Mike Stark has been identified as the American Bridge 21st Century operative who was arrested on charges of battery after he allegedly grabbed the arm of 31-year-old Kristin Davison and refused to let go.

Davison is the campaign manager for Nevada GOP gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt.

What Happened?

The 50-year-old Stark was arrested by Las Vegas city marshals on Tuesday, October 17, and charged with battery. He was released from custody in Las Vegas jail after posting bail.

In a statement released on Wednesday, October 8, American Bridge 21st — a liberal group — announced that Stark had been fired, stating that he had been relieved of his duties “effective immediately.”

The American Bridge 21st Century was founded by David Brock and is currently funded by liberal billionaire donor George Soros.

Speaking to Fox News, Davison said that while she’s aware politics are “a little bit aggressive these days”, Stark’s actions were “insane”:

“Politics is a little bit aggressive these days, but this is just insane. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Davison said.

“This man was physically almost body-checking me,” she said. “I was getting nervous for my safety, so we left, and went into an open room.” However, she said Stark tried to follow her, Laxalt and other staffers into the second room.

“He grabbed my right arm, my leg was lodged between the door and the wall. He twisted my arm, and contorted it behind my back,” she explained. “I was scared. Every time I tried pulling away, he would grab tighter, and pull me closer into him.”

Davison said Stark pulled her head into his chest, bruising her neck, and held her there for several minutes.

Mike Stark is a 50-year-old “operative” for the liberal group  American Bridge 21st Century who was arrested for battery after he allegedly grabbed 31-year-old Kristin Davison and refused to let go.

The American Bridge 21st Century released the following brief statement about the incident:

“Last night one of our employees was involved in an incident with a member of Adam Laxalt’s campaign in Nevada. In response to that incident, we have decided to relieve this employee of his duties with American Bridge effective immediately.”

Marvel’s Daredevil  — their original and most successful Netflix series to date (RIP, Iron Fist and The Defenders) — returns tonight for its third thrilling season.  The first season of Daredevil originally aired on April 10, 2015.

In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, the third season of Daredevil stars Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel and Jay Ali.

The third season, which began filming on November 13, 2017, in New York City, will consist of 13 episodes and reportedly adapt elements from Daredevil’s seminal “Born Again” storyline.

Curtis LeMair, a freshman from Northern State University, was found dead in his dorm.

What Happened?

Curtis LeMair is a three-time Minnesota state medalist in wrestling, who was found dead in his dorm on October 17th, 2018. Authorities said that they do not suspect any foul play.

His mother, Mona LeMair spoke to him on Tuesday night.

She said, “He was healthy and fine. He was looking forward to hunting this weekend with his friends and most of all his best friend & dad, Chad.”

His father, Chad LeMair, is a local business owner, former City Council member and deputy mayor.

On October 17, his roommate went over to wake Curtis up early for wrestling practice, but after several tries, he was still non-responsive. When police came, it was confirmed by them that Curtis has died during his sleep.

In a Facebook post, his parents wrote “our hearts are shattered. Life will never be the same.”

Northern State University also issued a message to his death.

“The Northern State University community extends its condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Curtis LeMair. Curtis was found deceased in his residence hall early Wednesday morning. Northern is working alongside the Aberdeen Police Department as they investigate a cause of death. Police have informed NSU there doesn’t appear to be any foul play.”
President Downs asks that the public keep the family, friends and teammates of the student in their thoughts and prayers.”
Even Prior Lake’s Mayor, Kirt Briggs commented on LeMair’s death, saying he was well revered as an outstanding athlete and his departure has rocked the town.

“There’s a pall over the community,” Briggs said to Star Tribune.

During his wrestling career in Prior Lake High School, LeMair came in third at the Class 3A Minnesota tournament, finishing the season with a 39-4 record. LeMair also came in third place at the state tournament as a sophomore and fifth place as a junior.

In three seasons, he had a record of 106-20.

The University of Colorado Boulder’s School of Education has decided on October 18, 2018, to offer guaranteed admissions to any high school student who wants to be teachers or community leaders.

In a new agreement between two high school programs and the University, this program is secured in order to help combat the shortage of teachers in rural areas and especially among teachers of colors according to recent reports from Colorado Department of Higher Education.

But in order to qualify for this guaranteed admission, there are requirements that need to be fulfilled. The student must be enrolled in either the Teacher Cadet or Pathways2Teaching programs all while holding academic excellence.

To qualify, students must also meet both the Colorado Commission on Higher Education’s admissions requirements and the university’s minimum academic preparation standard curriculum, maintaining a B- or higher in Teacher Cadet or Pathways2Teaching courses and have a weighted high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Also, students will have to earn an ACT composite score of 22 or higher or SAT score of 1110 or higher.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete the CU Boulder application process by Jan. 15

But these programs are not just limited to one high school. This program was created in consideration to the many districts in Colorado.

Laquanda Lenea Mosle has been identified as the woman who uploaded a video herself dunking her five-month-old baby’s head underwater. The video shows the young child’s head being put head-first upside down into water.

In the video — which was posted to the Facebook page of Kevin Banks, the infant’s father — Mosle can be heard yelling “This is what you f***ing want”.

After the video was posted, the Griffin Police Department was contacted on Tuesday, October 17 by Banks, who lives out of state.

Mosle was arrested by the Griffin Police Department on Wednesday, October 18 and charged with felony aggravated assault with attempt to murder, child cruelty, and terroristic threats. She is currently being held in Spalding County Jail.

Griffin Police Lt. Michael Natale said investigators are currently in the process of securing additional warrants against the mother.

“It’s tough to watch. It’s tough to watch. I think we all can agree on that,” said Capt. Chris Wilson, Griffin Police Department.

He added officers made the arrest after conducting a welfare check at the mother’s apartment on the 800 block of North Eighth Street.

According to the police, Mosley told officers she shot the video Tuesday and sent it to the child’s father as a Facebook message. The father then posted it on social media before contacting the police.

“If it wouldn’t have been posted we wouldn’t have known,” Capt. Wilson said in a press conference. “That’s the kind of the double-edged sword.”

The infant was checked out by medical staff at the Spalding Regional Hospital. She has since been released. They have not said whether the infant received any injuries.

Based on Facebook messages sent by Mosle, the threat to the infant’s life seems to be over child support payments.

Starting next year, high school students in Washington D.C will be offered a new option that allows students to get their associate degrees and their high school diploma at the same time.

In a partnership with Bard College in New York, the city is planning to open a new school called the Bard Early College High School to enact this plan.

This school will be a tuition-free, four-year early college high school.

Mayor Muriel Bowse and interim school chancellor Amanda Alexander hopes a liberal arts college curriculum can invigorate high school students who are living in neighborhoods that are plagued with high dropout rates. This plan also has goals in meeting the demands of many families who advocate for more rigorous education options.

“With Bard High School Early College, we are answering the community’s call for more early college options and building new pathways to college for our young people,” Mayor Muriel E. Bowser said in a news release announcing the partnership Wednesday.

This new school will open with around 150 students. Instead of conventional ways of admission that require test scores or grades, this will be based on an essay and an interview.

Bard Early Colleges associate vice president Clara Haskell Botstein told The Washington Post that the school is looking for students who are “not necessarily perfect on paper, but students who demonstrate a spark of intellectual curiosity. We seek out and identify talent in nontraditional ways.”

How Will The School Operate?

VP Botstein said that the school sought teachers who hold doctorate degrees and college teaching experiences. When hired, they will be considered as associate professors on the District’s payroll.

The school will offer many courses such as humanities, science, and math. Students will also be required to write more papers and will be assigned reading at home to be prepared for discussions in classes. Jeremiah Kouka, a senior at Bard High School Early College in Baltimore, said one difficulty he faces is keeping up with the amount of reading given, but the school has helped him keep pace.

“Our homework consists of essays and reading different texts. It’s a lot of work, but it’s enjoyable,” he said. “When everyone collectively does their part, the discussions are very beautiful.”

Kouka has goals of becoming a nurse in the future.

Graduates of the school will also have the opportunity to earn 60 college credits that are transferable to any four-year colleges.
“We are confident that our model, in which the first two years of college are integrated into the four-year high school curriculum, will succeed in this forward-looking school system,” Bard College president Leon Botstein said.

The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at Louisiana State University has been placed on interim suspension.

While LSU officials did not provide specifics as to what caused the suspension, Ernie Ballard, a spokesman for LSU, confirmed that “the allegations against Pi Kappa Phi are very serious.”

At this time, the Pi Kappa Phi chapter remains under investigation for alleged violations of the LSU Code of Student Conduct.

According to The Advocate, the suspensions of Pi Kappa Phi marks the second time this semester that LSU has placed a fraternity under investigation for possible violations.

Johnathan Sanders, the Associate Dean of Students and Director of SAA, sent the following letter to the fraternity, ordering them to cease all chapter events:

The university would not provide specifics as to what prompted the suspension. Ernie Ballard, a spokesman for LSU, did confirm that “the allegations against Pi Kappa Phi are very serious.”

“We do not take violations of our Student Code of Conduct lightly,” Ballard said. “We cannot go into specific details at this time, but the university will fully investigate the claims. If they are substantiated, then appropriate action will be taken.”

Asked if the Pi Kappa Phi allegations involved hazing, Victor Tran, interim assistant executive director of communication for the Pi Kappa Phi national fraternity, said that “Pi Kappa Phi takes all allegations of hazing seriously.”

He added, “We are working with the University and have instructed our students to cooperate openly and honestly. We are cooperating fully with the university and expect our students to do the same.”

A year ago, in October 2017, Pi Kappa Phi was also placed on interim suspension for “a social event that was not in compliance with the Greek Life Status Update dated Oct. 4, 2017.”

The suspension of Pi Kappa Ph at Lousiana State University is the latest major fraternity or sorority lawsuit, investigation, suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Wake Forest University, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State University, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State, West Virginia University, and Penn State University have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

The city claims that the college is lying about programs to entice students to enroll and then leaves the students to be debt-ridden. The city also argues that students who graduate are poorly equipped to deal with the real world.

“Students suffer because of for-profit colleges’ voracious greed,” the Manhattan Supreme Court suit cites. “After students leave Berkeley — most with crushing debt, and many with no degree — Berkeley abandons them to their debt.”

However, the school vehemently denies the allegations. A spokeswoman for the college notes that in 2017 Berkeley College was named by the Income Mobility Report Card for being in the top 1 percent of colleges for income mobility. Also, from 2014-2018, Berkeley College was also cited to have the Best Online Bachelor’s Program by the U.S News & World Report.

Berkeley College’s New York campus enrolls around 3,500 students, with a hefty $12,950 for each semester. Compared to CUNY colleges, which is only $3,685 per semester, Berkeley Colleges charges $9,265 more per semester. With that many students, it makes them one of New York’s largest for-profit institutions, with many of their revenue deriving from government aid. Despite that, they spend less than half of what CUNY colleges spend to help students according to court papers.

The college has three New York locations in New York City: Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and White Plains. In New Jersey, they have four sites located at Newark, Paramus, Woodbridge, and Woodland Park.

Since first premiering in 1989, The Simpsons — which is currently the longest-running comedy on television — has become known for a couple things: its signature animation, its fleshed out world and characters, its parody of American culture, society, television, and the human condition, and … it’s uncanny ability to predict the future?

That’s right, despite all of the deserved praise that the animated comedy classic has garnered over the years, the series is perhaps best known for their distinct record of predicting future events in past episodes.

Over the last 29 years, The Simpsons have predicted countless aspects of American culture and history, including (but not limited to) defective voting machines, smart watches, the Sigfried and Roy tiger attack, Facetime, The Rolling Stone reunion tour, the FIFA scandal, average people going to space, NSA spying on the American public, 9/11, President Trump, Disney taking over 20th Century Fox, and many more.

And now, Canada legalizing marijuana can be added to that list, as The Simpsons seemingly predicted the eventual law change back in 2005.

In the season sixteen episode titled “Midnight Rx”, Homer, Grampa Simpson, Apu, and Ned Flanders head north of the border where Ned meets the Canadian version of himself, who offers him “reeferino”, saying that it’s “legal” here.

As we all now know, Canada officially legalized marijuana on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

On Thursday, October 18, Business Insider released a seemingly innocuous profile of a woman named Melania Edwards — a California-based HSBC executive whose life and daily routine seems like Instagram influencer’s fan-fiction.

The article, titled “A day in the life of an HSBC exec who wakes up at 5:30 a.m. to work out, always eats green, and studies at Stanford in her free time”, chronicled Edwards’ daily routine, which reportedly begins with a 5:30 a.m. meditation session and a 7:30 a.m. game of tennis before she heads off to work.

From there, her day consists of meetings, conference calls, lunch, and a train to Palo Alto, where her *second* work location is.

Needless to say, people on social media were blown away by such a lavish and extravagant daily routine and were quick to call bullsh*t:

Other highlights from the piece include Edwards’ pursuit of a certificate in “innovation and entrepreneurship” from Stanford University, how she spends her free time working with an organization in Papua New Guinea to “promote women’s economic empowerment in the country”, and how she and her boyfriend “reflect upon their key wins and challenges” at the end of the day.

However, shockingly enough, Melania does seem to be a real person, as she has her own LinkedIn account.

That said, the LinkedIn account is just as preposterous as her daily routine, as it states that she’s attended the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, MIT, and Stanford.

Serious question time, can you be too old to trick or treat? It’s a legitimate question. There is no age limit to dressing up on Halloween, but there are some people who believe there should be one for trick or treating. Trick or treating is a tradition amongst many where you dress up as your favorite characters and go around collecting free candy from friendly neighbors. What’s the harm in having teenagers and maybe some twenty-year-olds collecting candy? Some people have a problem with that saying it’s weird, rude to young kids, or even disrespectful. But, in all seriousness, are all these things true? Or can we forget about it and let people have fun on a favorite holiday?

There is a law in Canada that anyone over the age of 16 found trick or treating will be fined $200. We think that is a little extensive to fine a 17-year-old or older for wanting to get free candy. There really isn’t a cut off age for trick or treating which makes some of the rules unclear to many. Some say it should be 16 while others say 18 to 20. This is usually because some teenagers stop dressing up because it’s uncool or their friends decide not to dress up.

But for those who do still dress up and even want to go door to door collecting candy are always being judged by many parents. They say the younger kids aren’t getting the Halloween experience because the older kids are taking over. To them, it’s all about respect. Some older kids could push smaller kids around, they could be rude to adults giving out the candy, or even worse, take the whole bowl instead of taking one candy. That’s not a fun Halloween.

This is where the smart trick or treat kids come in to defend their ages of going out for candy. Parents and young adults have suggested that there can be time slots for certain ages to go out and trick or treat. The younger kids who have early bedtimes can go earlier in the day, and as the night progresses, the older kids can go out.

In reality, there really is not cut off age to trick or treating. You will be looked at weirdly if you are a 30-year-old adult, wearing a strange costume, trick or treating with no kid. But, if you are fine with that and are respectful to other, then go for it. For those of you in your 20s, you can still trick or treat. And if you are too worried about being judged as your younger sibling or cousin if you can join them on their trick or treating adventure. It’s a night where collecting candy is a must, why ruin that fun by staying indoors? Go out and have fun on Halloween.

However, please do not be the evil human being who doesn’t break a piece off but instead takes a bite of all four sticks. That is the sin that can never be made up.

Bringing in the peanut butter for the win! Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is the candy you wrestle your best friend for that sweet and salty chocolate circle. The tiny, medium and holiday shaped cup can turn people into peanut butter lunatics. It’s something of a dangerous species that we can’t get enough of. Be careful with this one, it may be too tasty to handle.

It’s Monday, Oct. 22, so the time has come once again to take a look around the college world and appreciate some of the standout students and rising social media influencers at various colleges in the country for the COED Girl of the Day which features a college student that stands out among their peers. Today, we feature Ashley Amanda Vollrath, a Virginia Tech alum.

During her time at Virginia Tech, Ashley was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority on campus. She was also able to maintain a whopping eight internships while serving as a full-time student.

The 22-year-old Blacksburg native went on to win Miss Virginia USA 2018 and competed in Miss USA.

She is currently a sports director at WVNS- 59News.
