Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5 Recap for “The Door”

For all the idiots in the room, this is a RECAP so obviously SPOILERS ARE AHEAD. Now, let’s get to it:

Bran: Bran forces he way into another vision, this time of the White Walker army again. However, the Night’s King sees him, and is able to grab his arm in thr vision. Bran returns to the real world, where fee Three Eyed Ravens tells him that they must leave because now the Night’s King made his mark on Bran, known where he is, and is on his way.

Bran is having another vision to learn as much as he can while Honor packs. The White Walkers show up faster than anticipated, and begin to attack. The Children of the Forrest defend them as long as they can, but they stand no chance. The Three Eyed Raven gets killed.

Last night the Billboard Music Awards aired, a month after Prince’s sudden death. To honor the epic musician, Madonna — who was close friends with the singer — took to the stage with Stevie Wonder for a lengthy tribute featuring some of his most famous songs. You’d think with songs like “Nothing Compares 2 U,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Purple Rain” some king of good would come out of this, right? Um, no.

Unfortunately Madonna fell flat on her face (sadly only figuratively).

But as usual, Twitter was the worst critic of all. To say tweeters weren’t enthused would be a massive understatement.

Not long afterward, BET tweeted out a new promo for its upcoming awards. The video quickly caught viral fire when viewers realized it was throwing subtle shade at what had just unfolded on the BBMA stage. “Yeah we saw that. Don’t worry. We Got You,” the screen read under a purple image of Prince as it teased their planned tribute to the late legend.

Yikes. Granted it’s hard to cover such an epic artist. Some songs should never be redone because they can’t get any better. But considering Madonna’s own legacy and help from Stevie Wonder, you’d think something salvageable would come out of this performance other than straight tears and hatred.

According to the Prince memes, so did he.

iPhone 7 leaked photos and specs have been “releasing” somewhat regularly in the past few weeks ahead of Apple’s suspected announcement this September. While nothing is 100% certain, it’s always entertaining to see what could be.

The newest image comes to us via Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website that’s very similar to Twitter. Again, this could be a bogus image, but it did show up on 9to5Mac–one of the best Apple websites. So that being said, let’s get to the leaked picture.

Obviously the most glaring change in this version of the iPhone 7 is the massive camera lens. We haven’t yet heard of any major changes that were being made to the camera, but it stands to reason that Apple would update the camera somehow for their newest phone.

The larger lens would hypothetically allow more light to enter into the camera, which would make for better low-light photography.

Some sites are saying this could actually be a photo of the iPhone 7S, not the original iPhone 7. We’ll have to wait around and see.

Reid Roberts, 46, and his dog Pacer, a border collie, were jogging through Forest for the World, a park in Prince George, BC. As they were jogging, they accidentally came across a black bear mother and her two cubs in the nearby bushes. Although this wasn’t the first time that Reid and Pacer had come across a black bear, this encounter was different.

Whereas the bear from two years before had been further away and only made a bluff charge, this momma bear “came out right away in attack mode,” Reid wrote on his Facebook page.

She locked in on me right away with head down staring at me.

This one was way too close. She had no option for a bluff. It was a bit surreal when I realized she wasn’t going to stop and I remember thinking ‘she is going to attack.’

I was yelling hard and waving my hands as I was backing up. I never wanted to turn or turtle and knew I had to fight… I’m not sure how I ended up on the ground off the trail but I remember her swatting at me like dogs do with their front paws when playing with another dog. I just started kicking at her while I was on my back.

But just like the black bear was protecting her two cubs, Pacer the faithful border collie wasn’t about to let her owner get mauled and killed. Pacer, outweighed by over 200 pounds, began attacking the black bear. The bites distracted the bear for a short while, but it wasn’t enough.

“[The bear] went at [Pacer] for only a second to chase him off but quickly turned and came at me a second time,” Roberts wrote, saying he tried to find protection in a clump of willows. Reid began thinking that “this was it” and that the bear’s second attack would finish him off for sure.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Pacer attacked again, this time convincing the bear to chase after her down a trail.

Meanwhile, Reid’s hand was all messed up from trying to fight the bear off. He had to wrap his hand in a shirt, dial 911, and walk back down the same path both the bear and the dog ran down.

When he finally made it to the parking lot, Roberts came across two people who asked if he was OK.

“They asked if I was ok. I said no, but I need to find my dog. The ambulance was on its way and I didn’t want to leave until Pacer was found,” he wrote.

Everything began to go blurry after emergency responders and Roberts’ friend arrived on the scene, he wrote. Roberts was treated at a local hospital and received 16 stitches in his hand. He also suffered “minor claw marks” on his stomach and arm, he wrote [source].

As for Pacer, after saving its owners life and taking off down the trail, the smart border collie posted up at one of Reid’s friends’ houses. Sadly, the mother bear was euthanized–probably because we can’t have bears who realize they’re capable of killing people just walking around.

At 67 years old, David Norman was the oldest member of Columbia University’s graduating class this year. But his age isn’t what has people talking–it’s because David was once a notorious Harlem drug dealer who had been arrested numerous times and jailed twice.

David graduated on Wednesday afternoon with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. It was an achievement that the man with a serious criminal record would have never believed thirty years ago. So how did he wind up with a blue cap and gown instead of an orange jump suit? Let’s find out…

Early Life

According to a talk with the Daily News, David had a serious substance abuse problem from an early age–one that lasted 35 for years. He claims that he started drinking at the age of eleven and then moved onto heroin before his fifteenth birthday, thanks in part to the fact that his mother and father were both heroin users.

One thing led to another, and he dropped out of high school on his first day to start slinging dope.

After multiple arrests, he finally did some time in 1967.

Associate’s Degree

David was released from jail at some unknown time, and pulled himself together to get an associate’s degree from Manhattan Community College. Unfortunately, during his time at MCC he began to relapse on heroin.

Manslaughter Charges

Things continued to spiral downwards for David, until they reached an all-time low when he got into a street fight in 1995. Here’s his description of the events that happened, via his interview with “Here & Now.”

I used to sell socks in the street. That was my way of taking care of my habits so I wouldn’t have to rob anyone. And he actually robbed me. But I said to him, “You owe me some money for what you took.” So I stepped off and walked away. And the next thing I know, he was behind me and coming towards me. And I when I turned around, he was coming with both arms stretch out. And I had a knife and I responded.

During that fight, he stabbed and killed a man. After being tried and convicted, David was sent to Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, NY.

David claims that he “wasn’t arrested, but rescued” because he started to take some self-inventory.

When I got to jail, I was rescued and I found a program that they had established there called transitional services, it used to be called pre-release when I went and they kept a few inmates in ABE jails, ABE stands for ‘Adult Basic Education,’ and those inmates were used to run programs and so I was a teachers aid for a while, helping other inmates, and then I ran transitional services and what we essentially did was worked to give people life skills, to teach people goal setting, to teach people how to interview for jobs [source].

Life After Jail

David was released from jail in 2000, determined to make the second half of his life better. He secured a job as an outreach worker at Mount Vernon Hospital, helping substance abusers access the services they needed. One thing led to another and he got a job at Columbia University where he helped track subjects in a community health program.

In 2006, he was accepted to Columbia’s School of General Studies. But every day was an uphill battle for him.

As you know Barnard is a women’s school, so I understand the need for extra security. But I was a student and I sat in the same place reading quite often. And unfortunately, that was by the administrative offices and so when they looked out and saw me, they called security.

And the way I knew this, is that I went to introduce myself to the security after being harassed for awhile. And they said ‘we know you, Mr. Norman.’ ‘So then why are you constantly asking for my ID?’ ‘We have to do that because people are complaining about you.’ “

He finally introduced himself to the administrative offices and cleared things up.

Your high school graduation should create memories that will last a lifetime. Usually those memories encompass a happy time before you sell your soul to adulthood. Unfortunately for several students at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, they weren’t as lucky.

Students were forced to have their graduation indoors after a rainstorm hit the area Friday afternoon. As students were filing in and the ceremony started, a brawl broke out between parents who weren’t yet inside the auditorium.

“This is ridiculous. This is a once in a lifetime moment, and we can’t see our kids graduate,” parent Wajeedah Price explained to WSB-TV. Naturally things only got worse once everyone found out there wasn’t enough room inside for all of them. Another parent described the chaos that ensued.

“It was pushing and shoving, and don’t push me, don’t push, next thing you know, swings, arms, fists,” parent Janelle Carter explained. Things got so out of hand that a police officer had to use a stun gun on one of the men involved in the eventual brawl.

Needless to say, these memories will stand the test of time. And not just because the fight video will always be available online.

The biggest movie surprise of the year just might be Angry Birds, the film that you probably weren’t ever expecting to hear about. I mean, it’s just a kids movie made after a mobile game, right? Well according to YouTube user LeoPirate, there might be a lot more to the film than you originally thought.

But we’re not talking innocent male genitalia posing as castle towers (a la Little Mermaid) or the sand spelling out the word “sex” (Lion King)–we’re talking about subliminal messaging that discusses the current anti-Muslim, anti-refugee sentiment traveling around the globe right now.

Honestly, we haven’t watched the movie yet, but Leopirate’s theory about xenophobic undertones and symbology symbolism seem at least partially on target. Hodor. It was once such a simple, hilarious term, is now tragic and heartbreaking thanks to George R.R. Martin and the other Game Of Thrones staff. After the fifth episode of season six, “The Door”, the beloved Hodor met his tragic, yet heroic end. Game Of Thrones has always been known for it’s willingness to kill of beloved characters, but this one takes it too far. Hodor was LITERALLY the kindest person in the realm, as he was LITERALLY the only one with no ulterior motive. All he wanted to do was protect and love his friends.

While having a vision of his father Ned, the White Walkers attack Bran’s location. Bran is unable to wake up, so he must warg into Hodor in the vision in order to take control of him. Bran wargs into Hodor, as Meera screams “Hold the door!”, so Hodor holds the door shut that is holding the White Walkers back. This causes Hodor to hear “hold the door” in the past, causing him to wait his whole life to “hold a door”, or, Hodor.

Hodor went down in the most Game Of Thrones way possible: his best friend is both the cause of his death and his mental condition where he is only able to say “Hodor”. Brutal.  The sheer pain of this moment sent the internet ablaze, with everyone chipping in their own Hodor memes.

Lily-Rose Melody Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and French singer Vanessa Paradis, was announced as the new face of Chanel No.5. Born on May 27, 1999, Lily-Rose is a French-American actress and model.

Lily-Rose said in a statement on her Instagram, “I’m so excited to announce that I am the face of the new Chanel Number 5 L’EAU!”

Lily-Rose debuted as a model for Chanel in July of 2015. At the time, Chanel said in a statement about Lily-Rose “A young, up-and-coming actress, Lily-Rose Depp is already the face for the Chanel Pearl eyewear collection launched in September 2015. She embodies her generation and its values of freedom and boldness to perfection, bringing to the iconic fragrance of the House her youthful freshness and beauty.”

Lily-Rose Depp’s modeling campaign for Chanel No.5 will begin in the fall and will be directed by Johan Renck.

Depp is also beginning an acting career. Depp began her acting career with a cameo role in Tusk written specifically for her by Kevin Smith, the father of her friend Harley Quinn Smith. If you’ve thought about cheating on your girlfriend, this tragic tale from Redditor Khaleesiscorned will instantly discourage you. In short: karma is a real b*tch, and she’ll always come back for more.

Some sad, nameless dude on Reddit posted a long story complaining about how his ex-girlfriend has ruined Game of Thrones for him ever since she found out he cheated on her. Clearly she got more creative than trashing his expensive car or outing his cheating ass on social media. In the end, she got him right where it hurts, and this sucker is going to pay for a long time.

My ex, we’ll call her Dany, and I were together for nearly a year. We broke up a couple months ago, due to distance and just not being right for eachother. The majority of our relationship was long distance, while I worked abroad, and communication was hard.

Dany blocked me on every form of communication when we broke up. But, on the Monday after season 6 premiered she unblocked me and I saw I had messages from her. I was excited because I thought maybe she forgave me and we could move on, but it was literally just every spoiler from the first episode.

Since then she spoils the show for me every week. I tried to ask her to stop but she blocks me immediately after she sends the message. I blocked her on whatsapp, but she did it via Facebook. Then the next week it was text. She even borrowed one of our mutual friends phones to do it, and I fell for that. (Our mutual friends are all closer to her and apparently hate me now because of what she’s told them about me). I can’t watch it before she ruins it became I have to wait til my girlfriend (my ex ex) is home from work to watch with her.

She even got some of his friends in on it? Dude clearly f*cked up. Either she’s incredibly smart or incredibly hot. Or both. Probably both — the girl is a damn genius. The story continues:

“My intel is Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is going to happen. It changed late last week, I got a call. Then somebody else sent me something yesterday and Saturday. We’ve booked rooms in Vegas. This September.”

I think this is the most profitable fight for CBS and Mayweather. CBS has been working with Mayweather for years, that’s why his fights are on Showtime (because CBS owns Showtime). So Les Moonves and the CBS peeps have decided let’s talk to the FOX/UFC peeps. And you got Fox, CBS; You got UFC, you got boxing; you got Floyd, you got McGregor. It’s going to make a lot of money for people. And for the record, McGregor would lose this fight, but so what?

The 2016 Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be held Saturday, May 28 2016, at 2:45 EST. The game will be played in A.C. Milan’s stadium, the San Siro in Milan, and is a rematch of the 2014 final, which Real won 4-1. This will be the 60th Champions League Final. Real Madrid will be playing for their world-leading 11th title, while Atletico Madrid is competing for it’s first Champion’s League title.

While Real Madrid is no stranger to the Champion’s League Final, this will only be Atletico Madrid’s fourth final. With powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester City all having amazing seasons, Atletico Madrid was not a popular pick to make it to the final. Atletico Madrid had to upset both Barcelona in the quarter-final, and Bayern Munich in the semi-finals to reach this point. Real Madrid had a much easier road to the final, defeating Wolfsburg and Manchester City.

Sunset Music Festival is a dance music festival featuring a total of over 30 of the world’s most popular DJ’s and musical artist. Although the event is still relatively new (this being it’s fifth year in existence) it is definitely gaining a lot of popularity among college students and EDM lovers.

This years SMF (Sunset Music Festival) is taking place in the Raymond James football stadium located in Tampa, Florida. SMF is a two-day event happening this weekend, May 28-29, and ticket prices are continuing to rise as the time approaches. Right now, single day passes are around $110 and two-day passes are going for about $189. You can purchases your tickets and party accessories here.

The 2016 lineup contains a ton of artist responsible for some of the best dance music the world has to offer. These artist include The Chainsmokers, Galantis, Jack U and many, many others. Mila Jade is an adult star who was recently in the news for hanging out with James Harden of the Houston Rockets. Even though the NBA star forbade her from taking photos of the evening, she still managed to brag about the evening to Snapchat.

From the looks of things, her night ended around 5:30 AM–which isn’t all that late considering her profession or Harden’s reputation.

Was she on a date with James? Probably not. In fact, if you watch her Snapchat story, she was probably just sitting at a table at a club that he was chilling at. Not that James doesn’t get down (he’s one of the biggest party animals in the NBA), it’s just that we doubt he’d take an up-and-coming adult actress out on the town. On top of that, it also looks like she’s in the club when she took this photo with the caption.

Alex Lagowitz, a bright young 23-year-old credit trading analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, died tragically after he fell out of the window of his bedroom window on the 26th floor. The Colgate University graduate reportedly ingested four grams of magic mushrooms. For those of you who don’t know about these kinds of things, users regularly take anywhere from 1.5-3 grams. 4 grams isn’t an unheard of amount, but it’s higher than normal.

Alex was found dead, lying on the third-floor of his building’s patio on Sunday morning. It’s unknown if he jumped or fell, although it doesn’t really matter anymore because he’s dead.

Alex was an accomplished golfer who played for Colgate University’s Men’s Golf team. He graduated from Colgate last year.

Alex’s roommate, 22-year-old Max Kaplan, was arrested after police found more magic mushrooms in their apartment on East 31st and Lexington Avenue. Max was charged with criminal possession of controlled substances.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and friends. He leaves behind two parents and a sister. Please be careful out there… The world can be a scary and dangerous place.

Whenever Blizzard takes on a new genre, it’s never satisfied with simply matching the best that competitors have to offer. The publisher/developer never settles for anything less than redefining a genre it tackles, making it thoroughly its own. With Overwatch, Blizzard takes on the ragingly popular MOBA genre, adding in first-person shooter elements. The result is nothing short of mesmerizing, if naggingly incomplete.

Just as in MOBAs such as League of Legends, the primary focus is on controlling lanes of access to enemy bases, coordinating with teammates to attack, defend, heal and make strategic sacrifices, all with the eventual goal of a full-on assault that will overpower the opponent at its core and seize the match. The twist here is that you’re locked into a first-person view familiar in most popular shooters, providing more of a visceral feel than the basic graphics and gameplay options that most MOBAs stick with. It’s a refreshing change of pace that gives Overwatch its signature feel, while retaining much of the visceral thrills of Blizzard’s Diablo titles.

The four modes available at launch are more than enough to get you going. Assault is the traditional MOBA slugfest, offering two control points to tackle and take down. Escort requires more finesse, tasking you and your squadmates to protect a moving payload from enemy onslaughts. Assault/escort is a multitasking-based combination of the first two classes, and Control is more of a King of the Hill-type throwdown that prioritizes the time you spend maintaining control of various areas. Assault is destined to be the most popular of the opening group, but the others provide a nice mix to keep things fresh and lively.

Although the game is well-stacked at the outset, packing in 21 characters to play on 12 maps in four game modes, but what stands out isn’t what’s included, but what is missing. Nowhere to be seen is the competitive mode that is sure to become the game’s calling card as it eventually makes inroads into the e-sports world. Blizzard is withholding the marquee feature for fine-tuning, promising it will come in a free update sometime in June. Until then, the Overwatch community will hone its skills in the current offerings, gaining a feel for the characters, maps and weapons.

Overwatch is tough to get a read on this early on in its release, because like Street Fighter V, it’s releasing with key features still missing. As of this writing, multiplayer servers have been live for less than a day, but the more time you spend with the modes and features that are there, the more clear it becomes that there is potential here for a dynamite release with the potential to match the wizardry of Blizzard’s best franchises, such as Diablo, World of Warcraft and Starcraft. That said, there’s no good reason to buy the game until competitive multiplayer is added and the early glitches — such as server outages — are ironed out. That said, it’s tough to stay out of the fray when you see everyone on your friends list having all the fun for themselves right now.
