Oscar Gift Bag 2015: Vaporizer And More Gifts You Won’t Believe

Oscar gift bag 2015

This year’s Oscar Gift Bag–the door prize for everyone nominated for an Academy Award–is valued at $125K and includes vibrators and weed vaporizers. Hollywood is so edgy, guys.

But no seriously, a small part of me thinks this is hilarious and the larger part of me is really pissed I didn’t pay more attention to Mr. Duncan and his acting tips. I want this bag. Sh*t, I want anything that’s valued at $125K. Here’s what’s in the bag, via Variety:

• 3-night stay at a resort in Tuscany ($1,500)

• Luxury train ride through the Canadian Rockies ($14,500+)

• French Mediterranean sea salts worth ($1,500)

• Custom silver necklace inscribed with the latitude and longitude coordinates of the Dolby Theater from Lat & Lo ($150)

• A “glamping trip” ($12,500)

• $800 gift certificate for custom candy and dessert buffet

Haze vaporizer ($250)

• Afterglow vibrator ($250)

• Wellness 360 gift pack ($1,200)

• Year’s worht of all-Audi A4 car rental ($20,000)

• Reset Yourself lifestyle makeover package ($14,200)

We’ll be the first to admit that a lot of this stuff sounds pointless but awesome, however the one prize I actually have a problem with is the “Reset Yourself” lifestyle makeover package. Dudes, these people are making MILLIONS in movies. Tell me again what the f*ck they need to “reset?”

Just sit back with your Haze vaporizer and (if you’re a girl) your Afterglow vibrator and enjoy yourselves.

One note: The people who get these Academy Awards gift bags have to pay taxes on them. For that reason, most people give them away.

Kendra Sunderland Launches Sugar Dating Site

Kendra Sunderland Site
Kendra Sunderland is about to break the internet way harder than Kim Kardashian ever did. The former OSU student garnered recognition after making an adult video in her college’s library last year, and has since been seen trying to blow pizza delivery boys and divulging why the library was the sweet spot.

See the Hottest Photos of OSU Student Kendra Sunderland here.

Now she’s back with a new business endeavor: before her fame runs out, Sunderland is launching a sugar dating site called DateBrokeCollegeGirls.com.

The point is similar to the site Seeking Arrangement – for hot, debt-drowning college students to get things paid for by generous, wealthy suitors. Sunderland explains, “I wanted to create a place online where young women can feel empowered, and meet successful individuals that can help them during a very stressful and challenging time…I’m personally a member of the sugar dating community, and have seen the benefits these relationships provide a young woman firsthand. Everyone benefits from having a mentor that can help you navigate challenges, especially ones they’ve overcome themselves – like managing student debts and starting a career.”

The site is the first of it’s kind to be run by an actual sugar baby. Uh, kudos?

James Harden had his jersey #13 retired last night by ASU, officially making him one of Arizona State University’s best players. Watch the ceremony in a video shot from the cheap seats here. We’re looking for a better version now. [lead image via HouseofSparky]

It goes without saying, but Harden deserves a retirement ceremony (even if it is really early). Halfway through the season, The Beard is the frontrunner to win NBA MVP. He’s also one of the Sun Devils most respected athletes, for his performances both on and off the court.

It takes a special kind of animal to be able to survive the ASU party life in one piece, and it looks like James is doing just that. We had the opportunity to ask him about his time at ASU in an interview earlier this Summer, so make sure to read that here. Spoiler alert: Oregano’s was his favorite spot.

I wonder how many of his friends expected the man below to grow into the man above.

The man’s still got it by the way.

As you’re no doubt aware, it’s not only cold as balls right now it’s snowing everywhere. For that reason a lot of colleges and universities have cancelled class (or should–I see you UTennessee).

But all that snow isn’t stopping the party, it’s just making it wilder–as powder is apt to do. Just look at these dudes from Old Dominion University.

But not everyone is as crazy these people. Instead, they use their natural surroundings and improvise. Check out these students who are taking advantage of the natural beer cooler and built beer pong tables out of the snow.

The movie Fight Club is one of the most popular films of our generation, so you should be pretty excited that Chuck Palahniuk has finished writing Fight Club 2. Some imaginary friends never go away… Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, he lives a mundane life. A kid, a wife, pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long; the wife has seen to that. The time has come…Rize or Die.

Hef’s inked exclusive deal with the publishers (Dark Horse), but we still wanted to show you a sneak preview of what’s to come. Make sure to check out Playboy for the full six pages though.

Goran Dragic Trade Heat

Goran Dragic has been traded to the Miami Heat, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Technically the deal hasn’t gone through yet, but if we could believe anyone in the world it’s Woj. He’s pretty much batting 1.000.

Woj is also reporting that Milwaukee’s dealt Brandon Knight to the Suns, so there’s got to be a much bigger deal going down.

Of course, as a New York Knick fan playing the Miami Heat tomorrow I’m pissed. But the tank rolls on.

The 2015 gaming year has finally started to get moving, thanks to two major releases that were originally meant for last year but were pushed back due to delays. One is Evolve, the multiplayer-focused shooter in which one guy plays as a humongous beast that the others take on as puny humans. There’s also The Order: 1886, a steampunk shooter about a secret society of extraordinary gentlemen who protect the unsuspecting populace in covert missions. On the download tip, new DLC for Far Cry 4 and the PS4 bullet hell opus Super Stardust Ultra are out to compete with the big boys for your attention and cash.

Reviews by Phil Villarreal. Phil is an authorblogger and Twitterer. Publishers provided review copies.

Evolve

Evolve

(Xbox One, PS4, $60, Mature)

Asymetric multiplayer is the buzz term in this innovative multiplayer shooter, which has a squadron of four brave and stupid operatives take on a towering monster controlled by another player. The David vs. Goliath feel echoes last year’s Titanfall, but there’s an entirely different feel here. Your strategy varies greatly depending on what role you take on. It’s no surprise that it’s the most fun to play as the beast (a rotation among ungodly creations dubbed Wraith, Kraken and, appropriately, Goliath), who is assaulted from all sides as he gobbles up monsters to morph into increasingly larger, uglier and deadlier menaces. It’s thrilling to stalk and destroy your helpless, futile prey. Thrilling animations and lavish maps filled with hazards and hiding spots make for relentless tension.

On the other side, there’s also a tremendous thrill to working with others in order to conquer an all-but-invincible beast. The problem with the game is the same problem with humanity. Random pairings heaped upon you by matchmaking tend to group you with uncommunicative idiots, making it too easy for whoever is lucky enough to play as the monster to pick your team apart. The best way to play the game is to band together with four friends, making it impossible for a moron to come in and screw things up. Evolve, which goes all in on an excellent concept that tends to fall apart in gameplay, is better in theory than in practice. Despite the frustrations brought on by other players, there’s still enough here to make the game one of the best multiplayer offerings on current-gen systems.

Overrun

Far Cry 4 Overrun DLC

(Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, $5, Mature)

Available for $5 alone or as part of the $30 season pass, the multiplayer-only DLC doles out a badly needed expansion to one of the game’s weaker facets. which was low on modes and creativity. A new PvP mode called Overrun pits two factions against each other, bent on taking over zones with manpower to rack up points until the opposition drives them out. A welcome, more strategic, tweak to the standard team deathmatch, the mode will probably become the go-to game for those looking for more to do after finishing the campaign.

Four new maps, all optimized for Overrun, further sweeten the deal, and there’s also a new vehicle — a dune buggy —  for players to fight over. Once in control of that bad boy, you can run over enemies or strafe them in speedy drive-bys. Definitely worth the $5 for those who are bored with the standard multiplayer options but hooked on the feel and stalk-and-kill aesthetics of the main game, Overrun makes the season pass further sweetens the deal for season pass owners.

The Order 1886

The Order: 1886

(PS4, $60, Mature)

Set in an alternate, steampunkified version of Victorian-era London, The Order; 1886 taps into the time-machine appeal of games such as Assassin’s Creed and Dishonored. Your squad is made up of well-coiffed, dapper gentlemen who aren’t afraid to bust heads, strangle bad guys or bust caps in their werewolf enemies. Prim, proper dialogue that would fit in well with a Sherlock Holmes novel or Merchant Ivory movie mixes surprisingly well with absurd outbursts of violence and white-knuckle chase sequences that are as hardcore as those of modern action flicks. Like the Uncharted games and Tomb Raider reboot, gameplay is a mixture between stop-and-pop shooting and quick-time-event aided close-quarters combat.

The story, which plays out like a well-written miniseries, maintains its momentum with rich characters and well-tuned dialogue. That doesn’t help a the odd design choice of sometimes unskippable cutscenes you have to sit through if you keep on screwing up particularly difficult missions. The shooting, which requires tedious reloading befitting the technology of the era, sometimes makes you long for the rapidfire instant gratification of modern games, but has a certain charm and gameplay wrinkle that makes you rethink the way you attack a floor full of enemies. While sometimes as tedious as it is engrossing, The Order: 1886 is overall a gem that leaves you wanting more and makes you hope it’s the start of a fascinating new franchise.

Super Stardust Ultra
Super Stardust Ultra

(PS4, $13, Everyone)

The long-awaited and welcome follow-up to Super Stardust space shooters on PS3 and PSP finally gives genre players who are tired of Resogun another challenge to relish. In the style of Geometry Wars, you flu around a 2D plane around a rotating, 3D-world, blasting your way through a constant barrage of enemies. You pick up power-ups and stat boosts along the way, trying to survive wave after wave of assaults as you rack up scores that will help you climb the leaderboards.

The mechanics of the series that date back several years remain intact, with tight, responsive controls and engaging, predictable-but-deadly enemies. The visuals won’t dazzle you, but that’s not the point here. It’s easy to lose yourself in the moment, slipping into the zone as you let your rapid twitch reflexes take over, flying around and shooting your way to survival. PS4 owners have an addictive new timekiller on their hands.

HS Basketball

Anyone who’s ever played organized basketball knows this play. You’re inbounding the ball and the guy guarding you has his back turned. What do you do? Throw it off his back.

The thing is, no one ever gets to do this. It’s rare as f*ck. Why do you think #5 Devon Andrews is smiling before the play? He just hit a jackpot.

So the fact that this short white kid had this happen to him and got dunked on makes me hurt. Obviously props to Devon for the heads up play, but c’mon #21. Play better defense. Maybe that’s why your team is losing 39-74.

Weed
In the near future, you’ll be able to satisfy your munchies with Ben and Jerry’s marijuana ice cream. Score.

In an interview with Huffington Post, founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield hinted at making the concoction after legalization, explaining that it would “make sense” to combine both “pleasures.”

Greenfield went on to add, “Ben and I have had previous experiences with substances, and I think legalizing marijuana is a wonderful thing…It’s not my decision. If it were my decision, I’d be doing it, but fortunately we have wiser heads at the company that figure those things out.”

Jerry boy, we hear you. We’re were waiting for the day we can light up in the street and eat some cannabis ice cream, but until then, stock up on Little Caesar’s bacon crust pizza after a night of getting stoned. That’ll definitely do.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’— Must-See Photo

Jason Momoa Aquaman Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Photo

So here’s what Jason Momoa will look like as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice–since the “Dawn of Justice” in the title is really the dawn of the Justice League of America, although the DC movie people will probably just make it “Justice League” now. Anyway, the Justice League comic is the DC Comics equivalent of Marvel’s The Avengers, and they’re very eager to get that franchise off the ground to compete with Marvel at the movies.

Jason Momoa is looking good, too. Nobody expected for the big-screen Aquaman to have a similar outfit to the one in the comics, anyway. That’s because the classic Aquaman outfit looks like this…

Aquaman DC Comics

The pic was posted overnight by director Zack Snyder via his Twitter account, so it’s going to be a geekgastic morning for a lot of folks. We mostly like the monochromatic hair on Momoa, and that they let him keep the trident. That trident’s important, man.

Now we’re going to stare at that Twitter account for a few more hours, in case Snyder decides to post another pic of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. She looks like this….

Harris Wittels of Humblebrag, Analyze Phish, and ‘Parks and Recreation,’ RIP [VIDEO]

Harris Wittels Dead RIP

Harris Wittels is dead of a heroin overdose at the age of 30, and that’s really depressing. Especially since the very busy comic had just done a show this Wednesday in Los Angeles that included some talk about how he was staying clean and recovered. It’ll take comedy a while to recover from losing Harris Wittels–who seems to mostly be getting cited as a producer of Parks and Recreation.

Which he was, but Harris also wrote at least one great episode of Eastbound and Down, and was a big part of the Analyze Phish podcast, and launched the whole “Humblebrag” movement, where he called out folks trying to look modest on Twitter while talking about their fabulous lives. There was a book, but we guess Humblebrag is now mostly immortalized via the original Twitter account. dfsdfsdf

Anyway, there’ll be a lot of tributes going on all day. Here’s Harris just being casually funny on a podcast. It’s not the episode where he talks about trying to score heroin at the park…

Big Ten Conference Discussing Making Freshmen Ineligible

Big 10 Freshman

The last 20 years have seen an influx of college athletes going to school for just one year and then jumping to the pro level in basketball while football players leave early all the time as well after their junior year or redshirt sophomore year. The Big Ten appears ready to make some changes that would have a huge ripple effect on every other conference around the country.

The conference is considering the idea of making freshmen athletes ineligible for competition. The statement is calling for a “national discussion regarding a year of readiness for student-athletes”. It is a shocking thought to see college basketball players who excelled in high school needing to sit out a year but it is something that was done in all NCAA sports until 1972.

If the Big Ten decides to go through with this, the question is what happens with the rest of the major conferences around the country. Are the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Pac-12 going to join the Big Ten then? The NBA has wanted the age limit to be raised to 20 which may be coming into play here. It is something that would change college basketball for sure and bears some serious watching over the next few months.
