Melania Trump has spoken out against her husband’s most recent attacks against a prominent African-American athlete. After President Donald Trump insulted NBA star LeBron James’ intelligence following a CNN interview with Don Lemon, the First Lady came out to show her support of LeBron and the positive work he has been doing in his community.

While Melania could have remained silent, she responded to requests from reporters for comment and issued a lengthy statement that contradicts her husband’s rhetoric.

In her statement, Melania applauds LeBron, while also throwing perceived shade at her husband’s immature online behavior.

The statement through a spokeswoman reads:

“It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today. As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative. Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron. “

We will have to see if LeBron takes the First Lady up on the offer, because he has previously said he would not be willing to meet with President Trump.

“I would never sit across from him. I’d sit across from Barack [Obama], though,” LeBron said in the CNN interview. “I don’t want to say ‘kind of.’ He’s dividing us. And what I’ve noticed over the last few months, he’s kinda used sport to divide us. And that’s something that I can’t relate to, because I know that sport was the first time I ever was around someone white.

“I got an opportunity to see them and learn about them and they got an opportunity to learn about me and we became very good friends. I was like, wow, this is all because of sports. Sports has never been something that divides people. It’s always been something that brings [people] together.”

It will be interesting to see what Donald Trump does now that LeBron has an ally in his wife.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to pay-per-view on Saturday, Aug. 4 forUFC 227 headlined by a championship doubleheader at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. In the main event, longtime rivals TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt battle it out for the UFC bantamweight championship in a rematch of their bout from November 2017. In their first meeting, Dillashaw scored a second-round knockout victory over Garbrandt to claim the title.

In the co-main event, flyweight king Demetrious Johnson puts his belt on the line against Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo as he looks to extend his UFC record for consecutive title defenses. Johnson and Cejudo previously fought in April 2016. Johnson won that fight via first-round TKO in a Performance of the Night effort.

Aldrich came out looking to push the pace, while Viana was taking a patient approach despite her history as an aggressive fighter. Aldrich was putting on the pressure and clinching Viana against the cage, while her past success had come at range. Aldrich landed a takedown near the end of the opening frame and finished the round on top. Aldrich was using the crisper strikes to start Round 2, and was finding a home for her right hand while Viana was keeping her hands low. Viana continued coming forward with her chin up and was eating punches from Aldrich, but was also finding some success of her own. In the closing minute of Round 2, Viana brilliantly and switched levels to secure a big takedown. Viana immediately showed off her skill advantage on the ground and transitioned to full mount. Viana attempted to go for an arm, but Aldrich countered and swept to the top position where she ended in half guard. Viana showed more urgency in the final frame, seemingly knowing she was likely trailing on the judges’ scorecards. Aldrich landed a couple of big shots on the feet before Viana pulled guard. Viana was attempting to inflict damage from the bottom and was looking for a sweep, but Aldrich maintained her position and was not allowing the Brazilian to control her posture before standing up out of the guard and bringing the fight back to its feet. Viana had run out of gas and was unable to mount any significant attack as we went to the final bell.

PRELIMINARY CARD

Pedro Munhoz def, Brett Johns via unanimous via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-27)

Both men were stringing together punches early on in the fight, but it was the leg kicks of Munhoz that were proving to be a real difference maker throughout the opening minutes. In Round 2, Munhoz was able to drop Johns while keeping the pressure on with a kick to the liver, before rolling for a choke.

Johns was able to escape and bounced back to his feet where he began looking for a takedown of his own. Munhoz dropped Johns again in the round with a low leg kick, but was unable to capitalize. Johns was fighting through the obvious pain and turned the fight into a slugfest, landing some heavy flurries of his own. After the kicks to the body from Munhoz took their toll, he was able to connect on a head kick that dropped Johns in the closing seconds of the round before the bell sent us into the final frame.

In the third round, the high pace continued as Munhoz’s relentless attack showed no signs of slowing down. Munhoz landed another slapping kick to the body that dropped Johns but he once again failed to finish the fight with an attempted guillotine choke. Munoz was able to retain top position, however, Johns eventually escaped and gave the fight on final last-ditch effort on the feet but it was too little, too late as we went to the judges’ scorecards.

Ricky Simon def. Montel Jackson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Simon took control in the clinch immediately out of the gate. Simon was looking for multiple takedowns from the clinch, but Jackson was able to keep his balance and keep the fight on its feet. Simon was the more aggressive and active fighter and was able to elevate Jackson for a big takedown midway through the round. Jackson bounced back to his feet, but continued to be smothered against the fence. Jackson was finding more success in the second frame, landing takedowns of his own, but it was the constant pressure from Simon that was really dictating the fight. With under a minute left in Round 2, Simon landed a big takedown and began working to take Jackson’s back but he ran out of time. In the final frame, Jackson turned up pace and was looking for a finish, but found himself in trouble after being slammed by Simon. Simon immediately transitioned to mount.

Jackson managed to get back to his feet but was slammed right back to the mat as Simon continued his furious pace. Jackson had no answer for Simon’s constant pressure as the fight went to the judges.

Ricardo Ramos def. Kyung Ho Kang via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

In an evenly matched fight, Ramos and Kang went back-and-forth for three rounds en route to a judges decision. When it was time to read the scorecards, it was Ramos who was able to outpoint Kang to earn a narrow split-decision victory.

Sheymon Moraes def. Matt Sayles via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Moraes was the sharper striker in the opening round, mixing in his kicks, punches, and knees. Moraes was doing work upstairs and to the body, while Sayles was looking to close the range and work from the clinch. Moraes came out aggressive again in Round 2, but the action was temporarily halted after an eye poke from the Brazilian. Sayles returned the favor later in the round with an accidental eye poke of his own. Moraes continued to push forward with an open hand and once again found himself committing an eye poke, which received a final warning from the referee. In the final round, it was Sayles who was pushing the pace and coming forward. Sayles was getting the best of Moraes, who was beginning to fade, as the fight went to the judges.

Alex Perez def. Jose Torres via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 3:36

Perez wasted no time coming out and looking to make a statement. Perez was landing clean and heavy punches right out of the gate and was relentless with his attack. Just minutes into the fight, Perez had Torres on wobbly legs and began unloading on his opponent with a series of violent and accurate punches that sent Torres crumbling to the ground. Perez landed 104 total strikes on 61 percent accuracy in the short-lived fight.

Weili Zhang def. Danielle Taylor via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Weili Zhang was making her UFC debut on a 16-fight winning streak and quickly showed why she is one of the best MMA prospects to come out of China. However, Taylor weathered the early storm and landed a huge shot at the end of the opening round. Zhang was again pushing the pace and looking for a finish in Round 2 but ate another heavy shot at the end of the round to send her wobbling into the final frame. Zhang continued to keep the pressure on her opponent in the final round, controlling the Octagon and coming away with a decision win in her promotional debut.

Marlon Vera def. Wuliji Buren via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 4:53

After Buren was controlling the opening minutes of the fight, Vera was able to keep his composure. Midway through Round 2, Vera secured a big takedown and then turned up the pressure which led to a heavy left hand to Buren’s body that crippled his opponent. Vera jumped on top of an injured Buren for the fight-ending flurry.

Rachel Swindler, a 29-year-old Las Vegas entertainer was one of the contestants on season 20 of the CBS reality show Big Brother, which premiered on June 27, 2018. As part of the “Level 6” alliance with fellow castmates Tyler, Brett, Winston, Kaycee, and Angela, it looked like she would be in good position for a deep run in the game.

Unfortunately, Rachel was put on the block in Week 5 against her alliance member Brett. Once she was on the block, Rachel began to make waves in the house for all of the wrong reasons and was ultimately evicted on Day 44 by a 5-4 vote.

Now, she is preparing for life outside of the Big Brother house after being blindsided by her alliance and giving one of the most emotional post-eviction interviews of the season.

Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, was the target of an assassination attempt on Saturday, Aug. 4. While President Maduro was speaking during a military parade, two explosions set off panic in the crowd. The entire incident was caught on camera as Maduro was addressing those in attendance. The speech was taking place in the capital of Caracas during a military parade celebrating the National Guard’s 81st anniversary.

Maduro was standing next to his wife, Cilia Flores, and several high-ranking military officials at the time the explosions began. He was quickly rushed to safety.

“To the conscious Venezuela, we are going to bet for the good of our country, the hour of the economic recovery has come and we need,” Maduro was saying before being interrupted by the blasts.

The state TV broadcast cut away from the scene as spectators began running for safety.

A second angle of the explosion shows the immediate reaction and rush to protect Maduro.

According to the Venezuelan Communications minister Jorge Rodriguez, multiple drones with explosives attached did not detonate, but the few that did left at least seven military members wounded.

“At exactly 5:41 p.m. in the afternoon several explosions were heard,” Rodriguez added. “The investigation clearly reveals they came from drone-like devices that carried explosives.”

First responders on the scene, including firefighters, are disputing the government’s story about the series of events. At least three officials have said that the explosion was a gas tank explosion inside of an apartment.

President Maduro has said he believes Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos was behind the alleged “drone attack.”

UFC 227 took place Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Following the conclusion of the main event between bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt, the top performers of the night will face the media for the UFC 227 post-fight press conference.

UFC president Dana White will also be in attendance to announce Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night bonuses, along with the official gate and attendance for the championship doubleheader.

The event kicked off at 6:15 p.m. ET with the three-fight UFC Fight Pass preliminary card headlined by Alex Perez vs. Jose Torres. The prelims then moved to FX at 8:00 p.m. ET, leading into the pay-per-view main card with a featured prelim between bantamweights Brett Johns and Pedro Munhoz. Kicking off the main card was a middleweight clash between Kevin Holland and Thiago “Marreta” Santos.

Although his work in Star Trek brought him fame and fortune, Stewart initially faced typecasting and pigeonholing over the role. In 2000, he portrayed Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series, appearing in X-Men, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past. In 2010, Stewart was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama. In 2015, he starred in the American sitcom Blunt Talk. Henry Cejudo shocked the world in the co-main event of UFC 227 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Cejudo used his wrestling pedigree to score multiple takedowns against longtime UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson en route to becoming the new 125-pound champion.

With the split-decision win, Cejudo became the first fighter in UFC history to hold one of the promotion’s belts while also being a former Olympic gold medalist.

The upset victory also ended Johnson’s reign at flyweight, where he set the UFC record for the most consecutive title defenses in history.

TJ Dillashaw vs. Cody Garbrandt delivered in a big way to cap off a thrilling night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday night for UFC 227. The rematch between the heated rivals and former teammates lasted just over four minutes but was packed full of action from beginning to end.

When it was all said and done, it was the UFC bantamweight Dillashaw who was able to retain his title after clipping Garbrandt with a heavy shot that left him rocked before piling on a vicious flurry of strikes against the cage that forced referee Herb Dean to step in and save the day.

The fight-ending sequence was started by a mistake from Garbrandt similar to the rivals’ first bout when he carelessly came rushing in after rocking Dillashaw early. Dillashaw capitalized and the rest was history.

Some of you who have seen or heard of Comic-Con know what it is. SDCC is a place or hero’s and villains coming together to create the ultimate playground for their fans. You can buy and sell comics, watch a new movie and TV trailers, hunt for the latest comic exclusive, and have fun with other fans of comics. But, some people are hesitant when wanting to dress up or even attend. It’s that fear of being judged for expressing their love for a particular superhero or character. Comic-Con isn’t a place of fear or hesitations, it’s a place for people to be outgoing. SDCC holds no judgment on anyone, no matter who you are and how you choose to be.

Dressing up is the big issue with some reserved people. It’s known in social media, and pretty much the entire world who like to judge, dressing up is meant for children under eight years old. Dressing up is not intended for adults, especially in the ages of thirty up. You are looked like someone who doesn’t have their life together or judged because you are different.

That is never an issue at Comic-Con. SDCC invites everyone no matter who they are or how they express themselves. Dress up, don’t dress up, be yourself, Comic-Con judge’s no one. And the people who attend won’t judge because they are the same as everyone else there. Don’t be worried about getting bullied for being yourself, everyone else there is doing the same thing with you, and it’s their inner child.

To those who tease, they can go sit in a corner on time out. While they think about their wrongdoing, you can go have fun at Comic-Con where you know no one will hurt you. Enjoy your time and meet people like you. Everyone at Comic-Con is friendly and always willing to make everyone else’s experience better than theirs.

British children’s entertainer Barry Elliott, better known by the alias “Barry Chuckle,” who served as half of the sibling group, the Chuckle Brothers, has passed away at the age of 73.

What happened?

According to ABC News, Elliott’s manager Phil Dale confirmed his passing on Sunday, adding that Elliot previously endured an illness, but offered no further details. Dale issued the following statement on Twitter confirming the news:

“I’m Devastated to confirm that our wonderful friend Barry Chuckle of The Chuckle Brothers has passed away. Paul said I’ve lost my theatrical partner, brother & very best friend! God Bless Barry, he leaves 50 years of laughter & his legacy of laughter will live on!”

On Twitter, Elliott’s brother Paul, who is known by the alias, “Paul Chuckle,” issued the following statement:

“Paul has asked me to send a message to thank EVERYONE for your lovely messages this morning, he is absolutely devastated so unable to respond himself but your messages really do help and he knows Barry would so happy to know how much he was loved, Sue X”

On Twitter, Channel 5 has also issued the following statement in light of the news:

“Channel 5 is saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Chuckle. As one half of the Chuckle Brothers, Barry entertained audiences over a career spanning decades; more recently, Chuckle Time was a teatime family treat on our channel. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Barry and Paul came from a family of entertainers in northern England and rose to fame ith the ChuckleVision television show, which ran on the BBC from 1987 to 2009. For their work, the brothers were awarded a special British Academy award in 2008.

For a program that has been traditionally bad at football, give all the credit in the world to head coach Bronco Mendenhall as a he turned a 2-10 team two years ago to a 6-6 team just this past season. This is an extra impressive feat considering that all the top in-state talent will always choose traditional powerhouse and rival Virginia Tech over the Cavaliers. Mendenhall is a defense first-type coach and he understands the talent difference between his guys and other ACC teams, however, that didn’t stop him from putting together a defensive unit that flashed top 25 potentials. They were able to hold a dominant Virginia Tech offense to just 10 points a season ago. The problem was that Virginia Tech allowed 10 less than that. It will be interesting to see what can Mendenhall can get out of his guys this year, but it would be wise to keep expectations low.

2018-2019 Summary

Coming off of a six-win season following a two-win season during the 2016 campaign, head coach Bronco Mendenhall has stuck optimism among the Cavalier fan base. Even with as a good of a job as Mendenhall has done with recruiting and seeking out transfers, such as new JUCO transfer quarterback Bryce Perkins, the Cavaliers face an uphill battle in 2018 thanks to a schedule that only has them being favorite in three games. However, the ACC is always a mystery and any team can achieve eight wins relatively easily, but this isn’t yet the time for the Cavaliers. The defense looks good and will certainly be the strong point of this team, but even with Perkins, the offense could still struggle mightily. The difference between bowling or not for the Hoos is going to come down to games against Pitt, North Carolina, and Louisville. If they could somehow get two of three, a six-win season could be in the cards.

When you were a kid, there were moments of wanting or dreaming of being a superhero or a princess. Sometimes your favorite cartoon characters where the people you looked up to. It was appropriate to dress up as those characters for Halloween or on a Saturday afternoon at home. Today, some of us have those same feelings of wanting to be a superhero or princess, but that isn’t possible because we are all adults. If we dress up on a Saturday afternoon, we are looked at as freaks or weirdoes. There is one place that does allow any age or gender to dress up in their dream character.

San Diego Comic-Con or any comic convention for that matter allows everyone to come as they truly are. People stand taller than average, dressing up gives people a confidence builder. Superhero’s and princesses are known to be confident characters, they know how to keep their heads up and learn from mistakes. Every movie and TV show shows the hero losing, then as the end they overcome their mistakes or issues and become the hero they genuinely are. People see that and want to be just like them. Dressing up is their home away from home.

Put someone in the shoes of their favorite hero and stick them in a place where they know they will never be judged, it’s like Christmas to them. There are never any frowns at comic con, it’s all smiles walking around. Kids take pictures seeing people dressed up. They see the hero’s in front of them and jump for joy. Those people dressed as their characters make them feel even stronger in their confidence and happiness as the hero they have always dreamed of being.

Some people take weeks and months to create their costumes. They show their creativity in each detail of the fabric they wear. It makes their convention experience better than the last. There are other’s who buy regular Halloween costumes, but there is no shame. They are having fun and enjoying their time dressing up, so they should be allowed to do what they want. It’s your choice and your happiness.

It’s all about being comfortable with who you are, inside and out. Comic-Con is a pace to be your inner kid without anyone judging or bullying you like in middle school or high school. There should never be any hesitations with dressing up, everyone else is going to be doing it, so why not join them? And everyone should enjoy it while it lasts because SDCC only comes once a year. It’s like a weekend-long Christmas.

Ground and pound paired with stout defense have been the Wisconsin way forever it seems, and 2018 shouldn’t be too different. A year ago the Badgers shocked the college football world a bit with a finish in the AP Top 10 Rankings thanks to their 13-win season. With everyone returning on the offensive side, the Badgers will look to repeat, but there are some significant holes in the defense that could be the difference in the Badgers winning 11 games versus nine. The Big Ten is loaded at the top, and the Badgers could be right in the mix if they can take care of their early stretch of the season and develop some trust in the secondary.

2018-19 Summary

Coming off a 13-1 record a season, Paul Chryst and his Badgers will hope to maintain their status as national contenders in the top-heavy Big Ten. A traditional stingy defense, Wisconsin strengths will switch to the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook is really talented, and the return of his entire offensive line, plus running back Jonathan Taylor could make for one of the most exciting Badgers offenses we’ve seen in the last decade or two. Defensively, the front seven will be led by one of the best linebacking corps in the country, but the secondary will leave a lot to be desired. The Big Ten is going to be wide open after the big three in Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State, who are all national contenders. That week four matchup with Iowa is the biggest game of the season for the Badgers, and the winner of that game could easily achieve the 10-win mark. Unfortunately for Chryst group, three weeks will not be enough to solidify that secondary, and unlike most Iowa teams of the past, their strength this year will be their passing attack, and they could really exploit the backend of the Badgers defense. Yet even with a loss against the Hawkeyes, nine wins is more than doable for an extraordinarily talented Wisconsin team.

Have times changed so much where no one is being taught any manners? Or is memory loss happening with every age? There really isn’t a real answer. Manners become more significant and more important as you get older. Instead of your pleases and thank yous it turns into holding the door open for women and the elderly and helping people with small tedious work. Sometimes making this small polite gesture will earn you uplifting praise or win you a gift. It’s all about good karma. However, you would think people would know this about having good manners or being polite, but it looks like they decided to skip the 1^st grade and not learn the art of manners.

Let’s go back to 1^st grade, shall we? The disgusting little buggers who picked their noses and ate it. The finger paintings that somehow ended up on the refrigerator. And we can’t forget the discovery that glue does taste good. All through the weird, disgusting occurrences in 1^st grade, your oddly hot teacher managed to teach you the in’s and out’s of being the polite young child you are expected to be. Say please when you want something or need something. If someone does something for you or gives you something even if you don’t like it, say thank you. You’re welcome if someone is polite back to you. Three simple sayings that made your grandparents pinch your cheek like a good boy and girl. And somehow through the pain of a pinched cheek, you felt good for being polite and using the manners you were taught.

Has all that learning and good feeling gone down the drain? Did you all manage to shit out all of your good manners the day you entered high school? At least in middle school, you had little manners, but once you hit high school, you develop an attitude. Once in a blue moon, someone will say thank you, or you’re welcome, but every time you hear those words come out of a teenager you are automatically shocked. You feel like someone is swearing at you, but no they are actually polite.

College hits you, and you realize that if you are helpful and polite to someone you will get rewarded in some way. You use manners and politeness as an in to get what you want. Especially, when it comes to older people. They have watched first hand the decrease in manners, so when they see someone younger than them being polite to them, they instantly reward with them with praise or something more significant. It’s a mischievous way to get something, but at least they are using their manners. Probably not the way manners should be looked at, but whatever works for someone to hold the door open for you.

Let’s hope to have good manners and to be polite will have a new wave of life. It needs to pick up fast because sooner or later everyone will be slamming doors in peoples faces and telling them to buzz off instead of having a beautiful day. This world is slowly coming to an end, and it’s all thanks to the lack of manners.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend were enjoying a beautiful vacation in Bali, but that was interrupted early Sunday when a 6.9 magnitude earthquake rocked the area. Three people were killed in the earthquake which struck 50 miles east of Bali. Despite being 50 miles away, the tremors rocked the area where Teigen was staying.

In typical Teigen fashion, and as only she can do, she decided to fire up the old Twitter machine and began live-tweeting her experience on the island.

“Oh man. We are on stilts. It felt like a ride. 15 solid seconds of ‘hooooooly sh-t this is happening,” she wrote. “I very calmly walked outside saying clutching baby saying ‘I’m naked. I’m naked. I’m naked’ like a naked zombie. So many aftershocks.

“I’m either still trembling or these little quakes won’t stop IM TRYING TO BE NORMAL HERE.”

The tremors continued for hours.

Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued in the area, but it has since been lifted. The earthquake also caused an electrical blackout and forced residents to leave their homes to seek higher ground while the tsunami warning was in place, according to a report from CBS.

Teigen, Legend and their children Luna and MIles have been vacationing in Bali for the past week.

At least five people have been reported dead after an airplane crashed at a CVS parking lot in Orange County this Sunday, as reported by the Orange County Fire Authority. The plane went down in the 3900 block of Bristol Street in Santa Ana, with the Costa Mesa Fire Department appearing on the scene.

What happened?

According to NBC Los Angeles, it has been confirmed that all five victims who lost their lives were passengers on the plane; the following information was also given concerning the plane involved:

“The 1973 Cessna 414 fixed wing aircraft is registered to Category III Aviation Corp in San Francisco, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.”

According to USA Today, Capt. Tony Bommarito of the Orange County Fire Authority confirmed that nobody on the ground was injured during the plane crash. At least one car on the ground was hit by airplane parts. The parking lot where the crash took place includes a Staples, a CVS drug store and a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, meaning that the area could have easily been congested at the time of the crash.

An eye-witness described the crash as being near ‘silent’

An eyewitness to the crash, identified as Ella Pham, gave the following account to the same publication:

“It actually came down in front of us. We looked up and we just saw a plane fall. It lost control and it just fell straight down. It didn’t even look like it was trying to land.”

“There was no fire, no flames, no smoke, nothing. It was almost silent.”

According to NBC Los Angeles, the flight tower at a nearby John Wayne Airport gave approval for the aircraft to land at one of its runways after the plane’s pilot declared an emergency, before ultimately crashing.

At this time, the Federal Aviation Administration, or “FAA,” and the National Transportation Safety Board, or “NTSB,” are both investigating the crash.

Sierra Capri is a rising actress who had her breakout performance in 2018 when the Netflix original On My Block was released. Sierra stars as Monse Finnie in the series. She also previously acted as an extra in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures. Sierra claimed that she learned of the opportunity to be in the Netflix original when she spotted a casting call online during her junior year at Armstrong State University, where she majors in Biology.

For Sierra, some aspects of the Monse character come natural as she easily relates to the character in the show.

“I was never one to feel like I had to fit in,” she said in an interview with Essence. “I would just sit back and whoever gravitated towards me, that’s who would stay in my life. She’s definitely independent and very outspoken. I wasn’t as outspoken. Growing up, I tended to be a little shy and not as hot-headed as she was, but we’re definitely both headstrong. That’s where I think we’re the most similar.”

The 19-year-old actress was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

Comic-Con isn’t just a place to buy comics, dress up, or see celebrities. It’s also a place that can help direct someone to their future career. This is more centered around writers and artists, rather than actors or movie creators. It’s hard to run into celebrities and have them give out random job offers. With writers and artists, most professionals are scattered around the convention hall by artist alley or other professional booths. Meeting your hero can be fulfilling but also asking for their advice can give you information on how to start your career, and you may get lucky and get noticed.

Artists kind of have it easy at Comic-Con, there is a whole separate area for them called artist alley. For those up incoming artists, you can basically go around each booth and ask for advice. Some of the even smaller ones you could also ask for them to help put your name out there. But, don’t go straight up to the first artist you see and demand they get you a job, be nice and make small talk. It’s basically a casual interview that could help you improve your artwork or get you higher on the artist scale.

Writers have it hard when attending Comic Con. It’s a little harder to find writers. If you do see them ask for advice and discuss how they got there start. And for those writers who aren’t in the starting line and are in the middle lane, try going through artist alley and pitching ideas to an artist. You may get lucky and find an artist who wants to help you or draw for your comic.

Finding a job is extremely rare at Comic-Con, but it’s a good starting point for getting advice. Don’t expect your life to be changed when attending a comic book convention, your life isn’t a lifetime movie. It takes a lot of time and hard work. Use Comic-Con as a tool to your advantage and work with it. Get your information and work from there, you will build up your knowledge and come back thanking your hero’s for helping you step into your dream job.
