Is Rachel Bush About To Be Single Again? An Investigations

Instagram

Rachel Bush is, for my money (and I’m not very good at gambling so take this with a grain of salt), one of the top 10 or so Instagram models on Earth. She’s still just 20 yet somehow a MILF, which really kind of puts your brain into a vortex: how can someone be both not even in their prime yet also a MILF? These are questions for scientists, not me.

Anyway, unfortunately for all of us, she wasn’t on the market long as she was snapped up by the Buffalo Bills relatively underrated safety Jordan Poyer while she was still in college at FAU. However, because of my deep knowledge of both social media and girlfriends being angry at you, I’m starting to think she maybe, just maybe, be back on the market soon enough.

Exhibit A): Bush is no longer following Poyer on Instagram & vice versa

This is a textbook breakup move. Of the girls I’ve seriously dated, about 50% of them have either unfollowed me or blocked me.

Conversely, Poyer unfollowed Bush, which is strange considering A) essentially every dude in America from age 16 to 40 follows her on Instagram and B) she’s the mother of his child, which is definitely important.

B) They’ve deleted all pictures of each other on social media

Both Rachel & Jordan deleted all photos of each other off Instagram. Kind of like that movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind — Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet erased each other from their memories — except on social media.

C) Her most recent IG caption says “Know your worth!”

This is self-explanatory and a major mantra amongst newly single women. You catch a girl saying “know your worth” and odds are she’s mad at someone who doesn’t.

Instagram Photo

D) Bush posted a bunch of polls on Instagram, asking questions about spouses/couples and the rules of going out.

The polls were taken down quickly and I don’t have any screenshots — because, well, why the hell would I be taking screenshots of that shit in my spare time? — so you’re just going to have to take my word for it.  Plus if you’re reading this far you’ve already bought in.

How do I know this? Well, because like any guy should, when I see she’s put up a new Instagram story, it’s usually the first one I click.

Anyway, she asked a bunch of questions that would imply that she feels the same rules don’t apply for the two of them when it comes to going out with their friends.

Conclusion: Trouble in Paradise

Ultimately these are all petty social media moves (and petty speculation that I wrote after I smoked a litttleeee too much weed), but this is 2018 and there’s something to be said for that. You’ve heard of subtweeting — this is sub-Instagraming.

Are Rachel Bush and Poyer officially #done? I have no idea and frankly could care less. But, since over 600,000 people follow her on Instagram and probably half of them have slid in her DMS,  I am saying they’re both sending some very public signals that there is some trouble in paradise. And truth be told — when someone like this goes back on the market because some idiot athlete was out partying too late or whatever, it’s like Halley’s Comet: once in a lifetime.

Sure, LeBron just moved to LA, but maybe this news will get him to change his mind & head back to Miami instead.

SDCC 2018: Schedule, Dates, Times & Full Preview

San Diego Comic-Con takes place July 19, 2018 – July 22, 2018, at the San Diego Convention Center, with special previews July 18, 2018. This event is said to be, “the grandaddy of annual comics conventions, this sci-fi/animation mecca has cosplay contests, screenings, & countless panels with artists & showrunners.” From my experience, that’s spot on!

While this year there are notable absentees from the Con, such as Marvel Studios and HBO’s Game of Thrones and Westworld, there are more than enough features to fill the empty slots.

With the usual frontrunners out this year, Wonder Woman 1984 and Aquaman from Warner Bros., Universal bringing the Halloween reboot, M. Night Shyamalan’s Split sequel Glass, and the Arrowverse on the CW, all have their moment in the spotlight.

Let’s take a look at what to expect — here are the movie and TV panels coming to Comic-Con International 2018. (All times are in PST.)

Top 10 Best College Basketball Arenas Of All Time

Best College Basketball Arenas

Shutterstock

There are not many things that can match the excitement, hostility, and intimidation of an imposing home crowd in college basketball. The arenas cram in as many fans as possible like sardines in a can, and they put them right on top of the action. Unlike other sports, there is a personal element between players and fans at basketball games. Every cheer, chant, and insult can be heard on the court. It provides a level of intimacy that I’m sure most visiting players at these college games could do without.

The lengths that some student sections go to get under the skin of opposing teams is pure insanity, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. The torture that JJ Redick endured during his Duke days comes to mind when thinking about how intimidating the college basketball atmosphere can be.

Also, let’s not forget about the history that resides in some of these arenas. Iconic moments in sports and world history have occurred on the courts you will see on this list. It is a collection of modern marvels and antiques we should always cherish.

The college game is unlike anything else, and these ten arenas embodied all the traits that were mentioned above.

10. O’Connell Center – Florida Gators

Instagram Photo

The “Rowdy Reptiles” that occupy the Stephen C. O’Connell Center give the Florida Gators one of the most intimidating home courts in all of college basketball. Florida has been one of the most successful basketball programs in the SEC and the nation over the past two decades and having the O’Dome rock on game nights helps tremendously.

The university recently upgraded its basketball arena, gutting the building to providing a more modernized feel to the facility geared toward increasing the fan experience.

9. WisePies Arena “The Pit” – New Mexico Lobos

Instagram Photo

“The Pit” as its been dubbed is one of the most unique facilities in the country. The arena sits 37 feet below street level, hence the nickname. The arena has been used many times to host NCAA tournament games, including the iconic Jim Valvano celebration after winning the 1983 national championship. Basketball writer John Feinstein described the arena as “Roman gladiators emerging into a wall of sound”, that about cements The Pit’s place on this list.

8. Rupp Arena – Kentucky Wildcats

Instagram Photo

Rupp Arena is home to one of the most storied basketball programs in college history. The arena is named after coach Adolf Rupp who ranks fifth in all-time wins and won four national champions at Kentucky. Rupp Arena is the largest basketball-specific designed arena in the country. The scene is electric during Kentucky home games providing an atmosphere as good as its team’s winning percentage.

7. Carrier Dome – Syracuse Orange

Instagram Photo

The Carrier Dome is another very unique basketball arena, and that is because it’s not an arena at all. The Carrier Dome is home to the Syracuse football team, and during the basketball season half the stadium is cut off and turned into a basketball arena. The Dome has seating capacity for 35,000 fans and gets deafeningly loud as the cheers echo and bounce off of the dome roof.

6. Dean Smith Center – UNC Tar Heels

Instagram Photo

The “Dean Dome” as it is most commonly referred to is home to the North Carolina Tar Heels. And once the student section was expanded in the Dean Smith Center, the atmosphere has been taken to a whole other level thrusting it into becoming one of the best courts the college game has to offer. The arena is named after legendary coach Dean Smith and is the fourth largest in the country.

5. Gallagher Iba Arena – Oklahoma State Cowboys

Instagram Photo

The home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys is one of the oldest arenas in college basketball. Gallagher Iba Arena was built in 1938 and named after legendary wrestling coach Ed Gallagher and basketball coach Henry Iba.

The arena has been known by two different nicknames over the years, “The Madison Square Garden of the Plains” and “The Rowdiest Arena in the Country”. In 2005, OK State named the court “Eddie Sutton Court” in honor of the schools second winningest basketball coach.

4. The Palestra – UPenn Quakers

Instagram Photo

The most historic arena in all of the college basketball resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is home to the UPenn Quakers. If you are a big basketball historian visiting the Palestra and taking in the sights, feel, and smells of the old gym is a must. The arena is designed in such a way the fans are literally right on top of the action giving it a unique atmosphere unmatched anywhere else.

The Palestra has been called “The most important building in the history of college basketball” and “The Cathedral of College Basketball”. The historic arena has hosted more games, more visiting teams, and more NCAA tournaments than any other facility in college basketball. It is truly one of a kind.

3. Allen Fieldhouse – Kansas Jayhawks

Instagram Photo

Allen Fieldhouse is home to the Kansas Jayhawks and statistically speaking in terms of wins and losses provides the best home-court advantage in the nation. The Jayhawks went on a 54 game home winning streak between 2013 and 2017. During the 2017 season, the noise level was recorded at 130.4 decibels marking the loudest recorded level ever at a basketball game.

2. Cameron Indoor – Duke Blue Devils

Instagram Photo

They don’t call them the Cameron Crazies for nothing. The home of the Duke Blue Devils is one of the most raucous downright insane atmospheres in college basketball; the scene is quite extraordinary. Also, Blue Devil fans are known for setting up camp outside the arena before big games called “Krzyzewskiville”.

Cameron Indoor does not have a huge capacity, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most intimidating home courts.

1. Assembly Hall – Indiana Hoosiers

Instagram Photo

Assembly Hall, the home of the Indiana Hoosiers, is truly a spectacle that needs to be seen by every college basketball fan. It has been called by many as the loudest arena in the nation. It has an old-school feel that becomes a sea of Hoosiers’ red on gameday. Sportscaster Gus Johnson dubbed Assembly Hall “The Carnegie Hall of basketball”. The arena has seating for over 17,000 fans that is two walls of red with a basketball court in the middle. The atmosphere and overall historic feel of the arena make it the best in college basketball.

Top 10 Best Players In College Basketball Today

Best Players In College Basketball

In the new era of college basketball, the game has been defined by the one-and-done’s because they are usually the guys that become high draft picks based on potential. The forgotten stars are the guys that stay for more than one year and improve every season. While the one-and-done’s certainly flash, it is the more experienced players that usually come out on top. Just look at Villanova’s last two national championships for reference. Here’s the list of 10 returning players who can make a lot of noise in the NCAA this year, and potentially lead their team to a national title.

10. Anfernee McLemore, F, Auburn

Instagram Photo

An ankle injury late in the season derailed Auburn’s hope of making any type of fruition out of their NCAA tournament dreams. In just under 20 minutes a game, McLemore was putting up seven points, five rebounds, and 2.7 blocks off the bench. He was a game changer for the Tigers and a huge part of their success throughout the regular season. Those 2.7 blocks a game were good enough to lead the SEC even with a season-ending injury. McLemore also took it upon himself to develop a reliable three-point stroke that he saw go in on 18 attempts on 46 tries. Pretty good for a guy that went one for one his freshman season. When McLemore returns healthy, and with increased minutes, he is going to be a top 10 players in the country and certainly one of the best forwards at the college game.

9. Jeff Dowtin, G, Rhode Island

Instagram Photo

The rising junior will be returning to a Rhode Island Rams team that will be losing four of their five starters from a season ago, along with coach Dan Hurley. To say there is an opportunity for Dowtin to be a star would be putting it lightly. After averaging 10 points a game for the Rams last year, it is clear that Dowtin is a scorer but what truly makes him an elite guard and one of the nations best is his passing vision. He is going to be the first, second, and third option for the Rams next year, and it is effortless to imagine him averaging a double-double next year. He is a guard of the forgotten true-point guard mold, and it will be fascinating to watch him in a primary role.

8. Clayton Custer, G, Loyola-Chicago

Instagram Photo

The anchor behind the Cinderella story of the 2018 NCAA tournament, Custer will look to build off his dazzling performances and lead the Ramblers to a national title. With a game-winner over Tennesee in the Sweet 16 and a game-tying shot against Miami with a minute to play, it is safe to say he possesses the clutch gene. However, he didn’t just make noise in the post-season as he put together a marvelous regular season that did not get the attention it deserved. Averaging 13 points, four assists, and a ridiculous 46 percent from three-point range made him one of the most lethal offensive players in the country. Custer is going to come back with a vengeance, and the Ramblers will be a force to be reckoned with.

7. Oshae Brissett, F, Syracuse

Instagram Photo

In a freshman campaign that saw Brisset putting up just about 15 points a night, along with nine boards, his return for a sophomore season with the combination of Tyus Battle could bring the Orange back to the promised land. At a strong 6’8, Brissett was a star in that famous Boeheim 2-3 zone where he racked up 29 blocks and 43 steals. Offensively, he likes to use his large frame and athletic ability to attack the basket and get to the line. If he can find some consistency on his outside stroke and improve upon his 33 percent mark a season ago, he will be a top player in the country with a chance to lead Syracuse back to a top 10 rankings in the country.

6. Killian Tillie, F, Gonzaga

Instagram Photo

Tillie shocked the Bulldog fan base when he announced that he would be returning for his junior campaign. Tillie is a stat-sheet-stuffer-supreme as Dick Vitale likes to put it with averages of 13 points a game, six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. If that’s not incredible enough, do not forget about his 48 percent clip from three-point range on 94 attempts. Tillie can do anything on a basketball court, and his return along with fellow highly touted NBA prospect Rui Hachimura should have the Bulldogs in good shape to be a national contender all season long.

5. Grant Williams, F, Tennesse

Instagram Photo

The 2017-2018 SEC player of the year is back for more after a heartbreaking ending a year ago to Loyola-Chicago. At 6’7 weighing 240lbs, Williams is a nightmare to handle around the basket. He crashes the glass and refuses to be denied when making his way to the cup. 15 points a night, with six rebounds, and 1.5 have him poised to reclaim the SEC player of the year with the hopes of taking Tennesse one step further. After dropping at least 20 points eight times last year against the likes of Villanova, Auburn, Purdue, and Florida, Williams might even find himself as a national player of the year candidate. His return along with Admiral Schofield should keep Tennesse relevant as a national contender, and they seem poised for a final four run; they have improved every season while these guys have been there.

4. Mike Daum, F, South Dakota State

Instagram Photo

Mike Daum will return to his legendary career with the Jackrabbits and look to improve on his 24 points a game and 10 rebounds. Daum is an efficient volume scorer, a rare trait, in the mold of Kevin Love and he will improve. With a 50 point game already to his name, the “Dauminator” will look to bring his scoring average up to 30 this year along with another NCAA tournament bid for South Dakota State. As mentioned before, the efficient volume scorer was able to shoot 43 percent from deep. If he can improve on that and keep the Jackrabbits as relevant as they can be, he’ll certainly be a Wooden Award candidate.

3. Rui Hachimura, F, Gonzaga

Instagram Photo

The second Bulldog to find his way on this list, Hachimura is a rare talent and may have passed on a lock at the lottery for a shot at being a top-five pick in a weaker draft. But to get there, he’s going to need to dominate in his junior campaign the way he did during his sophomore year where he put up 12 points and five rebounds in just 20 minutes a game. If he can improve on his three-point stroke (5-26), he will be a can’t miss prospect for NBA scouts, but also a dominant college player as well. Gonzaga has a lot of hype to live it up to this year, but if Hachimura and Tillie can keep progressing, skies the limit for this team.

2. Deandre Hunter, G/F, Virginia

Instagram Photo

After winning the ACC’s sixth man of the year award, Hunter, as well as the rest of the Cavaliers, will be out to avenge their first-round exit a season ago when they became the first 1-seed to ever lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament. A relief for Hunter is that a broken wrist in the ACC tournament actually held him out of the game, so he technically wasn’t a part of the wrong side of history. Virginia was putting up historic defensive numbers, and it started with all 6’7 of Hunter and his elite length at the guard spot. Hunter also put up nine points a game and four rebounds to go along with his 38 percent clip from deep. He’s a do it all guy and will see more minutes in his sophomore campaign, and is poised to be a top-five player in the nation leading Virginia back to greatness on their revenge tour, the 2018-2019 season. Teams should be wary of the Cavaliers.

1. Cassius Winston, G, Michigan State

Instagram Photo

In his sophomore season on a loaded Spartans team, Winston was able to display his talents and proved to be one of the best point guards in the country. His numbers were gaudy with 13 points a game, seven assists, and the ridiculous averages of 50 percent from three and 90 percent from the charity stripe. As sensational as those numbers were, look for them to improve with star players Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. off to the NBA. In an increased role, look for the best point guard in the country to average over 15 points a game and somewhere around 10 assists on another dominant Spartans team.

5 Predictions For The Second Half Of The MLB Season

$

Wikimedia Commons

We’ve already had a wild first half of the MLB season, full of plenty of ups and downs, surprises, and an incredibly top-heavy American League. But what comes next? All eyes are on the MLB, and the second half won’t disappoint.

Manny Machado Gets Traded to the Phillies, Helps Them Win The NL East

Instagram Photo

The Phillies look more and more like Machado’s destination every day. They have a stacked farm system, a great young team and just one hole to fill, the hole of a superstar. Enter Machado. The free agent to be moved to the National League and lights up the second half of the season. After propelling the Phillies to the playoffs, Machado finally gets a taste of winning and decides to re-sign with Philly. This makes them a juggernaut in the National League for years to come.

The Red Sox Win the AL East and Secure Home Field Advantage

Instagram Photo

The AL East is going to be a dogfight in the second half. The Red Sox currently own a 4.5 game lead over the Yankees. Expect that to be no more than two games going into the final series of the year when the two teams face off at Fenway Park. The Red Sox will win the division for the third straight year for the first time in club history. Led by MVP candidates Mookie Betts and J.D Martinez, Boston will send the Yankees back to the Wild Card round again for a faceoff with…the Seattle Mariners.

The Marines Break the Longest Active Playoff Drought

Instagram Photo

It happened! The Mariners haven’t been to the playoffs since 2001 but led by surprise MVP candidate Mitch Haniger, they shake off their midseason slump, continue their amazing record in one-run games and break the drought. Sadly, that run comes to an end quickly when they meet the Yankees in a one-game playoff at Yankee Stadium.

A smaller prediction, the Mariners will make one last push at the trade deadline to acquire a starting pitcher like J.A Happ to give them an extra arm down the line. They also want to use up the eight million dollar exception given to them by Robinson Cano’s suspension.

The Cubs Turn it On to Win the NL Central

Instagram Photo

The Brewers have been one of the best stories in baseball this year, and have really come into their own, led by Jesus Aguilar. But the Cubs still have a star-studded lineup and a pitching staff that isn’t at full strength yet. Yu Darvish will return to form in the second half, and the Cubs are going to go on a magical run to win the NL Central, again.

Javier Baez will make a name for himself as one of the best players in baseball, and Kris Bryant will return to being an MVP caliber player after coming off his shoulder injury. Don’t worry Brewers fans, your team still makes the playoffs! Where they face off with…

The Washington Nationals!

Instagram Photo

The Nationals, who come in second in a very close race with the Phillies, earn a spot in a heavily contested NL Wild Card game. With Max Scherzer on the mound, the Nats can’t possibly lose that game. And they don’t. (Sorry Brewers fans) After a torrid run to the NLCS, led by Bryce Harper, Harper decides to stay in Washington, where he gets paid around $375 million.

Anthony Bourdain’s Girlfriend Posts “Heart-Wrenching” Story That Lists The 19 Times He Publicly Referenced Suicide

WENN

Asia Argento, the girlfriend of the late Anthony Bourdain, has tweeted out a “heart-wrenching” PDF file that details all of the time Bourdain referenced suicide publicly. In total, there were 19 instances from the year 2000 to the year 2017 where Bourdain made a public comment about suicide, particularly hanging himself, or hanging himself in the shower.

The three-page piece, titled “Anthony Bourdain’s long-burning suicidal wick – in his own words”, was published in July. Argento tweeted out the link on Monday, July 16, saying that Bourdain had never discussed this “obsession” with her.

The first time Bourdain mentioned suicide was back in 2000 and the most recent before his death was in October last year.

Bourdain, a widely beloved chef and television host, was found dead in a French hotel room at the age of 61 on Friday, June 8

I never knew about this obsession of his. He never told me. Heart wrenching read: https://t.co/oqQsj4lxz9

— Asia Argento (@AsiaArgento) July 16, 2018

The article concludes rather somberly, wondering why we (the public) were surprised at Bourdain’s passing and if there was more we could have done:

Taken as a whole, these narrative threads reveal a sobering portrait of Anthony Bourdain’s state of mind in the months preceding his suicide. And across the course of his long journey to Kaysersberg, France, he was brutally honest and open about the demons that haunted him, his conviction that they stemmed from a character flaw beyond the reach of therapeutic remedies, and his preoccupation with hanging himself in the shower as a final solution to his suffering. In the end, Anthony Bourdain left behind only 2 unanswered questions when he entered his lonely hotel room for the last time on June 7.

The more obvious question, in the absence of a suicide note, concerns the triggering event that led Bourdain to finally act on his suicidal thoughts. Within the context of the current national dialog about suicide prevention, however, the more important question is why were we so surprised when he did?

Best Moments From San Diego Comic Cons Past

‘San Diego Comic Con’ is the go-to place for breaking news in every aspect of pop culture and entertainment. Over the years, it has given us some historical landmarks in the realm of TV and movies, as well as provide some shock and awe along the way. Before we begin coverage of the infamous San Diego Comic Con… let’s take a look back at some of the highlights of the past decade. Some moments definitely set the stage for others to follow and every one of these moments shows how devoted certain fandoms are when it comes to showing their loyalty!

2006: Kevin Feige Predicts The Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers

This may have not been a big moment at the time, but the long-term impact might be the biggest to ever happen at Comic-Con. During a question for Feige asked by an audience member regarding the potential of future crossover events, Feige calmly responded:

Jon Favreau was on the panel talking about Iron Man, and Louis Leterrier was talking about The Incredible Hulk, and Edgar Wright was talking about Ant-Man. And somebody asked, “Could the characters cross over? Is this person ever going to meet this person?” I was asked, “Are we ever going to see the Avengers on screen?” And I said, “Who knows. This is a big new experiment for Marvel. But it’s no coincidence that we have the rights to Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Cap –” and the whole audience started cheering. That was one of the moments where I went, boy, if only, if only we could actually sort of pull this all together.

I think it’s safe to say Marvel Studios pulled it together, indeed!

2007: First Iron Man Trailer Debut

Marvel

SlashFilm:

Director Jon Favreau showed up at San Diego with his cast and crew and a teaser trailer for the film which had just finished shooting a couple weeks prior. Nowadays, studios plan for Comic Con, sometimes showing footage from films still in production. (Marvel has been known to pay to have visual effects footage done specifically in preparation for the July con.) At the time, however, it was not expected that Marvel would show up at the convention with a full trailer. And not just any trailer, one of the best teaser trailers of all time. It knocked the socks off the packed Hall H crowd.

It’s easy to look back and now see how obvious it was that Iron Man was going to be a mega-hit, but at the time it wasn’t so obvious. Nowadays a film like Iron Man could get its own panel, but Iron Man was only just a small part of Paramount’s panel which included eight other films. Actually, Iron Man was not even the headliner of the panel; Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Star Trek followed the short Iron Man segment. Favreau has even credited Comic Con for helping to launch Iron Man into the mainstream.

2008: Twilight Fans Take Over Hall H

The Twilight Saga

SlashFilm:

Some fanboys might say this belongs on the worst moments in Comic Con list, but the invasion of the Twihards was an important moment for the San Diego convention. Twilight’s appearance at the 2009 edition of the convention marked a huge change in what kind of films would appear in Hall H. Not only that, it upped the ante in terms of extreme fandom. Twilight fans lined up over a day in advance to see Summit’s New Moon panel the following afternoon.

That extreme was unheard of at the time, but lining up overnight quickly became the norm in the years that followed. Even Comic Con had to respond and started issuing wristbands to try to discourage fans from camping out in line overnight. Sure, someone’s mom asking Robert Pattinson what kind of underwear he wears might have been painfully embarrassing but Twilight, like it or hate it, helped elevated Hall H to a new level of hype and fandom.

2009: Saying Goodbye to Lost

SlashFilm:

The final Lost panel featured executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse on stage answering fan questions in fantastically cryptic ways (as always), but also featured some great bits from the cast of the series asking questions at the Q&A, which had a huge impact on the rise of the pop culture screenprint movement.

The presentation also featured some great videos, including a commercial for Mr. Cluck’s Chicken Shack featuring Hurley, a short commercial depicting Oceanic Airlines with a perfect safety record and a segment from America’s Most Wanted featuring Kate. The presentation was a great emotional send-off to the series and offered some great teases about the final season of the show.

2010: Avengers Cast Has On-Stage Roll Call

SlashFilm:

At the end of the Captain America and Thor presentation at the 2010 Comic Con, Marvel Studios surprised fans with “one more thing” by revealing the cast of The Avengers. Sure, most of the members were already confirmed, but the speculation on who would play The Hulk came down to the day or two before the presentation. Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, came on stage to introduce his group of Avengers, including their director Joss Whedon. It was one of those moments that might not read like much more than a photo op on paper, but it turned out to be pure magic on stage. Watch the clip above and relive the moment for yourself.

2011: Andrew Garfield Shows Up In Spider-Man Costume To Give Emotional Speech

SlashFilm:

Okay so The Amazing Spider-Man didn’t turn out as well as we had hoped, but no one in Hall H in 2011 will forget the film’s star Andrew Garfield’s surprise appearance in a Spider-Man costume during the Sony panel. Garfield showed up in character to read a passionate heartfelt speech from a Spider-man fan to the Spider-man fans packed in the hall. This is also the first notable time that an actor dressed in character at a Hall H presentation, something that has been emulated in various capacities in the years that followed.

2012: Surprise Godzilla Teaser Trailer

SlashFilm:

Legendary has tried to surprise the Hall H audience year after year, and in 2012 they delivered the goods: another VFX test, kind of like the one Disney had for Tron: Legacy years earlier. This one was for the announced Gareth Edwards‘ Godzilla reboot.

The teaser (which was shown twice) is fairly brief, with the camera slowly moving through an utterly devastated urban landscape. There’s even a building that looks like a monster walked right through it, and we see the suggestion of a six-armed beast lying dead in rubble. Then the money shot: Godzilla, seen from behind, turning his head to the camera in profile before emitting the monster’s signature screech. The vision of Godzilla was more a suggestion than a detailed reveal, but the guy is HUGE, with a tail and spines up his back that are very clearly meant to evoke the classic creature design. The head is a bit more elongated than the first couple iterations of the beast, but not to the degree of the version seen in the Emmerich remake.

The teaser trailer had all the buzz of the 2012 convention, with tons of fans at home trying to watch bootlegged versions before the studio quickly removed them.

2013: Loki Shows Up!

This is by far my favorite moment in SDCC history, not just because I’m a huge Marvel fan, but the way the crowd was so engaged had me jumping in my seat as if I were there! I can watch it right now and still have that same visceral reaction like it was the first time seeing it.

SlashFilm:

Tom Hiddleston certainly wasn’t the first actor to show up on the Hall H stage in costume and in character, but when Loki appeared during the Marvel Studios presentation in 2013, he had the audience in the palm of his hand. For many fans, this was the best thing to happen in Hall H that year. It wasn’t footage, it wasn’t a reveal of information about an upcoming film, it was just fun. I think sometimes movie studios doubt themselves and put too much value in the footage. Sure, the fans at Comic Con want to see the footage, but a once in a lifetime experience like this can be even better.

2013/2014: Batman V Superman Announcement and Dawn of Justice Teaser Footage Screened

SlashFilm:

Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has had a great run in San Diego. In 2013, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder invited Harry Lennix on stage to read a passage from the story which inspired Snyder’s next Superman film. The passage was from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. Russ Fischer wrote:

One of the loudest crowd sounds I’ve ever heard in my life was the deafening roar that erupted in Hall H at Comic Con this year when Zack Snyder rolled a short video in which Superman’s ‘S’ logo appeared, then was shadowed by Batman’s own symbol.

A year later Snyder returned with a reveal of Wonder Woman and a brief clip of Batman in his armored suit looking up in the rain at Superman floating above him.

2015: Surprise Star Wars Concert

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

SlashFilm:

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel was fun, featuring a good mix of new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie and Domhnall Gleeson and classic heroes Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. But the big surprise came at the end of the panel when director J.J. Abrams invited the entire crowd of Hall H, about 6,500 people, to a live Star Wars concert behind the convention center. At the impromptu concert venue, fans were given free Hasbro toy lightsabers and took in an evening of Star Wars music followed by fireworks.

I can’t imagine how Disney was able to keep this whole thing secret, especially with the amount of people that needed to be involved to pull off this stunt. At the end of the day, it will probably remain most people’s best memory from the convention.

2017: WESTWORLD: THE EXPERIENCE

Instagram Photo

The Verge:

The cast and creators of HBO’s Westworld came to Hall H to talk about the first season (and reveal absolutely nothing about the second), but it was outside the convention center that the show made the biggest impression. Westworld: The Experience was ostensibly a promotional brand activation, but it went far beyond what we’ve seen from these kinds of experiences in the past. It allowed guests to visit the offices of Delos, Inc., get evaluated by a specialist who determined whether they were a white hat or a black hat, and then sent them into a reproduction of the Mariposa Saloon to have cocktails and talk with a host.

What made it so memorable were the performers. Throughout the experience, guests interacted with some incredibly talented actors who had the mannerisms and vocal cadences of the show’s hosts down pat. It wasn’t just a promotion; it was a step into Westworld itself.

Anytime you think something can’t be topped, Comic-Con finds a way to outdo itself! This year, without HBO’s Game of Thrones or Westworld and no Marvel Studio panels slated to occur, this leaves room for other shows to step up their game in the absence of the big boys. Be sure to check out the latest coverage right here, and we’ll keep you up to date on what big attractions hit SDCC this year!

President Trump will make remarks about his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at 2 p.m. at the start of his meeting with members of Congress, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said.

You can watch President Trump’s remarks on the Putin summit on CNN or Fox News.

In the “1600 Daily” — a daily briefing published by the official White House website — the White House said that President Trump “continued a proud American tradition on the world stage.”

via WhiteHouse.gov:

America has no illusions when it comes to Russia. President Trump directly addressed the issue of Russian interference in U.S. elections with President Putin, and the Trump Administration has implemented a range of tough sanctions on Russian individuals and entities.

“The disagreements between our two countries are well known,” President Trump said. “But if we’re going to solve many of the problems facing our world, then we’re going to have to find ways to cooperate.”

Following Trump’s comments in Helsinki, House Speaker Paul Ryan released the following statement:

There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world. That is not just the finding of the American intelligence community but also the House Committee on Intelligence. The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy.

Sources told CNN that President Trump is “surprised at the fierce criticism of Putin news conference.”

This article will be updated with President Trump’s statement once they become available.

With the MLB All-Star Break finally upon us, it is time to see which section of the league reigns supreme in this year’s All-Star Game. Although this game no longer determines home-field advantage in the upcoming World Series, players from both sections still want to showcase their skills and prove that they belong on this stage. With every player looking to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, expect this game to be extremely competitive as a result.

The American League has dominated this game in recent years. Specifically, the American League has won each of the last five All-Star Games and have also won 12 out of the last 15. Starting for the American League this year is Boston Red Sox’s ace Chris Sale. This season, Sale is 10-4 with a 2.23 earned run average. However, despite his stellar numbers, some people believe that he did not deserve the starting nod over fellow ace Luis Severino of the New York Yankees. Regardless, Sale has started this game in the past and should pitch very well in this position again.

The National League will look to end its current five game losing streak and its pitching will be the key to victory. Starting for the National League is Washington Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer. This season, Scherzer has been unbelievable. In 20 starts, he has a 12-5 record with a 2.41 earned run average. Similarly to Sale, Scherzer also has experience starting this game and will look to dominate in front of his home fans in Washington D.C.

As for my prediction, I have to side with the American League. Although one might just cite the outcomes of this game in recent years, I truly believe that the American League possesses the better team. Both teams possess high quality pitching but the National League’s lineup is significantly weaker than the American League’s. I expect this to be a low scoring game but I do think that the American League’s dominance will live on for at least one more year.

WWE SmackDown Live Stream: How To Watch ‘SmackDown’ Online – 07/17/18

It’s Tuesday so that means it’s the blue brands turn to address the fallout from Extreme Rules this past Sunday! Most of the Championship scene seemed to stay the same except for one big surprise! There will be a lot of superstars looking for revenge tonight, and is this the last of Rusev Day? Here’s how and where to watch SmackDown Live tonight!

Tonight SmackDown Live will be at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Only one title changed hands Sunday night and that was the US Title. Shinsuke Nakamura was looking to get his hands on his first main roster title against Jeff Hardy after a failed stream of title shots against AJ Styles. Nakamura started the match in true Nakamura fashion, by hitting Hardy with a low blow. Even though Hardy told the ref he was fine to start the match after the assault, he was almost immediately pinned. After his defeat, Randy Orton came out and assaulted an already beaten Hardy. Tonight Hardy has a rematch to try and regain his US Title, will The Viper play a part in it?

The scourge of the SmackDown Live Women’s division struck again. James Ellsworth proved that even when hung from the ceiling in a shark cage he can ruin a match. Ellsworth provided enough support for Carmella so she could retain her title against Asuka at Extreme Rules. This bodes well for Carmella’s title run, but probably not for Ellsworth’s health…

The Bludgeon Brothers made sure that Team Hell No had no chance of winning Sunday, assaulting the pair before they even came to the ring. Daniel Bryan did his best to take on the pair solo but that’s a tall order even if his partner wasn’t injured in the prior attack. The Bludgeon Brothers may have retained their titles, but Daniel Bryan isn’t someone you want as an enemy.

Sunday wasn’t the happiest of Rusev Days. The Bulgarian Brute fought hard but wasn’t able to beat the Phenomenal One. Rusev was thwarted by Aiden English’s attempt to help him, running right into the exposed turnbuckle that English had revealed. Will Rusev get another shot at the title, or will he look to get back at his partner for costing him the championship?

Which Sport Fan Stereotype Are You?

Sport Fan Stereotypes

Sports fans can be the life of the party while other’s can ruin the night for everyone. Some are energetic and lively while others can be flat out annoying. Sporting events are meant to be enjoyed amongst others with the healthy fun of competition. It shouldn’t be a yelling match between two drunk men in a bar. Sports fans can take their love of their teams to the extreme. Take a look at our list for sport fan stereotypes and see which one you are, and be honest with your choice.

The Bandwagon Fan

Instagram Photo

There is always that one fan you know who can never choose a team. Every season they decide to root for a different team. More than likely it’s the team that one the championship the year before or the underdogs. These fans are probably people who know very little about sports and try to fit into their friend group. They will die for their chosen team, but they probably couldn’t name one player on the team.

The Gambler

Instagram Photo

The fan who will bet money on anything that happens in the game. They are not afraid to throw their money around, but that doesn’t mean this fan is wealthy. They are probably broke, and their only income is the money they win from gambling. Stay far away from this fan when they come into view, hold your wallet tight and slowly step away.

The Anger Management Fan

Instagram Photo

This is a fan who will threaten to kill you. The anger turns on when their team loses the coin toss. No tears will be shed by this person, more blood, and sweat. If their team loses they will throw their TV out the window or throw themselves out the window. This person does not like to lose at anything. But, don’t think you are safe around them. If they don’t hurt themselves, they will hurt you. It’s best to take away any sharp or heavy objects around them.

The Sore Winner & Loser

Instagram Photo

Similar to the anger management fan, but in this case, it’s someone who overreacts when winning and losing. If their team loses, they will pitch a fit like a child, however, if their team wins they will run around their neighborhood screaming at the top of their lungs telling everyone they are losers. They are not afraid about what other people think of them; it’s their way or no way.

The “I Don’t Know What’s Going On” Fan

Instagram Photo

Usually, there is one person at a sports party who has no idea what is going on. Sometimes they are clueless about what sport is being played. These fans are usually only at the parties to watch the halftime shows or mooch off the free food. They are not real sports fans and deserve to be kicked out of every party unless they bring alcohol, which in that case they are more than welcome to stay and not cheer.

Ohio State Sued By Former Wrestlers For Ignoring Sexual Abuse

Monday, July 16, 2018, four anonymous former Ohio State University wrestlers filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court against the university for ignoring the sexual misconduct of Dr. Richard Strauss, which continued for almost two decades.

The lawsuit alleges, “Despite being repeatedly informed of Dr. Strauss’s sexual assault, abuse, battery, molestation, and/or harassment, OSU failed to take appropriate action (or, in fact, any action whatsoever) to stop or prevent Dr. Strauss from continuing his rampant sexual misconduct.”

Who Is Dr. Richard Strauss?

Dr. Richard Strauss was employed as both the university’s team doctor and as an associate professor of medicine. Over his 20-year tenure at the university, he assaulted somewhere between 1,500 and 2,500 male Ohio State athletes in 14 sports, the suit claims. Strauss even earned the nickname “Dr. Jelly Paws” for “his notoriously hands-on physical examinations,” the suit also says.

What Happened?

Strauss frequented the saunas, locker rooms and showers of Larkins Hall, a former OSU recreational facility which had been taken over by aggressive voyeurs who worked at and attended the school. The voyeurs would regularly masturbate while watching the athletes. Head coach Russ Hellickson had to physically remove some of these men from the building on multiple occasions.

The lawsuit goes into detail on how the students and Hellickson repeatedly asked the university to either make changes to Larkins Hall or move the wrestling, gymnastics and swimming teams to another facility (even presenting drawings of proposed changes to former Athletic Director Andy Geiger), but no action was taken. In Larkins Hall, Strauss would linger in the shower to see the athletes naked and even moved his locker to be next to a wrestler he was particularly fond of.

Male athletes were required by OSU to undergo medical examinations with Strauss at least once every season. During these examinations, Strauss would order them to undress below the waist, after which he would fondle their genitalia and digitally penetrate their anuses.

Dr. Strauss “treated student-athletes for everything from heartburn to sprained ankles,” and, “Regardless of the ailment,” he would find a way to molest them during examinations, the lawsuit states. When athletes were in need of medical attention, they were forced to choose between the treatment necessary to continue their college careers and sexual abuse.

After 19 years of complaints, the university held a hearing on the allegations against Strauss in 1997, but no disciplinary or legal action was taken. Not long after, in 1998, the physician quietly retired in California. In 2005, he committed suicide at age 67. That same year, Larkins Hall was torn down.

Investigation And Lawsuit

Recently, several former student-athletes have come forward to share their stories of Strauss’s assault. According to the lawsuit, this is not at all new. A student came forward about a medical examination with the doctor as early as 1978, the year he was hired by Ohio State.

In April of 2018, the university announced that private investigators were looking into the alleged misconduct of Dr. Strauss.

The lawsuit accuses OSU of Title IX and civil rights violations for not acting on knowledge of Strauss’ misconduct. The plaintiffs request unspecified damages and for an injunctive order that the school create a program for the protection of future student-athletes.

The four unnamed wrestlers who filed the suit alleged that they were all sexually assaulted by Strauss in the late 1980s or 1990s. One Plaintiff reports that Strauss abused him during approximately 50 examinations, the first taking place when he was just 14 years old.

Jim Jordan

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a founding member of the Freedom Caucus who was an assistant coach of the school’s wrestling program from 1987 to 1995, has repeatedly denied claims by several wrestlers that he was aware of Strauss abusing members of his team.

One of the former students who claim Jordan had knowledge of the misconduct is Dunyasha Yetts, who went to Jordan after Strauss fondled him in 1992. Yetts said to the Associated Press, “He’d even make comments, ‘This guy better not touch me'”. According to Yetts, the doctor fondled him at least twice after his conversation with Jordan.

In the wake of the allegations, Jordan has gone to Twitter to attack CNN for vetting sources affirming his awareness of the abuse, using the “fake news” hashtag.

Now @CNN is contacting all 100+ of our former staff and interns asking for dirt on me. Getting desperate! How can you ever trust such #fakenews?

The ESPYs Live Stream: How to Watch ESPYs Online

In the midst of the summer, it is time to look back and reflect on all the outstanding achievements made in athletics with the annual ESPYs. This year, it is hosted by former Nascar and Formula One driver Danica Patrick. Patrick will open up the award show, like all previous hosts, with a monologue teasing fellow athletes in attendance. Although no one truly knows how she will do as a host, I just hope that she does not crash and burn like her stock cars did during her racing career.

One award that possesses the greatest amount of uncertainty with regards to who will win it is the “Best Male Athlete” award. The four nominees are Houston Astros outfielder Jose Altuve, Houston Rockets guard James Harden, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Personally, I think that this award will be given to either Altuve or Ovechkin since their teams actually won the championship in their respective sports this past year. As for choosing a winner, I have to go with Ovechkin. No offense to Altuve but Ovechkin definitely carried a larger portion of the weight in order for his team to succeed. The Astros were a better all-around team and had fellow superstars who were able to assist Altuve in their World Series run while the Capitals relied on Ovechkin to lead the league in postseason goals in order to win the Stanley Cup.

On a sadder note, one award that will be given out with no nominees is the “Jimmy V Award” which will be given to former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. As many people know, Kelly has been battling cancer for several years now and will be honored for his fight against this life-threatening disease. This past week, it was reported that Kelly will need to see a physician for an “unexpected” checkup. Let us hope that he will be able to overcome this ordeal and be granted with a clean bill of health in the near future.

Overall, it does not really matter who wins any given award. The event is focused on highlighting all of the fantastic moments that sports fans around the world had the pleasure of witnessing. Just kick back and relax while the nostalgia does the rest of the work.
