March is finally here, and conference tournament season is in full swing. Conference tournaments are like a delicious appetizer until we get into the NCAA Tournament main course. One tournament that looks like it’s going to be very closely contested is the Southern Conference.

In the regular season, there was a three-way tie for first place, as UNC Greensboro, Furman, and East Tennessee State all went 14-4 in conference play. And we sure as hell can’t count out 4-seed Chattanooga either. The Mocs won the Southern Conference Tournament in 2016, beating East Tennessee State 73-67 in the championship game.

The 2017 Southern Conference Tournament will take place from Friday, March 3 through Monday, March 6 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Let’s breakdown the tournament’s bracket and the full schedule of the 10 teams that will be duking it out for a trip to March Madness.

That Tom Hanks, man. That guy should run for President. You ever met someone who doesn’t like Tom Hanks? Didn’t think so. And if you have, stop associating with that person because they’re either a serial killer or an alien. It seems impossible to me than a sane American could somehow dislike Tom Hanks. Just not possible.

In his never-ending quest to be the most likable dude ever, Tom Hanks has gifted the White House Press Corps. Now, before Mr. Cynical says he’s just doing this for good PR since everyone hates Trump, I’ll have you know that this is actually the third time Hanks has sent a gift to the WHPC. Of course, he has.

However, the highlight of the story is not the gift itself, but the kind note that came with it.

Democrats, here’s some advice on the house: put The Rock and Tom Hanks on the same ticket and you will not lose. I can guarantee it.

Out of the 10-team field, Gonzaga will be the heavy favorite in the 2017 West Coast Conference Tournament, and it’s not hard to see why. They’ve won the last four WCC Tournaments, and until they were shocked at home on Senior Night by BYU in their last regular season game, they were the only undefeated team in college basketball.

Gonzaga ended the season with a sterling 29-1 record overall and a 17-1 first place record in conference play. Joe Lunardi still has them as a #1 seed in his latest bracket, and I’m sure there will be a lot of people who pick the Bulldogs to win it all in their March Madness pool.

Rickilee Mercer, a woman from Spring, Texas, was found dead the day after she was reported missing in Belize. Mercer was last seen on Tuesday, February 28 around 2:00 P.M. when she reportedly fell off a Jet Ski in an area west of Ambergris Caye, Belize known as Secret Beach. Mercer left for San Pedro, Belize on February 24.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Mercer, a 28-year-old accountant, who had gone on a jet ski ride with a man she had just met, was not wearing a life jacket at the time.

Natella Svistunova, from the Office of Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, confirmed Mercer’s body was found Wednesday, March 1, near Blakadore Caye. She died from apparent neck injuries

Via the Chronicle:

“They were thrown off the Jet Ski and the current ripped them apart,” she said. “He was saved right offshore by a boat and said that he had been swimming for an hour and a half.”

Mercer wasn’t wearing a life jacket at the time.

Although searchers later located the Jet Ski, Mercer’s body wasn’t discovered until Wednesday. She was found “in the vicinity of Blakadore Caye with apparent injuries to her neck,” according to Ambergris Today.

The man on the jet ski was 39-year-old Marvin Hazim Yono of Bloomfield, Michigan.

Yono reported that he and his friend invited Mercer along for the ride. He also told police that he and Mercer were heading from Secret Beach when they both fell off.  Yono then swam to shore. He was questioned by police but as since been released.

According to her LinkedIn, Mercer was a Texas A&M University graduate. RIP.

Take Kylie Jenner’s new clothing line, for example. Instead of trying to get too fancy and create actual designs, they’ve just taken a bunch of pictures of what’s gotten them there — her body — and slapped it onto a t-shirt. You’ve got to respect that type of self-awareness.

I could only imagine how much money they’re making off these shirts. I’m going to take a shot in the dark and assume they’re selling them for about $30 bucks. The Instagram account has over a million follows, so if at least half of those people bought just one t-shirt, that’s $15 million in t-shirt sales right there. Mind-bending shit.

All of this is leading to Kylie’s eventual sex tape, which I have pegged being released about three years from now. It’s going to be a pay-per-view type of scenario and the price of admission is going to be about $100.

Security cameras at the Falkenburg Road Jail in Tampa Bay, Florida, captured 22-year-old Kiondre Zachery attempting to strangle Deputy D. Hernandez.

Zachery is seen wrapping a towel around the 31-year-old officer’s neck in front of the 72 other inmates in the common area. Luckily for Hernandez, the rest of the inmates seem to like him more than they like fellow inmate Zachery and they were quick to have the deputy’s back.

Deputy Hernandez was seen shortly struggling with Zachery before he was able to escape. After Zachery appeared to try and punch Hernandez, fellow inmates pounced on him and helped tackle him to the ground. When your own team is turning on you, you know you must be a real asshole.

Hernandez, who has been a guard at the Falkenburg Road Jail for 10 months, suffered a twisted ankle, bruised knee, and abrasions to his neck from the attack.

Zachery, who was already serving on burglary charges, was subsequently charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and moved to an isolation cell after the incident.

The Hillsborough County Sherriff said that the inmates saved Hernandez from being seriously injured.

Due to the overall professionalism and respect that detention deputies display towards the inmates on a daily basis, the inmates came to the deputy’s aid preventing the deputy from being seriously injured ‘It also shows that because most inmates know that the deputies inside the pods are not adversaries and are treated fairly and with respect,’ the sheriff’s office said.

Lindsay Johnson, a University Of Illinois student accused of suffocating her newborn son shortly after giving to him in the dorm bathroom, is set to plead guilty.

Johnson, 20, of Monee, has decided to take a plea deal, although her lawyers did not specify which charges she would be pleading guilty to. Johnson, a former an agricultural communications major at Illinois, faced up to 75 years behind bars if convicted of the first-degree murder of her baby.

Johnson told investigators she gave birth inside a bathroom at her residence hall in Champaign in March, then tried to quiet him with her hand or a towel. As a result, Johnson faced charges of murder, child endangerment and concealment of a homicidal death.

Johnson’s lawyers released a statement released following Johnson’s appearance before Judge Tom Difanis in Champaign County court:

“With the loving support of her family, Lindsay has made the difficult decision to enter into a plea agreement in April that will resolve the criminal charges filed against her,”

As for why the court allowed Johnson to accept a plea day, Santa Clara University law professor Michelle Oberman has a theory:

Santa Clara University law professor Michelle Oberman said sentences for women who are convicted of neonaticide, as the act of killing an infant within the baby’s first 24 hours of life is known, can run the gamut from probation with counseling to decades behind bars.

Oberman, who has studied hundreds of such cases over the past 20-plus years, said women with competent legal representation generally receive sentences of no more than a year or two in prison, with many getting probation. The unremitting shame and stigmatization that mothers convicted of killing their newborns experience is often seen as punishment enough by judges, who see no positive in putting them behind bars, researchers said.

Johnson gave birth to a boy at Bousfield Hall on the U of I campus on March 13, 2016. According to prosecutors, she killed him shortly after.

Police were involved after they were called to check on a student, Johnson, who had been inside the bathroom for a couple of hours.

In the dorm bathroom, police found evidence of childbirth. After tracking down Johnson on campus, they found the dead newborn inside of her backpack.

Jackson is no stranger to the fashion world. She’s frequently seen palling around with fellow celeb offspring Gigi and Bella Hadid and also boasts an impressive 1.1 million followers on Instagram. It was just a matter of time until a major modeling agency/brand scooped her up. She now joins the likes of the aforementioned Hadid sisters, Hailey Baldwin, Kaia and Presley Gerber, Sailor Brinkley Cook, Gabriel Kane Day-Lewis, Sistine Stallone, Georgia May Jagger, Kate Moss, and top dog Gisele Bundchen at IMG. Yeah, that’s a murderer’s row type of line up.

Jackson said on Instagram that she feels “very lucky and blessed.” Can’t argue with her there.

Not only will Jackson be joining the modeling powerhouse, but she’ll also be making her acting debut later this year. FOX announced in January that she would appear on the drama series Star, making this a banner year for the up-and-coming starlet.

Basically, this i.Con ring is a fancy way to tell you that you’re inadequate at sex. But if that wasn’t enough, the ring will pair with an app for data visualization. According to the preorder page, the ring answers the following burning (pun intended again) questions.

• Calories burnt during sexual intercourse
• Speed of thrusts
• Total number of thrusts
• Frequency of sessions
• Total duration of sessions
• Average velocity of thrusts
• Girth measurement
• Different positions used (currently BETA testing – will have more info in a release coming soon)

The ring comes complete with a one-year warranty and a micro-USB charging port to provide six to eight hours of “live” usage. Some have raised concerns about the privacy of the device, with British Condoms saying “all data will be kept anonymous, but users will have the option to share their recent data with friends, or, indeed the world.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve seen the Terminator movies like 3,678 times and this sounds dangerously close to the first step of the machine uprising. The moment to entrust a robot to safely encircle your mouse clicker is the moment you give up all control. Wake up, sheeple.

When UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson first fought at UFC 205 in November, the match ended in just the second draw in modern UFC title fight history. Janusz Korwin-Mikke, a far-right Polish politician and writer who created the Polish political party Coalition for the Renewal of the Republic, said that “women must earn less than men, because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent” during a debate on the gender pay gap at the European Parliament this week.

Korwin-Mikke, who is an independent member of the European Parliament, founded the Coalition for the Renewal of the Republic back in 2015.

According to CNN, Korwin-Mikke previously said that women should “not be allowed to vote” and was investigated for incitement to rape in 2014 over remarks he made to the European Parliament.

Iratxe Garcia Perez of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, another member of the European Parliament, immediately responded to Korwin-Mikke’s hateful remarks:

“I know it hurts and worries you that today women can sit in this house and represent European citizens with the same rights as you. I am here to defend all European women from men like you.”

According to a statement, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani has launched an investigation on the basis of Rule 11 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure.

March is here, meaning it’s officially time to watch an obscene amount of college basketball. Most causal fans wait till the NCAA Tournament to plant themselves on the couch, but true basketball aficionados know that there’s a ton of exciting action taking place in the conference tournaments. And not only are you sure to be entertained, but studying these games is how you find a bracket-busting Cinderella. Talk about a win-win scenario.

The 2017 Summit League Tournament is scheduled to run from Saturday, March 4 through Tuesday, March 7 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The favorite in the eight-team field is South Dakota, as they finished first in the regular season with a 12-4 record in conference play. It appears as if No. 1 ranked lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov may be out of his UFC 209 fight against Tony Ferguson this weekend.

UFC 209 is set to kickoff at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, March 4. Nurmagomedov, who is undefeated, and Ferguson were set to star as the co-headliners before Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson duked it out for the welterweight championship. However, Nurmagomedov was reportedly taken to the hospital just three hours before today’s weigh-in.

According to Karim Zidan of Bloody Elbow, who is reporting to Russian media outlets, Nurmagomedov was taken to the hospital to receive IV fluids. It’s likely that the hospital visit was related to the weight cut for the fight.

Nurmagomedov’s manager refused to comment.

UPDATE: 1:58 P.M. EST: Nurmagomedov’s fight against Ferguson is officially canceled.

Several media members have reported that Nurmagomedov was indeed taken to the hospital early Friday morning.

Nurmagomedov and Woodley were expected to battle for the interim lightweight title as reigning champion Conor McGregor continues to hop between the 155 and 170 divisions.

Braulio Guerra, a Mexican congressman, thinks Donald Trump’s planned border wall is so preposterous that he took literal measures to prove it.

Guerra, a congressman from Queretaro, Mexico, posted pictures to Twitter of himself and a couple of other Mexicans climbing a 30-foot fence along the border of the United States and Tijuana to prove how futile Trump’s proposed wall would be.

>Guerra called the proposed wall “absurd and unnecessary spending… that does wrong and harms our good neighborliness.”

“I was able to scale it, climb it, and sit myself right here,” Guerra said in the video. “It would be simple for me to jump into the United States, which shows that it is unnecessary and totally absurd to build a wall.”

According to CNN, an internal Department of Homeland security report put the cost of the proposed wall at around $21 billion, far higher than Trump’s estimated cost of $12 billion.

The 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic will run from Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5. The College Classic is set up for there to be six teams in the field, with three of them coming from the Big 12 and three from the SEC. Each team will play three games over the weekend against the out-of-conference opposition.

The College Classic always has some of the top teams in the country, and this year is certainly no exception. #1 TCU, #18 Texas Tech, and Baylor will represent the Big 12, while #3 LSU, #21 Ole Miss, and #15 Texas A&M are the SEC’s representatives in the 17th edition of the College Classic. Let’s hope that LSU’s Greg Deichmann can send a baseball out of a big league stadium as well.

Scottish brewer BrewDog wants to make your dreams come true by opening the world’s first craft beer hotel. The only downside? It’s in Columbus, Ohio and not here in New York.

Called “The DogHouse,” the $7.3 million dream hotel will feature man-cave amenities such as a craft beer spa with beer-based treatments, beer taps in the bedrooms, a hot tub filled with Punk IPA beer, and a beer fridge in the shower.

Even the food will have a beer spin, as breakfasts, lunches, and dinners will be beer-infused and will also be served paired with craft beers.

According to a press release from BrewDog:

• The state-of-the-art hotel, dubbed The DogHouse, will boast a craft beer spa with beer-based treatments, a craft beer tap in every room serving the brewery’s flagship beer, Punk IPA, and an in-shower beer fridge so guests can sip whilst they shower.

• Guests who stay in the luxury suite will also get to enjoy a hot tub filled with the brewer’s award-winning Punk IPA.

• The DogHouse will also serve deluxe three-course breakfasts, lunches and dinners, all infused and paired with artisanal craft beers, ensuring the beer experience lasts from dusk until dawn.

• After a groundswell of demand from the brewer’s social media community, the brewer will fast-track the project through a crowdfunding program on Indiegogo, aiming to raise $75,000 in 30 days.

• The campaign will also fund a new sour brewing facility on site, allowing BrewDog to experiment with new beer flavors and brewing techniques. Patrons of The DogHouse will not only be able to trial these new beers fresh from the brewery, but view the oak foeders (used to age sour beers) from their bedrooms.

• Visitors will also be able to take advantage of private tours of BrewDog’s new US brewing facility when it opens later this year.

• Backers of the Indiegogo campaign can bag themselves free nights at The DogHouse and also exclusively secure the first five releases from the sour beer facility.

• Those backers who give over $30,000 to the campaign will be rewarded with hosting an all-night event, be it a craft-beer themed wedding, birthday or corporate event at The DogHouse.
