The win is the fourth largest jackpot in the 21-year history of the Mega Millions, also the second largest jackpot won by a single ticket. In fact, the historic win came out just one day before a record $559 million Powerball drawing, whose winner has not come forward yet.

Who is Shane Missler?

A New England native of Maine, Missler is a 20-year-old living in Port Richey, Florida. Before his big win, he was a Verifications Specialist at Universal Background Screening, Inc. and previously attended college in Massachusetts. He reportedly quit his job thanks to his winnings.

As mentioned, Missler bought the lucky ticket using the money he just won from a scratch-off ticket at a 7-Eleven store in Pasco County, Florida. The winning quick-pick Mega Millions ticket was actually one of five.

Missler originally announced his good fortune to the world on Facebook, with a post simply reading, “Oh. My. God.” On Daily Mail, he gave a statement explaining just how he intends to spend his winnings:

“I’m only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family and do some good for humanity.”

Although I’m young I’ve had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me.

I intend to take care of my family, have some fun along the way and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future.

If there is one thing I have learned thus far in my short time on this earth it is that those who maintain a positive mindset and stay true to themselves get rewarded.”

Reportedly, he will take a lump sum payout of $281.2 million.

He is an avid New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan, with one of his favorite players being Tom Brady. Methinks Brady should try to make friends with the new millionaire; there’s a lot of presents in waiting.

With conference play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two ranked opponents in the Big 12. These teams are the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. According to the AP poll, both teams are ranked in the top ten which should result in an extremely competitive basketball game. Last season, the Red Raiders won the only meeting at home against West Virginia in a thrilling 77-76 overtime game. Now, West Virginia will be seeking revenge and will be looking for a quality win to add to its resume. Expect this game to be extremely competitive throughout as a result.

The West Virginia Mountaineers entered the season with the hopes of being national championship contenders. Last season, they lost a heartbreaker in the Sweet 16 to Gonzaga. However, the Mountaineers retained the core from last year’s roster and are expected to make a serious run in the NCAA tournament this season. The Mountaineers are currently ranked number two in the country and have won 15 of their first 16 games this season. This team is extremely experienced and should be ready for this tough road game on Saturday.

West Virginia’s success is due to its extremely talented backcourt. Guards like Jevon Carter, James Bolden and Lamont West all decided to return this season which gives West Virginia one of the best backcourts in all of college basketball. Carter is currently averaging 16.1 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists. Bolden is averaging 10.4 points per game along with 2.5 rebounds per game in just about 18 minutes per game. West is averaging 12.9 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds. All three of them know what it takes to win these conference road games so one can expect them all to play well on Saturday.

Texas Tech’s success is due to its elite defense. This season, Texas Tech is allowing 60.2 points per game which is the fifth-fewest in all of college basketball this season. The Red Raiders also average the ninth-most steals per game with 9.0 and use constant pressure to keep their opponents off-guard.   This combo gives the Red Raiders one of the best defenses in all of college basketball which should be able to limit West Virginia’s offense on Saturday.

As for my prediction, I have to side with West Virginia. The Mountaineers are the better and more experienced team and are in better form than the Red Raiders at this point in time. Texas Tech is coming into this game off of a loss and I do not think that their team is as good as advertised. I expect West Virginia’s veteran guards to play well as the Mountaineers sneak away with a victory.

Leicester City vs. Chelsea for so many years was looked at as just another day, but after last year that is no longer. Leicester is 1-2-2 in their last 5 games but are looking to turn that all around. They’re going to need all hands on deck if they want to beat Chelsea. When a team overachieves it usually is very difficult to repeat success and Leicester are learning the hard way that success doesn’t come as easy. They currently sit in 8th place with 30 points, that is 32 points off Man City for 1st and they’re 16 points behind Chelsea. Hopefully, Vardy can give them the spark they need.

Chelsea has one thing on its mind and that is a Premier League Title. They have a lot of work to do if they’re going to catch up to Man City and it starts with Leicester. Chelsea spent a ton of money this offseason to bring in huge names like David Luiz. Chelsea is led by Álvaro Morata who has 10 goals on the season but they’re hoping that changes with Eden Hazard returning from injury. The real rock of Chelsea is their goaltender Thibaut Courtois, he has only allowed 16 goals on 210 shots and has a Goals Against Average of 0.73 goals per game.  Chelsea is looking to blow the doors off Leicester and continue their ascent.

It’s always a fierce battle when interstate rivals Michigan and Michigan St. square off. He will have to bang the boards with the big boys on Michigan St. and help stretch the floor on offense of Michigan wants to have any shot of winning this game.

Michigan St. (16-2) is back to their winning ways after almost losing at home to Rutgers! It took overtime for the Spartans to knock off those pesky Scarlet Knights but regardless they came away victorious. Tom Izzo once again has his team inside the Top 10 and eyeing a championship this year. The Spartans are loaded with veteran talent but none better than Sophomore guard Miles Bridges. Bridges leads the team with 16.5 ppg and is 2nd on the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. Michigan St. is going to try and snap out of this funk by laying the beat down on this well coached tough Michigan team. I think the deciding factor will be how the benches play for either team, if the spartans bench can dominate like they have all season I see no reason why they should lose this game.

The Raiders have a 14-2 record with their only losses coming early in the year to Seton Hall and just a few days ago a 10 point loss to Oklahoma. Texas Tech has three wins already over ranked opponents such as Kansas, Baylor and North Western. Texas Tech will rely heavily on veteran guard Keenan Evans who leads them with 17.3 points, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Evans will be in for a long night with Carter and Miller Jr. suffocating him all night. If Texas Tech wants to win someone else is going to have to step up and help Evans out with the scoring because WVU isn’t going to allow him to beat them

The 18th ranked Miami Hurricanes head over to South Carolina to take on the 19th ranked Clemson Tigers in an ACC battle of top 25 opponents. Brian Hawkins, a Northern California man, admitted to a 1993 killing in a television interview, citing the influence of his faith.

As he explained on KRCR of Redding, Hawkins detailed that he and two accessories, identified as Curtis Culver and Shanna Culver, a brother and sister pair, robbed and killed a young man named Frank Wesley McAlister, the victim of a decades-old, unsolved murder.

As Hawkins explained to officials, McAlister was stabbed to death and his remains were dumped in the forest area of Shasta County; a hiker eventually came across McAlister’s body a year later.

In 1997, a man named Michael Vielbig, who was the suspect in the high profile murder of a woman named Christine Munro, made a similar confession but investigators could not find a connection. Hawkins’ confession is believed to be the biggest break in the case since.

Who Is Brian Hawkins?

Hawkins is 44 years old and is a resident of Shingletown, Northern California.

Redding police believe that the murder was motivated by money, specifically, money McAlister obtained from a settlement; the three are believed to have lured McAlister to Shingletown under the pretense of selling him methamphetamine, instead robbing him. His car had been abandoned at a Costco.

While appearing on television, Hawkins explained that his faith inspired him to confess to the murder:

“God and Christ and these things that have happened over the course of 25 years have pushed me and pushed me to do the right thing. I know the wrong can’t be changed but this is the closest I can come to doing the right thing.

Horrible, horrible, horrible, absolute horror, absolutely horrible since that day. Every minute of every day has been a nightmare. It’s kind of weird, Frank never got to have a life, but we were teenagers and now I’m 44 and still haven’t even had a life and now most likely won’t anyway.”

Hawkins reportedly came into contact with McAlister’s family around a year ago, asking for their forgiveness:

“I talked to them several times and told them I was going to make it there so I could tell them what happened and I wanted their forgiveness. By the time I got there, his father had passed away.”

After making the televised confession, Hawkins turned himself into Shasta County Sheriff to meet with police investigators; since then, Hawkins and the two Culvers have been arrested for charges related to McAlister’s death, including burglary. Of the three, the men are each being held on $1 million bails, although Shanna Culver is being held without bail.

Two Utah men have been arrested for conducting secret child-bride marriages, with victims as young as 4 years of age.

The two men formed a religious group called the Knights of the Crystal Blade and developed a remote compound from shipping containers in southern Utah. It is believed that each man was married to two underage girls, one of whom was related to them, as confirmed by prosecutor Kevin Daniels.

Coltharp, who is 33 years of age, was charged this week with child sodomy after police found four girls who were hidden on the compound during a raid; reportedly, some of the girls were hidden in 50-gallon plastic water barrels. Similar charges are coming against Shaffer. Both men were also charged last month with child kidnapping. Authorities are still investigating the full extent of abuse on the compound.

Who are John Coltharp & Samuel Shaffer?

Shaffer and Coltharp are believed to be friends who bonded over a shared interest in Mormon concepts that have been rejected by the mainstream church, claims police.

The child marriages are believed to have taken place in the summer of 2017. According to Time, prosecutor Kevin Daniels said:

“They were actively recruiting; they wanted to build this group up.

These are extreme individuals with extreme beliefs that believe the end of the world is coming…[Police] prevented those little girls from dying … or repeating a Waco-style shootout.”

Police instigated the raid after being contacted by the mother of two girls and two boys who had been kidnapped and were held in the compound. The two boys were found in the makeshift compound and the girls were later found hidden in the barrels and a trailer in the area; police originally had problems finding the girls, but they were eventually given their location during a confession. After being rescued, the two girls were tested for the effects of cold and dehydration but are said to be recovering.

Attorneys for the two men have not currently released a statement over the arrest.

When the Tar Heels and the Fighting Irish get together it’s always a classic! These two teams have been frequent of late March both making nice runs in the tournament over the past few years, including UNC winning it all last year. North Carolina looks a lot different this year after graduating a lot of talent last year, meanwhile, ND comes limping into this one after their best player, Bonzie Collins, suffered an injury about a week ago.

The #20 North Carolina Tar Heels (13-4) are lead by the former walk-on and National Title Game hero Luke Maye. Maye who is still only a junior leads the Tar Heels with 18.6 points per game and 10.8 rebounds. North Carolina doesn’t have nearly as much talent as they did last year when they won the National Title, but they do have enough veteran leaders where they should still make some noise come tourney time! Between Maye and senior guard Joel Berry II the Tar Heels should breeze past the Bonzie-less Irish.

Notre Dame(13-4) has had a roller coaster of a season with highs like beating #6 Wichita St. and Syracuse but then having losses to Michigan St. and Ball St. The biggest loss comes in Bonzie Collins who is out indefinitely with a foot injury. This loss is s huge because Bonzie is not only the teams leader in Points, Rebounds, Steals, and Blocks but he is their emotional leader as well. Without Bonzie Notre Dame has been searching for a new centerpiece to their offense. They will look to Senior guard Matt Farrell, who is second on the team with 15.9 ppg and leads the Irish with over 5 assists per game, to make up for the scoring loss of Bonzie.

Hawaiians residents were sent an alert of an imminent missile attack that was later found to be a false alarm, sent out because of a “wrong button” being pushed.

According to ABC News, Hawaii House Speaker Scott Saiki gave out the following statement:

“This system we have been told to rely upon failed and failed miserably today…I am deeply troubled by this misstep that could have had dire consequences.”

“Apparently, the wrong button was pushed and it took over 30 minutes for a correction to be announced. Parents and children panicked during those 30 minutes.”

The alert was sent to people’s mobile phones at about 8:08 A.M. local time, reading, in caps, “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”

Shortly after, it was confirmed by U.S. Pacific Command spokesman Dave Benham that no threat was detected:

“Earlier message was sent in error. State of Hawaii will send out a correction message as soon as possible.”

Correction messages were later sent to phones reading the following message:

“There is no missile threat or danger to the State of Hawaii.”

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, released a message on social media saying that the FCC has launched a full investigation into the false alarm.

The New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans are facing off against each other this Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

The Titans will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2008, but they’ve most recently won a 22-21 victory in their Wild Card round with the Chiefs.

The winner will face the Jacksonville Jaguars or Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday, January 21, which will take place at 3:05 p.m. in the AFC Championship Game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet together at Heinz Field for a Sunday game and we have all that you need to watch it live!

The Jaguars managed to win against the Bills in the Wild Card round and they already won against the Steelers earlier in the season in a five-interception game. In their corner, they also have Leonard Fournette on offense. For their part, the Steelers have Antonia Brown as part of their team. given that the man already won the AFC Offensive Player of the Year, he’s certainly a card to play!

Whoever wins will face either the New England Patriots or the Tennessee Titans, depending on who wins their Saturday game.

The second round of the NFL Playoffs is set to begin and it is full of action!! No game is better than the last one on the slate! When the Saints travel to play the Vikings you better stop what you’re doing and watch this game. Drew Brees is looking to win his 2nd Super Bowl but he’s going to have to get by Case Keenum and the ruthless Vikings. This game features two teams that are so similar in the way they win football games, It will truly be a survival of the fittest.

The New Orleans Saints come in off a hard fought win over their division rival Carolina Panthers. The Saints led that one wire to wire but their defense was forced to stop a driving Cam Newton at the very end of the game to escape with the victory. If there’s one thing you can say about the Saints it might be that their biggest contributors are rookies, and they might not play as well on the road. It’s not very often that you see a playoff team’s spark plugs both be rookies, Marshawn Lattimore is that for the defense meanwhile Alvin Kamara really gets the offense going. If the Saints want to avenge their Week 1 loss to the Vikings they will have to give the Vikings a heavy dose of Ingram and Kamara. I don’t see them being able to get the big play against the Vikings like they did against the Panthers.

The Minnesota Vikings surprised everyone by securing the #2 seed in the NFC after their starting QB Sam Bradford went down with an injury (again). With Teddy Bridgewater still rehabbing from his own knee injury, the Vikings had no other choice than to turn to the Case Keenum to lead them to victory! Case came out firing! He did more than could have ever been asked, so much so that when Teddy was healthy again they stuck with Case. Now the Vikings find themselves in perfect position to play the first home super bowl! The Vikings will continue to rely on Latavious Murray and Jerrick McKinnon and that terrific defense to carry them to victory.

Firefighters are at the scene of a 3 story structure fire at 15 West Main Street in Falconer, New York.

Breaking out on Sunday, January 14th, 2018, multiple people were reported to be rescued from the building. Social media later clarified that 11 people were rescued.

As there had been a partial collapse of the building, the interior had also been pulled after the stairway had collapsed.
