During the dog days of summer, the options for sports fans are limited, especially when your favorite baseball team stinks (like the Mets.) But every so often, those seemingly endless dog days of August can lead us to discover something beautiful.
This summer, that beautiful discovery is 12-year-old little leaguer Jeffer “Boog” Powell.
The 12-year-old, checking in at 5’2″ 220lbs (50 pounds more than me, and I’m 12 years his senior), stole the hearts and minds of the masses on Monday night when he swaggered up the plate during Tennessee’s Little League regional championship game against a South Carolina team.
Powell is named after major leaguer Boog Powell, who was recently traded from the Oakland A’s to the Seattle Mariners.
Now, while young Boog may not have a future in the MLB, that doesn’t mean he can’t swing the stick today, as he was able to drive in an RBI:
