A Kansas City Police Officer, who we now know as Captain Dave Melton, has been shot and killed today. At first it was believed that the officer who was in critical condition might survive, but we just learned that’s no longer the case. What Happened?

Shortly before 2 PM today, a police officer attempted to stop a person they believed had been involved in an armed disturbance earlier in the day. Multiple shots were fired at the officer and they were hit. Police were advised over the radio that an officer was down at 1:58 PM.

Police Captain Robert Dave Melton, an officer on duty in Kansas City, Kansas, was shot and killed today in the line of duty. According to reports, Capt. Melton was trying to apprehend a man believed to be involved in an armed dispute when he responded to a call by himself. While responding to that call, Capt. Melton was shot and injured at 1:58 PM. He was taken to the hospital where it was announced that he was in critical condition.

A search is still ongoing for the suspect who shot him.

What Happened?

At around 1:30 PM today, police responded to a call about an armed disturbance at Second Street and Edgerton Drive. According to the 911 call they were responding to, a group of people in a car had fired shots at the caller. Police arrived at the scene within three minutes, causing the passengers within a suspected car to flee on foot.

One of the suspects was caught and arrested.

Just before 2:00 PM, Captain Melton was tried to stop another suspect believed to have been involved in the shooting. That’s when he was shot. Melton was taken to the hospital while FBI and KCK police forces gathered to apprehend the suspect.

Police swarmed the area with dozens of officers, some with rifles. Several police were taking cover behind cars at 16th and Quindaro by 2:30 p.m. A woman at a house there came out of a home with her hands up. Several officers were kneeling down in the street with their guns drawn toward the home. It was unknown what connection the house has to the shooting.

Who Was He?

Captain Robert Melton was a civil servant who had served Kansas City as a police officer from 1990 until today. He had been a captain since May 2015.

Our thoughts are with Captain Melton’s family, friends, and the rest of the officers in Kansas City. He is the second police officer in KC to be killed in the same number of months.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the Republican National Convention is going down this week in Cleveland. You know what other convention is happening this week? Comic-Con. And I’m willing to be there is more collective intelligence at Comic-Con than there is at Clown-Con (the RNC). Am I the only one who’s hoping this thing is only being televised in the States? So let’s recap what’s happened so far this weeek. You’ve got Trump walking out like he just signed a contract with the WWE. There’s an army of attractive Trump family members being paraded on stage to hypnotize everyone (Melania, Vanessa, Ivanka). Stephen Colbert is running wild. A Republican delegate is screaming “No Islam” in the middle of the f*cking convention center. Ben Carson essentially called Hillary Clinton a devil worshipper (which, in fairness, has yet to be confirmed nor denied). Hell, even George DubYah Bush thinks it’s the end of the Republican party. And let’s not forget, Melania Trump’s painfully familiar speech. Look, I’m not saying the DNC is gonna be any prettier, but if the RNC is setting the bar this high, the Democrats have a lot to live up to. Or down to. Honestly I don’t know which way is up in this country anymore.

Anyway, about Mrs. Trump’s (Version 3.0) speech. A lot of people to were quick to point out that there were parts of it that were a blatant rip off of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech, and it was. But I’ll also be the first person to say that I don’t think it’s Melania’s fault in the slightest. She has a team of highly paid speech writers who clearly aren’t good at their job. Either they knew about the similarities between the speeches, and let her read it anyway, which is bad. Or they had no idea about the similarities, which is also bad. Either way, get it together people.

The Washingtonian did the only logical thing to do in this situation: run her speech through one of those college plagiarism systems. Ya know, the same ones that bent you over the table in college. And what it found was pretty, pretty scathing:

“The first half of the excerpt came in at 46 percent non-unique, while the next few sentences registered at 44 percent non-unique. In other words, the program noticed a level of similarity far beyond the usual coincidences that may occur in writing.”

According to Turnitin (AKA the mortal enemy of college students):

“The “likelihood that a 16-word match is ‘just a coincidence’ is less than 1 in a trillion.” Melania Trump’s longest match? 23 words.”

Yeah, she would have definitely failed and violated her schools code of ethics if this were college. Luckily she’s not trying to pass any college courses, but becomes the First Lady of the United States. No big deal …

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been blessing us with their genius for almost two decades now. South Park went from crude shock laughs to a genuinely poignant, politically relevant comedy. Whenever something happens in American culture, most people my age are curious as to what South Park thinks about it.

People sometimes forget, though, that in between the birth of South Park, and the massive cultural juggernaut it has become, was Team America: World Police. While not the sweeping success that South Park and The Book of Mormon, Team America was nonetheless essential Parker and Stone.

One of the funniest aspects of Team America was the apparent mental retardation of Matt Damon. Surprisingly enough, this was actually not the plan for Damon’s character What had actually happened was that the Damon puppet came in, well, disfigured, and they didn’t have time to fix it before they started filming. So, instead, they decided to make Damon mentally retarded. If that ain’t South Park, I don’t know what is.  Via IMDB:

It’s been over a decade since Team America came into our lives, and after all this time, no one has ever really known what the real life Matt Damon thinks about the whole thing. He’s Matt Damon, he’s a hella chill bro. So one would only imagine he loved it as much as we did, right? Well, kinda. The word he used was during his Reddit AMA was ‘bewildered’, which I think is a very reasonable reaction to his character in the movie. Via Reddit:

I was always kind of bewildered by Team America, I think because it’s hard for us to understand what our images are in public, I think we’re not good judges of that, and when I saw myself on screen just only able to say my own name and not really that well, I kind of wondered “Wow, is that how people perceive me?” At that point I just kind of was like, I’m a screenwriter and an actor, and like really? I can barely say my own name? So I was always bewildered by that, and I never talked to Trey and Matt about that. And Incidentally, I believe those two are geniuses, and I don’t use that word lightly. I think they are absolute geniuses, and what they’ve done is awesome and I’m a big fan of theirs, but I never quite understood that one. But I will say this. Those of us who were parodied in that video were parodied because we were against the Iraq war, and we went on the record against that war, and so history is on my side not theirs.

Olympic legend Michael Phelps has often been hailed as the greatest athlete of all time. Despite all the wins (18 gold medals) and accolades, the swimmer just sees himself as exactly that – a swimmer. Looking back on his career, Phelps said, “I only saw myself as a swimmer. That’s it. Micheal Phelps began swimming at the age of seven. Eight years later, he made the U.S. Summer Olympic Team in 2000, at just 15-years-old. Phelps was the youngest person to make the team in 70 years. He may not have won a medal in Sydney, but he definitely caught the eye of the world as “one to watch” in Athens.

By his second and third Olympic games, he was hauling home medals like it was nobody’s business. Phelps won 17 medals including six gold and two silver at Athens and scored eight gold in Beijing, the latter of which broke the record set by Mark Spitz for most gold medals won in a single Olympics competition.

At the end of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, his incredible performance sent international media outlets into overdrive. Smashing world records seven times over, Michael Phelps became the biggest swimming star the world had ever seen.

Phelps earned an estimated $7 million annually in the years following Beijing, mainly from endorsements. To make ends meet, he also took on side gigs, one being swimming a few laps at a party for a small fee of $100,000.

After the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Phelps received a $1 million bonus from his sponsor Speedo for his spectacular performance. He used the money to found the Michael Phelps Foundation, which helps kids get into swimming.

The successes didn’t stop there for him. At the 2012 London Olympics, Phelps won another four gold medals and two silver medals, and he earned a reputed $12 million in annual sponsorships in the years following the games. Visa, PowerBar, Omega, Subway and Speedo are just some of the brands Phelps repped. His agent once speculated he could earn $100 million from endorsements.

In the realm of real estate, Phelps sold his Baltimore condo in 2009 for $1.5 million and bought an impressive Newport Beach, California mansion for an undisclosed price. Rumor has it the seaside home cost the swimmer at least $8 million.

One young man in Baltimore has got to be feeling pretty embarrassed after he was caught on video crashing into a police car while playing Pokemon Go. Thankfully, no one was physically hurt–it’s just egos that were bruised. The whole thing happened after a pair of officers who had just responded to a call were headed back to their police vehicle. They then heard, saw and captured on their bodycams a teenager sideswiping their car.

Quick Lesson Time!!! Personally, I’m not so sure that it was such a good idea to tell the officers that you had been playing Pokemon Go. As we’ve said before, talking to the police without a lawyer present is a recipe for added charges. Now instead of just a car accident, the BPD could charge him with a distracted driving charge.

This is the second car crashed involved with the hit game Pokemon Go. The first one happened when a distracted driver crashed into a tree.

Matilda Rapaport, one of the world’s best freestyle skiers, reportedly died in the Andes mountains while filming for the upcoming videogame Steep. The game was unveiled at E3 and was one of the most anticipated games that we saw. One of the aspects we enjoyed the most about it was Ubisoft’s unflinching dedication to bringing realistic, high-octane sports to the living room. To do that, they hired some of the best extreme athletes in the world to capture mountains, the skies, and the rest of the in-game environments.

Swedish skier Matilda was one of these athletes. Along with GoPro and RedBull, Matilda was shredding the Andes mountains in Chile when she was caught in a terrible avalanche. Although she was eventually fished out, she succumbed to the multiple head injuries and oxygen deprivation.

Thursday, July 21

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. –  DreamWorks Animation will introduce their latest film, Trolls. Chris Hardwick will moderate the panel, and it will feature actors Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, as well as director Mike Mitchell, co-director Walt Dohrn, and producer Gina Shay.

11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. –  Director Oliver Stone and actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scott Eastwood, Shailene Woodley, and Zachary Quinto will discuss the upcoming Open Road Films biopic about Edward Snowden, which is the aptly-titled Snowden.

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – This will be the first public sneak peak of the science fiction film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Josh Horowitz will moderate the panel that will include director Luc Besson, producer Virginie Besson-Silla and actors Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.

Mr. Robot came out if nowhere last summer to become a massive hit. USA Network doesn’t have many critically acclaimed shows, especially one that premieres during the summer, but Mr. Robot defied those odds and became a massive critical and commercial success. In fact, it won the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, and what nominated for the at the 2016 Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series.

Mr. Robot is an American drama–thriller television series created by Sam Esmail. It stars Rami Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer and hacker. Alderson suffers from social anxiety disorder and clinical depression. Alderson is recruited by an insurrectionary anarchist known as “Mr. Robot”, played by Christian Slater, to join a group of hacktivists. The group aims to cancel all debts by attacking the large corporation E Corp.

The pilot premiered on multiple online and on demand services on May 27, 2015, and the series was renewed for a second season before the first season premiered on USA Network on June 24, 2015. The 12-episode second season premiered on July 13, 2016.

Now she’s busy chasing dreams of a National Championship, and although the Blue Devils lost to PSU in the Finals, the good news is that Morgan is going to have two more years to get what she wants. Speaking of what she wants, there’s a very good chance that you can see more of Morgan on a USWNT in the near future. It has been revealed that the person for writing Melania Trump Republican National Convention speech is speechwriter Meredith McIver. In a statement, McIver admits her mistake, says while she offered her resignation, Donald Trump rejected it. This is no regular staff speechwriter, however, as McIver has been a ghostwriter for 4 Trump novels: Trump: Think Like a Billionaire with Donald J. Trump, Trump 101: The Way to Success with Donald J. Trump , A Pocket Guide To Trump: How To Get Rich, and Trump Never Give Up with Donald J. Trump.

What Happened?

During Melania Trump’s speech during the 2016 Republican National Convention, viewers began to take notice that her speech was strikingly similar to Michelle Obama’s 2008 DNC speech. The speech in fact did have multiple stolen lines, and Meredith McIver had to take the blame.

Who Is Meredith McIver?

Meredith McIver is an author who has ghostwritten several books for Donald Trump. She is a former ballet dancer and an English major. She is an in-house staff writer for the Trump Organization, and is the woman responsible for Melania Trump’s plagiarized Republican National Conventional speech.

According to Speakerpedia: Meredith McIver has been a member of The Trump Organization since September of 2001. Prior to that she worked on Wall Street. Originally from San Jose, California, Meredith started her career at age 14 as a Ford Foundation Scholar, when she began training at George Balachine’s School of American Ballet. She graduated with honors from the University of Utah in English, and has worked as an editor and writer.

My name is Meredith McIver and I’m an in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization. I am also a longtime friend and admirer of the Trump Family.

In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we discussd many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always like is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and late included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speech. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.

Got to hand it to the Trump campaign for taking this massive mistake and using it as spin to make Trump seem compassionate. The dude used to have a TV where he was famous for ruthlessly firing people, and now he’s Mr. Compassion Understanding? Well played, Trump campaign, well played indeed.

Jeremy Lin, the NBA’s favorite Asian-American basketball player, has one thing (and one thing only in common) with Allen Iverson: they both have worn cornrows at some point in their life. We think AI is done with the look (although it’s tough to tell because he’s always wearing a hat), but it seems as though Jeremy Lin is just starting to come into them.

Bri’onte Dunn, Ohio State University’s most veteran running back, has been kicked off the team. Although the OSU team only offered that he had been released because he violated team rules, The Columbus Dispatch reports that Dunn’s girlfriend called the police after he punched her in the mouth. “My boyfriend hit me really bad,” the unidentified woman cried to the 911 operator. “My lip is bleeding and I have a black eye.”

Dunn’s girlfriend called the police, saying “my boyfriend hit me really bad.” The woman is accusing Dunn striking her in the mouth and choking her. She told police Dunn left her with a bloody lip and black eye. [source]

Keep in mind that this is only an accusation, and that Dunn hasn’t been tried for anything. Still, t goes without saying, but while it’s tragic when any man attacks a woman, it’d be somehow more tragic for Bri’onte who waited for four years to earn his starting spot as a fifth-year senior, only to lose it with one stupid decision.

No criminal charges have been made, although a protective order against Bri’onte was filed by his former girlfriend.

Who Is Bri’onte Dunn?

Bri’onte Dunn was a former OSU running back who was released from the team on Sunday. He graduated from Canton GlenOak High School and was named First-Team Division I all-state. It is believed that he would have battled against red shirt freshman Mike Weber for the starting spot on OSU’s 2016-2017 season.

The Dark Knight came out 8 years ago on Monday, and Suicide Squad comes out in the next few weeks, so Joker fever is at a recent high. The Joker is one of the most famous figures in American pop culture, so much so that Jared Leto compared him to a Shakespearean character. Taking on the mantle of this iconic role is no laughing matter (pun totally intended).

Anyway, this video pit all the different versions of the Joker against each other to try and determine which is the best. And it pulls absolutely no punches.

I’ll admit that even though the aesthetics of this new Joker can take a little getting used to, I can’t wait to see what Leto does with the character. While Heath Ledger will probably remain the greatest portrayal of all time, Leto’s may be the most true to the character. Reports are saying this version is a full blown murdering psychopath, where as Ledger’s was more of an anarchist, and Nicholson’s was more of, well, Jack Nicholson.

Obviously terrorists are at the top of that list, but a somewhat distant second are people watching videos of terrorists hijacking planes. We’re not talking “Hollywood movie hijackings” (a la Air Force One), we’re talking people like this weirdo watching videos of 9/11 right before taking off.

Because seriously, WHO DOES THAT? The same person who’d watch a horizontal video vertically, that’s who.

OK, so because I started something at the beginning of the post, I’m going to finish up my list of people you don’t want sitting on your plane. I’m sure that there are a couple of websites, writers, bloggers who have done this but none of those compare to this list–which I have just declared as definitive.
1. Terrorists

2. Crying babies. Easily the most common, awful thing that can be next to you on a flight.

3. Fat people eating into your seats. It’s inevitable.

4. Sick people who are coughing and 100% contagious. Yes, they really are contagious.

5. Smelly people. Seriously how can you afford to fly if you don’t own a shower or washer?

6. Old men. Because they probably funky and have a bladder the size of a penny, meaning they have to keep getting up all the time.

7. People who have a ton of crap on their table and who look like they’re about to spill their drink all over you.

8. People inexplicably watching 9/11 videos or plane crashes.
