Keith Wayne Boyer was shot and killed yesterday in Los Angeles. He had been with the force since 1989. Another officer, identified as Patrick Hazel, and the gunman were wounded and taken to the hospital.

Officers conducting a traffic stop about 8:30 A.M. in the area of Colima Road and Mar Vista Street in Whittier were confronted by a driver armed with a semiautomatic handgun, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Two Whittier police officers and a suspect were wounded Monday in an officer-involved shooting.

Paramedics dispatched at 8:17 a.m. to Colima Road and Mar Vista Street rushed three people to an area hospital, where their conditions were not immediately known, according to a county fire department dispatcher.

The victims were two Whittier Police Department officers and a suspect, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The shooter was a suspected gang member recently released from prison, according to authorities.

Whittier police chief Jeff Piper said that Boyer was a “personal friend of mine for 25 years.”

“He was the best of the best. He was humble, smiling, positive. He was a great guy and recently talked to me about retiring.”

The effect of the shooting will “last for years. But we’re gonna get through it. This makes us stronger. And everyone needs to know what these officers face on a daily basis,” Piper said as he became emotional. “We have been grieving since 10:00 A.M. this morning. I didn’t think I had any more tears left to cry but obviously, I do.”

Boyer was a divorced father of grown children. In his free time, he played the drums in bands, performing for non-profit events.

From now on, every major dispute should be settled with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. United Nations conflict? Bust out them hands. Rival gangs going at it? Bust out them hands. If it can work for two college lacrosse teams, it can work for anyone.

Stormy weather forced the men’s lacrosse match between Western Michigan University and Dayton Rock to be postponed, but instead of heading home, these two squads decided to declare a winner right then and there. The two teams agreed to duke it out in a classic game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to officially settle the score.

Both teams gathered around their captains in what can only be described as the greatest game of all time.

WMU’s captain came out with a sneaky play of paper, which caught Dayton Rock’s captain completely off guard as he brandished rock. The WMU team erupted in cheers as the Dayton Rock players slinked away in defeat. Victory, thy name is paper.

“One of the greatest game-ending decisions of all time,” a WMU Men’s Lacrosse spokesperson said.

“When lightning forced both teams to cancel the game tied at 0-0 the players must decide who’s the winner. In the greatest fashion of all backyard sports Rock, Paper, Scissors will decide the ‘winner’ of the game.

“Of course, this is all in good fun and sportsmanship. The players wanted to compete and have fun before everyone had to take off and go back to their respective universities.”

The actual match took place back in October but the footage only recently surfaced online and thank everything that is good in this world that it did. This is awesome not only for the ludicrous amount of importance placed on a children’s game but also for both teams agreeing to a friendly match to declare a winner. Bravo all around, boys.

I’m all for next level dime pieces (which Viki Odintcova certainly is) lighting up Instagram. But as much as I love the smokes of the world sharing their gifts with Instagram, I hate the people who literally risk their existence for Instagram likes.

So, when it comes to Odintcova, I just have to decide which emotion I feel more: my love for her looks or my hate for her stupidity. Apparently, local police felt more of the latter, as they actually arrested the Russian model.

Major General Halil Ibragim Al-Mansuri of the Dubai Police told The Sun, “The actions of the Russian woman put her life at risk.”

Gotta agree with the police on this one. A woman like this risking her life for something so inconsequential absolutely cannot stand. We want women like her on this planet for as long as possible.

Narrowing down 42 semifinalists to just 14 in Miss COED 2017 was no easy feat, but I’m confident we’ve got the best of the best heading into the finals. Sure, maybe I’m a bit biased, but these ladies are seriously awesome and each bring something new to the table.

For the past week, we’ve been highlighting all of our contestants, and next up is Cloie Luo. The freshman at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is studying Professional Land Management and hopes to head back to her hometown of Houston post graduation to attend law school. Cloie said she always had her heart set on moving to New York (and we would’ve happily taken her), but a last minute visit to ULL, her dad’s alma mater, changed her mind.

If you can’t already tell from the photo above, Cloie is amazing, but I’ll leave you with a few more fun facts about our girl reppin’ the Sun Belt before you choose your fave.

• Her favorite class so far is English. 
• Her ideal date would be Whataburger and a scary movie. Take notes, boys.

Men and women are and always should be equal. There’s no reason for anything but equality in today’s world. For that reason, colleges and universities across the country have fraternities for men and sororities for females. As these are social organizations, they are not in violation of Title IX, which stats, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Makes sense, right? But this distinction isn’t good enough for a group of students at Yale University who are demanding that women be allowed to join fraternities.

Engender, a Yale student group, is trying to convince the administration that women should be let into all-male fraternities because…reasons? They are using Title IX as the foundation of their argument and claiming that fraternities are discriminating against women.

“According to co-directors of Engender, the fraternity Sigma Nu declined the request for female and nonbinary students to attend rush events by citing the right to free association for an all-male institution. Chi Psi made an explicit note that, as per the bylaws of their national organization, females are not allowed at their rush events, Engender co-directors said. …

McGrew said that for many of the fraternities they contacted, their national bylaws were likely not specific in how they define gender requirements for recruitment versus membership. For example, SigEp’s national organization notified its Yale chapter that coed rush events would be fine as long as no females received bids, he said.

Co-directors of Engender, including McGrew, anticipated that following its recent campaign, many fraternity national organizations will define their bylaws to include more explicit gender requirements for the rush process. But from the perspective of some national organizations, only people eligible to join the fraternities are actually considered to be actively rushing.

With the conclusion of Greek life recruitment, Engender — a student group that coordinated the attendance of female students at the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon’s rush events — plans to take its course to the next stage and lobby the Yale administration to intervene in the single gender membership policies of fraternities by helping local Yale chapters navigate the gender requirement bylaws of their national organizations as well as prepare the wider student community for a social system in which more gender inclusive spaces exist on campus.”

As of now, Engender is not demanding that sororities allow males into sororities, which kind of contradicts their central argument.

Hey, if women want to drink copious amounts of alcohol, be forced to perform menial and sometimes embarrassing tasks, and learn a bunch of ancient rituals, that’s all well and good. The thing is, they can do all of that in a sorority.

Do you ever wonder how HBO’s Game of Thrones gets all of those majestic shots of Jon Snow surrounded by endless snow when he’s in the North? No, there’s no CGI trickery here. A huge chunk of the production actually takes place in freezing cold Iceland, where the cast and crew really are surrounded by endless snow. White Walkers may not be real but a cameraman stuck on a six-hour shoot in this frozen tundra is close enough to the real thing.

Well, just to give you an idea of how absolutely hellish the conditions are, here’s a report from Page Six that says Jon Snow, Ser Davos, and other GoT fan favorites are getting absolutely rolled by Iceland’s relentless freezing wind.

“Stars were said to include Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), Rory McCann (Sandor “the Hound”) and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane). They have been shooting amid 100 mph winds and a minus 25 centigrade wind chill.
A source on the set said, “Daylight is scarce here [five to six hours a day]. Super jeeps are needed to bring in equipment, and much is then transported by hand . . . The actors are made up and dressed in hotels and driven to location 90 percent ready to shoot . . . Shelter is provided by ‘Russian tents’ that are anchored down, and able to be heated, and [can] withstand 100 mph winds.”
And the winds made it hard to record the dialogue between characters. The insider continued, “High winds caused words to be ‘whipped away’ — shouting became the norm. And despite the cold, there was an issue with a lack of snow in the lowland locations.”

Just FYI, -25 centigrade wind is roughly -13F, which is pretty damn cold. I’ve never experienced 100mph winds in sub-freezing temperatures, but I can’t imagine it’s very pleasant. So, next time you see our heroes venturing out into the unforgiving Northern lands on screen and the characters look absolutely freezing and miserable, remember that they actually are. It’s all real.

Appreciate the sacrifice.

That’s all on the quarterback. He left his receiver out to dry by throwing that pass way too late and without enough zip on it. But even though that quarterback is clearly a bum, I still have to tip my cap to the vehicle. He read that play perfectly and lowered the boom like a prime Ronnie Lott. Dean will most definitely think about that menacing SUV’s presence the next time he comes over the middle. That’s how even the most fearless receivers can develop a case of alligator arms.

Football analysis aside, that was a fantastic video. Loved how we got the warning, the thunderous collision, and the concerned reaction of the cameraman in rapid succession. That trifecta is a key competent in going viral, and these guys pulled it off masterfully. Bravo, gentlemen, bravo.

It’s always nice when you can cross three checkmarks ooff of your character checklist before you ever even speak to a person. Before I actually learn anything about John Calipari’s daughter Megan, I already know three CRUCIAL things: she’s beautiful, she’s a dog lover, and she’s probably relatively rich. That’s really you can ask for these days, to be honest: a good looking chick who loves dogs and isn’t poor. Give me that, and I’ll make it work from there.

Another thing that she’s got going for her is, based on her Twitter, she don’t take no bullshit. You come after her dad, she’s coming after you. Gotta love a family girl. That’s big for us Italians, so I’m assuming the Caliparis were probably raised the same way.

When a chick loves her family, loves her dog, AND is beautiful, AND is (probably) rich, that’s what I call a grand slam. Nothing else you really need.

A bull that escaped from a Queens, New York slaughterhouse and led police on a wild chase through neighborhood streets has died, according to police.

The bull made its way down Archer Ave. and Sutphin Blvd. after escaping from Slaughter 8 on Beaver Rd. around 10:30 A.M., police sources said. The animal was also seen on Liberty Ave. and 150th St., officials and witnesses said.

After remaining on the loose for nearly two hours, the bull was cornered by the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit in a backyard on 158th St.

The bull, which was seen with at least a dozen tranquilizer darts in its side over the course of the miles-long chase, died at some point before 2:30 P.M., nearly three hours after it escaped a Beaver Road slaughterhouse and went on a free-for-all through Queens, ducking cops in Jamaica and South Ozone Park.

The bull’s cause of death wasn’t made immediately clear. City officials had no further comment.

University of Michigan student Jake Schreiman finished in last place in his fantasy football league, so he was forced to do a shot-for-shot remake of Cassie’s 2006 smash hit “Me & U.” Watch Jacob bust out some elite dance moves in the video below.

That was a real solid effort from Jake. I especially enjoyed him getting close enough to cause the camera lens to fog up, dumping water on himself, and kissing his own reflection. He actually managed to make Alex Rodriguez’s infamous photo shoot seem normal with that move.

These types of fantasy football reenactment videos are all the rage these days. From Sia’s “Chandelier” music video to the speech from Any Given Sunday, I’ve seen tons of these things. But even though they’ve lost some of their novelty, I still always love checking them out. Because no matter how saturated the marketplace gets, fantasy football and embarrassing your buddies will never go out of style. They are practices as timeless as Cassie bangers.

With the NBA Trade Deadline just two days away, the Los Angeles Lakers decided now would be a great time to fire their top basketball executives, promote Magic Johnson to president of basketball operations and just free ball without a general manager for a while. Hmm…

We’re not saying that all was fine and dandy in Laker land with the current leadership structure; Los Angeles is on pace for its fourth consecutive losing season. We’re just not quite sure Magic Johnson is the right guy for the job. Let’s take a quick look at some of the, ahem, expert opinions he’s expressed recently.

If you’ll remember, Fisher retired as an NBA player after the 2013-2014 season…and was immediately hired by the New York Knicks as head coach that summer despite zero coaching experience. You know, because hiring a guy who has never proven he can do the job always works out! He signed a five-year, $25 million deal and promptly went 40-96 (.294) in one and a half seasons.

Looking back on it, Magic, maybe the Fisher hire wasn’t such a “great move.”

Desperate for some talent around Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks traded promising youngster Jae Crowder, a first- and second-round pick and some spare parts to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Rajon Rondo in 2014. Admittedly, at the time, Rondo hadn’t gone full Houdini on us just yet. But many were skeptical that acquiring a mercurial pass-first point guard who had given up on defense was going to be the move that made the Mavs a contender.

Surprise, surprise: Rondo lasted just 46 games with the Mavs before the team suspended him indefinitely and allowed him to walk in free agency. They finished He averaged just 9 points and 6.5 assists during his time in Big D. Those aren’t quite contender numbers.

Dion Waiters has always been a me first, scoring guard. While the Thunder were looking for some extra offensive oomph at the time of this deal, Waiters never quite fit in to their team culture. He pouted when he didn’t get the ball, disrupted locker room chemistry and got absolutely torched on defense.

In two seasons with OKC, Waiters never averaged more than 12.7 points nor did he make a significant impact in the postseason.

Oof, this one hurts. I’ll just say Jimmer Fredette is currently paying in Chine and leave it at that.

An active shooter was reported at the Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas. However, police have since said that they have found no evidence of a shooter or victims following an extensive search.

Police said they were responding to a report of an active shooter at the hospital earlier today. One media outlet reported that an active shooter had barricaded himself on the second floor. The entire hospital was evacuated and dramatic footage featuring patients and doctors fleeing the hospital could be seen on several newsfeeds.

A separate report later said that the shooter was actually barricaded on the third floor of the hospital. According to a law enforcement source, around 3 P.M. CST, “An active shooter has been cornered in Ben Taub Hospital as the Houston SWAT team responded to reports of shots fired inside the building.”

Police have since given a briefing stating that no shooter or victims had been discovered.
