We’ve all been wasting the work week watching that new Mad Max: Fury Road trailer over and over–but have you noticed Charlize Theron’s hot pants in that thing? Yeah, we had to take a closer look, too. Everybody’s still speculating and piecing together the plot, and all we know for sure is that Charlize Theron is playing a character named Imperator Furiosa, whose job seems to involve protecting the virtue of a post-Apocalyptic beauty played by Rosie Huntingon-Whiteley.

Also, it sure looks like Charlize’s shorts do a fine job of protecting her own virtue. Damn. You come across the most interesting things when you’re doing a frame-by-frame analysis of a cool upcoming action movie because that’s your job and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Anyway, looks like Mad Max: Fury Road will be just as cool as all the other entries. Remember the “Spin Again” slot on the Wheel of Justice in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome? Yeah, you got to look close to catch everything in a Mad Max movie. Now let’s watch the trailer again…

SantaCon 2014 is coming to NYC this Saturday (December 13th), so if you’re a resident of the five boroughs and don’t want to be accosted by drunk Santas, do not go outside. If SantaCon is anything like it’s been in the past few years–a total sh*tshow–then your favorite bars will be overrun, there will be no taxis available for you, and you might catch some particularly lewd acts of Santas getting a little handsy.

But if you’re like us and enjoy getting drunk with a fake beard and a bunch of Santas, then join us as we completely ignore suggested routes for the SantaCon bar crawl and just hit up our favorite spots.

NYC will likely be one of the last cities to celebrate SantaCon 2014, and as you’ll see in the photos below there are a good amount of people who’ve already made their way to the “Naughty List.”

Just like Frank Cotanza, who, after beating a fellow shopper, needed a new holiday instead of Christmas, I recognized that you need different winter seasonal craft beers to enjoy. This week’s beer review focuses on one of my favorite named and favorite tasting winter spiced brews. This weekend, a new brew, a Festivus Ale, for the rest-of-us is What’s on Tap!

As a small neighborhood of Philadelphia, Manayunk (pronounced Man-ee-unk) is a hub for great small restaurants and an awesome brewery that is producing some great seasonal brews. Festivus Ale is a great small batch spiced winter warmer. To me, the most interesting aspect of this ale is the fruit and spice combination. Even before the initial sip there is a distinct fruit quality to it; I get some cherries and plumbs which are mixed with typical winter spices like allspice and ginger. The taste of Festivus Ale, like the aroma, is a combination of biscuity malts, the plumbs, and the spices, nutmeg, allspice, and ground ginger. There is not much to the backend of this brew, maybe a touch of hops but nothing that takes away from the malty frontend.

If you are looking for a well-balanced winter brew that you can drink throughout the holiday season, Festivus Ale is a great choice. Tonight I am grilling a steak, a ribeye, but to help with the pairing I am melting some blue cheese crumbles on the steak just before I take it off the grill!

South Dakota has officially pulled its “Don’t Jerk and Drive” campaign, which puts an end to one of the weirder safe-driving campaigns to ever get pushed on the public. The campaign was originally supposed to keep driver aware of the risks of overcorrecting when driving on icy roads. You might jerk the wheel and end up skidding on ice and crashing. The roads can get icy in South Dakota.

See, that sounds perfectly innocent. This is where we’d usually goof on the authorities for accidentally coming up with some wording that sounded a lot more like a dirty joke. We have plenty of “Don’t Jerk and Drive” jokes ready to go already. But in a really weird twist, the Department of Public Safety was actually trying to be funny.

That didn’t work out. As explained by the secretary for the Department of Public Safety, “This is an important safety message, and I don’t want this innuendo to distract from our goal to save lives on the road.”

And so we lose the #DontJerkAndDrive hashtag, plus clever slogans like “Think before you jerk,” “Jerking isn’t a joke,” and “Keep calm and don’t jerk the wheel.” At least we still have this video–until they yank it. Can they yank it? Tax dollars paid for this thing, and we know that it’s just junk now, but we don’t think the government should be yanking taxpayer’s junk…

Christmas isn’t complete without a delicious glass of eggnog, and when you make it with Maker’s Mark Bourbon Whisky, things only get better. Using Maker’s Mark this year will show people that you’re a “classy adult,” but not in an “afraid to wear an ugly Christmas sweater” kind of way.

The Newsroom: Series Finale

Controversy arose over the show’s handling of rape issues, which indicates Sorkin may be out of touch enough with social media lynch mobs that he’ll cause some real trouble with this swan song. Women Who’ve Won Their Weeks!

A date in mid-December seem an odd timefor the official Ice Cream Day–but we prefer it to the other official Ice Cream Day that’s in summer. That’s because we prefer our ice cream as a year-round treat in cocktails. Add in the holiday spirit, and you can keep drinking alcoholic ice cream treats into winter without anyone giving you the side eye, too.

With that in mind–and with holiday parties in intoxicating abundance tonight–celebrate Ice Cream Day with some specialty cocktail confections that can be scooped before being shaken or stirred. Here are five fine holiday ice cream cocktail recipes for Ice Cream Day (and we also recommend eggnog with Maker’s Mark)…

Frosty Noggin

1½ oz rum
¾ oz white creme de cacao
3 oz eggnog
3 cups vanilla ice cream
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a parfait glass and top with whipped cream. Garnish with a few drops of green creme de menthe and a rolled cookie, and serve.

Peppermint Twist

1½ oz peppermint schnapps
1/2 oz white creme de cacao
3 scoops vanilla ice cream
Blend and pour into a parfait glass. Garnish with a mint sprig and a candy cane.

Polar Bear

½ oz white crème de cacao
½ oz crème de menthe
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Milk
Pour ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth. Add little milk to thin out while blending.

Mount Gay Pumpkin Pie Frappe

2 oz. Mount Gay Eclipse rum
4 tsp. pumpkin puree
2 tsp. Sugar in the Raw
1 pinch(es) cinnamon
1 pinch(es) Allspice
3 oz half-and-half
1 cup vanilla ice cream
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Flurry of Snow (Punch)

1/2 bottle vodka
1 bottle sparkling wine
2 cups peach juice
2 cups passion fruit juice
4 cups vanilla ice cream
Pour juice and vodka into a large punch bowl. Add vanilla ice in small portions and stir. As it melts, add sparkling wine.

It’s a big night for Charli XCX, as she begins her bid to break out big in America with a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live. Of course, it’s been a few years since a Saturday Night Live appearance guaranteed success. That wasn’t even a guarantee back in the last century–as you can see by checking otu the Forgotten Musical Guests of SNL. We’re also pretty excited to say that Sucker–which comes out this Tuesday–is pretty great, too. Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota is this year’s winner of the Heisman Award. That’s a first for the University of Oregon, although the college has always had Heisman-worthy cheerleaders. The Ducks haven’t landed a Hesiman in the award’s past 79 years, though. That’s a big deal for the Oregon junior. It’s less of  a big deal that he’s an underclassman. Saturday Night Live was hosted by Martin Freeman last night, and here are a few things people know about the guy: Martin Freeman originally became a star in the UK by starring as the equivalent of the Jim character in the original version of The Office. Nowadays, Martin is also pretty famous as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Watson in the Sherlock television series while also enjoying a string of box-office hits as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy that wraps up in theaters this month.

And so we got the very predictable (but still kind of fun) merging of The Office: Middle Earth edition last night on SNL. Never mind that most people don’t know about The Office‘s original version. There were comedy geeks to be appeased. We could complain this thing would’ve made a lot more sense back when the first Hobbit was released just as NBC’s The Office began its final season, but that’s okay. It’s still fun–and Freeman’s agent looks smart to have waited for the final Hobbit to get him some SNL exposure. It looks like a lot of people fell in love with Martin Freeman last night. We’re assuming a lot of guys got goofy over sexy pop star Charli XCX, too…

The massive science 1965 fiction novel Dune by Frank Herbert represented a huge leap forward in fantasy literature and a repeated series of impossibilities for filmmakers who attempted to adapt it for the screen. On December 14, 1984, director David Lynch unveiled his cinematic vision of Dune to the world. Thirty years later, it remains a puzzle over which fans and detractors alike repeatedly return to marvel. Few movies blow minds more unequivocally.

For example, the above picture is Professor X overseeing a knife fight between Special Agent Dale Cooper and Sting.

Dune has already gotten plenty of attention this year, with a popular documentary chronicling a failed 1971 attempt to make the movie with Jodorowsky’s Dune. After that, Dune seemed doomed for a decade–that is, until movie mogul Dino DeLaurentiis’s right to film the material was about to run out.

In 1980, producer Mel Brooks hired avant-garde Eraserhead weirdo David Lynch to direct The Elephant Man, and the result was a masterpiece. George Lucas had even offered Return of the Jedi to Lynch. That’s when DeLaurentiis approached Lynch with a deal: in exchange for helming Dune, Lynch would get carte blanche to make any project he wanted. (That turned out to be Lynche’s surreal classic mystery Blue Velvet). The result may or may not be a masterpiece, but Dune is certainly…something.

David Lynch’s Dune took three years to film, cost a then-astronomical $40 million, and the first cut ran four hours (it was eventually trimmed to two-hours, seventeen minutes). Whereas Pink Floyd had once been on board to do a Dune soundtrack, this version’s songs are by the legendary rockers of—um, Toto.

Critics decried everything from the movie’s look to its length to its sheer impossibility to follow, and certain elements even garnered hysterical charges of homophobia. A line of Dune toys hit shelves for Christmas and hit cut-out bins by December 26–although they cost plenty now.

Lynch’s whole Dune endeavor is preposterously amazing, cosmically confusing, beautifully ugly, mesmerizingly unendurable, and an experience any true movie geek must have. The film is a cult classic and deservedly so. You might have to work to love it, but that’s one of the main reasons that, for thirty years ago as of today, Dune still captivates and infuriates. It was a pretty great week on the daily COED Instagram feed, and that makes us sad that there are only a few more weeks left in 2014–although we’re pretty sure that Instagram beauties like Ashley Heinrichs (above) will be looking beautiful into 2015. We’re even thinking that we’re going to keep seeing bikini babes into the new year. It seems that gals like Gia Marie, Krystle Lina, and Cina Luks will always find ways to get into swimwear.

Ashley isn’t the only lady rocking lingerie, though. Sexy Instagram Pics!

[UPDATE WITH ARREST INFO] There’s a lot of mourning in the world of college football as Auburn redshirt Jakell Mitchell was murdered Sunday morning at an apartment complex near the Auburn University campus. In fact, it’s the same Auburn apartment complex where former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips were killed (and other wounded) in a 2012 shooting. The apartment complex changed its name after those murders.

The police responded to a call at 12:25 on Sunday morning to the Tiger Lodge complex, where the body of 18-year-old Mitchell was discovered. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Obviously, the details of the shooting are still waiting to be discovered, but the national mourning began overnight via Twitter.

UPDATE: Markale Hart, 22 has been arrested and charged with the murder of Jakell Mitchell–as reported by Captain Lorenza Dorsey of the Auburn Police Division . Here’s the official statement, with Hart now in the Lee County jail and eligible for  $150,000 bond:

Kristin Bauer van Straten on Once Upon a Time (8:00 pm, ABC)

The humble See Her Tonight column only stops in for important news nowadays–and we can’t think of anything more important than Kristin Bauer van Straten returning to Sunday nights on Once Upon a Time. We’ve sure missed Kristin Bauer van Straten on True Blood, where she regularly wreaked havoc as scheming vampire Pam De Beaufort. That show wrapped up earlier this year, but now we have Kristin back in action on OUaT, as the show wraps up its Frozen storyline and brings back some real bad girls.  [photo via…]

Tonight’s episode of “Heroes and Villains” brings back Kristin as the small-screen Maleficent, plus we also get Cruela De Vil joining the campy action (as played by Dracula‘s Victoria Smurfit.) And we’ll go ahead and note that Kristin drew lots of comparisons to Angelina Jolie back when both were starting out in the ’90s. Amazing “See Her Tonight” Gals!

This 2014-15 NHL season has seen many interesting storylines. However, the biggest one of them all must be the mumps outbreak that has swept the league. It’s become an official crisis now that the sport’s biggest attraction has joined the fun. Sidney Crosby will miss the Pittsburgh Penguins’ game on Monday–after already missing the two previous games for “precautionary reasons.” [photo: Jamie Sabau/Getty]

There have been 11 other players besides Crosby that has gotten the mumps this season and it appears that there is no end in sight to players getting it. There will be more players probably in the coming weeks that end up getting the mumps as well even though most people receive a shot to avoid the disease when there are small children.

The team says that Crosby “will be monitored daily and should be out of the infectious period by Monday.” This has to have many NHL teams wondering what to do about it and there probably isn’t anything that can be done. There are surely going to be more of the sport’s biggest stars who get the mumps at one point or another sooner than later. It has reached a new level of awareness now that Crosby has it though.
