Fire Emblem Fates review

After a sleepy 2015, Nintendo is starting off the year right for 3DS owners, unleashing two of the best strategy games the system has ever seen.

Game: Fire Emblem Fates (Conquest and Birthright)
Consoles: 3DS (reviewed)
Publisher: Nintendo
Developers: Intelligent Systems, Nintendo
Release Date: Feb. 19

Two Fire Emblem games — Conquest and Birthright, came out Friday on the system. Just like that, there are dozens of hours of addictive turn-based strategy to find a way to squeeze into your schedule.

Birthright is the more traditional game, with the standard quest to help an exile take on an evil kingdom and overthrow its corrupt monarch. You put together a party and make your way through the saga by juggling your party members, inventory items and special attacks.

Conquest is the more difficult of the two games, which puts you on the other side of the confluct. In that game, you’re inside of the kingdom and tasks you to try to change it by wielding your power and influence inside. Experience points and resources are harder to come by, forcing you to make tougher, more thoughtful decisions with your resources.

Unlike the slightly varied Pokemon games, both Conquest and Birthright are completely separate games, with their own offshoot storylines. If you make it deep into either story, you can buy the other version of the game for $20, allowing you to skip the first five chapters and reach the same point in the other game. A downloadable third campaign story, which will also cost $20, will drop March 10.

Whichever version you go with, there’s no choosing wrong. Both games offer intense challenge and intriguing sets of missions. Whether or not you’re familiar with past Fire Emblem games, you’re in for a tense ride that will probably get you to cough up the money for the other two storylines.

Fire Emblem Fates Reviews Around The Web:

“The intense difficulty is squarely aimed at veteran Fire Emblem players, and its satisfying campaign is full of variety and challenge.” –Engadget

“Conquest on the other hand is a more enjoyable from my perspective as a strategy veteran.” –Destructoid

“Birthright is a grueling, fantastic experience that not only matches the quality of its predecessor but possibly outshines it as well, more than earning its place at the table of must-play strategy/RPGs.” –Game Informer

Kanye West Learns Nothing, Gets Back on Twitter & Blasts The Grammys

Kanye West Twitter Rant

Kanye West is really great at having a temper tantrum, especially on Twitter. The popular rapper (or also seems to be notoriously hated by pretty much everyone) opened fire on Twitter again this week, this time going off about the Grammys.

Not only did he basically call the award ceremony completely racist (which doesn’t seem to be too far off considering the controversy involving the Oscars), but also irrelevant. Namely because he didn’t win all of the awards and probably won’t show up next year… so… irrelevant.

Here it goes, brace yourself:

It continues onward, but I’m getting tired… aren’t you? But like, let’s keep those positive vibes flowing.

In an earlier segment, Kanye blasted music critic Bob Letsetz, who called Kanye’s talent “sophomoric at best” in a recent write-up.

But in spite of what the aspirationally-cool media keeps saying about him, unlike other creators in his genre like Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie or even M.C. Hammer for that matter, it’s unlikely that we’ll be quoting too many of Kanye’s songs 20 years from now.

He didn’t open up new avenues of public discourse like N.W.A., or introduce the world to a new art form like Grandmaster Flash, or even meaningfully and memorably address social issues through his music like Marshall, Macklemore and Kendrick.

Yikes. Here’s what Kanye had to say about it:

Yeah… whatever you say.

Dorm Room Food Hack: How To Make Coffee Without Machine

Dorm Room Hacks Coffee

Other than your textbooks, coffee is the single most important thing you need to get you through school. The problem is that a lot of you don’t have coffee machines in your dorm rooms, so that when you need that caffeine boost the most you can’t actually get it without leaving your room.

The good news is that all you really need is hot water (microwave?), a paper cup, a mug, a rubber band, a paper towel, and some coffee grounds.

If Samantha Hoopes’ Modeling Career Didn’t Work Out, She Was Going to be a Gym Teacher

Instagram

You probably know Samantha Hoopes best from her long line of Instagram bikini photos and Sports Illustrated swim shoots, but the blonde beauty had another dream before her modeling career hit it big: to become a gym teacher.

The 25-year-old model, who’s originally from Doylestown, Pennsylvania and graduated from Penn State University, was recently posed a very important interview question. During a 2014 interview with Sports Illustrated, Hoopes told the editors that she wanted to be a gym teacher if her modeling career didn’t blow up to major proportions. Here’s what she said:

“I wanted to be a gym teacher and coach a team on the side.. I’m from the East Coast so I love field hockey. I played in middle school but not in high school. Since I was modeling, they told me not to mess with field hockey because I would always get bruises.”

Just to confirm the statement, another editor asked her this past weekend, to which she said yes, she did want to be a gym teacher at one point in her life.

Can you imagine if this actually happened? And you stepped into gym class ready to play dodgeball, and there was Samantha Hoopes? Standing there in a dodgeball uniform, ready to kick some freshman ass?

It’s every high schooler’s life dream. Sadly, it will also stay one.

The college basketball season is coming down the home stretch and with that are thoughts about who the best players around the sport are. There are some surprising names that make this list as their names aren’t always all over SportsCenter on a daily basis. Here is a look at the top ten players in college basketball today.

1. Buddy Hield, Oklahoma

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

The Sooners guard has turned into a scoring machine this season averaging 25.4 points per game through February 23. He is also hitting 48% of his 3-point shots and also is averaging 5.5 rebounds a game. If Oklahoma is going to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament, it will be because of Hield.

2. Anthony Barber, N.C. State

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

Barber averaged just 12.1 points a game last season but the junior has shot that average up to 23.1 points a game for the Wolfpack. Barber is going to the free throw line much more this season as well. Barber is averaging 4.5 rebounds a game even at 6-2 along with 4.5 assists per contest.

3. Grayson Allen, Duke

Allen didn’t get a ton of minutes last season for the Blue Devils but has broken out during the 2015-16 year, averaging 21 points a game and 4.7 rebounds per contest. At 6-5, the sophomore has become one of the most improved players on the court all around college basketball.

4. Kyle Wiltjer, Gonzaga

(Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

(Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

This has become a season where the top seniors are going to lead their teams deep into March Madness. Wiltjer is one of those players as he averages 21 points and 6.4 rebounds a game for the Bulldogs. Witljer is also a deadly three-point shooter and is making 41.5% of his long-range shots.

5. Stefan Moody, Ole Miss

Moody has been a solid player for the last two seasons but has turned it up a notch this year with his 23 point a game average. Moody has also increased his assist average from 2.4 a game to 4.3 this season. If the Rebels make the tournament, watch out for Moody taking it to a whole new level.

6. Georges Niang, Iowa State

There hasn’t been many more consistent players over a four-year period than Niang and he is having another great season this year. Niang is averaging 19.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists a game for the Cyclones. Iowa State is one of the best teams in the country and Niang is a big reason for it.

7. Denzel Valentine, Michigan State

(Photo by Rey Del Rio/Getty Images)

(Photo by Rey Del Rio/Getty Images)

The Spartans would be lost without Valentine over the last two seasons and this senior year of his has turned into one of lore in East Lansing. Valentine is averaging 19.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists a game. Michigan State will be looking for a big March out of Valentine to make a deep tourney run.

8. Kevin Punter, Tennessee

While the Volunteers are very unlikely to make the NCAA Tournament, Punter has been such a bright spot that it is hard to ignore him as one of the best players in the country. Punter is averaging 22.2 points a game, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He is a senior and go out in the SEC tournament probably but shouldn’t be overlooked.

9. Ben Simmons, LSU

When Simmons arrived in Baton Rouge; he was looked at as the top freshmen in the country. Simmons hasn’t disappointed while averaging 19.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and five assists per game for the Tigers. Simmons may lead LSU into the NCAA Tournament but will need some help to get them deep.

10. Jarrod Uthoff, Iowa

Many people didn’t expect the Hawkeyes to be so high in the rankings but they are there because of Uthoff. The senior is averaging 18.8 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. Iowa will be a team to reckon with in March. Uthoff has shown all season that he is that steady leader that the Hawkeyes need.

Mizzou List of Demands

Missouri

Student protesters at the University of Missouri are still making their voices heard with an updated list of demands for their future school president. Here’s the full statement:

Mizzou Demands

Imgur

According to The Columbia Tribune, interim Mizzou President Mike Middleton has already responded.

Middleton issued a response to the group’s statement, listing efforts to meet Concerned Student 1950’s original list of demands. Middleton said the university system has formed a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force with representatives from each campus, created a chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer position and conducted a full review of all UM policies for staff and student conduct.

“The time for demands has passed,” Middleton said. “We have already begun the very important work of making our campuses more diverse, equitable and inclusive.”

Middleton said the UM System has encouraged students to be part of the solution by working together with the new campus and system efforts.

#ConcernedStudent1950 started trending on Twitter back in November after several students demanded the resignation of the university’s president, Tim Wolfe. Students claimed Wolfe mishandled several racist incidents on campus, including a swastika written in human feces was found inside of a student dormitory. Eventually Wolfe stepped down, but protests continued onward.

Initial demands were as follows:

Mizzou List of Demands
According to students, six out of the eight demands have been ignored, and they demand that changes be made by August.

The updated list was unveiled yesterday, the same day the University of Missouri Board of Curators selected a Presidential Search Committee and consulting firm to help recruit candidates to run the school.

As for reactions, Twitter is overwhelmed with mixed opinions:

Texas Teacher Sues Student She Had Sex With & WTF Texas How Does This Make Sense?!

Texas Teacher Sues Student

YouTube

Only in Texas.

Tanya Ramirez is a 31-year-old former teacher and coach at a high school in Corpus Christi, TX. Unfortunately, thanks to a string of bad decisions and the simple fact that teenagers who are getting laid just can’t seem to keep their mouths shut, was fired after sleeping with her 17-year-old student. However, in a very weird turn of events, Ramirez is now suing Tristan (her former teen lover) and his mother.

WTF Texas?!

The reasoning is… interesting. According to The Huffington Post,

Tanya Ramirez, a former teacher and coach at a high school in Corpus Christi, TX, admits that she slept with a 17-year-old student, and pleaded guilty to an improper relationship between teacher and student. But now, Ramirez, 31, is suing the student, Tristan, for invasion of privacy after he, she says, secretly recorded their romp, texted it to 11 of his friends, and then, she says, it was posted online. She is also suing his mom for defamation, after she publicly called Ramirez “a sexual predator” and accused her of sleeping with other students as well.

Yes, this is a real thing. It’s so much of a real thing that she actually brought her problem to Dr. Phil, because even legally-classified sexual predators like their 15 minutes of fame.

Check it out:

Umm… I’m sorry, what? Compensation? Are you serious?! You shouldn’t have had relations with your student to begin with.

I can’t.

FSU’s TKE Suspended After Recent Grad Rats on Them For 2013 Hazing

Florida State University TKE Suspension

Florida State University

Florida State University’s TKE has officially been suspended after a recent grad ratted on the frat for 2013 hazing activities.

In late January, Florida State officials received a hazing report about the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter via their online reporting portal. A week later, the chapter was placed on interim suspension and an investigation commenced. Since passing the investigation along to the campus police department, details of the allegations started making their way to the press.

According to a CBS affiliate, things got pretty weird back in 2013.

He reported such incidents as pledges having to participate in a drinking game called “Old South” in which they were made to act as slaves while serving drinks to members; being required to steal traffic cones and then clean them for hours; and being blindfolded and driven to Thomasville and Ocala where they were told to return to Tallahassee on their own without phones or wallets.

However, despite the authority’s interest in the case, the amount of time that lapsed since the initial incident put a severe dent in the case.

Florida State University has worked diligently throughout its history to be an academic environment that values diversity and respects every student,” Thrasher said. “The actions taken by Student Affairs were strong and swift. Racist behavior demeans every one of us, and we will not permit it to represent this university.”

After taking the evidence from their investigation to the State Attorney’s Office, FSU Police learned that too much time had elapsed under state law to bring any criminal charges for misdemeanor hazing. However, per Florida State’s usual procedure, the police report was sent to the Dean of Students Office to determine possible violations of the Student Conduct Code, and that process is under way.

So what’s next? Presumably a hard watch on Greek life, and particularly TKE. But honestly – should they really be getting in trouble for something that long ago? And why did the kid feel the need to speak up now? Sounds kind of fishy, if you ask us.

oscars 2016 date, oscars time

The 88th Academy Awards will be on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 8:30 PM EST. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will honor the best films of 2015 by presenting awards in 24 categories. “.

There is a more attention on the Oscars than usual this year for a couple of reasons. Most obviously is the controversy surrounding the lack of nominations of black actors. The controversy has garned so much attention that the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite has been trending ever since the nominations were announced. The controversy even has it’s own section on the Wikipedia page for this year’s awards. Some actors, such as Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett, are so angry they are outright advocating for people to boycott the Oscars, but on the other hand, black actors such has Ice Cube and Whoopi Goldberg find the criticism ridiculous, and the lack of nominations is based solely on merit, not race. Ice Cube, who produced the hit biopic film Straight Outta Compton, stated that “It’s crying about not having enough icing on your cake. It’s just ridiculous.” Oscar winner and former host, Whoopi Goldberg, defended the Academy as well by saying, “The issue is not the Academy. Even if you fill the Academy with black and Latino and Asian members, if there’s no one on the screen to vote for, you’re not going to get the outcome that you want. I won once, so it can’t be that racist. I’ve been black the whole time.”

Then of course, is Leonardo Dicaprio’s pursuit of his first Best Actor award. The picture Dicaprio is nominated for, The Revenant, received the most nominations with twelve total, with Mad Max: Fury Road coming in second with ten. For the second consecutive year, a film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu received the most nominations.

This College Professor Says There’s a 97% Chance Trump Will Win The Election & We Want Whatever He’s On

Donald Trump President 2016

Helmut Norpoth, a political science professor from Stony Brook University, just announced that there’s a 97% chance Donald Trump will take home a win come the 2016 election. More specifically, Norpoth predicts that Trump has a 97% chance of beating Hillary Clinton and a 99% chance of beating Bernie Sanders.

On that note, we want whatever he’s on, please and thank you.

The crazed professor announced his hypothesis on Monday night during the Stony Brook Alumni Association event at the SUNY Global Center in Manhattan.

“The bottom line is that the primary model, using also the cyclical movement, makes it almost certain that Donald Trump will be the next president,” Norpoth said. “When I started out with this kind of display a few months ago, I thought it was sort of a joke. Well, I’ll tell you right now, it ain’t a joke anymore.”

A joke it is not. More like a really, really terrifying nightmare you can’t seem to wake up from.

Per The Daily Caller,

“Trump beats Hillary 54.7 percent to 45.3 percent” in terms of popular vote, Norpoth prophesied. “This is almost too much to believe,” he told audience members described by the student as nervously laughing. But he is convinced his model won’t be wrong.

“Take it to the bank,” Norpoth confidently suggested.

Unfortunately, the man has some legitimacy and may be guessing in the right direction. Norpoth, a 1974 University of Michigan Ph.D. recipient who specializes in electoral behavior alignment also announced that there’s a 61% chance Trump will be the nominee (which, obviously, if he’s supposedly going to win the whole thing by at least 97%).

Norpoth’s general election formula measures candidates’ performances in primaries in caucuses to gauge party unity and voter excitement. It also focuses on certain patterns in electoral cycles. One major assumption is that the party which has just held the presidency for two consecutive terms is less likely to win a third term.

The model has been correct for every election since 1912 except for the 1960 election — which pitted winner John F. Kennedy against loser Richard Nixon.

In total, Norpoth observed, his forecasting formula he has created has been correct 96.1 percent of the time since 1912

At least Cape Breton will always be an option. But really – 97%?! That number is waaaayyy too high.

Norpoth send us over some of the good stuff, cool?

WATCH: Tom Hardy Has A TV Show Coming Out On FX, And The Trailer Is Absolutely Bananas

tom hardy taboo

“I am a very dangerous man to know”.

Woah. Did not see this one coming. Sure, TV has been kicking ass for over a decade now, but if you told me a TV show starring Tom Hardy was going to pop up on FX next year, I’d tell you to quit blabbing and pass the bong, cause that’s just ridiculous. And I’d be wrong, because that is exactly what is happening.

Taboo, an eight-episode show, based on an original idea by Hardy and his father Chips Hardy, who also serves as consulting producer, will premiere sometime in 2017. Ridley Scott also serves as a producer.

Set in 1814, “Taboo” follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

Sounds pretty batsh*t, right? Check out the trailer below and see for yourself.

The golden age of television just keeps going, and going, and going…

You know that whole immaculate conception thing? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s bullsh*t. You’re not getting pregnant if there’s no P in V action, regardless of what your parents said about sitting on public toilet seats.

This woman, on the other hand, claims different.

Cheryl Riley experienced years of infertility until the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup title in 1996. Then-player Mike Ricci decided to throw a celebratory party that Riley attended. While she was there, she decided to join in on the fun and slap a big wet kiss on the prized cup. A few weeks later she found out she was pregnant and Riley credits the kiss to helping knock her up.

No. F*cking. Joke.

“It was Aug. 1,” said Cheryl, in her early 40s in the summer of 1996. “Mike [Ricci] brought the Cup up here and on Labor Day weekend we were playing some volleyball on the beach, and I realized that my fingers and ankles were getting sore. Then I discovered that I didn’t like the taste of some of the foods I had been eating, and I realized these were things women complain about it when they are pregnant.”

“We knew it was that night, we knew it was the day I kissed the Stanley Cup,” Cheryl said.

Once she popped the kid out, she professed her gratitude by naming her son Stanley. Really. Really.

Stanley – make sure to keep this story under wraps, for your sake.

Get HYPED For The Oscars By Watching This Supercut Of Every Movie Leo Has Ever Been In

This is his year. It’s gotta be. I mean to be fair, he should have won a couple of years ago for The Wolf of Wall Street, but that was right smack in the middle of the locomotive that was known as the “Mcconaissance”. Just bad timing honestly. But not this year. This is Leo’s year.

I don’t know if you’ve seen, or heard, how hard in the paint Leo goes in The Revenant, but it’s mesmerizing.  The guy says no more than maybe 100 words the whole movie, yet it’s still some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. The dude put himself through hell and back for the nearly wordless part — from eating raw bison liver to sleeping in animal carcasses on the film’s freezing, remote set up in Calgary. That’s commitment worth rewarding.

Anyway, some internet guru had the brilliant idea of making a supercut of all of Leo’s movies. First off, the dude has been acting for about a quarter of a century now, and has been busting out dope movies like it’s nobody’s business. I mean, quite literally every movie this guy has made since 1996 has been good.

So far, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have the primary wins, and some candidates still have a lot of catching up to do.

Marco Rubio still has a small shot (despite what the vast majority the media says), but if he doesn’t step up tonight, he’s going to have a hard time getting out of this thing on top. Will anyone take down Trump? Hopefully. At this point, the man has won all but one caucus, so here’s hoping his winning streak ends there.

Macklemore new album stream

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s new album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made drops today, and the pair hit the ground running with a release concert in their native Seattle streaming live on Amazon.

Nobody ever accused the rapper of slacking off (He’s Macklemore, not Mackleless). His self-made success with Lewis on their debut album The Heist was an independent outlier that rocked and/or rolled the music industry. But rather than bask in their accolades, they withdrew to the wilderness so they could keep their heads right and their creative spark alive.

It’s been epic times for Macklemore, who not only had his first child following The Heist‘s release, but more pertinent to this album, got back into drugs amid all the pressure of being on top. No wonder he’s emerged from the cabin with this deliberate “fuck-up” but you tell us if he succeeded or should go back into the woods.

This Unruly Mess I’ve Made also features a bundle of terrific guest artists, from contemporaries like Jamila Woods to legends who undoubtedly influenced Macklemore’s style, like KRS-One and Kool Moe Dee. There’s also a visit from…Idris Elba? Turns out Stringer Bell’s a pretty good DJ. (Don’t pretend you wouldn’t run away from civilization either to make music with Idris Elba.)

It’s More Stressful To Be a Waiter Than a Neurosurgeon, According to New Study

Serving Stressful Study

According to a new study, if you’re training to be a doctor, you have it easy; it’s more stressful to work as a server than a neurosurgeon.

Don’t mind the fact that you’re literally tearing through someone’s brain without accidentally killing him. Delivering that salad with extra dressing on the side is just as terrifying.

According to Munchies, “a new study has found that demanding jobs offering employees little control—step forward weekend brunch server on a 12 hour split-shift—are among the most detrimental to mental and physical health.”

That makes sense… but still, you’re dealing with someone else’s life when you’re a doctor. I’d say that warrants a sh*t to of stress – enough to wear down your mental and physical health, but that’s just me.

Performed by scientists at Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, scientists analyzed the data of over 138,700 people from six previous studies pertaining to job-related health. From there, they classified jobs into four groups based on control and how psychologically demanding the occupation is.

Low demand and low control jobs such as manual labour were labelled “Passive,” jobs with high control like architects and scientists were “Low Stress,” and jobs with both high demand and high control (think teachers or doctors) were “Active.”

The category labelled “High Stress” encompassed jobs that were demanding but with low levels of control. Yep, our old friend the waitstaff gig.

Scientists found that waiters and waitresses have a 22 percent higher risk of stroke on average than those with low stress jobs. The figure jumps to 33 percent for women when the data is split by gender.

Jesus.

They also argue that neurosurgeons in particular may feel psychologically drained at the end of a shift, but are bound to feel more appreciated than the server working at the local bar. Because of this, those in these kind of positions were found to have an increased risk of stroke or heart problems.

So really, we should all just stop working all together. It’s bad for your health! WHO’S WITH ME?!
