Miesha Tate, a former Strikeforce and UFC women’s bantamweight champion, has a new gig. After retiring from competitive mixed martial arts, Tate has joined Asian mixed martial arts promotion ONE Championship. According to an announcement from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong, Tate will serve on the promotion’s executive team as Vice President.

“Please join me in welcoming my good friend Miesha Tate to ONE Championship! She is one of the greatest female mixed martial artists in history. Above all, she has a heart of gold. Miesha will be moving to Singapore in early 2019 to join us as a Vice President,” Sityodtong wrote on Twitter.

In a press release issued shortly after, Sityodtong added: “It is both an honor and a privilege to announce that women’s mixed martial arts world champion Miesha Tate will be joining ONE Championship as Vice President. Miesha has been an incredible pioneer for the sport, and has been an inspiration for many young men and women. What impresses me most about Miesha is her humility, compassion, honor, and respect. Throughout her career, Miesha has always exemplified the deep-rooted martial arts values of integrity, humility, honor, respect, courage, discipline, and compassion. Not only is she a good friend, but I am proud to have her represent ONE Championship on a global scale. I look forward to welcoming Miesha to her new home in Singapore!”

Tate retired from mixed martial arts in 2016 with an 18-7 record.

“I am thrilled to join ONE Championship as a Vice President. I truly believe in its mission of unleashing real-life superheroes who ignite the world with hope, strength, dreams, and inspiration,” Tate said. “I’m honored to bring my experience as a World Champion and to help inspire the next generation of athletes. And of course, I am excited to relocate to my new home, Singapore, and travel throughout Asia.”

The move comes on the heels of ONE Championship’s recent major acquisitions of former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez, who will be competing in the promotion’s upcoming world grand prix tournaments.

While already a prominent force in the Asian mixed martial arts scene where it has the same popularity of the UFC, it is clear that ONE Championship is looking to expand its global reach.
