Vanessa Cline, a 32-year-old woman from Stafford, Virginia, was booked into Rappahannock Regional Jail on $8,000 bond after allegedly embezzling nearly $100,000 from her former employer for personal benefits, according to the Free Lance-Star.
According to jail records, Cline has been charged with 15 felony counts including five counts of embezzlement, five counts of forgery, and five counts of uttering.
Cline is accused of stealing $93,000 from her former employer to pay for a lavish wedding, an all-terrain vehicle, and plastic surgery — including a butt lift. In total, her plastic surgery from Elite Plastic Surgery in Miami, Florida topped $7,200. They also found out that Cline had been using the company’s credit card to buy personal items which included $2,000 for a wedding dress and $25,000 for a wedding planner.
From the police report:
Other purchases included clothing, perfume, household furniture, airline tickets, and an all-terrain vehicle. She also forged five checks totaling nearly $10,000. The suspect has been identified as Vanessa Cline, 32, of Stafford. She had replaced another former bookkeeper for the company who pleaded guilty to charges last year after embezzling at least $150,000 from the company between January 2016 and January 2018.
To make things worse for Cline’s ex-employer, she had replaced another bookkeeper who was convicted in 2018 of stealing more than $150,000 from the company over the course of two years, according to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo.
In the state of Virginia, felony embezzlement carries a max punishment of up to 20 years behind bars. Forgery and uttering are both punishable by up to 10 years in prison so it could be a while before Cline sees the light of day if she is ultimately found guilty of all charges.
