The Los Angeles Police Department has responded to reports of an “active shooter” at the Westfield Century City mall in California.
On Twitter, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that they were “responding to calls” of an active shooter at the Century City Mall, although they reiterated that there is no evidence of a shooting or victims at this time.
A heavy police presence is currently on the scene to investigate the reports. The Los Angeles Police Department’s West LA Division responded to the mall, located at 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard, around 12:30 p.m. PST.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing people running to evacuate the mall following the reports of an active shooter.
As a result of the reports, Westfield Century City mall has been evacuated and the Santa Monica Boulevard has been shut down due while authorities investigate the scene. Authorities have asked civilians to avoid the area of the mall while the police investigation is underway.
Venice 311, a Los Angeles police department blog, also called the situation a “possible active shooter” situation on Twitter.
Additionally, Venice 311 said that the suspect is being described as a 5’7″ African American male who is wearing a green bandana, black pants, and is carrying a black backpack and a small black handgun.
The reports of an “active shooter situation” Westfield Century City Mall in California is just the latest in a string of similar incidents that have involved gun violence in the United States.
