An Alaska Airlines plane was stolen from the Sea-Tac International Airport and has since crashed. According to reports, an employee hijacked an airplane and took off from the airport. Details suggest the plane was followed by two F-15 military jets before it crashed shortly after.

Video surfaced online of what allegedly was the scene immediately following the crash.

Another video shows the airplane being followed by a fighter jet. Additional reports suggest the F-15s did not shoot down the stolen plane.

“An airline employee conducted an unauthorized takeoff without passengers at Sea-Tac; aircraft has crashed in south Puget Sound. Normal operations at Sea-Tac Airport have resumed,” the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport wrote.

“Stolen horizon airplane crashed into Ketron island. Preliminary info is that a mechanic from unknown airlines stole plane. Was doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills caused crash into Island,” the Pierce County Sheriff said.

“Two military F 15 chased plane but was not involved in crash. No passengers on plane.”

The plane was reportedly stolen by a mechanic at the airlanes who has been described as a “29-year-old suicidal man.”

Audio from the airplane shows the man was speaking to air traffic control dispatchers. The man, whose name appeared to be “Rich” alleged threw up all over the cockpit.

“This is probably jail time for life, huh? I would hope it is for a guy like me,” the man said. “You think if I can land this successfully, Alaska will give me a job as a pilot?”

“I’m not prepared to report what I’m picking up on the rumor mill right now. But stay tuned. This night is going to be a very weird one,” Jon Ostrower, editor-in-chief of The Air Current, wrote on Twitter.

“Something very weird is going on over @SeaTacAirport right now. The skies are eerily silent.”

At this time, it is being reported that no one else was injured in the crash.

An Alaska Airlines plane was stolen by a mechanic at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport late Friday night. The mechanic attempted maneuvers during flight, before ultimately crashing and taking his life. There were no passengers on board the plane outside of the man who attempted to fly the aircraft.

“An airline employee conducted an unauthorized takeoff without passengers at Sea-Tac; aircraft has crashed in south Puget Sound. Normal operations at Sea-Tac Airport have resumed,” the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport wrote.

After he stole the plane, the man made contact with AIr Traffic Control, which attempted to talk him into landing the plane.

The pilot admitted that he was beginning to get light-headed after the cabinet depressurized.

The man flying the plane made it very clear that he did not want to harm anyone else.

He then realized how quickly he was burning through fuel.

“I’m down to 2100; I started at like 30-something,” the hijacker identified as Rich, a suicidal 29-year-old male, can be heard saying.

“Rich, you said you had 2100 pounds of fuel left?” the controller responded.

Rich added, “Yeah – I don’t know what the burnage…is like on a takeoff but yeah. It’s burned quite a bit faster than I expected.”

“I’ve got a lot of people that care about me. I’m going to disappoint them to hear that I did this,” the man can be heard staying. “I would like to apologize to each and every one of them. Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose I guess. Never really knew it, until now.”

The man admitted to attempting some maneuvers in the air and had plans to land the airplane safely.

He crashed the plane moments later.

2018-2019 Summary

With the Lamar Jackson era finally coming to an end, head coach Bobby Petrino and his Louisville Cardinals could be taking some significant steps back in the upcoming season. Every position in college football is almost replaceable — except for quarterback — not to a mention a star quarterback. And when you have a star quarterback and only go 8-5, you know there are a fair amount of problems with the team. The schedule for 2018 will also not be doing Petrino any favors. An opener against Alabama is indeed not on any team’s wish list, and a blow out loss there could derail the hopes of the players for the rest of the season. After going 4-4 in the ACC a year ago, Louisville will struggle to keep up this pace and could win as few as just two games in conference. It will be a rebuilding year for the Cardinals, and five wins would be miraculous.

Travel In Packs

Travel around your campus with friends. Doesn’t matter if it’s with five or more people or just one, you are distracted and less likely to notice the person you hate. While you are distracted by your friends, you will not see them pass you and avoid you as well. One against a group of your friends is intimidating. They will avoid you like the plague. So, do your best to walk around with someone next to you. Just don’t act like a puppy around your friends, they will end up hating you too.

Fake Phone Call

Well, you are walking around alone and spot the person you wish you could strangle, fake a phone call. Take your phone out and pretend you have a phone call. If you can’t think of anyone to have a fake conversation with, always go to mom and dad. Don’t get complicated with the conversation, after all, it is a fake one. Just do the simple “hey, how are you” type of conversation. And the conversation only needs to last as long as you see the person, once you are safe around the corner, you can hang up the pretend phone call, or keep going if you like it.

Run To Class

This will draw more attention to you, but it’s the fastest way to get far away from that person. Once they come into view, book it to your next class or your dormitory. This is where you can test your speed. Do your best to not stomp while running, be light on your feet to not draw attention to yourself by other passing bystanders. Good luck and run fast.

Become A Secret Agent

This is where your childlike instincts come in to help you. Your hide and go seek skills will teach you to hide and investigate your next move. You see that person that makes your blood boil, find your closest hiding spot. Maybe a bush, tree, or large object that will hide you. Analyze your surroundings and find your best escape route. Once you have found your path, jump to your next hiding spot and complete your level. If you get caught its game over for you. You never know, you may have some fun being a secret agent.

Just Smile & Wave Boys, Smile & Wave

Indiana Hoosier football has been a joke for quite some time now. After being a consistent sub-five win team for decades, recent times have seen them change that trend to a five-to-six win team. The only problem is they have made a habit out of these five-to-six win seasons, and have failed to crack the seven-win threshold. Head coach Tom Allen was brought to the program to try to change that trajectory, but year one went about exactly as planned, 5-7. With so many powerhouses in the Big Ten; if you are not one of those schools, recruiting can be a severe challenge. Tom Allen is no exception to this, and his 2018 roster is weaker on paper than his 2017 roster. If they are going to hit seven wins, you might as well call it a miracle.

2018-19 Summary

With year one in the books, second-year head coach Tom Allen will look to build off of his 2017 campaign. He was brought to Indiana to change the culture, but he couldn’t break the streak of five-to-six win seasons. Unfortunately for Hoosier fans, 2018 will likely be the same story. Whether its Peyton Ramsey or Brandon Dawkins at quarterback, either one should be able to produce an average offense, bouncing back from the miserable 2017 offensive display. Defense, a strength from a year ago could likely end up being the Achilles heel for 2018 Hoosiers thanks to the loss of their two-star linebackers in Tegray Scales and Chris Covington, one of the most dynamic duos in the entire country last year. Without them, their rush defense could be a disaster, which could take away from their pass defense, still a strength of this team. That combination, along with a brutal Big Ten schedule should have Indiana right at that five-to-six win mark they have become so familiar with. Fans need to be patient with Tom Allen unless they want to cost him his job.

It is hard to believe it’s been five years since the death of actor Paul Walker. On Saturday, Aug. 11, a documentary chronicling his life, titled I Am Paul Walker, will premiere on the Paramount Network. The documentary was directed by Adrian Buitenhuis, who also directed I Am Heath Ledger.

Walker passed away on November 30, 2013 in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California. Walker died in a single-car crash at a speed of more than 100 mph.

A new sorority and fraternity have been introduced at Kansas State University thanks to an effort led by Latinx students on campus. It started with Yulisa Enriquez looking for a group to fit in with after wanting to be a part of greek life, but Sigma Lambda Gamma was the only Latina sorority on campus. Eventually, Enriquez enlisted the help of an older friend and brought Kappa Delta Chi to Kansas State. The junior is now president of the sorority which has introduced 13 members.

“I felt like I didn’t really have a group I fit in with really well, and I really did want to be part of greek life and especially keep on that legacy that my sister was also in,” Enriquez said, via the Mercury. “I know for a while I would think about it and talk about it, but nothing really went through. And so I started taking action.”

After seeing Enriquez’s efforts, her friend Eric Valenzuela decided to bring the Omega Delta Phi university to Kansas State, again because there was only one Hispanic fraternity on campus and he wanted a more diverse representation in greek life.

While the new sorority and fraternity are Latin-founded, they are not Latin-based so they can accept members of all backgrounds.

“It just kind of helps you see the different ways people grew up and their struggles and kind of appreciate more your own heritage and your own culture,” Enriquez said.

The sorority and fraternity have already begun making waves on campus, holding a fundraiser where they sold traditional Mexican snacks and also visiting a local high school to discuss preparation for college. The sorority went on to volunteer at a local soup kitchen with the Verde Clovers, a multicultural 4-H Club.

It’s great seeing motivated students on campus coming together to make a positive difference and to promote inclusion for all.

The Ole Miss Rebels will have a new mascot starting in 2018. On Saturday, Aug. 11, the Rebels officially unveiled their new mascot, Tony the Landshark, after new Landshark mascot comes after the university decided to retire Rebel the Bear. Rebel the Bear had been the mascot since 2010. The previous mascot was Colonel Reb, who was retired in 2003.

Now, it’s Tony time at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

“The growth of the Landshark mystique over the last seven years has been phenomenal with every athletics team embracing it, including such standouts as Marshall Henderson with basketball and Kaitlin Lee with softball, in leading their respective teams to SEC championships,” Ole Miss chancellor Jeffrey Vitter said in a statement when the change was announced.

Ole Miss also unveiled some facts about the new mascot. He wears No. 47, was inspired by Ole Miss football letterwinner Tony Fein, his favorite movie is Jaws, his favorite food is anything below him on the food chain, favorite song is “Fins” by Jimmy Buffet, and favorite colors are, obviously, red and blue.

The first opportunity for fans at Ole Miss to see Tony the Landshark gracing the sideline at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium will be when the Rebels host FCS program Southern Illinois in the second game of their 2018 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Maryland football program is just three weeks from its season-opener against the Texas Longhorns at FedExField, but questions are surrounding the Terrapins and head coach DJ Durkin. On Saturday, Aug. 11, the Terrapins placed Durkin on paid administrative leave as the university investigates the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair and as reports of a “toxic culture” surround the program.

The 40-year-old Durkin has been head coach at Maryland since 2016. He had previously served as defensive coordinator at Michigan and Florida under Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer, respectively.

While Durkin is on administrative leave, offensive coordinator Matt Canada will serve as interim head coach. Athletic director Damon Evans announced the news stating the university is “extremely concerned by the allegations of unacceptable behaviors by members of our football staff.”

Early Saturday morning, the Terrapins announced that athletic trainer Wes Robinson, director of athletic training Steve Nordwall, and Rick Court, Maryland’s assistant athletics director for sports performance had also been placed on administrative leave, according to an ESPN report. The scrutiny comes after the death of Jordan McNair, who collapsed following a workout earlier this year.

McNair, a 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive lineman, was hospitalized on May 29 following an organized team workout. McNair was airlifted to the local hospital after the session, though the university has remained quiet about the exact details that led to his hospitalization. While in the hospital, McNair received a liver transplant and was “fighting for his life.” He ultimately passed away in June from heatstroke at age 19.

Durkin now becomes the second prominent Big Ten coach to be placed on administrative leave with the season just around the corner. Earlier this month, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer was placed on leave amid reports that he knew of domestic violence allegations against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith.

If you watch ESPN, you should know who Molly McGrath is by now. McGrath, who joined ESPN in July 2016, is a sideline reporter for ESPN’s Friday night college football games and the host of College Football Live. McGrath also works on the sidelines of ESPN’s college basketball telecasts.

A former Boston College cheerleader, McGrath graduated in 2011 with the athletic director’s award for academic excellence.

McGrath joined ESPN after a stint at FOX Sports. She was also a web and in-arena reporter at the TD Garden and worked on Comcast SportsNet New England for two years after completing internships with NESN and WHDH-TV in Boston. Now, she’s one of the rising stars at the Worldwide Leader.

Richard Russell has been identified as the 29-year-old man who stole an Alaska Airlines plane from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport late Friday night, before crashing the plane and taking his life. Russell, who was married, was a Horizon Air employee and had worked at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for nearly four years.

Russell hijacked an empty 76-seat turboprop Q400 plane. Russell was doing stunts in the air with the plane and joking with Air Traffic controllers before he crashed in a wooded area near Ketron Island.

“I’ve got a lot of people that care about me. I’m going to disappoint them to hear that I did this,” Russell could be heard saying before taking his own life. “I would like to apologize to each and every one of them. Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose I guess. Never really knew it, until now.”

Russell flew the plane for nearly an hour before the crash. Police blame “doing stunts in the air and a lack of flying skills” for the fatal ending to his joyride.

Richard Russell has been identified as the “suicidal” man who stole an Alaska Airlines airplane from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport late Friday night. The 29-year-old man was an airline employee at SeaTac for nearly four years. Audio from Russell’s nearly hour-long joyride was released by Air Traffic Control, and it gives insight on the emotional rollercoaster Russell was going through before he ultimately crashed the plane and took his life near Ketron Island.

“I’ve got a lot of people that care about me. I’m going to disappoint them to hear that I did this,” Russell could be heard saying before taking his own life. “I would like to apologize to each and every one of them. Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose I guess. Never really knew it, until now.”

Russell was part of the tow team at SeaTac which moves planes on the Tarmac for Horizon Airlines, an Alaska Airlines sister airline.

“He was a quiet guy. It seemed like he was well liked by the other workers,” Rick Christenson, a retired operational supervisor for the airline told the Seattle Times. “I feel really bad for Richard and for his family. I hope they can make it through this.”

After a huge Belk Bowl victory a year ago against Texas A&M with a score of 55-52, Wake Forest has some momentum going into the 2018 season. New quarterback Kendall Hinton will try to replace the explosive offense from a season ago, thanks to a very experienced offensive line but it will certainly be a challenge. Also with only six returning starters on the defensive side, Dave Clawson’s recruiting skills will be put on full display, for better or for worse.

2018-2019 Summary

Head coach Dave Clawson has done a remarkable job at Wake Forest and has turned the tide with the Deamon Deacons reaching two consecutive bowls game. The defense is going to see an overhaul however thanks to the departure of a lot of top-end talent, but the road to three straight bowl games seems possible for Clawson and co. They have a strength most teams lack, which will be talent and experience on both the offensive and defensive line. Quarterback play will be one of the biggest question marks along with new faces in both second levels of the defense. 8-5 a year ago was a great accomplishment; a repeat does not seem as likely. Tulane could be a trap game in week one as they are a very sound and experienced group. Notre Dame also being on that out-of-conference schedule will not help either. As far as ACC play goes, 4-4 seems like a fair prediction and would have the Demon Deacons right back where they were a season ago. The opportunity will be there for six wins if they can get wins over Pittsburgh and NC State, however, those two teams seem poised to take the next step this year.

One of the funniest men to ever grace the world, Mexican comic actor and philanthropist Cantinflas, was described by some as “the world’s greatest comedian.” On Sunday, Aug. 12, Google celebrated his life with its daily Doodle on what would have been the actor’s 107th birthday.

Born Mario Moreno in Mexico City, Cantinflas appeared in dozens of movies and even captured the heart of American audiences as Passepartout in the 1956 film Around the World in 80 Days.

In the Google Doodle, a number of Cantinflas’ most iconic roles are portrayed including the 1940’s Ahi esta el detalle, Margarito/El Siete Machos in the 1951 film El Siete Machos, and Padre Sebastian in the 1964 project El padrecito.

Who Is Cantinflas?

Cantinflas was born Aug. 12, 1911, as Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno. He was born in the Mexico City slum Santa Maria la Ribera, before growing up in the tough neighborhood of Tepito. He was the son of an impoverished mail carrier and often used his rough upbringing to play witty, underdog roles.

Mario Moreno went by the stage name of Cantinflas, which has no literal meaning, to hide the fact he was involved in the entertainment industry from his family.

Cantinflas, who was known as the Charlie Chaplin of Mexico, was president of one of the Mexican actors’ guilds known as Asociación Nacional de Actores (ANDA, “National Association of Actors”) and as first secretary general of the independent filmworkers’ union Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Producción Cinematográfica (STPC).

After his acting career, Cantinflas dedicated much of his time to charity and philanthropy, helping the Roman Catholic Church and orphanages.

Cantinflas died of lung cancer in 1993 at the age of 81 after being a lifelong smoker. His funeral was a national event, with thousands of spectators gathering over the course of three days to celebrate and honor his life.

Shrek

Who can forget the lovable green ogre, pushing away the Shrek is love, Shrek is life video. That is not the film we are talking about, we are talking about the original the one with Lord Farquaad. Thanks to the success of the first movie it got one amazing sequel that is probably better than the first, followed by two films that we choose not to relate to the Shrek theme. And turns out there is a third in the works and hopefully, we like this one. But, sidestepping from the lesser Shrek movies, we always love to go back to the classic that started it all. And I’m sure we are all the fans who tried farting next to a fire and see if it becomes a flamethrower.

WALL-E

You would think a movie with not that much of a script wouldn’t do that well, but our favorite trash box robot wins our hearts. Probably, one of the cutest Disney movies all about robots teaching fat people how to walk and live on earth. It’s like a messed up Terminator. We secretly want a sequel, but why try to make it better when it’s already a great movie? Leave it the way it is. With the amazing graphics of space when WALL-E and EVE are flying around the spaceship, all you can say is “wow.” And that’s what WALL-E is, it’s a wow movie.

Spirited Away

A Japanese animated film that tells a coming of age story of a girl entering the spirit world. A crazy movie most people would have a hard time watching, it’s something of a masterpiece. Strange storyline but somehow you are hooked the whole time. With the animation, music, and the way the story moves makes the film something fans can’t get enough of. Adults who saw this movie as a kid still watch it on repeat. It’s a movie that will never get old.

Toy Story

Toys that come to life when you aren’t looks, kind of creepy right? Well, not for Pixar. One of the first full-length computer-animated films to come out, Toy Story blows all animated virgin minds and introduces a new world that is still growing. Toy Story’s success has built up so much, Pixar is in the works of a fourth movie set to release in the next couple years. Our favorite cowboy and crime-fighting spaceman take our minds into a world where toys have lived amongst us humans. Now, admit it, sometimes you would listen through your door to see if your toys were alive.

The Lion King

Who can forget The Lion King? Disney’s best and beautiful works of art. This movie gave us love, life, death, and Timon and Pumbaa. The first three seconds you see the sunrise and your ears are filled with Disney’s most famous song that we still sing today. The animation of the animals and the scenery makes us want to travel to Africa. Disney saw it’s success and is now creating a live-action remake that we can not wait to see. We have high expectations for Disney with this new film, so they better not mess up. But, who are we kidding once we hear those first three seconds of Circle of Life our hearts will be in a small puddle of happiness.

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia which turned violent as protesters and counter-protesters clashed. Counter-protester Heather Heyer was tragically killed after a member of the far-right white nationalist groups crashed his car into a crowd of people.

This year, after their permit was denied in Charlottesville, the white supremacists decided to head to the nation’s capital to hold a “Unite the Right 2” rally in Washington, D.C. right outside of the White House.

President Donald Trump sent out a message prior to the rally on Saturday morning, condemning all racism and violence.

“Riots in Charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division,” he wrote on Twitter. “We must come together as a nation. I condemn all types of racism and acts of violence. Peace to ALL Americans!”

There has been a lackluster turnout so far for the “Unite the Right 2” rally, but counter-protesters are out in larger numbers condemning racism and white supremacy. An anti-racism group, the Answer Coalition, obtained a permit in Lafayette Square to counter-protest the Unite the Right 2 rally, while Black Lives Matter and two other groups have permits near the Lincoln Memorial.

Crowds have been shouting at the white supremacists with chants of “Shame! Shame! Shame!”

Throughout the evening, there will be live streams available to document the rallies so everyone can keep an eye out on how the situation plays out. Hopefully, we will be able to avoid another violent breakout.
