Far Cry Escape Games

Well over a year after the release of the Xbox One and PS4, developers are still bent on resurrecting some of the best games from last generation on newer hardware. Saints Row IV is the latest to get the new-gen remake treatment, relaunching with the Re-Elected subtitle and arriving with fresh, new DLC dubbed Gat Out of Hell.

Another slice of DLC that does a solid job of freshening up its mainline game is Escape from Durgesh Prison, which gives you another reason to fire up Far Cry 4. There’s also a pair of excellent RPGs to try out: Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, to entice 3DS owners, and the downloadable Citizens of Earth – which is out on Nintendo’s and Sony’s latest systems.

Reviews by Phil Villarreal. Phil is an authorblogger and Twitterer. Publishers provided review copies.

Citizens of Earth

Citizens of Earth

(PS4, Vita, Wii , 3DS, $15, Everyone)

An RPG with feel close to Nintendo’s beloved Mother series, with hints of PersonaCitizens of Earth tasks you to scurry around a top-down overworld, recruiting party members to do your bidding in battle. Playing as the nation’s vice president, who returns to his hometown to find everyone has gone berserk, you trade favors with power brokers, hunt down lost items and engage in fights with irate opponents ranging from irate neighbors to your own smothering mom.

Clever, inventive writing permeates every aspect of the game, from the snappy dialogue, down to the naming of characters and items. Recurring gags — a mix of eye-rolling groaners and amusing chuckle-inducers — never grow tired, keeping the story fresh and lively from beginning to end. The 16-bit style graphics recall the golden era of RPGs, and the plot twists and narrative devices play on the nostalgia factor, peppering the experience with playful references. Publisher Atlus is known for sustaining long-running, fan-obsessing series, and Citizens of Earth seems to have the goods to be the next in line to take up the mantle.

Durgesh
Far Cry 4: Escape from Durgesh Prison DLC

(PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, $10, Mature)

A tight, engaging package that filters down many of Far Cry 4‘s excesses to get to the meat of what made the game one of 2014’s best, Escape from Durgesh Prison tells a mid-plot side story that makes you start with nothing and challenges you to emerge as a formidable warrior. Protagonists Ajay and Hurk find themselves imprisoned by the megalomaniacal Pagan Min and stripped of their weapons and abilities. You scrape together resources, build up your attack and defenses, then lead an uprising against enemy forces.

Although some gripe that the DLC is short and not worth the $10 price, there’s much to be said for DLC that adds only what’s necessary to create a fascinating experience, leaving unnecessary distractions and superfluous flourishes aside. The prison-escape story may be cliched, but it’s a well-executed and fulfilling power-grab fantasy here that leaves you wanting more. Those who sprung for the $30 season pass will get just that, with three more add-ons to come. If the quality of this DLC is any indication, there is plenty of fun ahead for Far Cry 4 fans.

Persona Q

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

(3DS, $50, Mature)

One of 2014’s best-reviewed RPGs is an absolute beast of an RPG that can take more than 100 hours to beat.  The tough-to-find game is well worthy of the commitments of premium time and money — the $50 price tag is one of the highest for 3DS releases — and will probably hook you so bad that you’ll keep on craving more. A blending of the moody high shool social sim/dungeon crawler Persona games and the sprightly, Final Fantasy-mold Etrian Odyssey adventures, Persona Q makes the seemingly incongruous series go together as though the pairing was a natural fit.

The story rounds up characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4, setting them loose in an Etrian Odyssey-flavored world filled with colossal battles and sprawling quests. You juggle a five-member party, selecting your team based on the strengths and weaknesses of their primary and alternate forms. You tangle with minibosses from Etrian Odyssey while juggling your characters’ social aspirations like you do in the Persona games. Even more admirable than the way it combines the best aspects of the two series is the way it disposes of some of the annoying aspects of both. There’s little Persona-style grinding or Etrian Odyssey-style drollness to be found here. The strange, yet oddly appropriate mash-up is one of the high points for Nintendo’s thriving handheld system.

Saints Row 4

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and Gat Out of Hell

(PS4, Xbox One, $50, Mature)

One of the strangest games I have played, Saints Row IV was a loving send-off for the Xbox 360/PS3 generation in 2013. Now resurrected for new-gen consoles along with previously released DLC and a new, hell-set expansion the game is primed to steal hours away from longtime rival Grand Theft Auto V just as it did on the older consoles. Although graphics have been given a facelift, they are still rough and simplistic compared to many other open-world titles. Saints Row IV surpasses most of its rivals, though, for its sheer sense of absurd, anything-goes fun.

That sense of wild irreverence cranks up higher than ever in Gat Out of Hell, in which your character — Johnny or Kenzie — is conned into marrying Satan’s daughter. Bent on preserving your freedom, you head out to take over hell and crush the devil just as you did gang members, space aliens and terrorists in the previous Saints Rows. As invigorating as it is to romp through hell, there is much more fun to be had in the main game, in which your overpowered character quickly takes on superhero-like abilities to the point where he can jump over buildings, outrun cars and level crowds with the swing of a fist. One of the guiltiest gaming pleasures from two years ago is back again to wreak its havoc and maintain its chokehold on your system’s disc drive.

COED And Monster Energy Kick Up Some Dirt At MSG Bull Riding Event

PBR NYC 2015

This past weekend, Madison Square Garden hosted the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) ‘Buck Off’ sponsored by Monster Energy and for the third consecutive year COED was there to bring you the action. The “Toughest Sport on Dirt” featured 35 of the World’s top bull riders competing against each other’s scores (as well as the bull’s score) for the top spot.

The objective of PBR is to ride for a total of 8 seconds – the clock stops when the rider’s hand comes out of the rope, the rider touches the ground or the rider’s free arm touches the bull – there is no score for rides lasting under 8 seconds.

Think you can hang on to a 2,000 lb bucking and jumping piece-of-meat with only one hand? We’d like to see you try*

While the sport of bull riding has been around for centuries, the organization of PBR is much newer – it was started in 1992 by a group of 20 bull riders who were looking for a way to gain more mainstream coverage. They were highly successful in this regard and PBR has been popularized by World Champions from Australia and Brazil.

Professional Bull Riding is one of the World’s fastest growing sports – check out COED’s photos below from the weekend’s Buck Off in NYC, which include KISS original drummer, Peter Criss and Barry Weiss one of the stars of the popular A&E show “Storage Wars.” Also in attendance was former Miss COED Ashley Michaelsen.

*We would not like to see – please stop emailing us videos.

Maryse Mizanin Maryse Ouellet Hottest Photos

Maryse Mizanin was born unto this world as Maryse Ouellet on January 21, 1983–and by any name, she has a big following as one of the WWE’s most exotic divas. Maryse Mizanin’s real heyday with the WWE between 2006 and 2011, but those were very impressionable years for plenty of young wrestling fans.  [photo via..]

The Canadian beauty (from Quebec, natch) started out on the beauty queen circuit, as the fitness model posed for the  Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada pageant in 2003. She made it into the WWE after a 2006visit to the WWE Diva Search competition–earning the WWE Divas Championship title by 2008, and holding on tot he belt for an unprecedented seven months.

Hard to believe that she’s a realtor in Los Angeles now, but WWE fans are still hoping for more of Maryse in the ring. Check out these pics below and see why the blond battling beauty ranks right up there with other COED favorites–like Layla, Natalya, Rosa Mendes, Kelly Kelly, and Summer Rae, along with SmackDown sweeties like Aksana, KaitlynMichelle McCool, Alicia FoxPaigeCameronTrish StratusEva Marie, and The Bella Twins.

DeflateGate: 11/12 Of New England Patriots’ Footballs Deflated

deflategate, new england patriots deflated balls

Reports surfaced late Sunday night after the New England Patriots won the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts that the Patriots may have used deflated footballs in the game. It is now known as deflategate. Late Tuesday night, ESPN reported that sources told them that 11 of the 12 game balls New England used were indeed underinflated by a large margin.

The report said that the footballs were underinflated by 2 pounds per square inch of air less than what’s required by NFL regulations. This is a much bigger deal now if the full investigation proves this to be correct. The Patriots are going to need to be punished for their actions and in a very big way for doing something like this to gain an advantage.

That should mean the loss of draft picks and a hefty fine of over $1 million. The NFL didn’t need any more black eyes this season with the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson situations but it appears the Patriots are up to their old tricks again. The official answer to what happened with the NFL’s investigation could come out as early as Wednesday. There should be some very nervous people involved with the team and whoever was the one who deflated the balls in the first place.

College Students Get Selfie with “Rocky” Himself While Running Stairs In Philadelphia

AP PEOPLE STALLONE ROCKY STEPS A ENT USA PA

Fans from all around the world make trips to Philadelphia all the time so they can pretend they are “Rocky” and run up the stairs at the city’s Museum of Art. On Saturday however, some fans that had just run to the top of those stairs got a major surprise when Rocky himself was standing there. Sylvester Stallone was in town for filming on Creed, who is the next movie in the whole Rocky series.

The three college students got a selfie with Stallone and now have a story that they can tell for a long time to come. It is just ironic that people were running up the stairs when Stallone came out of the museum. He probably didn’t expect that to happen. There are thousands of people who do the run every year and then take a picture with a Rocky statue but don’t get that photo.

This is something that likely isn’t going to happen again but with Stallone in Philadelphia right now, anything is possible. This may make even more fans show up in the city of Brotherly Love hoping to get their own photo with Rocky. Stallone didn’t have to take the time out for the photo but appreciated what the college kids were up to. Rocky and his legacy lives on nearly 40 years after the first movie was made.

Marshawn Lynch Gets New Marijuana Strain: Beastmode 2.0

BeastMode 2.0 Weed

Marshawn Lynch has been given a second marijuana strain–named “Beastmode 2.0″–after the Seattle Seahawks RB booked their return trip to the Super Bowl.

Some of you might remember that the “Beastmode” strain came out around this time last year. Growers were apparently so happy with last year’s strain that they wanted to bring back a stronger version of Beastmode in 2015. Beastmode 2.0 will now have 5% more THC than last year’s strain.

The strain will be sold at the Queen Anne Cannabis Club in Seattle a recreational marijuana dispensary that specializes in deliveries. Rumor has it that their couriers will smoke Beastmode 2.0 to ensure that they deliver the package no matter the resistance.

But why stop at BeastMode? Here are a few other strains we think should be made in celebration of the Seattle Seahawks:

• DangeRuss Kush

• Legion of Choom

• 12th Man Haze

NYU Student Sets Fire To Drunk, Sleeping Classmate

Fire
NYU student Jaime Castano was arraigned Tuesday on assault and reckless endangerment charges after setting a fellow classmate on fire in August. Castano recorded the incident on his cell phone while singing – because he’s demonic? – and later snapchatted it to a set of, presumably, horrified viewers. The 19-year-old victim, who was also intoxicated, was asleep in Castano’s dormitory and was clueless as to how the fire had started, until she received the snapchat the following day. She suffered burns to her torso.

The moronic 20-year-old faced expulsion in September, however NYU officials didn’t report the incident until late October. Castano was ordered held on $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash bail.

2015 Glaad Awards nominees

If the 2015 GLAAD Media Awards Nominees are any indication of gays and lesbians in the media, they’re not just here and queer, but also pretty outstanding at filmmaking.

Transparent already netted Jeffrew Tambor a Golden Globes award for “Best Performance in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy by an Actor,” but there are plenty of other productions and performances that stood out in 2014/2015.

SAE Jungle Party At Texas Tech Featured Lots Of Sexy Cats [VIDEO]

Texas Tech SAE Jungle Party video

The SAE Jungle Party is one of the biggest ragers at Texas Tech every year. Unlike other massive parties some fraternities throw, the Jungle is actually held at SAE’s fraternity house–as opposed to clubs or something. You’ll notice that this adds the proper amount of sweat one would normally experience in a real world jungle.

While the event technically happened in late November (right in the middle of duck hunting season–hence all the camo) Haze Music Group (@HazeMusicGroup) only recently put the final touches on the video.

Drunk, sexy cats everywhere.

But one final word. I’m not really too sure how a Confederate hat fits into the overall theme of a jungle, but if a black chick can get down with it, do your thing.

LIL WAYNE 2
After three long years, rap guru Lil Wayne debuted his newest mixtape Sorry 4 the Wait 2 late last night. Complete with 17 tracks – featuring high profile artists like Nicki Minaj, Drake, 2 Chainz, and Christina Milian – the compilation is a follow-up to his 2011 mixtape of the same name. The track listing was originally released as an inferred apology for the delay of his 2011 album Tha Carter IV. Now the rapper finds himself in a similar situation; thanks to an ongoing battle between Wayne and Birdman (the head honcho at Cash Money records), Tha Carter V’s release date has also been pushed back. While the wait is a killer, at least we have Sorry 4 the Wait 2 to hold us over. That said, all is forgiven. Check out the full stream below.

Charlotte Mckinney–our favorite blonde ever–is completely undressed in the new Carl’s Junior 2015 Super Bowl commercial titled “Au Naturel.” The commercial is for… well, we’ll let you watch the video first before we talk anymore.

So anyways, the commercial is for Hardees/Carl’s Jr’s and their first All-Natural Burger with grass-fed, free-range beef that has no added hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.

No doubt this is going to cause a sh*tstorm of parents who don’t want their children watching nekkid models walk across their livingroom on television. But let them complain. That’s only going to draw more attention to the commercial, giving Charlotte more exposure.

Oh what? She’s not actually in her birthday suit and the whole thing was just staged to look like she was? Nevermind. Parents will love that this on national television.

university of michigan ski trip

Three University of Michigan fraternities reportedly caused over $50K worth of damage at two separate ski resorts this past weekend. That’s a whole lotta dues and formal money down the toilet, especially because it seems like most of the havoc was caused by Sigma Alpha Mu.

Here’s the full news report:

The long and short of it is that Sigma Alpha Mu is the only fraternity that’s named in the report and they supposedly trashed the Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI. All the damage you see in the video is from that night.

We found this photo below on Instagram that was taken at the time, and you can clearly see that some tiles are missing from the ceiling. (It’s not like you couldn’t tell the place was a disaster from the video, but we just wanted to let you know we did some investigating of our own.)

Michigan Party

But yeah, sh*t got A LOT worse as the night wore on.

Anonymous friends of the two other unnamed fraternities have since posted on the news channel’s website claming that their damage was more accidental than what you saw from SAM.

All we know is that if you’re a fraternity and you’re having a party somewhere, more than likely you’re not going to get your security deposit back.

Dr Steve Brule Bagboy Preview

Even though it doesn’t look like John C Reilly’s Check it Out with Dr. Steve Brule will return for a fourth season right now, the good news is that the good doctor will return in a new 30-minute special on Adult Swim, titled Bagboy.

Since very little that we write about Dr. Brule will add anything to his legacy, we’ll just leave you with this preview of Bagboy below.

Jennifer Lopez Complex Cover

Singer Jennifer Lopez proves age doesn’t defy sex appeal with her cover for the February/March issue of Complex. The magazine’s voyeuristic spread features the curvy star as the babe next door, giving men hope that their neighbor will one day be as hot as JLo. The shoot alludes to the 45-year-old’s upcoming film The Boy Next Door, a stalker-like romance about a newly separated high school teacher who begins a relationship with her teenage neighbor. After seeing how great her body looks, we can understand why the dude would get a little obsessive. Check out the photos below for a sneak peak of the spread.
