J Hampton Moore School Lockdown: Reports of Student With Gun

UPDATE (10:10 a.m. EST): The lockdown at J. Hampton Moore School in Philadelphia has been lifted after Philly police confirm that the student in question was carrying a toy gun and not a real one.

Police say the J. Moore Hampton School in Philadelphia has been placed on lockdown following the report of a student entering the building with a gun on Friday.

The elementary school, which is located in the Castor area of Philadelphia, was placed on lockdown at around 8:40 a.m. local time.

There is currently a heavy police presence with K-9 units on the scene to inspect the area and investigate the reports of a student with a gun. A SWAT unit is also currently on the scene.

Police have yet to confirm whether or not a gun has been seen or found. Additionally, at this time, there is no word of any gunfire or injuries.

J. Moore Hampton School, which teaches grades kindergarten through fifth, is located on the 6900 block of Summerdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia. The school is also sometimes referred to as Moore J Hampton School.

The reports of an armed student at J. Moore Hampton School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, evacuations, and shootings that have plagued our nation’s schools in recent years.
