Penn State Revokes Beta Theta Pi Fraternity Recognition

$

As the State College Police Department continues its criminal investigation of the death of Timothy Piazza at the Penn State chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the university has revoked their recognition.

While the Police Department conducts their investigation, the Office of Student Conduct is conducting its own, focusing on the University’s Code of Student Conduct and behavioral expectations for the fraternities.

Via PSU.edu:

Based on information gained through its inquiry thus far, the University has decided to withdraw immediately recognition of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. This revocation will remain in effect no less than five years and may be made permanent upon completion of the criminal and University investigations now underway. The University’s decision to withdraw recognition is made in concert with the fraternity’s national headquarters.

“We cannot suitably convey the heartbreak we feel for the family and friends who are grieving the loss of Tim Piazza,” said Damon Sims, Penn State’s vice president for Student Affairs. “The information available to us about the actions that led to Tim’s death is deeply disturbing, and no sanction or restriction the University can levy is equal to the gravity of his death or the circumstances which we believe led to it.”

Loss of recognition means that the Beta Theta Pi chapter and its members are no longer part of the Greek community at Penn State and have been stripped of any and all privileges that come with fraternal recognition.

However, the Beta house is private property and the chapter is a private association.

Meet Miss COED 2017 Finalist, Carly Tennes From NYU

We met Carly last year after Miss COED 2016 had already begun, but we liked her so much we encouraged her to submit for 2017. Nearly a year later, this lady is a finalist and rightfully so.

Each of our Miss COED 2017 contestants are smart, fun, school-spirited, and overall a great representation of her university.

At NYU, Carly is majoring in Journalistic, Multimedia, and Creative Storytelling – a major she created herself – and has worked on a ton of unique projects. Her most recent was a film that was featured at the Sundance Film Festival.

Although Carly sounds super badass already, I’ll leave you with a few more fun facts about our girl reppin’ Wildcard East. No, this conference isn’t in the NCAA (because we made it up), but we had to extend this awesome opportunity to everyone, right?!

  • NYU has been her dream school since she was 13 years old.
  • Her favorite late-night study snack is a raw avocado…I wish I could be that healthy, TBH.
  • She hates when people see you running for the elevator but don’t hold the door. Same. 🙌
  • She wants to be Miss COED 2017 because she “likes what COED stands for.” Hell-freakin’ yeah!

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday, February 22 to vote in the finals of Miss COED 2017. You’ll be able to vote for multiple girls once a day for two weeks, so make your voices heard. With your help, one of these ladies – maybe Carly! – will take the top prize.

Rising Stars Challenge 2017: Rosters, Teams & Lineup

Rising Stars Challenge Rosters

NBA All-Star Weekend is finally upon us, basketball fans. Things will kick off with the All-Star Celebrity Game, but the real gem tonight is the Rising Stars Game, which features the NBA’s best rookies and sophomores. Who has received the highest honor of being deemed a rising star? So glad you asked.

This year, the Rising Stars Game has been split into the USA roster (populated by American players, obviously) and the World roster. Check out who made the cut.

USA Roster

  • Devin Booker (Sophomore, Phoenix Suns)
  • Malcolm Brogdon (Rookie, Milwaukee Bucks)
  • Marquese Chriss (Rookie, Phoenix Suns)
  • Brandon Ingram (Sophomore, Los Angeles Lakers)
  • Frank Kaminsky (Sophomore, Charlotte Hornets)
  • Jahlil Okafor (Sophomore, Philadelphia 76ers)
  • D’Angelo Russell (Sophomore, Los Angeles Lakers)
  • Jonathan Simmons (Sophomore, San Antonio Spurs)
  • Karl-Anthony Towns (Sophomore, Minnesota Timberwolves)
  • Myles Turner (Sophomore, Indiana Pacers)

World Roster

  • Joel Embiid (Rookie, Philadelphia 76ers)
  • Dante Exum (Sophomore, Utah Jazz)
  • Buddy Hield (Rookie, New Orleans Pelicans)
  • Nikola Jokic (Sophomore, Denver Nuggets)
  • Trey Lyles (Sophomore, Utah Jazz)
  • Emmanuel Mudiay (Sophomore, Denver Nuggets)
  • Jamal Murray (Rookie, Denver Nuggets)
  • Kristaps Porzingis (Sophomore, New York Knicks)
  • Dario Saric (Rookie, Philadelphia 76ers)
  • Alex Abrines (Rookie, Oklahoma City Thunder)
  • Willy Hernangomez (Rookie, New York Knicks)

You’ll notice that the 76ers, Nuggets, and Lakers all have multiple players who were named Rising Stars. This isn’t too surprising as all three teams are in the midst of a rebuild and stocking the cupboard with young talent they can develop. We’ll have to wait and see which team breaks through first to leverage that young talent into actual wins on the court. As of now, the Nuggets look to be in the best shape as they hold a narrow grasp on the last playoff seed in the West.

The Knicks also have two players in the game tonight, but no one quite knows what is going on in New York, so it’s hard to comfort them with positive takeaways.

The Rising Stars Game will begin at 9:00 P.M. EST.

Silicon Valley HBO Season 4 Trailer

For those of you who like laughing and smiling (like any normal human being), HBO’s Silicon Valley is the perfect show. The hilarious half-hour comedy has provided plenty of time-wasting YouTube rabbit hole opportunities for bored employees all across the country and now it’s returning for a fourth season. Huzzah!

Silicon Valley will be back on the air starting Sunday, April 23 at 10:00 P.M. EST. What’s more, HBO released a LOL-inducing trailer for the new season, which you can watch below.

(God bless Jared and his lovable, entertaining manic energy. You go, Jared. Never change.)

HBO also unveiled a new image from the season, which you can see below. It’s a good one in the sense that it features a bunch of characters standing around their computers and just generally doing their thing. For anyone who watches the show, you already know that’s a good thing. Why mess with a winning formula, you know?

Silicon Valley Reveals Season 4 Trailer & Premiere Date

HBO

For all of you people who haven’t seen Silicon Valley, maybe because moments of levity actually cause you pain, here is the official series synopsis:

“Partially inspired by co-creator Mike Judge’s experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the 1980s, this comedy series follows the misadventures of introverted computer programmer Richard and his brainy friends as they attempt to strike it rich in a high-tech gold rush. They live together in a Bay Area startup incubator loosely run by self-satisfied dot-com millionaire Erlich, who lets them stay in his house rent-free in exchange for a stake in the projects they invent there. But when Richard develops a powerful search algorithm at his day job, he finds himself caught in the middle of a bidding war between his boss — whose firm offers Richard an eight-figure buyout — and a deep-pocketed venture capitalist.”

WATCH: Cornerman Saves MMA Fighter From Guillotine Choke At SFL

MMA Dennis Hallman Hannah Kampf Super Fight League

Having quality referees is important in Mixed Martial Arts because it can prevent serious injuries or, you know, death. Unfortunately, not all referees are created equally.

Super Fight League, India’s top MMA promotion, pitted Asha Roka and Hannah Kampf against one another recently. Early in the fight, Roka catches Kampf in a tight guillotine as one is wont to do in MMA. Kampf quickly goes unconscious from the chokehold and one would think the fight would end right then and there. Well, one would be wrong.

We don’t know if the angle threw off the referee or if he was just plain old incompetent, but he didn’t stop the fight at that time and Roka continued to hold the choke. Thankfully, Kampf’s cornerman Dennis Hallman recognizes what’s happening and rushes into the cage to stop the fight himself.

Check it out.

When the brain is deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time, you suffer brain damage. That’s basic physiology that all MMA referees should know. Normally, fighters tap out or the fight is stopped long before a chokehold can become dangerous. We don’t know what this ref was smoking but Kampf was still in that guillotine well after she had gone to sleep. Luckily, Hallman is a UFC veteran and quickly stepped in before any serious damage could be done.

As a reward, Hallman should be allowed to choke out the ref to teach him a lesson. It’s only fair.

The A-10 leading VCU Rams (21-5, 11-2 A-10)  are set to battle it out with the Richmond Spiders (15-10, 9-4 A-10)  in the Capital City Classic. The Rams are currently two games ahead of the Spiders in the conference standings, but that can all change at the Robins Center tonight.

VCU is riding a seven-game winning streak after taking down St. Joes this past Tuesday. Richmond, on the other hand, is not quite as hot, coming off of a rough loss to George Mason earlier in the week, 93-70. Despite the record differences, expect Richmond to go all out against their divisional foe in this classic rivalry game. VCU squeaked out an 81-74 win at home against the Spiders just a few weeks ago.

The Rams have become powerhouses in the Atlantic Ten and frequent players in the NCAA tournament, but the Spiders are no stranger to the “Big Dance” either. This season VCU has been able to get it done on both sides of the ball and are led by senior guard JeQuan Lewis, who just put up 34 points on St. Joes.

Winning the A-10 conference tournament creates an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and tonight’s game poses the perfect opportunity for Richmond to get back on track. The Spiders are certainly the underdog in this match-up, but anything can happen in conference play, especially between rivals. You probably won’t want to miss this one, so here are all of the ways to catch the game.

We’ve got one helluva college basketball matinee on tap for Saturday, as the Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Waco to take on the Baylor Bears. It will be an interesting clash of styles between these two National Championship contenders, with Kansas boasting a high-scoring offense and Baylor having a lockdown defense. The Jayhawks average 83.5 points per game (17th in NCAA), while the Bears give up only 62.2 points per game (12 in NCAA).

The #3 ranked Jayhawks (23-3, 11-2 Big 12) are in great shape to win their astonishing 13th straight Big 12 regular season conference championship, as they are two games up on second place Baylor. This would tie UCLA for the most consecutive regular season conference titles in NCAA history. Kansas is coming off a huge 84-80 home win over #9 West Virginia. The Jayhawks were able to avenge the 85-69 ass-kicking West Virginia gave them at their place back in January.

The #4 ranked Bears (22-4, 9-4 Big 12) have faltered as of late, dropping three of their last five games. They lost their most recent game as well, taking a disappointing 84-78 road loss against Texas Tech. Baylor’s skid started with a 73-68 loss on the road to Kansas, so they will most definitely be fired up for today’s game.

Now that you know a little bit about the matchup, let’s break down all of the ways you can watch the game.

It’s a three day weekend (holla!), so what better way to kick it off than by introducing you to one of our incredible Miss COED 2017 finalists?!

We met Victoria Niles back in August, and TBH she’s like a freakin’ ray of sunshine. No, not just because she’s blonde. Maybe being in NYC surrounded by a**holes has me jaded, but she’s super excited to be a part of this competition, and we’re lucky to have her.

The senior at Michigan State University is majoring in Interdisciplinary Health Services and Nursing with a minor in Gerontology. In other words, she wants to become a nurse and eventually own her own nursing home. How adorable is that?!

I know she sounds like an incredible lady already, but before you make a decision, I’ll leave you with a few more fun facts about our girl reppin’ MAC.

  • She has a TON of school pride and loves cheering on the WMU Broncos.
  • She hates when people show up late.
  • She’s been through a lot and would like to win Miss COED 2017 to motivate others to push through hard times and follow their dreams.
  • Her ideal date would be drinking margaritas and eating tacos. 🙌🙌

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday, February 22 to vote in the finals of Miss COED 2017. You’ll be able to vote for multiple girls once a day for two weeks, so make your voices heard. With your help, one of these ladies – maybe Victoria! – will take the top prize.

Big Sean Slapped At New York Autograph Signing

Last night, Big Sean had a meet-and-greet autograph session at an F.Y.E in Ridgewood, Queens to promote his new album I Decided. Unfortunately for him, the event was cut short after he got slapped in the face. Watch the nutjob get apprehended in the video below.

At least Big Sean just got some inspiration for a “Bounce Back” remix. “Last night got slapped in my goddamn face, but tonight I bounce back.”

I’ve been surfing the web like crazy trying to find a video of the actual slap, but I think we’re out of luck. That guy must really f*cking hate Big Sean, though. Can you imagine shelling out hard-earned money and standing in a boring ass line just to slap somebody? And knowing that you’re going to get arrested afterwards for your actions?

Negatively affecting your own life in such a drastic way just to cause bodily harm to a perfect stranger is such a ruthless move that I can’t help but respect it.

Man Gets Knocked Out Cold In Scary Sledding Accident

There was nothing more fun as a young buck than sledding on a snow day. Building ramps, linking sleds together to form giant trains, and flying down hills on Snow Tubes, as they were clearly the GOAT and this is not up for debate.

But even though sledding will always hold a special place in my heart, you still gotta be careful out there. This video is a public service announcement warning everybody of the dangers of shredding some fresh powder.

Goddamn, that was brutal. I definitely wasn’t expecting such an intense accident. When I first clicked on the video, I thought he was going to hit his head on plaid jacket’s shovel. I assumed he would take a relatively harmless spill, the collision would produce a funny sound, and we’d have the next viral shovel video on our hands.

But nope, he got lit the f*ck up by that tree. Be safe this winter, everybody. Give yourself some distance from trees and make sure not to apply any kitchen lubricant prototypes to your sleds.

Bellator will host one of the more entertaining heavyweight battles in recent memory on Saturday. Legendary Russkie fighter Fedor Emelianenko (36-4-1) will make his Bellator debut against Matt Mitrione (11-5) in a better-late-than-never matchup.

Emelianenko, 40, is past his prime and not the same fighter who went 28 straight bouts without losing between 2001 and 2009. However, he is one of the greatest fighters in MMA history with an explosive and entertaining fighting style. “The Last Emperor” has a horde of loyal fans that will be sure to tune in, which is good news for Bellator as the organization is still considered a little brother to the more popular UFC.

Emelianenko has put together back-to-back wins since his return for a three-year retirement and looks to extend his winning streak to six consecutive fights. Will Mitrione become just another notch in that belt or will he send the Hall of Famer back into retirement? Stay tuned.

We managed to make it to the weekend, so as a reward, I’m going to introduce you to one of our awesome Miss COED 2017 finalists. You’re welcome!

We met Olivia Penna back in October when she was just about a month into her college experience, but she’s already taking advantage of everything Colorado State University has to offer. She’s a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and loves working with their philanthropy, CASA.

As a Health and Exercise Science major with a concentration in Sports Medicine, she’s determined to become a “successful physical therapist,”  and we think she’s definitely on the right track. She also completed a semester-long internship at Steadman Hawkins during her senior year of high school. Say what?!

Although she’s clearly awesome, I’ll leave you with a few more fun facts about our girl reppin’ MWC before you make a decision.

  • Her favorite class so far is Health and Wellness.
  • She wants to be Miss COED 2017 to show her passion for CSU and to prove to herself and others that all of her hard work in school and extracurricular activities has paid off.
  • The people she looks up to most are her parents.
  • Her favorite late-night study snack is apples with peanut butter.

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday, February 22 to vote in the finals of Miss COED 2017. You’ll be able to vote for multiple girls once a day for two weeks, so make your voices heard. With your help, one of these ladies – maybe Olivia! – will take the top prize.

The 2017 NBA Skills Challenge is a competition involving speed, ball-handling, passing, and shooting. This will be the 15th edition of the contest, and we might be starting to see a changing of the guard. In 2016, Karl-Anthony Towns became the first big man to ever win the NBA Skills Challenge, breaking the 13-year shutout.

There is a decent chance that we’ll see another forward or center bring home the trophy this year, as the field consists of four guards and four big men. Here’s the list of players competing in this year’s Skills Challenge, complete with their gambling odds courtesy of Sportsbook.

NBA Skills Challenge Odds

Isaiah Thomas (Celtics): +200
John Wall (Wizards): +240
Devin Booker (Suns): +400
Gordon Hayward (Jazz): +800
Anthony Davis (Pelicans): +1000
Kristaps Porzingis (Knicks): +1000
DeMarcus Cousins (Kings): +1500
Nikola Jokic (Nuggets): +1500

Two of the country’s premier college basketball programs are set to face off tonight, as the Virginia Cavaliers will head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. These two teams play vastly different styles of basketball, with Virginia boasting a stifling defense and North Carolina having a dynamic offense. North Carolina scores 87.7 points per game (6th in NCAA), while Virginia holds teams to just 55.5 points per game (1st in NCAA).

The #14 ranked Cavaliers (18-7, 8-5 ACC) have really been struggling as of late, dropping two straight and four of their last six games. But in Virginia’s defense, two of those losses came against top-15 teams (Villanova and Duke), and they did beat #4 Louisville 71-55 over this stretch.

The #10 ranked Tar Heels (22-5, 10-3 ACC) are currently in first place in the ACC, but there are three teams with 9-4 records in conference play nipping at their heels (Duke, Florida State, and Louisville). North Carolina bounced back from a tough 86-78 road loss to the Blue Devils to win their most recent game, cruising to a 97-73 road victory over NC State.

Now that you know a little bit about the matchup, let’s break down all of the ways you can watch the game.

This GIF Of Sara Underwood In A Life Jacket Is Mind-Blowing

On Friday, Sara Underwood posted a GIF to Instagram that was so sexy that it nearly killed me. I thought I was going to have a heart attack, and to be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have even been too upset about it. Everybody has to die of something, and passing away from a cleavage overdose sounds like a pretty good way to go.

Check out the spectacular GIF from Sara’s shoot in Oahu, Hawaii.

Instagram Photo

Unreal. If you somehow don’t follow Sara on Instagram, please right that horrible wrong ASAP. 6.9 million people already do, and trust me when I say that they are not disappointed. And how could you be? All Sara does is constantly post photos, videos, and GIFs of her being virtually naked in beautiful locations. Sara’s formula is simple, but it works every goddamn time. She’s got the peanut butter and jelly of sultry Instagram accounts.

The NBA saves the best for last when it comes to their All-Star Saturday Night, as the Slam Dunk Contest will close out tonight’s festivities. The first professional dunk contest took place in the ABA all the way back in 1976, and Julius Erving was crowned victorious after dunking from the free-throw line.

There wouldn’t be another professional dunk contest until Larry Nance won the inaugural NBA version during the 1984 All-Star Weekend. Nate Robinson is the only player to ever win the Slam Dunk Contest three times, but we all know that Vince Carter is still the GOAT.

In a bummer of epic proportions, Zach LaVine will not be able to go for the three-peat tonight. LaVine won the 2015 and 2016 Slam Dunk Contests, but unfortunately, he tore the ACL in his left knee earlier this season. LaVine and Aaron Gordon put on a show for the ages last year.

Now that you know a little bit about the Slam Dunk Contest, let’s break down the field and all of the ways you can watch the high-flying action.

NBA Slam Dunk Contest Participants

Aaron Gordon (Magic): -180
Derrick Jones Jr. (Suns): +160
DeAndre Jordan (Clippers): +1000
Glenn Robinson III: (Pacers): +1200
