With eight weeks of college football in the books, there is a clash between two top 15 programs. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are currently 6-1 and are looking to prove that they belong in the college football playoff conversation. Notre Dame’s only loss this season was a one point defeat at the hands of top five ranked Georgia which means that if Notre Dame wins out for the remainder of the season, it will truly have an elite resume. As for NC State, the Wolfpack are currently 6-1 with their one loss coming at the hands of unranked South Carolina in week one. Both teams are on the outside looking into a college football playoff spot but a win against a fellow top 15 team would definitely help.

Notre Dame’s success is due to star running back Josh Adams. This season, Adams already has over 900 yards rushing along with eight rushing touchdowns. Adams is currently averaging a whopping 9.2 yards per carry and looks like one of the best running backs in all of college football. If Adams gets going behind the Irish’s elite offensive line, there is no chance that NC State will be able to win this contest.

NC State’s success is due to star quarterback Ryan Finley. So far this season, Finley has thrown for 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The ball security has helped this team reach the top 15 and will need to continue if the Wolfpack plan on upsetting Notre Dame on Saturday. With the playmakers that Notre Dame have on defense, Finley better be careful with the football. If he does not, this game might get out of hand extremely quickly.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Notre Dame. I think that Adams will have a big game due to the elite nature of Notre Dame’s offensive line. Finley is a solid quarterback but I think that Notre Dame has the better all-around team. I think Notre Dame wins by a touchdown.

Sure, Halloween is the perfect excuse to go watch Suspiria or Dracula, but some of us have kids, and there are a bunch of people who themselves want to get in the holiday spirit who don’t like being traumatized by seeing fictionalized gore and death. College Times has made a list of 10 non-scary movies to enjoy this October’s end.

Be warned: What makes something scary is still a matter of opinion in the end!

10. The Witches (1990)

The original book is slightly darker, with the film adaptation going for a typical happy ending, as well as implying the existence of good witches. That said, some children might get scared of seeing the witches out of their human disguises or seeing the children get turned into rats. Still, Angelica Houston is in it; kids can afford a little trauma.

9. Casper (1995)

Some younger kids might be better off watching the 60’s cartoons where Casper was born a ghost and has that witch girlfriend, but the 90’s incarnation of this character is still a classic for a lot of people. Still, I have to ask, just why does Casper live with his three uncles? Are his parents…still alive or something?

8. Halloweentown (1998)

Sure, if you’re in the mood for a story of an underage witch, there is Teen Witch or Sabrina, but there is another: Marnie Piper, who is living on Earth before she learns of her witch lineage from another world: Halloweentown, hence the name of the film. Also, Debbie Reynolds is in it. There were a few sequels, but let’s just forget about the one where Marnie goes to college. I mean, they even wrote out Marnie’s goblin friend!

7. The Addams Family (1991)

America’s favorite family has had a lot of incarnations over the years: comics, sitcoms, cartoons and even a Broadway show! Still, their 90’s movie helped solidify they would have a place in pop culture over the next few decades. Most people might remember the sequel more, but that’s something that should be saved for Thanksgiving.

6. Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The best part about this movie is that it becomes relevant again in about two months. Besides, who doesn’t love stop-motion animation? Why? A lot of Tim Burton’s films could fit on this list? Corpse Bride? Frankenweenie? Hansel & Gretel? Okay, that last one might be pushing it.

5. Scary Movie (2000)

Yeah, this one’s probably not for kids, but it’s still pretty funny. Especially that part when Buffy (no relation) complains about her head getting cut off even after her head is actually cut off.

4. Ghostbusters (1984)

Technically, while it’s not exactly scary in itself, it is annoying getting the theme song stuck in your head. If you’re still worried about the film scaring younger children, then you can always go with that spin-off cartoon. I mean, there was an episode where Egon turns into a were-chicken. It was good television.

3. Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

I guess there is just something spooky about stop-motion? Regardless, with an Oscar to back it up, who doesn’t need a good story about a cheese savant, his non-talking dog, with a subplot about were-rabbits running about? I don’t want to spoil just who the were-rabbit is…wait, dogs aren’t supposed to talk, why am I acting like it’s so strange?

2. The Harry Potter films (Various Years)

Yes, there are many reasons fans of the books prefer the books; there are even some people out there who still haven’t forgiven the filmmakers for splitting the last movie in two. There are nights when even I wake up screaming just thinking about what happened to Padma and Parvati’s Yule Ball outfits. Still, who doesn’t appreciate the story about the boy who lived?

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Is it weird that nobody remembers that the three witches kill a little girl at the start? Who cares…we only watch it for that “I Put A Spell On You” scene. It’s the reason I posted it right here and now. If you want to listen to a clean version without people talking over it, just keep watching the end credits!

After taking Game 3 at home behind a solid pitching performance from Lance McCullers, the Astros will look to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series behind the arm of Charlie Morton. The lineup for the Astros has come alive in its last two games and looks poised to put a stranglehold on this series.

Charlie Morton, the 33-year-old pitcher from New Jersey, will make his first World Series start in his ninth season in the MLB. In Morton’s last start, he shutout the Yankees in game 7 of the ALCS over five innings. Morton possesses a variety of pitches that could frustrate the potent Dodgers’ lineup if he can locate them properly.

On the mound for the Dodgers will be 26-year-old Alex Wood. This season, Wood was unbelievable and went 16-3 as a result. However, Wood struggled in his lone playoff start this season after allowing three runs in less than five innings against the Chicago Cubs. That start was ten days ago so one has to wonder how sharp Wood will look following the abnormally long rest.

This game, for all intents and purposes, is a must-win game for the Dodgers. If the Dodgers go down 3-1 in the series, then I cannot see them beating this Astros team three straight times. In my opinion, if the Dodgers lose tonight, the Astros will win the World Series.

A lot of little girls like to dress up like princesses for Halloween, especially when there are so many fairy tale heroines to choose from. Three-year-old Roslyn Breen of Comstock Park, Michigan, who was born with a muscular condition that keeps her confined to a wheelchair, wanted to be Cinderella this year, and her mother wanted to make sure things were special for her this year, especially for a little girl who deserves it.

A deserving girl gets to be a princess for the night…why does that sound familiar?

Roslyn’s mother, Tiffany decided to transform her daughter’s wheelchair into a pumpkin carriage for Halloween night. While using a pumpkin, six white mice, a rat and a few lizards is traditional, Tiffany decided to use things around the house: hula hoops, Christmas decorations and battery-operated lights.

In other words, it sparkles!

Officially, Roslyn’s condition is undiagnosed, but her condition keeps her from walking or even sitting up. According to Babble, Tiffany explained that it was important for her that Roslyn shone in her costume, saying, “I wanted her [Roslyn] to draw attention in a positive way. Sometimes, we get a lot of stares, for different reasons.”

Even before Halloween night, Roslyn got to show off her dress and carriage at an event called “Boo at the Zoo” in her hometown. Reportedly, people could be heard saying, “Look, there’s Cinderella in her carriage!”

In some places, Halloween is also known as the Day of the Witches. When those broomstick-riding hags aren’t too busy luring children to their doom or poisoning their stepdaughters, they make some pretty good television and films. Whether you prefer The Wizard of Oz or The Blair Witch Project, they’re already plenty of classic films with sisters of Salem. It almost makes you think that adding a witch to any movie will always be an improvement. If you’re not getting the possibility, Twitter already has with the #AddWitchcraftToAMovie hashtag.

Look, it’s the great American tradition; Halloween isn’t even over and people are thinking about Christmas. American Thanksgiving is usually celebrated pretty much exclusively in the United States, so it makes sense something an international as Twitter would make the skip in between with the trending hashtag: #MarryMeAtChristmas. Look, if we can have Christmas in July, then we can have it in October!

The hashtag is actually in honor of a HallMark Christmas movie of the same name, but do we really need an excuse to talk about Christmas?

• Adopt a cat from a local shelter! This is not feasible for everyone out there, but if you can, and you want to, it is probably a good idea!
• Just because you can’t afford a cat doesn’t mean you still can’t help shelter cats. You can always share blankets, food and toys to animal welfare organizations. And money! Who doesn’t need some more money lying around?
• Can’t you help shelter cats without money? Yes, you can! You can volunteer your time to help with shelters, meaning you’ll get to play with kittens!
• Write your local politicians to ask them to help fight kitten mills (and gas chambers) in your state.
• Be a cat for the day! Paint your face to look like a cat! Wear fake cat-ears! Purchase a cat-related T-shirt or costume. Change your name to “Cat!” Not “Catherine,” just “Cat!”

• Host a National Cat Day party and invite all the local cats! Make a seafood buffet and I’m sure the cats will just find you!
• If you don’t have a cat yourself, but still have a cat in your life, like one belonging to a neighbor or relative, you can always indulge them by sending new toys or cat-related treats.
• Bake some cat-related treats, like a cat-shaped cake or cookies. If you lack creativity, commission one of those photo cakes with a photo of a random cat. Keep in mind: do not feed such baked goods to a cat or use cat in your baking.
• Look up some cat-related photos on Facebook. If you already have a cat, then upload your photos of said cat to the site!
• Watch some cat videos on YouTube. Who are we kidding? You probably have a cat video in another tab. You were just about to watch a cat video regardless of what I said. You probably watched one less than an hour ago. Some of you probably have plans to make cat videos!

“There are a lot of significant regular season games and potential conference tournament rematches on the horizon that could totally change the makeup of top-seeded teams when we gather in Indianapolis in two weeks.”

ABC recently aired the annual Halloween special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. A bonus cartoon about a school election came after it, in part because it furthered the Great Pumpkin mythology. There’s something in it for everyone: seeing Lucy in a witch mask, Linus and Sally waiting for the Great Pumpkin or maybe just Charlie Brown’s iconic line, “I got a rock.”

Kids used to collect pet rocks, so maybe it’s one of those “aluminum Christmas tree” things going on, but it regardless painted Charlie as a classic down-on-his-luck everyman that is deep down inside all of us. Twitter sprouted out in nostalgia over the airing with the #GreatPumpkin hashtag. We even got posts from accounts officially associated with the Peanuts, like the comic strip that started it all! One can only wonder what will happen when it’s time for the Christmas special?

A man dressed as Santa Claus has reportedly shot and injured four people at a Halloween party, three of them being hospitalized, as reported by police in Texas.

What had transpired in Austin, Texas?

According to police, the victims and the suspect had all been attending the same Halloween party early Sunday, October 29. Four people were victims in the incident, as explained by the Austin Emergency Medical Services. Two of the victims were found to have critical, life-threatening injuries. A third victim was said to have serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Reportedly, the fourth victim refused emergency medical services.

Police have said that the shooter knew the partygoers, meaning that that shooting was not random. Reportedly, the shooter, who was dressed as Santa Claus, was arrested at a separate place and is in police custody. No charges have officially been filed as the investigation is currently ongoing, according to the Sacremento Bee.

Austin police explained the incident as it transpired through a series of Twitter posts.

Kevin Spacey announced on Twitter that he is gay.

Spacey’s announcement comes after Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was 14 years old.

According to Rapp’s claims, Spacey allegedly made a pass at Rapp in 1986 when they were both working on the Broadway play Precious Sons. Spacey was 26-years-old at the time.

Candy corn had to be one of my favorite candies of the Halloween season. They’re so sweet and sugary. And I was surprised to hear that the running joke for candy corn is that no one eats them and they’re trash. Those people aren’t the voices for candy corn-kind. They’re generalizing the public to an acquired taste demonizing the marginalized candy corn, while using awful stereotypes that hurt candy corn production.

The treat was first invented back in the 1880s a Wunderlee Candy Company employee named George Renninger. Goelitz Candy Company was the next organization to produce and sell candy corn, as it has shipped out the tri-colored candies since 1898.
