Dennis Rodman is a well-known basketball player with a career that spanned decades, having been on various teams, although, admittedly, you can argue that he became more well known after finishing his NBA career, with various media appearances. Interestingly enough, he got his big shot in life while something of a late bloomer!

More on that later; for now, let’s take a look at his net worth!

Dennis Rodman’s 2018 Net Worth: $1 Million

Rodman’s net worth is currently $1 million, with him playing on various teams, like Detroit Pistons, the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls, before becoming something of a celebrity, even getting to have a surprising friendship with a certain leader, not to give too much away.

The Early Years

A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Rodman attended South Oak Cliff High School. where he was coached by future Texas A&M basketball coach Gary Blair. Originally finding work as an overnight janitor after finishing school, a growth spurt inspired him to turn to professional basketball. 1986-1993

San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office

Heather Butts, a former middle school teacher from California, has been sentenced to four months county jail after she was charged for having a sexual relationship with her 15-year-old student.

According to reports, Butts, a 42-year-old from Millbrae, California who was teaching drama at Taylor Middle School, pleaded no contest to a felony count of lewd acts with a minor. Butts pleaded in October, more than a year after she was spotted kissing the 15-year-old female student inside a white van parked near an elementary school.

The plea deal states that prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second felony charger and a misdemeanor charge of violating a no-contact order. In addition to the jail time, Butts also will be required to register as a sex offender and is prohibited from being in the presence of minors.

via Mercury News:

San Bruno police opened an investigation in August 2016 after receiving an anonymous tip that a woman and a girl were kissing inside a van near Lomita Park Elementary School in San Bruno. Officers found Butts alone in the van and the girl nearby. The girl was identified as a 15-year-old Mills High School student and a former pupil of Butts’ at Taylor Middle School in Millbrae.

Prosecutors said the girl initially denied anything inappropriate had occurred, but later admitted that she and Butts were in love and had been kissing. Explicit text messages on the girl’s phone also revealed an ongoing relationship, prosecutors said.

The investigation also reportedly revealed earlier sexual conduct between Butts and the victim in October 2015.

In addition to the jail time and registering as a sex offender, Buuts will serve three years of supervised probation.

Duke Blue Devils vs. Miami Hurricane Live Stream: How to Watch Online

0

This ACC Matchup will be full of huge shots, big defensive stands, and a whole lot of emotion! Duke is the 7th ranked team in the country and has rolled to back-to-back wins since losing to NC State. Miami on the other end is trying to put an end to the stumble they’ve been on lately losing 2 out of their last three games. Miami is still the ranked 18th, but all that can change based on what happens against Duke tonight!

Duke (15-2) has beaten some really good teams so far, and they’ve lost a couple of games to teams they shouldn’t have lost too. Their last loss was on January 6th in a crushing 96-85 loss to NC State. Since then Duke beat Pitt by 35 and Wake Forest by 17. The Blue Devils will look to keep the beat downs rolling as they cruise into Miami to take on the struggling Hurricane. If Duke overlooks Miami then they might be in trouble, Miami plays well at home and will be coming off a loss. Duke has all the advantages regarding talent with the veteran guard play of the baby-faced assassin aka Grayson Allen and the youthful big man Marvin Bagley III who has been a force to be reckoned with and probably the #1 pick in next years NBA Draft. Coach K won’t let his team take this game off and will have them ready to dissipate the Hurricanes on their home floor also sending a message to the rest of the ACC that Duke isn’t messing around anymore.

The Miami Hurricanes have had an up and down season but are fortunate enough to still boasting a 13-3 record despite losing 2 of their last 3. Miami has only played two ranked teams, beating Florida State 80-74 at home and then lost 72-63 at Clemson just two days ago. Miami also has a win over a very underrated Middle Tennessee team that will end up being a name we hear a lot in March. Miami is led by sophomore guard Bruce Brown Jr. he is second on the team with 11.3 ppg and leads the team in assists, rebounds and steals per game. If Bruce Brown can go shot for shot with Grayson Allen and the rest of the Hurricanes step up to play D and try and neutralize Bagley they might have a fighting chance.

Dolores O’Riordan Dead: The Cranberries Lead Singer Cause Of Death

Dolores O’Riordan, the lead singer of the Irish band The Cranberries, has died at the age of 46-years-old.

The Cranberries were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland, in 1989 by O’Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. The band enjoyed almost 15 years of international success before going on hiatus in 2003. In 2009, after a six-year hiatus, the band reunited and began touring again. The band recorded their sixth album “Roses” and released it in February 2012.

O’Riordan’s publicist confirmed the news of her death on Monday, January 15. O’Riordan was in London for a recording session at the time of her death. The Limmerick Leader, a newspaper in O’Riordan’s hometown, was the first to publish the news of the singer’s death.

via The Limmerick Leader:

A spokesperson who represented the singer confirmed to the Leader: “Irish and international singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London today. She was 46 years old. The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries, was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time. ”

“My heart goes out to the family. Dolores was their pride and joy. We all loved her very, very much,” said family friend Canon Liam McNamara.

“She got on well all the way through her life. I was very disappointed to hear today that she has left us so early in life. Her family did so much for her and supported her all the way through,” added the priest, who was a co-celebrant at Dolores’ wedding to tour manager of rock band Duran Duran, Don Burton in Holycross Abbey in County Tipperary in 1994 and also officiated at the funeral Mass of Dolores’ father Terry in Ballybricken in 2011, confirmed to the Limerick Leader.

Aside from her career with The Cranberries, O’Riordan’s solo album “Are You Listening?” was released in May 2007. Her second solo album, No Baggage, was released in 2009.

In May of last year, Dolores declared that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her publicist did not release any details about the cause of her death with the initial announcement.

Dolores O’Riordan Cause Of Death: Unknown

O’Riordan was found dead in a London hotel at the age of 46, however, her cause of death is unknown at this time.

About The Cranberries

In 1989, brothers Mike and Noel Hogan formed the band, originally called The Cranberry Saw Us with drummer Fergal Lawler and singer Niall Quinn, in Limerick, Ireland. Within a year, Quinn left the band, which caused the remaining band members to run advertisements for a female singer. O’Riordan responded to the advertisement and auditioned by writing lyrics and melodies to some existing demos. When she returned with a rough version of “Linger”, she was hired as the lead singer.  The band then recorded a three-track EP titled Nothing Left At All under the name “The Cranberries”.

O’Riordan’s band, The Cranberries, are perhaps best known for their song “Linger” which was featured prominently in the 2006 Adam Sandler comedy Click.

Tennessee Titans New Head Coach: Top Options After Mularkey

0
0

The Tennessee Titans shocked the world when they came back from down 21-3 at halftime to defeat the Chiefs 22-21 in regulation during the first round the of NFL Playoffs. With Marcus Mariota learning that he can just catch his own passes and Derrick Henry finding himself with over 150 yards in that game as well. The season ended as most do, in Foxboro. The Titans were just completely over matched against the Patriots and they knew if they were ever going to contend they were going to have to make a change. So on the morning of January 15th Mike Mularkey and the Tennessee Titans agreed to “mutually” part ways. I say “mutually” because what coach would voluntarily leave a playoff team!? But regardless of who wanted to leave the Titans are looking for a new head coach and have already zeroed in on a few targets.

Josh McDaniels: Patriots Offensive Coordinator

Josh McDaniels seems to be at the top of everyone’s list now that Matt Patricia has signed on to be the Lions HC. McDaniels has spoken openly about how he won’t go anywhere until he will be guaranteed control of the personnel. I think the Titans would jump at the chance to add an offensive mind such as his to a group stacked with talent with players such as the guys mentioned up top, Corey Davis, Delanie Walker and one of the top O-lines in the league. I believe the Titans are willing to give McDaniels the control he’s looking for and he is the perfect guy to give them the spark they need to turn into a serious contender. With Josh McDaniels at the top of everyone’s list let’s see if the Titans can pull the trigger before so many other teams interested in his services.

Pat Shurmer: Vikings Offensive Coordinator

All that needs to be said is look what this man did with Case Keenum! Some credit goes to Case obviously but time in time out Shurmer has called great games allowing Keenum to feel comfortable in the games and allowing him to flourish. Shurmer is a great offensive coach, he’s turned Jerrick McKinnon and Latavioius Murray into one of the most dangerous backfields in football imagine what he’ll do with Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry. With Shurmer in the running for the Giants and many other teams HC job, if the Titans miss out on McDaniels it wouldn’t be surprising to see them sign Shurmer that same day and not let themselves miss out on a great coach.

Steve Wilks: Panthers Defensive Coordinator

Steve Wilks is one of the best defensive minds in the game, and if you don’t know his name, you should learn it. Wilks has been apart of a lot of great defensive staffs and has had top 5 defenses everywhere he has coached especially in the secondaries. The Titans were one of the best run stuffing teams in the league ranking inside the top 10 in most major categories. With the proven abilities to stop the run and a mind like Wilks increasing the skills of a young secondary that defense could become one of the better units in the league. The Titans have all the pieces for Wilks to bring in a veteran OC to help manage the duties of play calling and really run with this talented offense. I can see the Cardinals going after Wilks just as hard if not harder so the Titans will have to pounce on him soon if they decide he’s the guy.

“But you see, it’s not me
It’s not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying” – The Cranberries, “Zombie”

For the most part, the top-ranked teams in college basketball avoided shocking upsets this past week. While some top-ten opponents did face off with each other, the respective losers were not affected in any real detrimental way as they were most often able to bounce back against their subsequent opponent. The only notable ranked program that suffered one devastating defeat after another was the TCU Horned Frogs. Losing in two overtime contests this past week to both Texas and Oklahoma, TCU was exposed as being a dreadful defensive team that was unable to overcome their blatant deficiencies despite scoring point totals of 98 and 97 respectively in their last two matchups. This is just one of several sob stories in college basketball that have seen once elite programs succumb to their Busch league weaknesses during a crucial time in conference play.

Regardless how flawless or flawed a program may look from game-to-game there is only one thing that truly matters in the grand scheme of college basketball competition: continue to win. While the Wildcats defense has been susceptible to breakdowns against tenacious opponents (69.6 PAPG), their potent and deep offense has rarely wavered, an aspect that is supremely difficult to maintain against reputable opposition every week. While their hold on the top spot is tenuous, they have the playmakers and coaching to remain a top-five program throughout the season.

2. Virginia Cavaliers

Despite scoring just over 70 points per game, the Cavaliers have never waivered defensively and have man-handled both the highly competitive and cupcake opponents on their schedule. They may not be perfect, but the Cavaliers are clearly comfortable with who they are and have effectively played to their strengths during their 8-game winning streak.

3. Purdue Boilermakers

Slowly but surely, the Boilermakers have ascended through both the national and conference standings to become one of the most dynamically dominant programs in college basketball. Riding high on a 13-game winning streak, the Boilermakers are moving at full speed ahead and will most likely continue to crush their conference opponents until someone can find any type of weaknesses that they may have.

4. Duke Blue Devils

Finally, the Duke Blue Devils realized that they needed to play decent defense in order to effectively and comfortably defeat some of the average opponents within their conference. While their recent dominant victories over both Pittsburgh and Wake Forest can hardly be considered an endorsement for them having an improved defense, they certainly have the consummate athletes needed to become a dynamic force to reckon with in college basketball.

5. Oklahoma Sooners

Like it or not, the Sooners are committed to outshooting their opponents while relying on superstar Trae Young to snatch the occasional steal. Yet, in spite of their poor defense, the Sooners have defeated five of the six ranked opponents they have encountered this season, suggesting that their trigger happy ways are here to stay rather than being something that will inevitably drop off as the season progresses.

6. Wichita State Shockers

Utilizing their impressive versatility on offense to overwhelm their respective opponents, the Shockers have rarely been in dire situations against their respective conference opponents thus far. Although their offense has been a bit inconsistent recently, they have the luxury of being well-disciplined and tenacious when it comes to seeking out and garnering extra opportunities on offense.

7. West Virginia Mountaineers

Aside from their most recent loss to an elite defense in the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Mountaineers have been one of the most consistent and well-rounded programs in college basketball. With three of their next four opponents being ranked in the top-25, the Mountaineers could easily move back into the top-five and assert themselves as being one of the few elite programs in college basketball.

8. Michigan State Spartans

Losing two of their last three games to unranked conference opponents, the once nearly flawless Spartans have looked anything but perfect as both their defense and offense have looked anemic recently (have scored under 80 points and given up over 70 points in their last three games). Certainly, you would expect the highly-talented and well-coached Spartans to bounce back, but this program needs to avoid complacency if they hope to get back on track this week.

9. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Although getting shut down by what is typically a horrible defense in the Oklahoma Sooners was not ideal, the Red Raiders stuck to their guns and won a nail-biter against the red-hot West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Saturday. While their offense could do slightly more to help them avoid heart-palpitating situations, the Red Raiders have proven time and again that their disciplined and rock-solid defense is usually enough to help them defeat top-tier opponents (60.8 PAPG).

10. Kansas Jayhawks

Although the sample size is not nearly big enough to suggest that the Jayhawks have a competent defense, they have at least proven that they can stifle some of the lesser opponents within their conference and avoid head-scratching upset losses (held their last two opponents to under 80 total points). With the oppressive and relentless West Virginia Mountaineers coming up next, the now confident Jayhawks will get a grand opportunity to sky-rocket upward through the Big 12 standings.

11. Cincinnati Bearcats

Undefeated in the American Athletic Conference, the well-rounded Bearcats barely trail Wichita State in the standings as the best team in the conference. Although their victories are rarely pretty, the Bearcats take an immense amount of pride in their physical defense that can also rebound the ball effectively regardless of who they face on a game-to-game basis (58.4 PAPG, 40.1 RPG).

12. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Sadly, Gonzaga is a fantastic shooting and rebounding program that will never get the rightful credit they deserve as they play in the relatively weak West Coast Conference. With that being said, the Bulldogs could easily vault themselves back into the top-10 with an impressive win over their arch-rivals in Saint Mary’s this week.

13. Arizona Wildcats

While it is unreasonable to expect the Wildcats to be anything more than an average defensive team (72.2 PAPG), it is fair to assume that Arizona is more than capable of outscoring their opponents on a regular basis (82.9 PPG). Considering they play in the weakest power five conference in the Pac-12, the Wildcats should be able to overcome the majority of their opponents to eventually claim a favorable seed in the NCAA Tournament.

14. Xavier Musketeers

Like many of the programs in college basketball that are heavily reliant on a sharp-shooting offense to carry them, the Musketeers have hit a less than ideal speed-bump as they were blown out by the top-ranked Wildcats last week. However, Xavier did not become discouraged by the aforementioned loss as they handily defeated Creighton on Saturday to keep themselves amongst the reputable opponents of their conference.

15. Arizona State Sun Devils

Nearing the precipice of becoming a predictable and less than impressive Pac-12 program, the persistent Sun Devils valiantly held off the Oregon State Beavers in a defensive grudge match in their latest victory. However, the perimeter shooters of Arizona State are not proficient on defense and will need to rediscover their deadly accurate shooting ways if they hope to climb back through the conference standings and ultimately reclaim the throne as being the best team in the Pac-12.

16. North Carolina Tar Heels

After losing back-to-back contests against two ranked ACC opponents a couple of weeks ago, the persistent and offensively potent Tar Heels were able to garner two victories over the middle of the pack conference opponents. While the shooters for the Tar Heels are still struggling to string together a series of impressive performances, their defense has been noticeably better as of late as they have held their last three opponents to under 70 points.

17. Seton Hall Pirates

Unsurprisingly, the unpredictable Pirates have at times looked phenomenal to dreadful on defense and have looked equally inconsistent on offense as well. With that being said, the Pirates lack of a competitive identity has actually helped them defeat all but one of their conference opponents thus far and, as result, they are currently nipping at the heels of Villanova as the best program in the Big East.

18. Auburn Tigers

Despite a wildly inconsistent defense (72.6 PAPG), the Tigers have done more than enough on offense to win all but one of their games this season (86.5 PPG, have scored under 80 points only once in their last seven games). While they may not be the most athletic or physically intimidating program in college basketball, they at least have the scrappy shooters to help them remain competitive in the SEC.

19. Kentucky Wildcats

Despite their inconsistencies when it comes to being mentally tough and tenacious, the waffling Wildcats actually possess a very capable defense (69.6 PAPG, have allowed just one opponent to score more than 75 points in their last six games). With that being said, Kentucky needs to be more advantageous when it comes to utilizing their length and speed in pursuing the basket in transition (have not scored more than 75 points in a game since December 29th against Louisville).

20. Tennessee Volunteers

In a competitively jam-packed SEC Conference, the Volunteers have been able to survive and win in close games valiantly thanks to an explosive albeit streaky offense (79.6 PPG). Defensively, Tennessee has the potential to be very good to great, they just have to prove that they can hold off more of the trigger-happy offenses within their own conference (70.3 PAPG).

21. Clemson Tigers

Similar to Miami, the Tigers are at their best when it comes to stifling opponents with their shutdown defense (64.4 PAPG) while taking high percentage shots on offense (48.2 FG%). Yet, Clemson needs to be a bit more tenacious and ruthless when it comes to shooting the ball and driving to the basket if they hope to rise through the rankings to become one of the surprise success stories in college basketball (have not scored more than 80 points in a game since December 22nd).

22. Miami Hurricanes

Defensively, the Hurricanes have been phenomenal at minimizing offensive opportunities for their respective opponents (60.7 PAPG). However, Miami’s below average offense has cost them key games against ranked ACC opponents ( 73.1 PPG; see the loss to Clemson). Still, Miami has the disciplined athletes and elite coaching necessary to be a top-tier team in their conference.

23. Ohio State Buckeyes

Undefeated in the Big 10 (6-0), the surging Buckeyes have quietly won five games in a row with their most notable win being over a top-ranked Michigan State program. Assuming the Buckeyes defense can continue to be this efficient going forward (67.2 PAPG, have held their last five opponents to under 70 total points) they could be a serious threat to both Michigan and Michigan State at the top of the Big 10 standings.

24. TCU Horned Frogs

Losing four of their last five games to Big 12 opponents (1-4 in conference play), the Horned Frogs dreadful defense is starting to bog down what is typically a high-octane and efficient offense (88.2 PPG, 78.1 PAPG). If this program has serious aspirations of staying relevant in a highly competitive and deep Big 12 Conference, they at least need to become adequate on the defensive end of the court.

25. Florida State Seminoles

Despite their noticeable issues when it comes to being consistently competitive (2-2 in their four games), the Seminoles have a potent enough offense that is more than capable of winning games when they score 80+ points per game. Although Florida State’s less than impressive defense will cost them some winnable games in the ACC (70.6 PAPG), this program has enough notable shooters to stay afloat in their top-heavy conference.

The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, known as PIKE, that was suspended at the University of Houston until 2023 has been indicted by a grand jury. The disgraced fraternity was indicted for the alleged cruel treatment of pledges.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office clarifies the misdemeanor indictment is for the fraternity as a group, not for one specific individual.

According to reports, the hazing incident in question was reported over three nights to stretch during November 2016. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office alleged that the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, also known as PIKE, caused their pledges to be “weakened physically, and broken down mentally.”

“Brotherhood and collegiate good times should be safe and hazing is not,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a written statement. “It is also illegal and that should be recognized by the dozens of fraternities and sororities on college campuses all over the Houston area.”

Furthermore, the DA office alleged that the fraternity to force pledges to roll around in their own waste.

via ABC:

The fraternity made the pledge roll around in vomit, spit and feces, as well as going without food, drink and sleep, prosecutors claim.

Prosecutors added the pledge reportedly took part in a game of tag that involved a frat member tackling him. The pledge was hospitalized with a lacerate spleen.

“Brotherhood and collegiate good times should be safe and hazing is not,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “It is also illegal and that should be recognized by the dozens of fraternities and sororities on college campuses all over the Houston area.”

Pi Kappa Alpha faces a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.

The indictment comes at a time when large universities are undergoing major Greek life overhaul, as schools such as joining the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have recently suspended Greek Life.

At this point, it is abundantly clear that the Big 12 is the deepest and most competitive conference in college basketball. While the top-heavy ACC and the underrated Big 10 both possess intriguing programs that are on the rise, they have yet to establish themselves as competitively diverse conferences that are rife with notable programs from top to bottom. However, this is not to say that college basketball is devoid of eclectic parity that is typically expected from this wildly unpredictable sport. In fact, two Big 10 teams in Michigan and Ohio State just broke into the top-25 rankings this week, suggesting that college basketball still has a lot more to offer in terms of revealing who the elite and pretender programs are this season. With roughly two months to go until the end of the regular season, the beloved insanity that is college basketball has yet to fully blossom into the hectic yet enjoyable mess that fans and pundits have to come love about this one of a kind sport.

Week 11, College Basketball Picks 2018: Spread & Predictions

Although the Big 12 Conference has been getting the lions share of the praise for how deep and competitive they are, there are a plethora of other conferences that are doing their part to become recognized for their parity and competitive fire. In particular, the Big East has been one of the most competitive conferences in college basketball as they are replete with a number of high-octane offenses that can shoot proficiently from anywhere on the court. In terms of a lesser known conference that is on the rise, the Big 10 has quietly asserted themselves as being a defensively efficient conference as programs such as Purdue, Michigan State, and Ohio State are amongst some of the most disciplined and cerebral programs in the sport. This week, teams from the aforementioned conferences as well as the ACC will face off in highly contentious and crucial ranked vs. ranked affairs that should drastically alter the national rankings come next week.

Duke Blue Devils (5) vs. Miami Hurricanes (25)

Although having a top-ranked recruiting class may entice fans and pundits to automatically anoint said program as the best team in the country, it actually takes time to establish the competitive continuity needed to win comfortably every week. Although the Duke Blue Devils have looked like the best offensive program in the country this year, their youthful talent has struggled throughout the majority of the season to establish a consistent presence on defense. However, the Blue Devils emphatically displayed their potential to be an elite defensive team as they easily dispatched both Pittsburgh and Wake Forest last week (held both opponents to 52 and 71 total points respectively). Conversely, the Hurricanes have rarely wavered on defense (seven SPG, five BPG) but have struggled mightily at shooting from beyond the arch (34.6 3P%) and from the charity stripe (63.2 FT%). While the Blue Devils have been susceptible to being complacent against lesser opponents, they should be able to outscore the Hurricanes down the stretch to secure another crucial victory against an ACC opponent.

Final Score: Blue Devils 79 Hurricanes 70 Spread: Duke -4.5

Kansas Jayhawks (10) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (6)

Despite their ranking as the 10th best program in the country, the Jayhawks have looked anything but elite at times. With their improving albeit inconsistent defense overshadowing what has been by an large a prolific offense (85.8 PPG, 70.2 PAPG), the Jayhawks have a propensity to give up too much ground against merciless defenses that know how to take advantage of their lack of physicality. Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, they will have to contend with a Mountaineers team that is not only tough-minded on defense (65.4 PAPG), but that can also attack the rim offensively with a zeal that is difficult to contain. For the Jayhawks to have any chance of winning, they will have to force the Mountaineers to shoot from outside of the paint, the one weakness that has been exposed in both of West Virginia’s losses. In the end, though, the Jayhawks do not have the personnel needed to overwhelm a Mountaineers program that is extremely difficult to intimidate.

Final Score: Jayhawks 78 Mountaineers 85 Spread: West Virginia -6.0

Clemson Tigers (20) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (15)

Another ACC contest that pits a defensively oriented program in the Tigers (64.4 PAPG) against an offensive heavy team in the Tar Heels (82.6 PPG), this is a crucial matchup that is essential for the future in conference success of both teams. Although the Tigers are inconsistent when shooting from the perimeter, they are surprisingly effective when it comes to making shots from within the arch (48.2 FG%) even though they struggle to reach point totals anywhere near 80 points per game. Conversely, the Tar Heels success is predicated on scoring in quick bunches with Luke Maye (18.2 PPG) and Kenny Williams (12.1 PPG) being the main sharpshooters that usually have to carry this program offensively. While North Carolina is capable of overwhelming a Clemson program that has lost a couple of close contests, the Tigers are much more fundamentally sound on defense and possess more high-percentage shooters that are particularly potent if they can get to the basket.

Final Score: Tigers 76 Tar Heels 73 Spread:

Villanova Wildcats (1) vs. Georgetown Hoyas

Despite just having one loss on the season, the Wildcats have actually been fairly inconsistent on defense (69.6 PAPG). Luckily,  they have a plethora of incredibly accurate shooters that can rapidly and consistently hit shots from practically anywhere on the court (51.2 FG%, 41.4 3P%). With all five of their starters averaging double-digit points per game, it becomes clear that the Wildcats have been able to cover up their defensive blemishes with impressive production from their cold-blooded offensive playmakers. Although Georgetown has had its ups and downs this year from a competitive standpoint, they have been respectable as both a scoring and defensive unit (78.8 PPG, 69.9 PAPG). However, when you consider the Hoyas struggles when it comes to competing against the more reputable opposition of the Big East, it becomes hard to imagine the resilient yet decidedly average Hoyas pulling off the upset against a top-ranked program in Villanova.

Final Score: Wildcats 87 Hoyas 76 Spread:

Seton Hall Pirates (19) vs. Creighton Blue Jays

For anyone that prognosticates the outcome of sports contest professionally, it can be a bit frustrating to analyze a program effectively such as Seton Hall. Despite allowing 69.9 points per game, the Pirates have only three losses on their resume combined with victories against all three ranked opponents they have faced this season. Unlike the Pirates, the Blue Jays have rarely deviated from their competitive style of shooting and moving the basketball consistently. Yet, the defense of the Blue Jays has been poor more often than not and has prevented this elite offensive program from reaching the pinnacle of being one of the top teams in the Big East. Considering both programs have unique inconsistency issues, I believe this toss-up contest will go to the Blue Jays as their offense is much more reliable and can hang with many of the competitive programs within their conference.

Final Score: Pirates 81 Blue Jays 87 Spread:

Saint Mary’s Gaels vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (13)

The only time the West Coast Conference is worth watching is when these two fierce rivals meet up in an attempt to garner a notable victory for their resumes before the NCAA Tournament. While Saint Mary’s has almost always played second fiddle to the Bulldogs from a competitive standpoint, they’ve rarely been an easy out and actually have a well-rounded team this season (80.8 PPG, 65.4 PAPG). Although the Bulldogs do not have a defense anywhere near as efficient as that of the Gaels (69.4 PAPG), they do have a dynamically dominant offense that has both the depth and impressive inside shooting capabilities to baffle even the soundest defensive programs (Bulldogs have six players that average double-digit points per game). Even though the Gaels are scrappy defensively and can score effectively in bunches, they do not have the personnel to keep up with a Bulldogs program that is loaded with shooting talent.

Final Score: Gaels 78 Bulldogs 84 Spread:

Wichita State Shockers (7) vs. Houston Cougars

Although the American Athletic Conference newcomers in the Shockers have yet to lose to a conference opponent this season, they have yet to contend with an opponent in a revenge-oriented contest. Considering the first meeting between these two programs saw the Shockers blow the doors off the Cougars, you can bet that Houston will be hungry to prove that they cannot be dispatched in the same way twice. Well-balanced on both offense and defense, the Cougars have gone under the radar as a competitive team that can win in a multitude of ways. However, the offensively potent Shockers have gotten to where they currently are because they know how to play to their strengths and can do just enough on defense to give themselves a few extra opportunities to eventually win down the stretch. For this reason, the Shockers will not be susceptible to what will be an extremely hostile environment in Houston and will eventually overwhelm the Cougars with their elevated accurate shot taking from the field.

Final Score: Shockers 83 Cougars 80 Spread:

Oklahoma Sooners (4) vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

As it has been mentioned ad nauseam this season, I’m just going to keep it simple and succinct: the Sooners are really, really, really good at shooting the basketball. Leading the nation in offensive efficiency, Oklahoma has rarely been held back by their poor defense and have been overly reliant on Wooden Award candidate Trae Young to carry them in one game after the next. As for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, they are essentially a less extreme version of the Sooners. They possess an above average offense (80.2 PPG) and a relatively average defense (71.1 PAPG) that has allowed them to remain competitive in the Big 12, although their lack of dominance in any one area has prevented them from taking down some of the more elite competition within their conference. As this is a rivalry affair, I expect this contest to be fairly close with the relentless offense of the Sooners eventually winning out down the stretch.

Final Score: Sooners 92 Cowboys 88 Spread:

Xavier Musketeers (11) vs. Seton Hall Pirates (19)

If you have watched any Big East basketball this year, then you know how divergent and different these two programs are from each other. Recently, the once high-octane and potent offense of the Musketeers has gone cold as they have lost two of their last three games while scoring 72 and 65 points respectively in both of those losses. Simply put, the Musketeers live and die by their high-flying offense and lack the physical firepower needed to intimidate and stifle their opponents defensively. As mentioned previously in this post, the Pirates typically come into each game with a completely different mindset than they did from the last game they played. While Seton Hall is capable of playing both offense and defense effectively, these two aspects rarely coincide, with one competitive form inevitably superseding the other at some point. While the Pirates unconventional competitive style has gotten them into trouble at times, they do have the personnel needed to improvise based on their opponent and should be able to take advantage of a Musketeers program that is currently struggling to play competitive basketball.

Final Score: Musketeers 75 Pirates 81 Spread:

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Clemson Tigers (20)

It has been a while since the Fighting Irish have been mentioned in the same breath with any type of reputable competition this season. However, Notre Dame has appeared to accept the fact that their offense is a bit of mess right now (77.7 PPG) and have instead opted to pour more their competitive juices into bolstering what has become an elite defense (64.2 PAPG). Similarly, Clemson has focused most of its energy on maintaining a potent defense that can make up for their offensive deficiencies more often than not. As both of these share both similar strengths and weaknesses, this should be a highly competitive affair that sees the Fighting Irish eventually pulling a fast one to shocking the Tigers on the road.

Final Score: Fighting Irish 75 Tigers 74 Spread:

Kansas Jayhawks vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Live Stream: How to Watch Online

Kansas vs. West Virginia is going to be a must see! The Jayhawks are red hot after getting their third straight win in a one-point victory over a scrap Kansas St. team. The Jayhawks last loss came against Texas Tech, who coincidentally just handed West Virginia their first loss since opening night on Saturday. Bob Huggins and Bill Self will have to be on their A games tonight if they want to coach their team to a victory tonight in Morgantown!

Kansas has gotten off to a 14-3 start and is 4-1 in conference play, the 11 time defending Big 12 champs find themselves in a dog race for the title. With improvements around the Big 12, this will be the toughest year out of the last 12 to claim the Big 12. The Jayhawks have won their previous three games, but all have been nail-biters coming by margins as small as four, five, and one. Senior guard Devonte’ Graham will have to come with everything he’s got tonight to give his team a chance. Graham leads Kansas with per game averages of 18.4 points and 7.4 assists. The full court press that WVU runs especially with Jevon Carter defending him will make every single dribble matter and any mistake dire tonight for him.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (15-2) are coming off their first loss in a long time. The Mountaineers had won 15 straight since suffering an opening night loss to Texas A&M. This will be the first real test to see how well Bob Huggins and his boys can respond to a loss after going undefeated for so long. I don’t expect WVU to show any signs of slowing down especially being that they have a chance to beat Kansas and pull a little farther away in the race for first place in the Big 12 continues. WVU is loaded with veteran leaders such as senior guards Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. The full court press will be in full effect, and they will do their best to force Kansas into bad passes and contested long-range jumpers. If WVU brings their big boy pants and bodies up down low with Kansas hey should win easily.

Despite several top-ranked programs such as West Virginia, Texas Tech and Michigan State all suffering upset losses this past week, the top-10 as a whole did not change very much. Although many top-25 teams have moved up or down depending on their respective results, only two unranked teams broke into the AP Poll rankings this week. Specifically, Michigan and Ohio State both earned spots in this weeks poll, as the Wolverines pulled off the massive upset over Michigan State while the Buckeyes are currently undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record. While it’s still too early to postulate that the Big 10 is the up and coming conference that could threaten the Big 12, there certainly appears to be more parity and competitive programs in the Big 10 Conference than there were at the start of the season.

Unfortunately for the Horned Frogs, their once highly prolific offense has not been enough to keep them competitive against elite conference competition as they are currently 1-4 in the Big 12. Losing to both Texas and Oklahoma last week, TCU was unable to persevere during the clutch time as both of their most recent losses occurred during overtime. While the Horned Frogs have to feel somewhat relieved that they were not dropped out of the rankings altogether, there definitely has to be some serious concern for this programs future success as they have clearly been exposed as having a horrible defense that is not nearly good enough to hold off most opponents that have and will face so that their electric offense can find its rhythm.

With West Virginia losing to Texas Tech this past week, the Virginia Cavaliers were able to move up one spot to become the 2nd best team in the country right behind Villanova. Although the Cavaliers lack a reputable offense, their top-ranked defense combined with their physical presence underneath the basket has allowed them to stifle their respective opponents while garnering enough rebounds to give their anemic offense more chances to score in transition. Can the Cavaliers keep performing at an elite level defensively and eventually secure a place atop both the ACC Conference and the AP Poll in the coming weeks?
