Early Life: 1974-2004

Amy Lou Adams was born on August 20, 1974, in Vicenza, Italy. Adams was the fourth of her seven siblings born to her American parents Kathryn and Richard Kent Adams. Richard was stationed at the Caserma Ederle military base during the time Amy was born. By the time Amy was eight years old the family had finally settled in permanently in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Amy always loved theater and performance, she sang in her Douglas County High School choir and had dreams of becoming a ballerina. Adams even trained as an apprentice at her local dance company. But soon decided the harsh conditions of ballet training weren’t right for her. That’s when she discovered her love of musical theater.

In the 1990’s Adams worked as a dancer at a number of different playhouses and theaters in Colorado and Minnesota. By the end of that experience, Amy landed her first ever film role! She was cast in the comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. Adam’s co-star Kirstie Alley encouraged Amy to move to Los Angeles and begin auditioning for more roles.

From Colorado to Los Angeles: 2005-Present

Once Adam’s made the big move to the city of angels, she made appearances in several small films and guest starred on a few television series. That’s when she was cast in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can as Brenda Strong. Spielberg has said that Amy’s part in this film should’ve skyrocketed her career. But it wasn’t till 2005 when Amy stared in the film Junebug, that she really became a star.

Amy Adams received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and Best Jury Prize for her performance in Junebug when the movie debuted at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. In 2007, Adams was cast in the fantasy musical movie Enchanted. That following year Amy received another Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role as a nun in the 2008 movie Doubt, Which co-starred Meryl Streep. After staring in Julia & Julia alongside Meryl Streep again, Amy Adams had become Hollywood’s It Girl!

Adams continued to take on role after role staring in The Fighter, The Master, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and The Muppets. In 2013, Adams became Lois Lane in the blockbuster movie Superman Man of Steel and the 2016 sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In 2016 Adams also took on the role of an alien communicator in the movie Arrival, and also starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals. In 2017, Adams picked up her reporters badge returning to her role as Lois Lane in the Justice League movie.

It’s been 10 years of epic Marvel movies and Scarlett Johansson has been playing the sultry spy Black Widow for the past 8 years. You’d think she’d have her own film by now, but the first woman to have her name in a title was the wildly lesser known Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly. It comes as no surprise the MCU has been dragging Black Widow along for quite some time. However, where the studio is now in terms of female portrayals, it might be for the best that they waited.

After interviewing over 70 female directors, Feige and the powers that be landed on “The Berlin Syndrome” director Cate Shortland. One thing’s for certain, they’re taking the development of this film pretty seriously. Just like how no one thought Guardians of the Galaxy would have any bearing on the larger stake Marvel films, it’s a testament that when the right people are at the helm and a course has been plotted for the future, anything is possible.

I went back and watched Iron Man and couldn’t believe how flat Gwyneth Paltrow’s one-dimensional Pepper Potts was (which is nothing against the actor) despite her being the first female in the MCU! It seemed like a gross oversight. Now, look at where we are today.

The world is HYPED for Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, the women of Black Panther each had unique and interesting facts about their character and motives that lend itself to the larger universe, even Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp pretty much needed no introduction kicking ass in the first few scenes of Ant-Man and The Wasp without having to go into reasons why being a woman was part of her identity. These newly developed characters have so many more layers that gender seems last on the list to consider when they’re no longer the fawning girlfriend or damsel in need of saving. The new women of Marvel can save themselves.

The film is rumored to take place before many of the events we’ve seen, however, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be another origin story. With Captain Marvel taking place in the 1990’s and the actions of that film directly affecting the events that will ensue in Avengers 4, there’s a solid chance that Black Widow could open doors to new covert threats that still lie dormant.

If Captain Marvel can bring back Agent Coulson and Ronan the Accuser, why can’t Black Widow do a deep dive as well? We know she’s crossed paths with The Winter Soldier before, taking a bullet for his intended target (not exactly meeting on great terms) so that’s a story in and of itself – don’t forget about the Budapest incident she and Hawkeye always talk about!

There’s a lot to cover with Johansson’s film. I for one am glad that Marvel learned how to build well-rounded female leads before taking the chance on this character we’ve already known for so long. If Black Widow does bite the (literal) dust in Avengers 4, this standalone film which would undoubtedly feature other Marvel characters seems like a fitting coda for the super spy.

As if we weren’t already excited enough about the eighth and final season, Hafthór Björnsson — the absolute freak of a human being that portrays “The Mountain” — is teasing something fans of Game Of Thrones have long been waiting for: Cleganebowl.

For the uninitiated, “Cleganebowl” is the nickname given to a potential battle between Sandor and Gregor Clegane, otherwise known as The Hound and The Mountain, respectively.

Now, with the final season of Game Of Thrones looming, Björnsson is hinting that fans will finally get to feast their eyes on an epic clash between two of the show’s strongest characters.

According to Digital Spy, Björnsson was asked about his favorite scene in the series and gave this response: “It happens in season 8… so I can’t speak about it.”

That alone has folks yelling that Cleganebowl has been confirmed and it is definitely on in the final season. It would also support the words of the Hound shared in the season seven finale:

“Remember me?” The Hound asked his now undead brother. “Yeah, you do. You’re even f**king uglier than I am now. What did they do to you?”

“That’s not how it ends for you, brother,” he threatened. “You know who’s coming for you. You’ve always known.”

Game Of Thrones actors — such as Sophie Turner — have been discussing the show more and more over the last few weeks as production on the final season recently wrapped up.

The eighth and final season is expected to premiere sometime during Spring 2019. The season will consist of six episodes and will bring the most successful television show of all-time to a close.

Vernon Unsworth, a British cave diver who was reportedly “instrumental” in rescuing the 12 youth soccer players trapped in a northern Thailand, was called a “pedo” by Elon Musk in a bizarre Twitter rant. As a result of the now-deleted tweet, Unsworth said he is considering legal action after the Tesla-CEO’s attack.

Musk — apparently angry that Unsworth said that his submarine “had absolutely no chance of working” — said in a since-deleted tweet “You know what, don’t bother showing the video. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.”

In response to Musk’s comments, Unsworth told The Guardian that he thinks “people realize what sort of guy [Musk] is.” Furthermore, when asked if he was considering taking legal action, Unsworth told reporters: “Yes, it’s not finished.”

Musk was responding to an interview Unsworth gave on Sunday in which he said a child-sized submarine the Tesla chief executive delivered to the cave site last week “had absolutely no chance of working”.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Musk said he would produce a video proving his submarine would have been able to reach the children and in a comment directed at Unsworth, added: “Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.”

Unsworth, 63, who lives in Thailand, was among the first divers on the scene in Mae Sai after the boys from the Wild Boars football team and their coach became trapped inside on 23 June. Rescuers have said he used his knowledge of the cave system and networks in the cave diving community to marshal a response that was crucial in locating the boys 10 days later, and helping to free them last week.

Unsworth said he had saved copies of Musk’s tweets and believed that the businessman had “lost the plot”, adding: “I have a lot of support from people around the world astonished by his unfounded comments.”

Mark Stephens, a lawyer at Howard Kennedy, called Musk’s actions “a cast iron case of libel” and that Unsworth will “undoubtedly be able to sue.”

Musk has since deleted the tweets and has not responded to a request for comment. As a result of Musk’s comments, Tesla’s share price fell more than 3 percent on Monday, July 16.

What is the Maxwell Award?

According to the official press release, the Maxwell Award is named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, who was not just a player, but a sportswriter and an official as well.

Over the years, the award has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937.

Likewise, the Bednarik Award is presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year, named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, and has been given out since 1995.

If you follow video games, comic books, anime or anything in that realm of pop culture, chances are you’ve heard of Jessica Nigri. She’s probably the world’s most famous cosplayer and is certainly our favorite.

Nigri was born on August 5th, 1989 in Reno, Nevada, and spent most of her childhood growing up in New Zealand, which is her mother’s home country. She eventually moved back to the United States and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona.

She has been cosplaying since 2009 when she gained fame for her portrayal of “Sexy Pikachu” at 2009’s San Diego Comic-Con. In 2011, she modeled for Microsoft and Gamestop as Anya Stroud, a character in the video game franchise Gears Of War.

Since then, she’s become a household name as far as cosplaying is concerned. She won IGN’s cosplaying contest in 2012, for her costume of Juliet Starling, the protagonist of the video game Lollipop Chainsaw. Her Starling costume garnered a little controversy at PAX East in 2012, when she drew complaints that the costume was “too revealing” and she was asked to leave the event. Needless to say, that incident did nothing but continue to boost her profile. She was then hired by various video game studios to portray their characters, including Ubisoft where she dressed up in different costumes from their Assassins Creed franchise.

Even though cosplay is certainly what skyrocketed her into fame, she is also a gamer at heart. She says she grew up playing games, thanks to her father who introduced her to the video game culture. She has also said that she plans to retire from modeling in order to focus on more behind the scenes aspects of the industry.

Theresa Lund, the director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at Harvard University, has publicly apologized after she was filmed confronting Alyson Laliberte — a neighbor whose daughter was playing outside her home. While being filmed, Lund asked Laliberte if she lived “in one of the affordable units.”

Laliberte uploaded the clip of the incident — which happened on Saturday, July 14 — to Facebook, where it has been viewed over one million times at the time of this writing.

Lund has since been dubbed #PermitPatty on social media: a name given to the recent slew of middle-aged white women who have been recorded on camera engaging in similar behavior.

Y’all here is another Permit Patty trying to kick me off my own property because she’s having a hard time getting her kids to take a nap at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. I’m outside enjoying the afternoon with my daughter when this women came downstairs and asked me if I would move so her kids can nap. It was totally discriminating and racist of her.. or maybe it was because my daughter is biracial who knows. I have no idea who this woman is and the fact that she thinks she has some kind of authority over me is crazy! She wanted to know what apartment number I lived at so she can yell outside my window to see if I like it (real mature) as you hear her say in the video. This woman’s house is no bigger than mine even if she lives in one of the apartments that are owned by Harvard.

Despite color, where I live, how much money I have she will be buried 6 feet under just like me… Why do people think they are literally better than others? Why does she think she has a right to make us move? If she really did not want to be disturbed she would own a one family house instead of deciding on moving in to a condominium with a bunch of neighbors. I’ve lived in this complex for 15 years. Not one other person complained about my daughter and I. I have no idea who this woman is but if someone knows her please tag her and share this if you agree!!!!

Lund has since posted an apology on her personal Facebook page saying she was “terribly sorry” about her actions and claims she apologized to Laliberte and her daughter in person.

Of all the celebrity deaths I’ve lived through over the years, Robin Williams‘ hit home the hardest.

He was like a famous Dad for 90’s kids, as his appearances in films such as Dead Poet’s Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Patch Adams, Hook, Good Will Hunting, Aladdin and more were as paternal as any performances of the decade. Simply put, Williams was a second, more famous father to tons of millennials.

Simply put, for anyone born from 1981 to 1996 — otherwise known as millennials — this doc is looking like an absolute must-watch as it celebrates the life of one of the greatest entertainers of our childhood.

Vanity Fair says that the documentary — which features interviews with Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, his first wife, Valerie Velardi, and his oldest son, Zak Williams, — “gives a full portrayal of a complex character.”

Sokratis Kokkalis Jr., the son of a Greek billionaire, was found dead at age 34 this week. According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, Kokkalis was found dead inside of his hotel room with three baggies of cocaine near his body. Kokkalis’ father, Socrates Kokkalis Sr., was the founder of Intracom, a Greek telecommunications company that was previously accused of being a spy for East Germany. It is the largest intracom company in southeaster Europe.

Three bags of cocaine were found in the hotel room of Socrates Kokkalis Jr., according to police reports. It is believed that he died of a suspected overdose. Kokkalios’ father is the chairman of Greek soccer team Olympiacos, while Kokkalis Jr. was the team’s vice president and in charge of business development for the company Intracom.

His premature passing away, on 14/7/2018, left the entire Olympiacos family in mourning for the unexpected loss of our Club’s Vice-president B’.

Kokkalis was on a business trip in Cleveland, Ohio.

A suspect, identified as Emanuel Lopes, is in custody after police after said he attacked a police officer, later identified as Officer Michael Chesna, Sunday morning in Weymouth, Massachusetts, taking his gun and shooting him, before killing an elderly woman by shooting her while she was in her own home.

What happened?

Lopes was identified as the suspect involved in the shootings, which took place near Torrey Street and Burton Terrace in Weymouth, which is south of Boston. According to WCVB-TV, the incident may have been sparked by a car accident, as a driver had fled from the scene of a one-vehicle accident near a local hospital. Officers searched for the driver, who was later located by Chesna.

After exchanging gunfire with officers, Chesna was shot; at this time, it is believed that Lopes took his gun and shot him. Chesna was later rushed to the hospital where he died at the age of 42.

As mentioned, an elderly woman is also believed to have been killed by Lopes. At this time, however, officials have not released her identity to the public. It is believed that the woman was already dead by the time police arrived at the house to help.

Who is Emanuel Lopes?

According to MassLive.com, Lopes was arrested this past October on drug charges. According to  WBZ-TV, he was on pre-trial probation in that case, with an expected court appearance.

According to The Patriot Ledger, he was eventually charged with charged with possession to distribute cocaine to a minor, possession to distribute cocaine and resisting arrest. He was believed to he homeless during this time following the 2017 incident, according to Wicked Local Weymouth.

According to The Herald News, Lopes is a Weymouth native and graduated from Weymouth High School in 2016.

During this most recent incident, Lopes was also shot in the leg and he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, it is believed that he will be charged with two counts of homicide and that he would be arraigned on those charges the Monday following the incident.

Huerta is known as being the first woman to play both for and against the U.S. national team and the Mexican national team.

Huerta, who was born in Boise, Idaho, attended Centennial High School in Boise, where she played soccer, basketball, and ran track. During high school, Huerta was named Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year twice.

Huerta played college soccer at Santa Clara University from 2011 to 2014 as a four-year starter. Huerta was drafted to play for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League on January 16, 2015. She was the eleventh pick in the draft.

During her professional career, Huerta played for the Mexico women’s national football team in 2012–2013, and the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women’s Soccer League from 2015 to 2018.

From 2015 to 2017, she scored 19 goals with nine assists in 63 career NWSL games for the Chicago Red Stars.

Maria Butina, a 29-year-old Russian national with alleged ties to Russian officials, has been charged in federal court in Washington D.C.. Butina was charged with conspiracy to act as an agent of the Russian Federation and is being held without bond.

According to the United States Department of Justice, Butina has been accused of “infiltrating organizations having influence in American politics, for the purpose of advancing the interests of the Russian Federation.”

She was arrested on Sunday, July 15, and was ordered to be held without bond. At this time, a detention hearing and preliminary hearing are set for Wednesday, July 18.

The charges against Butina come days after the Justice Department unveiled an indictment against 12 Russian intelligence officers for allegedly conspiring to hack Democrats in 2016 and just hours after President Trump cast doubt on Russia’s involvement in an extraordinary joint news conference with President Putin.

Butina is accused of developing relationships with American politicians and a “gun rights organization,” none of which are named in the affidavit supporting the criminal complaint. FBI Special Agent Kevin Helson wrote that Butina was attempting to “establish a ‘back channel’ communication for representatives of the Government of Russia.”

The affidavit also contains apparent communications, by direct message on Twitter, between Butina and the unnamed Russian official. “Your political star has risen in the sky,” the official told Butina. “Now it is important to rise to the zenith and not burn out (fall) prematurely,” and they later discussed the “Russia-USA friendship society.”

Butina has ties to the NRA, as she has met former NRA Presidents David Keene and Wayne LaPierre.

If found guilty, Butina faces up to 5 years in prison. At this time, it is not clear if Butina has hired an attorney.

The Justice Department’s press release says that the “investigation into this matter was conducted by the FBI’s Washington Field Office. The case is being prosecuted by the National Security Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.”

Speaking to Storyful, Go Pro owner Daniel Brown said that his five-year-old German Shepherd, Koby, “got hold of his action camera that was attached to a rod” and wouldn’t give it back.

“The chase lasted a good 20 minutes before I caught him,” Brown said.

At long last, the MLB All-Star Break is upon us which means that it is time for the league’s best to showcase their abilities against one another. One such event is the MLB Home Run Derby where the league’s best power hitters are able to destroy baseballs for the amusement of screaming fans all over the world. Unlike most years, this year’s field is full of young first-time participants which should lead to a very interesting competition.

The favorite to win this contest is Washington Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper. Harper is one of the league’s best players and has the ability to hit tons of home runs each season. This season, Harper has already hit 23 home runs which explains why he feels so comfortable participating in this type of competition. However, Harper also has a huge home-field advantage in this competition since it is being held in the stadium that Harper plays in over 80 times per season. With the bright lights on, expect Harper to put on a show for his home crowd.

Jesus Aguilar is the other one seed in this competition. However, unlike Harper, he completely burst onto the scene this past season to the surprise of many. So far this season, Aguilar has hit 24 home runs with 70 runs batted in along with a .298 batting average. It is not farfetched to claim that Aguilar has a chance to win the NL MVP award by season’s end. However, Aguilar has struggled in his limited appearances at Nationals Park. In the last three seasons, Aguilar is hitless in six plate appearances at Nationals Park which might be a bad omen for tonight’s competition.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Harper. Despite having a terrible batting average, Harper definitely has the greatest incentive to win this competition due to the home-field advantage. Harper is the only contestant to have previously participated in a Home Run Derby and the added experience should help him lift the crown this Monday night.
