In the tentht week of college football, there is only a contest between two conference rivals in the SEC. That game is between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. Both teams came into the season with the hopes of lifting another national championship. Alabama has not won a championship since two seasons ago while LSU has not won since 2007. While LSU’s title chances have already ended, Alabama still looks poised for another championship and a victory today will surely help.
Alabama, led by coach Nick Saban, is currently the number two ranked team in the country after being surpassed by Georgia in the AP poll. Now, Alabama will look to dominate LSU with the hopes of regaining its number one ranking on Saturday night. Alabama’s offense is led by sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts is a dual threat quarterback who has the ability to elongate plays with his legs as well as pick up key first downs through scrambling. So far this season, Hurts has thrown nine touchdowns and only one interception while also scoring six times on the ground. If LSU plans on pulling off this upset, its defense will need to slow down Hurts and keep him in the pocket.
LSU’s season has been inconsistent to say the least. LSU started the season 2-0 before getting blown out by conference rival Mississippi State. LSU did manage to respond by beating Syracuse 35-26 at home and the team looked to be back on track. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they laid an egg in their next game and lost at home to Troy. Since the loss to Troy, LSU has won three straight games including an impressive victory over Auburn at home.
LSU’s offense is led by star running back Derrius Guice. Guice, a preseason favorite to win the Doak Walker Award, is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and has rushed for six touchdowns. Guice has elite elusiveness and will play a big role in LSU’s gameplan against Alabama’s stout defense. Expect Guice to get the ball early and often in this contest.
As for a prediction, I have to side with Alabama. Nick Saban has always owned the LSU Tigers and I expect that trend to continue on Saturday. LSU’s offense is extremely one dimensional and I expect the Alabama defense to slow Guice down. I expect Alabama to win this contest by a few touchdowns.
