If you’re a basketball player, you know the importance of ankle support. That’s why it’s important to do whatever you can to avoid injuries–and it all starts with buying the right basketball sneakers with the best ankle protection. I believe that whether you’re a guard or a big man, ankle support is the most important thing to consider in a shoe.

Unlike a few years ago, the height of the shoe no longer directly affects the protection of your ankles. Steph Curry, one of the quickest guards in the NBA, wears “high top” basketball shoes. It still comes down to player’s preference–but we’re only pointing out that just because a shoe is a “low top,” doesn’t mean as much as it used to.

Disclaimer: Shoes are the most important thing you can buy, but exercise, stretching, and warming up are the most important things you can do to stay in the game. Additionally, if you’re wearing ankle braces underneath your shoes you must strengthen your ankles on your own. The braces significantly weaken your ankles, leaving them unable to perform without the support of ankle braces.

Even with the braces on, I’ve sprained my ankle because I thought the brace would be enough. It wasn’t. I rehabbed them, waited longer than I would have liked, and now play without braces.

In this author’s opinion, the best support isn’t an ankle brace. It’s ankle tape. Although unless you’re a college or even high school player that option probably isn’t available.

So now that we’ve gotten our lecture out of the way, let’s take a look at the basketball shoes that provide the best ankle support today. This list will change after new shoes come out, but right now these kicks are as good as it gets.

Under Armour Curry 2 High Top

Price: $157-$230

Explanation: In our experience, the basketball shoe that gives the most ankle support is the Under Armour Curry 2 High Top edition. Yes, Under Armour sells equally cool low tops (which should provide great protection) but you’re losing negligible speed and cutting when you opt for the high tops. And the peace of mind you’ll get from buying the High Tops puts them over the top.

OK, but why the Curry 2’s? First of all, your foot is low to the ground in these shoes, meaning that you have less distance to roll your ankle. Second, the combination of external heel counter and mid-foot design mean that your feet are locked into the shoe–eliminating the chances you have of hurting yourself. Third, Steph Curry (a superstar with a history of ankle injuries) wears these shoes. If he trusts them, you can too.

As an added bonus, these babies are light as a feather.

I’d also like to add that if you can find an affordable pair of Curry 1’s, those are also great for ankle support.

Jordan Super.Fly 4

Price: $99-$150 (depending on colorway)

Explanation: Before I recently moved to the Curry 2, I was wearing the Super.Fly 4’s. They were great. I loved them. I just happen to love the Curry’s more. What I liked about them the most was that the feeling of security my ankles had when I was wearing them. The straps within the shoes lock my feet in place, and the webbed lacing system added to the feeling.

Additionally, there’s an external TPU hell counter to stabilize your foot. For what it’s worth, the external systems on these shoes are awesome.

Nike Zoom Lebron Soldier IX

Price: $145

Explanation: Full disclaimer, I don’t own a pair of these and I’ve never worn them, but a couple of my friends swear by them.

That being said, these sneakers are pretty much made to strap your foot into the shoe–removing any chance that loose laces will cause a turned ankle. The straps actually offer a 360° support system.

Tack on the flywire technology and a wide outsole to prevent accidental rolls, and you’re looking pretty secure.

Nike Hyperdunk 2015

The Nike Hyperdunk line of basketball shoes have been a staple shoe in leagues everywhere–from high school to the NBA. Obviously this year’s shoes look a little different than some of the previous models, but just because they look slick doesn’t mean that they don’t hold it down.

First of all, the internal bootie within the sneaker is the first line of defense. Then the dynamic flywire within the shoe (you can see it on the outside) has got you locked in. You’ll also notice the big heel, which makes sure that your heel stays where it’s supposed to…

Nike Lebron 13 Elite

My favorite shoe of all time were the Nike Lebron X’s. The reason was because the ankle support was superb, I felt like a tank in them, and they looked good on me. Unfortunately, those kicks are impossible to find now and I’m not so much of a fan of the new aesthetic the Lebron lineup has been going in. That being said, the Lebron line still performs amazingly. And the Lebron 13 Elite’s are representative of that.

Yes, I know it looks like there’s a glaring hole (literally) right next to where your ankle is, but the fact of the matter is that it doesn’t really affect the stability of the shoe (they’re there to give you more flexibility in the material).

The XIII Elites have an upgraded midfoot and carbon fiber shank plate that help keep you in the game.

When you’re live tweeting updates from some random girl’s closet, it can only mean a few things: 1. You were trying to get that but then realized she was a complete psycho and tried to run from her, 2. You were trying to get that but then her boyfriend came home without you knowing, or 3. You were trying to get that and she locked you in the closet instead because this is more like a Buffalo Bill situation and you just weren’t aware of the fact.

For Miles, the second option was his fate last week, when he was hanging out with some girl and her boyfriend came home unexpectedly. In an instant of sheer genius, Miles headed to her closet until the coast was clear.

Here’s the full story:

Wow, ok, that was a seriously close call. Especially because the dude insisted on staying an extra hour to get himself a free meal. I see where he’s going with that, but it’s not the brightest idea when you’re hiding from someone’s crazy boyfriend.

While Miles insists there was no cheating involved in this Twitter saga, it’s kind of hard to believe, right? I mean, why else would he be hanging out in this girl’s closet? Because he likes the smell?

Guess we’ll just have to take his word on it. Either way, it’s an epic story.

Last week, Eugena Washington was announced as the winner of Playboy’s Playmate of the Year 2016. It was an exciting moment for her, we’re sure, but also for us because we got to send our boy Conner Sullivan to the Playboy Mansion to interview her. We told him that the invite was our graduation present to him. We did not, however, tell him to bring a red robe. That was his decision. And it was a great one.

While Conner was waiting to talk to Eugena, he spent his time walking around the grounds of the infamous Playboy Mansion and captured some awesome footage of the place. Judging from the video, he had an awesome time and we’re very jealous.

We’re also very jealous that he got to speak to the beautiful Eugena, who seemed like the perfect choice for Playmate of the Year.

Preacher the latest comic book adaptation to make it’s way to television. It will be airing on AMC on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 10 PM. Preacher is American television series developed by  Seth Rogen and  his buddy Evan Goldberg, as well as former Breaking Bad writer Sam Catlin. The series stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, the titular Preacher. Preacher is an adaptation of the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo subdivision. The series was officially picked up on September 9, 2015 with a ten-episode order.

The reviews so far have been overwhelmingly positive so far, boasting a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. The website’s consensus reads: “A thrilling celebration of the bizarre, Preacher boasts enough gore, glee, and guile to make this visually stunning adaption a must-see for fans of the comic and newcomers alike.” Sounds good to me.

The White House has been placed on lockdown after a shooting on the West Executive Drive, just outside the West Wing. The West Executive Drive is the road that separates the West Wing and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. According to multiple news sources, someone has been shot but their status is not yet known.

It is not clear who has been shot or whether they were killed.  The Secret Service are on the scene, along with the police. Press within the White House were told to ‘shelter in place.’ Further details are unclear.

Update–3:43: CNN just announced that “the suspect who opened fire on the complex is in custody.”

President Obama is currently not in the White House because he’s playing a round of golf (nice).

Who Was Involved?

At the moment, no names are known. But we can report that the suspect believed to have shot someone is now in custody. CNN is reporting that the man approached a White House checkpoint with his gun drawn, and that the Secret Service shot him.

We also know that one person who was shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Every single day, we learn more and more reasons why we should have gone to college in California. Today’s reason is the ALL CAL Cup, aka the annual road trip that every single University of Calfornia (UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara, etc.) ski and snowboard club take during Winter Break. This past December, they all drove to Crested Butte, CO–one of the meccas of skiing–and balled the f*ck out. Even the bus trip (a full 16 hours+) looked like a great time.

The tradition has been going on since 1954, so we have to respect the fact that these kids have continued the journey without fail. And people say millennials don’t care…

Extreme Rules is an upcoming WWE pay-per-view event, that will be taking place on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It will be the eighth Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.

WWE Extreme Rules features all types of matches, including an Extreme Rule Match between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. On the April 4 Raw, AJ Styles won a four-way match for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which was being held by Roman Reigns.

The name “Extreme Rules” come from the fact that most of the matches are under hardcore wrestling regulations. The Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW)  originally used the term to describe the regulations for all of its matches, and the WWE adopted the event name in 2009, when they named One Night Stand to WWE Extreme Rules. Since 2009 up to now there has been at least one Steel Cage match, except 2012.

This weekend is MLS Heineken Rivalry Week, which means that here in NYC we’re all set for the New York Derby. For those of you who don’t know what a derby is, it’s a soccer match between two teams based in the same cities. So this Saturday, for example, the New York Red Bulls will play the New York City Football Club (NYCFC).

The New York Derby is a game that a lot of soccer fans are excited to watch, and Heineken helped to get the rivalry started early with a fun life-sized foosball field in Herald Square. Players like Mix Diskerud (NYCFC) and Felipe (Red Bulls) were also in attendance to get the fans hyped.

That’s me hanging with a member of the USMNT. No biggie. But it wasn’t enough to merely chill with the players and the fans, we hopped into the 4v4 Life-Sized Foosball Table/Arena to take on some of the MLS’s fiercest.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! had a rare original airing on Friday, and they had something special for the occasion. Bryan Cranston was pushing his Lyndon Johnson biopic on HBO that airs this weekend. Strangely enough, though, America’s 36th President isn’t really big with the kids. What’s big with the kids is spoofs of tweenhood favorites and more talk of Breaking Bad.

That’s how we got Bryan Cranston celebrating his birthday on My Super Sweet 60 — which combines a look back at MTV’s painful spoiled-brat reality show with Bryan getting older, but still hanging out with Aaron Paul and Bob Odenkirk.

It’s a spoof that must have taken an impressive amount of hours for Bryant to play along with the gag. Let’s hope celebrities get paid more than union scale nowadays for all the work they have to do for a talk-show guest spot. This sketch was worth it, though. Also, it’s nice to see that Bryan, Aaron, and Bob seem to really like hanging out with each other. That’s more hope for a Walter White cameo on Better Call Saul…

The Last Face is easily the most hated movie of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. That didn’t keep the flick from bringing in the fest’s sexiest red carpet! Disgraced director Sean Penn couldn’t keep his eyes off the hot outfit sported by star Adele Exarchopoulos — but there was a lot more to see!

That includes lead actress Charlize Theron in a daring top that had photographers scrambling for good angles. We have one pic of Javier Barden and Jared Harris in an impressive show of eye contact in a setting where our eyeballs would be hoppin’ and poppin’. As you’ll see in this gallery, even Adele had to take a lingering look!

Plus some more beauties showed up — and enjoyed the luxury of not actually being in the film. Milla Jovovich easily upstaged the movie, plus Victoria’s Secret models Izabel Goulart and Alessandra Ambrosio also made for better viewing then the film. Alessandra went especially wild for the screening in an outfit that had us zooming in carefully to make sure she wasn’t nude — because we wouldn’t want to post a nude photo of a Victoria’s Secret model, of course. That would be wrong.

And there are even more striking beauties who showed off their beautiful bods before the poor audience had to sit through The Last Face. We know that critics often pan great films — Billy Madison, for example — but The Last Face is about Charlize as the director of of an international aid agency in Africa, and we’re pretty sure Sean Penn wasn’t subtle with any deep messages. We’re sticking with the red carpet…

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is sinking at the box office this weekend, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer movie that’s out to lecture us about the patriarchy. The good news is that we’re pretty happy about one upcoming big summer movie that should be lousy. The bad news is that we’re getting the second pitch-and-a-miss on two other summer movies that we’d like to condemn as members of the patriarchy — which frankly, is a lot less powerful than people think.

Or you can just forget the bigger picture and consider these four new cinematic sneak peeks to be offering something for everybody. The last one is still really painful, though….

Star Trek Beyond

We’ve been underwhelmed by J.J. Abrams’ renewed Star Trek franchise — but we’re proud to be officially excited over director Justin Lin moving over from The Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s a move that makes perfect sense, and Star Trek Beyond seems to be promising us a real proper throwback to the days of — well, not the television series, but to how Wrath of Khan brought the best of the series to the big screen….

Ghostbusters

Here’s another attempt to convince us that Ghostbusters isn’t going to be a really disappointing remake/revamp/reboot — and we’ll give some credit to an opening scene that shows Leslie Jones doesn’t have to scream her every line. Also, we’re seeing Michael McDonald right at the start, and he’s always a welcome presence in a movie. Furthermore, proton packs. But the main feeling that we’re getting from this trailer (and Chris Hemsworth’s increased role) is that it feels more like a disappointing big-screen version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer….

The Purge: Election Year

With a none-too-subtle opening on the 4th of July, the latest Purge film has some hardcore political content that seems to skip Purge Night fun for more of a  D.C. thriller. That’s not good. The Purge: Anarchy was also really political, but showed a lot more of what we really wanted to see about how a Purge night goes out in the streets. This looks more like a second try at making an Olympus Has Fallen sequel. At least we know that we’ll get a lot more Frank Grillo than ended up in Captain America: Civil War…

Nine Lives

And here’s the most hateful trailer that we’ve seen this week — mostly because it’s really sad to see what Kevin Spacey is doing for money even with the success of House of Cards, plus Christopher Walken really slumming it in a return to his role in Click. There are even rumors that this can’t possibly be a real Disney movie where Kevin Spacey is turned into a cat because he’s too busy running an empire to be a good father. This trailer sure feels like some kind of viral joke. We used to think Click was kind of underrated, but it’ll probably look like a masterpiece compared to this…..

With the Pittsburgh Penguins currently battling the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals, we figured it would be a great time to admire some pictures of Evgeni Malkin’s gorgeous fiancée, Anna Kasterova.

The 29-year-old Malkin and the 31-year-old Kasterova both hail from Russia, so I’m sure their shared love for frigid weather, vodka, and Ivan Drago helped forge their special bond. Kasterova is a television personality, and it’s not hard to see why she’s had success in that field. She could read a phone book aloud and I’d be absolutely captivated.

Fred Armisen returned to host Saturday Night Live last night, and it was an exceptionally flat season finale. It probably didn’t help that the show couldn’t make a big deal out of anyone leaving the show this season. Some cast members might not be returning, but none that anyone is going to miss.

The sketches were all pretty lame, too, and Courtney Barnett wasn’t anything special as a musical guest. Andy Samberg showed up with a Digital Short that plugged his upcoming comedy Popstar, while Jason Sudeikis and Maya Rudolph appeared as alumni doing dull work.

And so, as with last season’s finale, Kate McKinnon’s take on Hillary Clinton ended up being the sole real highlight — in a big cold open that also brought in Larry David as Bernie Sanders, and you can bet nobody on the SNL staff started this season thinking they’d still be writing about Bernie Sanders at the end.

So here’s Hillary & Bernie dancing their way through the election in a pretty impressive production number that crams in the whole cast — plus gives you an idea of how SNL is planning to treat Official Candidate Hillary as a cold-hearted conniving gal who still really just wants to do what’s best for us. You’ll also notice that Kate has given up on trying to look like Hillary. That would be unflattering…

Game Of Thrones ending last week was as epic as they’ve ever had. Not only did Daenerys kill those annoying Khals and recruit herself another army,  but she did so by burning off all of her clothes. It was awesome. Combine that with the insane threat Ramsay Bolton sent Jon Snow, while he was finally reuniting with one of his sibilings, and you have one of the best episodes of the season. This weekend’s episode, “The Door”, seems like it is going to keep up the awesome pace this season has been on.

My thoughts:

-The question is, is Tyrion seeking an ally we have already met, or will it be an entirely new character? The Meereen story has been frankly crap, and needs to start picking up, because wasting Tyrion away like this is a shame.

-Bran learns a great deal is quite obvious  he is going to be learning about the White Walker army, but will Bran’s vision going to take place in the past, present, or future?

-Brienne, who is currently posted up at Castle Black, is going on a mission that I think involves Jon Snow in some way, shape, or form. Brienne is still sworn to Sansa, and Sansa is obviously going to defer to Jon when it comes to “mission” type decisions. Plus, there is no way we visit Castle Black without seeing Jon. God, I would love to see them two and Tormund as a squad. They could take anyone in 3 vs. 3.

-Littlefinger  just creeps me out so bad, so if you like him kindly stop reading my articles and go re-evaluate your life.

-Arya getting to prove herself should mean that she is going to get her first chance to kill as No One.

-No Daenerys in the trailer,  but after her, uh, hot scene last week, I can’t imagine them skipping her this week.

The Cannes Film Festival is wrapping up — and so are the amazing red carpets that have given us amazing displays by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Izabel Goulart. But now one of this year’s biggest red-carpet mysteries has been addressed. Specifically, the mystery of how Bella Hadid stayed in her skimpy red dress while attending the premiere of The Unknown Girl.

The Billboard Music Awards is an awards ceremony held by Billboard, a publication and music popularity chart covering the music business. They have been held annually since 1989 in December, until it went dormant in 2007. However, the awards would later returned in 2011.

Last night’s Saturday Night Live season finale was kind of a clunker, and it seems Andy Samberg even has the clout to keep the Digital Short to himself. That’s why the full uncensored (and very NSFW) “Finest Girl” video snuck into the The Lonely Island’s YouTube channel today.

We’re not sure if the saga of failing solo act Conner4Real is really enough of a move past the same character that Samberg often did on SNL. We do know that this video is a lot of fun, and also has Vanessa Bayer doing more great work as a quirky sex symbol.

Game Of Thrones sixth season has been so great, many are saying it is the strongest beginning to a season yet. Personally, the fourth season is my favorite, by the sixth is closing in quickly. This weekend’s episode, “The Door”, has the potential to blow the doors off of the season. I have this feeling that the writers have something big planned for the half-way point this season. With the impending Ramsay-Stark battle coming, Got has a lot of ground to cover, and fast.

First, let’s check out the synopsis:

Tyrion seeks a strange ally, Bran learns a great deal, Brienne goes on a mission, Arya gets a chance to prove herself.

My thoughts:

-The question is, is Tyrion seeking an ally we have already met, or will it be an entirely new character? The Meereen story has been frankly crap, and needs to start picking up, because wasting Tyrion away like this is a shame.

-Bran learns a great deal is quite obviously from the trailer: he is going to be learning the extent of the impending White Walker army. The only question is, is Bran’s vision going to take place in the past, present, or future?

-Brienne of Tarth, who is currently at Castle Black, is going on a mission that I am willing to bet either involves, or is commanded by, Jon Snow. Brienne is still sworn to Sansa, and Sansa is obviously going to defer to Jon when it comes to “mission” type decisions. Plus, there is no way we visit Castle Black without seeing Jon.

-If you like Littlefinger, stop reading my articles and go re-evaluate your life.

-Arya getting to prove herself should mean that she is going to get her first assassination assignment as No One. I say should because,  as we know with Game Of Thrones, it is always wise to expect the unexpected.

-No sign of Daenerys,  but after her HUGE scene last week, I can’t imagine them skipping out on her this week.
