Miss ‘The Office’? Check Out The New Vampire Version, ‘What We Do In The Shadows’

Quietly home to the funniest TV comedy of the last decade (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), FX recently launched another low-key comedy that looks as though its another home run for the network.

While What We Do In The Shadows will likely never make it to its 13th season like It’s Always Sunny has (in fact, most shows never get that far), it will definitely establish itself as one of the most hilarious, yet most underrated, comedies on television sooner rather than later.

Shot in the mockumentary style pioneered by hits such as The Office and Parks and Recreation, What We Do In The Shadows can best be described as The Office with vampires.

Based on the 2014 New Zealand horror comedy film of the same name, What We Do In The Shadows comes from the mind of Taika Waititi — known for directing the hilarious and action-packed Thor: Ragnarok — and Jemaine Clement, who is best known for his work on Flight of the Conchords, Men in Black 3, and Legion.

Following the lives of four vampires who have been living together in Staten Island for hundreds of years, What We Do In The Shadows sees the group tasked with taking over the world — as they were originally supposed to due centuries ago — when their grotesque vampire leader suddenly returns.

The clearest highlight of The Office-esque humor of the show comes in the form of Colin, a daywalker who is known as an “energy vampire”:

The series stars Kayvan Novak as Nandor, Matt Berry as Laszlo, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, Harvey Guillen as Guillermo, and Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson.

What We Do In The Shadows airs on FX on Wednesday’s at 10 p.m. EST.
