning that one game can go into winning a few more. But, root for your team to be that underdog who beats the top dog. Seeing the other team’s humiliation is fun to celebrate.

Make A Game Out Of It

7 Drinking Games You Can Play Without Cards https://t.co/3Q6XkrXl3t pic.twitter.com/sMfoGkho87

— Grazia UK (@GraziaUK) October 31, 2018

Who wants to drink? If your team really sucks, and you know that they are going to get trounced, why not make a drinking game out of it? Make rules, like if the other team scores you take a shot. Or, if your team loses the ball, you take a shot. You can make it funny if your coach throws his clipboard take two shots. Or, if the ref gets hit by the ball or player finish your drink. You may get plastered and blackout later in the night, but, at least you had fun.

Drink

Top way to make friends while travelling? It's got to be a good old fashioned #drinking game!

BUT don't just leave it at ring of fire… these hilarious European drinking games will guarantee your new mates never forget you 😂 😂 😂 https://t.co/iy0EKtMLzq pic.twitter.com/1KGDavAiMr

— Euroventure Travel (@euroventure) November 4, 2018

Bringing back drinking again. Not drinking games, but plane drinking. Anything can be fun if you add alcohol. Literally, anything! Why do you think parents drink during kid’s birthday parties? Alcohol numbs the pain of your team losing. You can drink alone or have some fun and drink with friends. But, whatever you do, if your team does suck, don’t show up to the game sober.

Go All Out

— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) February 5, 2018

Your team may suck, but it’s still your team. Be supportive and go all out as being a fan. Paint your face, get dressed up, scream your lungs out. Every team needs support, and it can’t just come from their parents who have to cheer for them no matter what. Believe in your team with finishing their season with at least one win.

Find A New Team

My Point GAWD. 🗣🗣🗣 pic.twitter.com/RgTmQHN0jF

— Adam (Depressed Niners Fan) #NICKBOSASZN (@AdamBayBoy) October 25, 2018

This is your last resort. We do not suggest this, but it’s an option. You may have some nearby colleges who are much better than your college. You meet people there, find friends, and learn to like their team much more than yours. Not just because their colors match more than yours, but because they know how to play sports and know how to win. So, you ditch your college and pretend to be a student at another, just for Saturday’s.

Multiple cases of mumps have been confirmed at Clemson University on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Usually, people get vaccinated for mumps at a young age, but it is possible that some students or staff might have not been vaccinated at birth, and contracted the disease.

What Is Happening?

South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is warning Clemson University students and visitors that there have been many confirmed cases of mumps reported on campus.

According to Independent Mail, they cited that the department is warning that anyone who visited the university or resides on campus between November 21 and November 29 may have been exposed.

— Amy Wood 7 News (@TVAmy) December 4, 2018

DHEC officials are also saying that the chance of infection for people who have gotten the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine is lower, but it is imperative to check yourself and make sure that you don’t experience any of the symptoms. Even for those who are fully vaccinated when they were young, there is a slim chance that one might feel the symptoms and contract it.

Offer Docs cites that in the letter DHEC sent to warn Clemson, it says,

“Mumps is a contagious, viral infection that may result in in parotitis, or swelling in one or both parotid salivary glands in the cheek and jaw area below the ear. Mumps is spread through saliva or mucus from the mouth, nose or throat. An infected person can spread the virus by coughing, sneezing, talking, kissing; sharing items such as drinks, cigarettes or eating utensils; or touching or surfaces with unwashed hands that are then touched by others.”

In other words, in order to prevent the spread of the virus, washing your hands frequently is encouraged and sharing food and beverage is highly not recommended. Getting the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine would be a good start in ensuring that you have a higher chance of resisting the disease, which can be 88 percent effective in preventing mumps with two doses.

Before enrolling into the University, Clemson makes sure that its students present documentation of the MMR vaccination before letting them attend class, but some students have gotten waivers for religious reasons. Staff and faculty members are also not required to be immunized.

Vice President for Strategic Communications, Joe Galbraith said to WLTX 19, “The Redfern Health Center has begun directly contacting students for whom there is no immunization record on file.”

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, South Carolina had less than 20 cases of mumps in 2018 as of November 3.

What Are Mumps?

Mumps is a viral infection that attacks your saliva producing glands near your ears. When you are infected, your cheeks will look puffy, which are signs of your saliva glands swelling up. Symptoms typically begin 14-18 days after exposure to the virus.

Symptoms of Mumps are:

  • Pain in the swollen salivary glands on one or both sides of your face
  • Pain while chewing or swallowing
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Loss of appetite

To see more symptoms, check out Mayo Clinic for full details.

Mumps is usually not fatal except for extreme cases, but it can potentially cause permanent damage in kids as it could lead to neurological issues, deafness and many more. It is contagious through coughing and sneezing, so children the age of 5-14 are extremely susceptible to it.

It is crucial that you immediately go seek professional help if you feel ill with these symptoms because simply antibiotics will not help.

A white woman "Target Teresa" harasses a group of black customers who were simply minding their own business

Twitter

Let’s introduce the world to “Target Teresa.” In today’s edition of White People Interrupting Black People For Simply Living, we bring this video from a Target store in Tennessee which shows one customer coming up and interrupting a group of black women who were having a conversation. Target Teresa then proceeds to yell at the women while telling them what they apparently said.

“You were talking about sex in public. Are you having sex in public because that’s what you screamed out loud,” Target Teresa said. “I didn’t realize talking about sex in public was normal. I know you’re trained on lying. You’re perfect for the court system because you’re all trained liars.”

Plot twist: The group of women were simply talking about a role in the 1990s comedy “Boomerang” played by jazz legend Eartha Kitt.

Ms. NASA still wasn’t having it.

“She told us, ‘You shouldn’t be talking about sex,’” one of the women who was harassed told Yahoo Lifestyle. “We were confused — then, she came around the corner with her shopping cart and started ranting, ‘You don’t belong here’ and calling our conversation inappropriate.”

The video first appeared on Facebook before being deleted.

You can check out the video below.

A Conservative Group Sued UC Berkley For Discrimination & Won

The University of California, Berkeley has reached a settlement with conservative groups who sued the university over allegations that the school discriminates against conservative speakers in April 2017.

The Berkeley College Republicans and Young America’s Foundation filed suit in 2017 after the university refused to honor an agreed-upon speaking date for the anti-immigration writer Ann Coulter, and imposed new “curfew and venue restrictions” on their speakers, according to One America News Network.

Under the November 30, 2018 settlement, UC Berkeley will also pay the plaintiffs $70,000 in attorney’s fees.

What Happened?

UC Berkeley has reached a settlement with conservative groups who sued the university over allegations that the school discriminates against conservative speakers.

The newly reached settlement is ordering UC Berkeley to repay a $70,000 payment to Young America’s Foundation, one of the groups who filed the lawsuit.

The agreement is being hailed as a “landmark victory for free expression” by the foundation and by Berkeley College Republicans, which is the group at the center of the suit.

“This landmark victory for free expression means UC Berkeley can no longer wantonly treat conservative students as second-class members of its community while ignoring the guaranteed protections of the First Amendment,” Young America’s Foundation said in a statement.

The suit was brought against Berkeley over policies the organization’s said forced multiple cancellations of conservative guest speaking events. The plaintiffs initially claimed right-wing events were subjected to “secretly” measured by school administrators.

Landmark #freespeech settlement for clients @yaf and @BerkeleyCRs filed with the NDCA today, and may be found at link. Under this new policy, UC Berkeley abolishes its prior speech policy and replaces it with one that treats all speakers equally: https://t.co/I0ONOd3wBZ

— Harmeet K. Dhillon (@pnjaban) December 3, 2018

Campus conservatives planned high-profile events, including lectures from political commentators Ann Coulter and Ben Shapiro in April of 2017, which were both shut down. Other conservative speakers, including Milo Yiannopoulos, have also had their events canceled following campus protests, according to The Hill.

UC Berkeley described the proposed changes in a statement as “non-substantive,” and said the plaintiffs’ claims that university officials discriminated against conservative speakers was completely unsubstantiated.

“Given that this outcome is all but indistinguishable from what a courtroom victory would have looked like, we see this as the least expensive path to successful resolution of this lawsuit,” a spokesman for the university Dan Mogulof said.

“While we regret the time, effort and resources that have been expended successfully defending the constitutionality of UC Berkeley’s event policy, this settlement means the campus will not need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in unrecoverable defense costs to prove that UC Berkeley has never discriminated on the basis of viewpoint,” Mogulof added.

Change Of Speaker Policies

As part of the settlement, the university is considering eliminating “complexity” as a criterion for determining whether a campus event is major. Major events include those that raise safety or security concerns.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions also backed the student’s legal battle and condemned school censorship. He later highlighted the importance of having an open conversation even if they lead to discomfort between peers.

“It’s time to stand up to the bullies on campus, and the bullies in our culture,” Sessions said. “There are radicals out there that have openly and systematically justified actions that would deny Americans their right to speak out against their favorite ideological agenda–we must put an end to such nonsense.”

Per the settlement, the university will not have to admit to disproportionately disparaging the requests of certain student groups.

The university has also committed to publishing a fee schedule for security costs that student organizations hosting speakers must bear, in order to improve transparency around the costs associated with hosting guests on campus.

Scotland County Sheriff’s Office

Brianna Nicole Stanley, 23, was arrested on Friday, November 30, for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old student at Carver Middle School in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

According to Lt. Jessica Sadonikov, the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office’s criminal investigative division executed a search warrant of Sadonikov after the Board of Education of Scotland County received a report on Thursday, November 29, that the middle school teacher was in an inappropriate relationship with a young student.

Following her arrest, Stanley was charged with three counts of felony statutory offense, five counts of felony indecent liberties by a teacher with a student, five counts of sexual activity by a teacher with a student and one count of third-degree felony child exploitation related to child pornography.

Stanley, who had her bond was set at $2.5 million, reportedly appeared in court on Monday, December 3.

“The school system is devastated by the allegations of this serious breach of trust by an employee,” schools spokesperson Meredith Bounds said in a statement, according to the Laurinburg Exchange. “Our focus now is on supporting our students and supporting law enforcement in their investigation.”

As for why there has been such a significant increase in instances of teachers having sexual relationships with students, researchers believe that technology is to blame.

According to a report from the Texas Education Association, smartphones make easy for teachers to privately text and talk with students and also make it possible for teachers and students to share explicit images.

SESAME (Stop Educator Sexual Abuse Misconduct & Exploitation) President Terri Miller echoed that sentiment, stating “before cell phones, we knew who our kids were talking to” but today, “kids have their own phones, they’re taking them to bed, and parents need to watch more.”

Stanley has been one of many teachers to be charged for inappropriate conduct. Over the course of just a few months, teachers across the United States have been charged, tried, and convicted of various abuse and sex crimes.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

Most recently, teachers such as 29-year-old Haylie Smart, 25-year-old Alaina Ferguson, 26-year-old Amy Nowaczyk, and 32-year-old Laura Bucy were arrested and charged for similar crimes.

Kissie Ram has been identified as the 18-year-old Drake University freshman student who was charged with making false reports to law enforcement after alleged racist notes were found on campus last month.

According to the Des Moines police department, Ram was charged with a misdemeanor summons on Monday, December 3. However, she was not immediately booked into jail. Police say that if Ram is found guilty, she could face a fine and prison for up to a year.

Over the course of the last few months, four racists notes were found on campus and have now been connected to Ram. One note, which was received by freshman Keith Walker in November, is reportedly not connected to the other four notes.

Drake University spokesman Jarad Bernstein said that Ram will be subject to the university’s disciplinary process outlined in the Code of Student Conduct. Additionally, Ram could potentially be expelled.

via Des Moines Register:

The charge relates to a report filed for a racist note found on campus Nov. 28, police said. In all, five racist notes were found on campus in November.

No charges will be filed in connection with the other notes, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek, Des Moines police spokesman. Drake officials said last week they were confident that four of the notes, now considered hoaxes, can be tied to the same student, identified Monday as Ram.

The first note was received in early November by freshman Keith Walker, who wrote about his experience in a social media post, and is not connected to the other four notes. Walker has not cooperated with the police investigation, Parizek said.

Drake officials last week said a student later identified as Ram admitted to writing one of the five notes found on campus. She also reported receiving at least one of the notes, officials said.

According to her social media profiles, Ram is a finance major at Drake University. At this time, Ram remains enrolled at the school, which is located in Des Moines, Iowa.

In a statement, Drake University president Marty Martin said that “as painful as these recent events have been, they have sparked important discussions and reflection and have brought us closer together as one Drake community.”

Tara Taylor Richard, a 38-year-old substitute teacher in St. Landry Parish, was arrested and charged for allegedly having sexual relations with teenage two high school students.

According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, Richard — a 38-year-old from Arnaudville, Louisiana — reportedly admitted to police on Monday, December 3, that she had sexual relations with two different teenage male students during the summer break. Richard said the teens were 15-years-old and 16-years-old, respectively. It is not clear which school in the district that the students attended.

Following her arrest, Richard was charged with four counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of oral sexual battery.

In a statement, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Officer Bobby Guidroz said that “it’s a sad day when we must arrest someone that does harm to our kids, especially those we have entrusted in educating and molding our youth.”

“Parents should always be diligent with regards to the safety of their children,” Sheriff Guidroz said.

As for why there has been such a significant increase in instances of teachers having sexual relationships with students, researchers believe that technology is to blame.

University Of Michigan Fraternity Suspended For ’40-Yard Dash On Backs Of Pledges’

In November, we reported on the removal of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at the University of Michigan for alleged hazing. Now, an investigation into those allegations has found that active members of the fraternity did a “40-yard dash” run on the backs of the pledges.

According to MLive, the specific details of Alpha Sigma Phi’s hazing methods were uncovered by police after an anonymous tipster turned over text messages and emails that implicated the fraternity.

The messages reportedly included expressions of surprise and regret after a student suffered an apparent injury that may have been serious during the hazing.

At this time, it is not clear which student was injured and what had happened to him.

MLive was able to view the texts and emails through a Freedom of Information Act request.

via MLive:

They [the messages] ranged from one member describing it as a “freak accident,” to another asking “How is seriously injuring these kids a good idea for bringing them together(?)” police records show.

While the incident resulted in no criminal charges, Alpha Sigma Phi was removed from the university and UM’s Interfraternity Council for a minimum of five calendar years on Nov. 7, after an investigation discovered members took part in forced alcohol consumption and violent physical hazing. One fraternity member described the apparent injury as being “within the boundaries of hell week.”

“We had people run our backs during our hell week,” the member said in a group message. “That doesn’t mean it’s a tradition or a (good) idea, but it means (it’s) become normalized by us.”

However, while the fraternity was removed from campus, the Ann Arbor police department was forced to drop the case because the alleged victim was uncooperative and his parents claimed that their son was not injured.

The removal of Alpha Sigma Phi at the University of Michigan is the latest major Greek life suspension, expulsion, disaffiliation, or overhaul in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities for various reasons.

Fraternities have been suspended or expelled across the nation as Greek life organizations and universities attempt to grapple with the pitfalls of hazing, alcohol and drug abuse, and sexual assault.

Schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended or expelled fraternities for various reasons.
