While Avengers: Infinity War is easily (by a million miles) the best Marvel Cinematic Universe film to date, I (along with many other professional and semi-professionals) had a little bit of an issue with it’s (highly controversial and memeable) ending.

While I was on board with the idea of killing off major heroes, it’s who Marvel Studios decided to kill off that ultimately made the ending feel cheap.

Among those that vanished into thin air were Black Panther, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, and Star-Lord, and while those deaths may sound dramatic on paper, careful inspection proves otherwise.

When you consider the fact that Black Panther and Spider-Man were just introduced into the MCU within the last year and that all of these heroes have sequels in the works, it makes the ending of Infinity War seem like a mere plot device.

Anyway, I digress — the POINT of this article is despite the fact that they vanished in the post-credits scene of Infinity War, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hall have both been confirmed for next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Vulture can confirm that Jackson will also star in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which means Fury will share scenes with Tom Holland’s web-slinger for the first time. That sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 5, 2019, roughly two months after the still-untitled fourth Avengers film will presumably de-dust both Nick Fury and Peter Parker.

What’s more, we can confirm that Cobie Smulders will be joining Jackson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where she’ll reprise her character Maria Hill, Fury’s frequent comrade-in-arms.

Spider-Man: Far From Home — which is due out on July 5, 2019 — will also star Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. It is the third film of Marvel’s 2019 slate, following the March release of Captain Marvel and the still-untitled (End Game, anyone?) Avengers 4 in May.

Chicago Blackhawks legend Stan Mikita passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7 at age 78, his family announced. Mikita was the Blackhawks’ all-time leading scorer with 1,467 points. He played his entire 22-year career in Chicago, winning the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer four times and leading the team to the 1961 Stanley Cup. Mikita, whose No. 21 was retired by the franchise, was also the Hart Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL MVP in 1967 and 1968.

“There are no words to describe our sadness over Stan’s passing. He meant so much to the Chicago Blackhawks, to the game of hockey, and to all of Chicago. He left an imprint that will forever be etched in the hearts of fans – past, present and future. Stan made everyone he touched a better person,” Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz said in a statement. “My wife Marilyn and I, joined by the entire Wirtz family, extend our prayers and thoughts to Jill and the Mikita family. ‘Stosh’ will be deeply missed, but never, ever forgotten.”

Blackhawks President & CEO John McDonough added, “Stan Mikita will be always remembered as a champion, an innovator and a master of the game. He embodied the Chicago Blackhawks. His excellence is illustrated by the team records he still holds today. His passion for the game was proved by the longevity of his playing career. The impact he had on the franchise is proved by fact that Blackhawks fans still wear his jersey to the United Center. On behalf of the Chicago Blackhawks organization and our fans, we express our deepest condolences to the Mikita family and all who mourn Stan’s passing.”

Stan Mikita Cause Of Death: Not Available

An official cause of death for Mikita has not been confirmed. However, the Blackhawks legend was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, a disease which impacts memory, movement, behavior, and mood, in 2015.

“With great sorrow, the Mikita family announces that Stan passed away on Tuesday August 7, 2018 at the age of 78,” his family said in a statement. “He was surrounded by his loving family whom he fiercely loved. Details of planned services will be released when they become available. We respectfully ask for privacy at this time.”

House of Cards season 6 has a premiere date. On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the show’s official Twitter account tweeted out a photo to announce when the final season of the Netflix hit show will be made available. Season 6 will be premiering in November, according to the photo which was captioned “The Final Season. November 2. #MyTurn.”

The House of Cards season 6 promo poster is similar to the image from the first season of the political drama, only this time we have Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood sitting as the new president of the United States. Wright replaced Kevin Spacey in the role after he was dismissed from Netflix following a sexual misconduct scandal in the midst of the #MeToo movement.

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” the streaming service said in a statement at the time the allegations came to light.

The final season of House of Cards will feature eight episodes with the hope of bringing “closure of the show for fans.” It will be interesting to see how well-written the final season is written after writers were left scrambling to write Wright in as the lead once production stopped.

“The poor [writers] have been sweating over their candles and pens. It’s been really, truly difficult, but what [producers] Media Rights Capital, Netflix and the writers have done is superb,” Michael Dobbs, author of the original House of Cards Novels, said in an interview with BBC Radio 4. “They have set some standards and they have come back with some fine, fresh new creative stuff.”

Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert are no strangers to collaborating with each other. The two have worked together before on tracks like “wokeuplikethis” and “Bankroll,” with Playboi Carti saying the two have “like 100” unreleased songs. Well, it looks like we got to hear one of those unreleased tracks with their collab “Big Bank” surfacing on YouTube Tuesday afternoon.

There is no indication whether the track will be featured on any upcoming projects from either rapper. Uzi does appear, however, to be preparing his next project which seems to be called “Eternal Atake” according to some teasers on social media.

The Temple University Twitter account tweeted that a shooting has been reported at 3500 Germantown Ave at the Health Sciences Center Campus. Those nearby have been asked to use caution and avoid the area. Police are currently responding to the scene.

There is no word on any suspects, victims, or fatalities at this time.

That is all the information available at this time. The university has yet to tweet another update.

The active shooting reports at Temple University the is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Temple University is a state-related research university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1884 by Baptist Minister Russell Conwell. In 1882, Conwell came to Pennsylvania to lead the Grace Baptist Church while he began tutoring working class citizens late at night to accommodate their work schedules.

These students, later dubbed “night owls”, were taught in the basement of Conwell’s Baptist Temple, hence the origin of the university’s name and mascot. By 1907, the institution revised its institutional status and was incorporated as a university.

As of 2017, more than 40,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students were enrolled at the school.

The Florida Atlantic University commencement ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7 has been canceled. The university sent out an alert on Tuesday afternoon informing students of the news, saying that the decision was made after law enforcement determined there was a “credible threat.”

The Student Union has also been evacuated.

Family members of those who were set to receive diplomas were sitting in the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium waiting for the ceremony to begin when they were told to evacuate.

“Today’s 5 p.m. commencement ceremony is canceled. The Student Union is being evacuated due to what law enforcement considers a credible threat,” a tweet from the university said. “The investigation of FAU’s Student Union continues. Updates will follow as information is available.”

“The safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our top priority. We understand how disappointed our students must be that today’s final commencement ceremony was canceled. We will try to ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve,” FAU President John Kelly said in a statement.

According to local NBC affiliate WPTV, a Florida Atlantic spokesperson said that “a note threatening to shoot the graduation was found in a bathroom right before the ceremony was to begin.” Andrew Ruiz of WPTV shared video from the ceremony that showed students in their caps and gowns evacuating the area.

FAU spokesman Joshua Glanzer added that the university will reschedule the ceremony. There is no plan for when the ceremony will resume, but it is unlikely to happen today.

Boca Raton Police has said, “Please refer all inquiries to Florida Atlantic.” The FAU Police Department has yet to comment on the situation.

The season premiere of HBO’s hit show Hard Knocks airs Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Ross Nesbitt should be an inspiration to us all. The 16-year-old was involved in a serious ski accident that left him in a coma for nearly a month. As a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident, doctors had given him just a one percent chance at making a full recovery. Nesbitt has since defied the odds and has come back stronger than ever as he continues to excel and blow away expectations.

Nesbitt had to learn to walk, talk, and eat again, but after he returned to Williamwood High School in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, Scotland, he took his National 5 exams and blew everyone away with his scores.

When his grades came in, Nesbitt received seven As and a B.

“I was working when he got his text but I believe he jumped out of his skin and was so pleased. We’re just absolutely ecstatic with his results. It was really touch and go at times, we didn’t know whether we were going to get our boy back but it didn’t take very long before there were signs that Ross was improving,” his mother Wilma said, via BBC.

As for Ross, despite the accident, he has not stopped skiing.

“I was heading down to the lift and decided to take a shortcut off the track of the slope and hit a lot of snow and flew forward and banged my head on a fence post. “I had to relearn how to walk and talk and do basic things again.

“I knew when I went back to school they weren’t going to make me do the S3 exams, so I didn’t have that pressure on me. The school were really helpful… I’m still skiing, the accident was never going to put me off.”

Let this go to show that the odds are never too great and nothing is impossible if you put your mind too it.

Greg Hardy competed in his second professional mixed martial arts bout at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 16, facing off against Tebaris Gordon in the main event of the night. In his first appearance on the UFC Fight Pass show, Hardy scored an impressive first-round knockout against fellow former NFL player Austen Lane. This time, the former Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys defensive end needed even less time to get the job done with the same result.

Once again, Hardy scored a first-round knockout win.

The difference? This time Hardy came out guns-blazing and needed just 17 seconds to improve his pro record to 2-0. Gordon never stood a chance, immediately covering up after Hardy came out aggressive and pushing the pace with a wild flurry.

Gordon eventually collapsed to the mat, and Hardy finished the job with some vicious ground-and-pound.

And as you would expect, Hardy was hyped after his big win.

Hardy signed a developmental contract with the UFC following his first win on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. It will be interesting to see what the promotion has in store for the former NFL star the next time he enters the cage.

It goes without saying (at least it should) that SPOILERS WILL FOLLOW:

As we all now know, the Avengers are in quite a rough shape at the moment given that Thanos snapped half of their squad into oblivion, meaning they’re desperate for an ace in the hole. And that ace — Captain Marvel — may have been hinted at longgg before Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury pages her in the post-credit scene.

Now that Avengers: Infinity War is out on home release, fans are starting to pick up on a ton of new details. Among them is this easily missed Captain Marvel Easter egg, hinting at Carol Danvers’ role before her more obvious moment in the post-credits scene.

Over the past few days, several people have noticed that Cull Obsidian—aka Black Dwarf, a member of Thanos‘ Black Order—seems to be wearing a piece of Captain Marvel’s costume. You can see a red, blue and gold piece of fabric hanging from his belt, possibly as a trophy from a previous battle.

This all suggests that Captain Marvel has already clashed with Thanos and the Black Order, which makes sense given the timeline.

And for a little additional context, here’s the plot of Captain Marvel:

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes after the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.

So, given that Captain Marvel is set earlier in the MCU timeline AND that it involves an “intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds”, I’m essentially all in on this Easter Egg theory.

Easter eggs, post-credit scenes, and world-building is what Marvel does so well, so tossing this subtle nod to Captain Marvel in Infinity War seems like a no-brainer to me.

Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson in the titular role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel,  Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn in a still unnamed role, is due in theaters on March 8, 2019. It is the first film in Marvel’s 2019 slate, followed by Avengers 4 in May 2019 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.

Lauren Cutshaw, 32, has been identified as the South Carolina woman who allegedly said she was a “very clean, thoroughbred, white girl,” while being arrested by Bluffton police.

Cutshaw was pulled over in Bluffton, South Carolina, after she was seen blowing through a stop sign at more than 30 miles an hour over the speed limit on Saturday, August 4.

While officers were investigating Cutshaw — in addition to saying that she was a “very clean, thoroughbred, white girl” — she allegedly said that she should not be arrested for the following reasons, via The Island Packet:

– she was a sorority girl

– she was a cheerleader

– she’s had perfect grades her whole life

– her partner is a cop

– she graduated from a “high accredited university”

– she was in the National Honors Society.

Regardless, Cutshaw was arrested and booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The report said the woman’s eyes were bloodshot and glossy, she was slurring her words, and there was a smell of alcohol coming from the car. She told officers she had only had two glasses of wine, but when officers asked how much she filled the glasses, she responded, “I mean I was celebrating my birthday,” the report said.

The woman failed sobriety tests and had a .18 percent blood alcohol level, according to a breathalyzer test, the report said. She told officers, “I’m a white, clean girl,” and when they asked what they had to do with anything she said, “You’re a cop, you should know what that means,” the report said.

“Making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication,” the officer wrote in the report.

According to her LinkedIn, Cutshaw has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Louisiana State University.

She was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, disregarding a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

Good. This is what the idiots who do these viral videos — especially on main roads during nighttime — deserve.

First of all, not only are these people about two weeks too late to the party, but the execution is just miserable. Look how wide that road is: that’s not a quiet neighborhood road, that’s a busy main road. Not only are those high traffic areas, but they’re also breeding grounds for suburban cops (trust me, I was nabbed by plenty of those guys in my day).

In all seriousness, short of trying to ‘Keke, Do You Love Me?’ their ass the highway, this literally looks like the worst spot imaginable to try and pull this off. Millenials, man.

And could you imagine how dumb this person must feel? One second you’re giggling with the hopes that at least 100 people like your Insta video and the next you’re trying to figure out how many points a reckless driving charge is going to add to your license. Not to mention the monetary fines that come with these types of charges.

Last night one of the in-car-cameras in our patrol vehicles captured this dangerous incident. Fortunately, no one was injured. We have all seen the viral videos associated with the “Kiki challenge” and a number of them have involved the person in the roadway being injured or the driverless vehicle causing a collision. Please let common sense prevail!

Be aware that it is illegal for pedestrians to be in the roadway and for drivers to allow such activity. Participating in these type of dangerous activities can lead to tickets, fines, physical arrest and in worst case scenarios great bodily harm.

There are already plenty of distractions out there, don’t create another one.

2018-2019 Summary

After a successful 2017 campaign, in part thanks to all-world running back Saquon Barkley, the Nittany Lions will look to build off their momentum and make a playoff push in 2018. The loss of Barkley hurts, but head coach James Franklin has done a brilliant recruiting job, and his team will be loaded yet again in 2018. Between star quarterback Trace McSorley, who will be one of the front-runners for the Heisman award, plus one of the best defenses in the country, Penn State will have a legitimate shot at a national championship. In the secondary, watch out for true sophomore Lamont Wade to make a significant impact this season.

After being assigned only to special teams duties during his freshman season, the explosive 5’9 cornerback will likely be the starting slot corner where his quickness and power will be a nightmare for all opposing wide receivers. The Big Ten always provides some challenges as one of the toughest conferences in the country, but if Franklin’s group can win at least one out of the two matchups with Michigan and Ohio State, his team should cruise to an 11-1 record plus a playoff birth.

New Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry was one of the stars of the season premiere of the HBO hit show Hard Knocks. Landry, who was signed by Cleveland during the NFL free agency period, wasted no time emerging as a leader in the wide receiver room and delivered a passionate speech on the opening episode. Landry was calling out his teammates and preaching the importance of toughness and fighting through pain to perform.

Landry delivered a profanity-laced speech that immediately went viral on social media.

“If you’re not hurt, like if your hamstring ain’t falling off the f****** bone, your leg ain’t broke, you should be f****** practicing,” Landry said, as transcribed by Ohio.com. “Like straight up. Like that s*** is weakness, and that s*** is contagious as f***. And that s*** ain’t going to be in this room, bro. That s*** has been here in the past, and that’s why the past has been like it is.

“Ain’t nobody going to get better by being on the f****** sideline if you ain’t f****** hurt. If you’re not f****** hurt, you’ve got to f****** practice. … I’m hurt and I’m tired just like every f****** body in this m*****f******. but I ain’t taken no m*****f****** days off because I can’t be f****** great that way. That’s got to be the f****** attitude and the mentality all the f****** time. All that weak s*** don’t f****** live here no more. That s*** don’t exist. It’s contagious.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be adding some new characters to the game for the first time. During Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, Aug. 8, it was announced that Donkey Kong villain King K. Rool will be added to the game as a playable character along with Castlevania hero Simon Belmont and his echo fighter, Richtor.

The news generated plenty of excitement from fans of the Super Smash Bros. series, taking over four of the top ten trends in the United States on Twitter.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also feature new game modes like Squad Strike battle mode, Tourney mode, and Smashdown mode.

The Squad Strike battle mode is a 5-on-5 or 3-on-3 elimination-style battle, where each player uses five (or three!) consecutive fighters in a battle to decided the winner. But multiple players can also take turns.

Tourney mode will allow players to input up to 32 participants and generate a tournament bracket, perfect for large Smash gatherings.

Smashdown mode makes the selected characters from the previous battle unavailable, so players must chose a new fighter for the next round. Versatile players who play many different characters will have a chance to excel.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be heading to Nintendo Switch on Dec. 7. The game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive and will be the fifth edition of the popular fighting game. A full look at the roster of characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can be seen below.

Head coach P.J Fleck showed a lot of promise in year 1 at his job in Minnesota. With a roster that is severely lacking in the talent department, he put together an impressive 5-7 season. 2018 could see a very similar finish, but it could be a bizarre ride to get there. With an extremely weak out-of-conference schedule, the Golden Gophers will have a chance to make some early season noise, but the lack of talent could kick in, in a big way throughout the course of Big Ten play. The future may be bright for P.J Fleck, who is a proven winner, yet fans are going to have to patient with fleck, who is still in the rebuilding phase with the Gophers.

2018-19 Summary

With P.J Fleck entering year two with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, it appears he may just fall short of bowling season yet again. The defense returns most of its core players and should be the strength of the Golden Gophers, while significant questions are surrounding the offensive unit. A freshman QB along with a thin supporting cast is a recipe for disaster. Fortunately for Fleck and the Minnesota fan base, 2018 is going to present a time where fans will be overly optimistic. They can quickly start the season 4-0, and will likely be the favorite in all four of those games. Fresno State and the Maryland games are adamant to pick, but we give Fleck the benefit of the doubt and figure his defense will make final stops in those games. Here’s where the roller coaster effect will come into play, as they would be lucky to win just one game in Big Ten play. With this crazy, but expectable scenario taking place, the Golden Gophers would finish with another 5-7 record for the second straight year, leaving them just outside of bowling season.
