After a huge victory over the Washington Wizards, the Boston Celtics now have the ultimate task of taking on the defending champs, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Home court advantage lies with the Celtics, who will get to play the first two games of this series at the TD Garden.
The two teams’ paths to the Eastern Conference Finals have been quite different. The Cavaliers are currently 8-0 in the playoffs and well rested to say the least. The Celtics are coming off two grueling series where they’ve won 4-2 and 4-3, respectively. Boston is hoping to carry that momentum into the first game.
Handing Cleveland their first loss in the playoffs is going to be easier said than done, but playing at home to kick things off will definitely help. LeBron James has seemed completely unstoppable at times during these playoffs, and the rest of the team is riding the wave. With James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love in the mix, the Cavaliers are a matchup nightmare and have depth coming in off the bench.
The Celtics have played consistently better at home after going 4-0 at the TD Garden against the Wizards. Boston will need their surrounding cast to play flawless in order to accomplish the upset. We’re looking at Kelly Olynyk after he somehow proved to be the hero of game seven with 26 points out of nowhere. Isaiah Thomas will have to find ways to keep doing what he’s been doing especially lining up, most likely, against Irving.
