A late goal in the third period helped the Penguins take away game two and the Senators are looking to retake the series lead in Ottawa. Hopefully this game is a lot more eventful. Game two did not have much scoring or action, just a back and forth of two equally-matched teams. All credit has to go to Andre Fleury and Craig Anderson, for the standstill in that game was caused by the awesomeness and skill of those two goalies. However, Phil Kessell, who had a hot temper the whole game, was able to score to help the Penguins even out the series. The next two games will be played in Ottawa, so get ready for some more great playoff hockey.
The Penguins were not happy with the overtime loss in game one at home and were sure as hell not going to go to Ottawa without tying up the series. That being said, Pittsburgh had some close calls in game two that could have gone the Senators’ way. The whole game just seemed a like a deadlock between both teams, with not much action happening in either zone. These two teams played great defense and offense, but if the Penguins want to win this series they really have to go the extra mile. Fleury is a great goalie, but the biggest error is to put all of the pressure on his back to win them games. If game one showed us anything, it is that if the Penguins play sloppy, then Fleury suffers. I will say they have tightened up a lot of the issues that were apparent in the series vs. the Capitals, but the Penguins need to break past the Senators’ defense in order to win this series.
Even though the Senators lost in game two, it was not a crushing defeat and they still did play some amazing hockey. The biggest pro and con about the Senators is that they are a very defensive team. Ottawa waits patiently for a moment to strike and go on the offensive, which helped them win their series against the Bruins and the Rangers. With great defensemen and a good goalie, this team can wait for their moment to strike and that strategy helped them win game one. In game two, however, it came back to bite them in the ass, as the moment never really came for them. Even with a minute to go in the game and with their goalie pulled, they were still playing defensively rather than trying to tie up the game. In game three, the Senators really need to strike harder and put more pressure on the Penguins if they want to win their next two home games.
