Ever since Avengers: Infinity War hit American theaters on April 27, 2018, fans across the globe have been speculating, theorizing, and frankly obsessing about how the second chapter in the saga, Avengers: Endgame , will conclude this epic story.
But of all of the Avengers: Endgame theories — some very legitimate, others not so much — only one of those theories has blossomed into a full-blown, can’t-miss-it meme.
Avengers: Infinity War notably brought together heroes from all corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of Earth’s mightiest was missing: Ant-Man.
And while Ant-Man’s absence was briefly glossed over by Black Widow in Infinity War, one fan had a different, more grotesque theory:
Tweeted just three days after the United States premiere of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, that explicit yet shockingly reasonable theory has only grown in stature since, eventually butterflying into a full-blown meme.
In fact, this particularly bonkers fan theory/running joke/meme has gained so much steam over the past year that even Ant-man himself Paul Rudd addressed it during an interview.
Avengers: Endgame will star Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and more. At the time of its release, it will be the 22nd film in the 11-year old Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie was preceded by Captain Marvel and will be followed up by Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
Avengers: Endgame will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, April 26.
