Calgary Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau has a radical idea in mind for what people should refer to him as. In the spirit of Johnny Manziel and “Johnny Football”, Gaudreau is looking to patent and trademark “Johnny Hockey” according to TSN. Gaudreau had 32 points in his first 42 games and is now afraid that people are going to abuse the name without him getting anything out of it.
There is plenty right and wrong about this. Anyone who has seen Manziel at the pro level has seen so far that he is definitely not “Johnny Football”. Gaudreau at least is performing at a high level and if he can keep it going, he will deserve to have his own moniker to thrown about but it is still way too early for anything like that to happen.
Gaudreau and his agent are smartly considering it though which is key to the situation. If Gaudreau finishes this season as Rookie of the Year and then takes that to the next level with more solid seasons after that, Johnny Hockey will stick and work out. Otherwise, this is going to look really bad for the Flames rookie who would have flamed out in his hockey career.
