Ian David Long, the suspect, believed to have shot and killed 12 people on Wednesday night in a California bar. Long’s background shows him as an ex-Marine who may have suffered from PTSD.
Long was a Corporal Marine from August 4th, 2008 to March 2, 2013. He specialized in machine gun operations. He was deployed to Afghanistan after his active duty in Los Angeles, California.
During his service, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division, etc.
Long was said to be an accurate shooter during his time in the military. He was awarded numerous awards, such as included two-time Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, etc.

Evidence Of PTSD
Reports show Long was showing signs of lashing out and collecting ammunition for a 45 caliber Glock. His background shows he was a machine gunner with excellent precision. The reports of Long’s preparation came from his neighbor who saw Long with the gun and said he had “no idea what he was doing with the gun.”
There were other signs of PTSD after an incident with his mother. It was reported that Long was throwing furniture and shot a bullet through the wall. Long was never arrested for the incident.
There were several reports of Long lashing out and screaming in his home. Ventura sheriffs were called multiple times of Long’s outbursts and believed during his five years of military background he was suffering from PTSD. However, Mental health professionals did not take him into custody. He was cleared and let go.
The incidents started during April of 2018 and have continued since the shooting Wednesday at the bar.
Information On Long In California Bar Shooting
Information of the shooting came in; it is said that Long reloaded his handgun at least once. The magazine held 10 rounds and one in the chamber. It was found that Long had an extended magazine on the gun.
Long was found dead in the bar, no information has come in if he was shot by an officer or by himself in a suicide attempt.
Previous mass shootings have shown 34% of 83 shootings committed by males have been veterans who suffer from PTSD. Long is not the only one who lashed out and suffered from a mental disorder due to his time spent in the military.
