When does the 2018 college football preseason AP Top 25 poll get released? We are just weeks away from the start of the season and fans are eager to get their hands on the first rankings of the season. Earlier this month, the Amway Coaches Poll dropped with the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide sitting at No. 1, but that poll bears no influence in the College Football Playoff rankings. That’s why the release of the AP Top 25 poll is the most important of the preseason, with our first look at how things could play out throughout the year.

This year, the AP Top 25 preseason poll will drop at 12:00 p.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 20.

The preseason AP All-American Team will be released the following day.

Who will be ranked No. 1 when the preseason poll drops? Don’t expect much to change from last season’s year-end poll with Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide sitting in the top spot.

The 2018 college football schedule officially kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 25 with four games on the schedule — Duquesne vs. UMass, Prairie View vs. Rice, Hawaii vs. Colorado State, and Wyoming vs. New Mexico State. The action ramps up the following weekend, with several marquee matchups set to take place in primetime.

College Football Bowl Schedule 2018-19: Full List Of Games

The field for the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix has been set. On Monday, Aug. 6, Bellator MMA announced the full field for its welterweight tournament which includes a field of UFC veterans and former Bellator champions. Current 170-pound titleholder Rory MacDonald is also in the field and will be making an official title defense every time he steps into the cage.

MacDonald is matched up against fellow UFC veteran Jon Fitch in the opening round. The winner of that bout will advance with the belt to take on the winner of a Neiman Gracie and former Penn State wrestling standout Ed Ruth; both fighters are currently undefeated.

On the opposite side of the bracket, former Bellator champions Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov will do battle, while the second matchup is between English rivals Paul Daley and Michael “Venom” Page. The two men have been calling for a bout with each other for months, and they will finally get the opportunity to do battle in the cage with a spot in the tournament semifinals on the line.

Lorenz Larkin vs. Yaroslav Amosov will serve as the alternate bout.

The tournament will officially kick off on Sept. 29 at Bellator 206 when Koreshkov and Lima go head-to-head.

Evan Kitzmiller has been identified as the 16-year-old boy who died on Sunday, August 5, after he was found unresponsive at the Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park, Chicago. Kitzmiller was found in the 300 block of East Randolph Street just before 8 p.m. and was pronounced dead an hour later.

According to various reports, Kitzmiller was taken by a private ambulance provider to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 5 around 7:50 p.m. local time, where he was pronounced dead nearly an hour later.

At this time, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office hasn’t ruled on a cause of death. Authorities have launched an investigation into Kitzmiller’s death.

Melissa Kitzmiller — Evan’s mother — said she believes that her son, who attended all four days of the festival, had a seizure and that his heart stopped.

The Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication released the following statement:

“The safety and security of festival attendees is our top priority. We are saddened to learn that an individual transported from the event in critical condition last night due to a medical emergency has since passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. The circumstances are under investigation and we have no further details at this time.”

In addition, Lollapalooza also released the following statement:

“We are saddened to learn of the death of an individual who attended Lollapalooza on Sunday. The individual’s family and loved ones are in our thoughts during this difficult time. We have no further information at this time.”

Kitzmiller — an honor roll student and three-sport athlete — was set to be a junior at Mundelein High School this fall.

In total, 119 of the more than 300,000 concert-goers were taken to local area hospitals during the four-day music festival, many due to heat-related illness. In addition, seven people were arrested.

The Scripps-Howard Foundation, which serves as the philanthropic arm of media giant E.W. Scripps Company, will help fund the centers, which will be named after Roy W. Howard, who served as the former chairman of the corporation.

According to AZ Central, Scripps-Howard Foundation President and CEO Liz Carter said that, while journalism had always been important to the organization, recent controversy over “fake news” being reported in the media spurred the recent move into investigative journalism in the following statement:

“If we can help make sure great journalism carries on and survives all of these changes and comes out stronger than ever — that’s exactly what we want to do.”

The centerpiece of the programs will be a new master’s degree in investigative journalism

One focal point of the new program will be a new master’s degree in investigative journalism offered by Arizona State University, which will make the school the first in the country to offer such a degree. While involved in the program, students will be a part of a working newsroom and produce investigative journalism with national impact. The school will also start a national search for an executive editor imminently and also plans to hire at least two other faculty members to support the program, with the first cohort at the school’s Howard Center for Investigative Journalism will start in fall 2019.

On Twitter, Anne Ryman, a senior reporter at The Arizona Republic and AZ Central, also highlighted the degree being the first of its kind:

“Arizona State University to offer master’s degree in investigative journalism, the first university in the country to offer such a degree”

For their part, Lucy Dalglish, dean of University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, issued the following statement concerning the programs:

“Today’s newsrooms need help. They need this kind of assistance and this will also provide them with the next generation of investigative reporters.”

The foundation will provide $1 million per year for three years to each institution. According to Christopher Callahan, dean of the ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, this has been seen as the largest single investment in investigative journalism at the university level, who also added the following statement:

“I would argue that investigative journalism has always been an incredibly important part of our country and part of our democracy … but it’s more important now than ever before.”

“It’s going to first create this whole new generation of great investigative journalists (while) at the same time producing great investigative journalism for the whole nation.”

Pop star Pink has been hospitalized twice in the past two days, according to reports. That has led to the cancellation of a concert in Sydney, Australia scheduled for Aug. 6. Pink was first admitted to the hospital on Sunday, Aug. 5 for dehydration. The following day, Monday, Aug. 6, she was readmitted to the hospital and diagnosed with a gastric virus, according to a report from Hollywood Life.

“On medical advice P!nk’s performance scheduled for this evening (August 6) at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena has been postponed,” Live Nation said in a statement. “Pink was admitted to Hospital in Sydney on Sunday night, suffering from dehydration. She was treated and discharged. She was readmitted to hospital today and diagnosed with a gastric virus. On medical advice Pink will remain in hospital overnight, continuing her treatment and recovery. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

A few days ago, prior to her back-to-back visits to the hospital, Pink issued a lengthy statement on Instagram detailing why she canceled a previous date amid criticism.

Brian France, the Chairman and CEO NASCAR, was arrested on Sunday, August 5, for driving while intoxicated and for possession of oxycodone in the Hamptons, New York.

According to reports, France, driving a 2017 Lexus, was stopped by police after driving through a stop sign in Sag Harbor Village around 7:30 p.m. local time. TMZ reports that when stopped by police officers, France, 56, mentioned his relationship with President Donald Trump and other famous faces.

France, the grandson of NASCAR founder William H.G. France, was in possession of oxycodone at the time of his arrest. France reportedly failed a field sobriety test and his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

“On August 05, 2018 at 7:30 p.m., the Sag Harbor Village Police Department Arrested Brian Z. France for aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.

Mr. France was observed operating a 2017 Lexus northbound on Main Street failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign. Upon traffic stop, it was determined that Mr. France was operating said vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Upon search of his person, due to a lawful arrest, Mr. France was in possession of oxycodone pills.

Mr. France was arrested and processed and held overnight for arraignment in the morning. Mr. France was arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on 08/06/2018 at 9:30 a.m. where he was released on his own recognizance.

NASCAR released the following statement about France’s arrest:

“We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are in the process of gathering information. We take this as a serious matter and will issue a statement after we have all of the facts.”

ESPN points out that under NASCAR’s current substance abuse policy, France could be suspended and required to go through a recovery program, or he could be subjected to drug testing.

The UNC football program received some bad news on Monday, with 13 Tar Heels players receiving suspensions due to a violation of NCAA rules. On Monday, UNC self-reported a secondary NCAA violation which included the sale of team-issued shoes. The Tar Heels are one of the few universities to have an apparel deal with the Jordan Brand.

Offensive lineman Brian Anderson, defensive end Malik Carney, wide receiver Beau Corrales, defensive end Tomon Fox, defensive end Tyrone Hopper, offensive lineman Quiron Johnson, linebacker Malik Robinson, quarterback Chazz Surratt and offensive lineman Jordan Tucker will each miss out on four games to start the 2018 college football season.

Defensive backs Greg Ross and Tre Shaw will miss two games, while quarterback Jack Davidson and offensive lineman Jonah Melton will miss one.

“I am certainly upset by our players’ actions and how their choices reflect on them, our program and the University,” head coach Larry Fedora said in a statement. “These young men knew the rules and are being held responsible for the poor choices they have made. Accountability is an important core principle in this program. We will learn from this and aim to do better in the future.”

The shoes were allegedly sold to a local shoe business. The university attempted to get the shoes back in their possession, but nine pairs were still unaccounted for by the equipment staff.

“We are disappointed,” director of athletics Bubba Cunningham said. “Chancellor Folt, Coach Fedora and I have high expectations of all of our students, coaches and staff, and we expect everyone to embrace and abide by all team and NCAA rules. We always will strive to get better.”

The game of baseball is America’s pastime and it is one of the most popular sports in the world. 10. Safeco Field: Seattle Mariners

Although this park has only been open for about 18 years, it’s one of the most picturesque scenes in all of baseball. The retractable roof doesn’t give you a headache and you can see Centurylink Field in the distance. With the Mariners making a comeback after being cellar dwellers for a number of years, it’s a good time to go and check out a beautiful field in the Pacific Northwest.

9. Comerica Park: Detroit Tigers

You may be asking how could anything in Detroit be nice. Well, let me explain. Comerica Park is unique in its own way. The seats are at street level and it feels like the park itself is underground due to its configuration. The field shows baseball from a completely different perspective and it provides a clear view of the Detroit skyline in the outfield. It’s also just a short walk from Ford Field and Little Caesars Arena.

8. Dodger Stadium: Los Angeles Dodgers

There is no mistaking that this park belongs in Los Angeles. Some of the biggest moments in baseball history have happened in Dodger Stadium and one of the greatest voices in the game sat in the press box for decades. The spotlight is on you when you come into the shadows of Hollywood and it just adds even more excitement to the game. The Dodgers are a great team to watch and the city of Los Angeles is beautiful as well.

7. Kaufman Stadium: Kansas City Royals

Kaufman Stadium has stood the test of time for stadiums built in the 1970’s. Some of them would be beaten to a bloody pulp or torn down at this point but this one has remained beautiful. The unique crown scoreboard makes Kaufman Stadium one of the most recognizable parks in all of baseball. Regardless of the Royals perform during a season, making the trip to Kansas City will be well worth it. I mean seriously, baseball and Kansas City barbeque. What could be better?

6. Yankee Stadium

The ‘New” Yankee Stadium isn’t quite as iconic as the “Old” Yankee Stadium but it is still something you need to see. Yankee Stadium is a living museum with Monument Park and number of other famous events that are depicted throughout the park. You get to see an iconic team take the field every time you go and not to mention it hosts NYCFC’s home matches and the Pinstripe Bowl every December.

5. AT&T Park: San Francisco Giants

The iconic Coca-Cola bottle in left field, the tall brick wall in right field, McCovey Cove in right field with boaters trying to catch a home run, and the beautiful city of San Francisco just makes AT&T Park one of the most beautiful and scenic ballparks in all of baseball. The Bay Area is a perfect setting for baseball and every time I see the Giants on TV at home, it just looks like an absolutely perfect day or night. God bless California.

4. Oriole Park At Camden Yards: Baltimore Orioles

Tucked inside Baltimore, Camden Yards has an extremely cozy feel to it. Yes, the Orioles are absolutely atrocious but there is no reason why you shouldn’t go see a game at this beautiful park. Away teams typically invade Camden Yards because of extremely affordable ticket prices and as an excuse to watch their team play in a historic venue. It is truly one of the best stadiums in all of baseball.

3. PNC Park: Pittsburgh Pirates

The Yinzers love their Buccos and their stadium is absolutely beautiful. On the banks of the Alleghany River, PNC Park has one of the best views in the game. The Pittsburgh skyline is alive and well in the outfield and there is a sense of excitement for what’s to come after the addition of Chris Archer. PNC Park could host a playoff game in the near future and the black and gold faithful will be ready to invade the beautiful park with flying colors.

2. Fenway Park: Boston Red Sox

Boston is probably my favorite city that isn’t New York and that may come as a surprise. Fenway Park is one of the most well-known and historic parks in the world Constructed in 1912, the iconic venue has become a living cathedral for baseball and its features make it stand out even more. The Green Monster, The Pesky Pole, Lansdowne Street, and just the old school feel makes Fenway Park one of a kind.

1. Wrigley Field: Chicago Cubs

Over 100 years later and this beauty is still standing tall. Wrigley Field should be in at least the top two of every baseball fan’s ballpark bucket list without any sort of discussion. The organ music, the ivy, celebrities singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and just the gameday atmosphere at Wrigley Field is second to none. Regardless of whether the Cubs are good or bad, a game at Wrigley will never disappoint.

This past Sunday, at least five people were reported dead after an airplane crashed at a CVS parking lot in Orange County, California. As previously reported, police confirmed that the five who lost their lives were passengers on the plane and people on the ground were not believed to have been hurt during the incident. The following Monday, officials released information concerning the identities of the five victims who lost their lives.

Navid Hakimi

According to ABC 7, one of the victims was identified as Navid Hakimi, who was 32 at their death.

Scott Shepherd

According to ABC 7, one of the victims was identified as Scott Shepherd, who was 53 at their death. Officials confirmed that Shepherd was the pilot of the twin-engine Cessna when it went down.

Lara Shepherd

According to ABC 7, one of the victims was identified as Lara Shepherd, who was 42 at their death. According to CBS Los Angeles, Scott and Lara were husband and wife.

Floria Hakimi

According to ABC 7, one of the victims was identified as Floria Hakimi, who was 62 at their death. According to CBS Los Angeles, Floria was the mother of Navid Hakimi, another victim who lost their life in the crash.

Nasim Ghanadan

According to ABC 7, one of the victims was identified as Nasim Ghanadan, who was 29 at their death.

What do we know so far?

According to ABC 7, there were no survivors on the plane. As mentioned above, it is believed that nobody on the ground near the plane during the time it crashed was injured during the incident.

According to CBS Los Angeles, Floria Hakimi, Nasim Ghanadan and Lara Shepherd was part of Bay Area real estate consulting firm Pacific Union, which issued the following statement in light of the news:

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. Our entire Pacific Union family is mourning the loss of our colleagues, family and friends. We have suffered a tragic loss in Danville.”

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito also issued the following statement:

“I don’t know anything about what this pilot did, or what he was thinking, but it could have been much more tragic.”

“This was a Sunday afternoon and we have people shopping, so the fact that we have no injuries on the ground is a miracle in itself.”

According to ABC 7, One witness, identified as Alex Perkins, issued the following statement:

“I had seen the plane coming around and the first thought was, ‘Why is this plane so low? It’s way too low.'”

“It was coming around, banked left and then just dropped.”

At this time, the crash is believed to be under investigation.

GOLDBERG! Shaun Weiss, the actor who played goalie Goldberg in “The Mighty Ducks” series, was arrested over the weekend in Northern California for public intoxication. TMZ released the mugshot of the former child star and it is very troubling. Weiss is just 38-years-old, but when you look at his mugshot, he looks well beyond his years and is almost unrecognizable.

From TMZ:

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … the 38-year-old was busted for public intoxication Saturday around 1 AM in Oroville, CA, about an hour north of Sacramento. We’re told cops cut him a break after he spent a few hours in the drunk tank — he was released and not cited.

This is not the first time that Weiss has been in trouble with the law in recent years.

Last summer, Weiss was arrested for petty theft after he stole $151 worth of merchandise from an electronics store. He was sentenced to 150 days in jail, but only served 12 days due to overcrowding. Just five days after his release, Weiss was arrested again for possession of meth. Weiss was arrested after police in Burbank, Calif. received a 911 call about a suspicious person stumbling around yards in a neighborhood near the Warner Bros. studio lot. When cops responded, Weiss was arrested at 2:30 p.m. local time for possession of a controlled substance. There was no word on how much meth Weiss had on him at the time.

Kaitlyn Herman was one of the cast members on season 20 of the CBS reality series Big Brother. The 24-year-old life coach from Encino, Calif. was one of the most entertaining houseguests throughout the opening weeks of the show, keeping everyone on their toes with some non-stop drama. Ultimately, everything caught up to her when she became the target of the Level 6 alliance and was shown the door.

Kaitlyn did the dirty work for Level 6 in Week 2, initially nominating Scottie and Winston before backdooring Swaggy C, the ring leader of the opposite side of the house. Two weeks later, Kaitlyn was nominated and voted out of the house by a vote of 9-1.

She had an opportunity to earn her way back into the house, but failed to complete the competition and was officially evicted.

Better Call Saul, the epic prequel to Breaking Bad, returns tonight for its season 4 premiere! This season is sure to be the most intense yet, as they continue to delve deeper into how Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman. Like the previous seasons, Season 4 will consist of 10 episodes.

Both series creator Vince Gilligan and series star Bob Odenkirk have indicated that season 4 will be “darker”. Given the ending of season 3 — SPOILER ALERT: Saul’s brother Chuck “kills himself” — that new dark town has definitely already been established.

As for the episode, simply titled “Smoke”, the synopsis is as follows:

Jimmy struggles to cope with Chuck’s tragic death; Mike ponders his role at Madrigal; Howard makes a startling confession.

While nothing is confirmed, it’s been heavily hinted at that Saul may cross paths with one of the main Breaking Bad characters this season, possibly Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman.

'Better Call Saul' Season 4: What We Know & What To Expect

Earlier this year, LeBron James was told to “shut up and dribble” by FOX News host Laura Ingraham because the star basketball player discussed politics during a sitdown with ESPN’s Cari Champion. This month, LeBron was again a target for discussing politics, this time directly having his intelligence questioned by president Donald Trump following an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon to discuss the opening of his new “I Promise” school in Akron, Ohio.

But LeBron is not backing down. In fact, he is taking Ingraham’s tagline and turning it into the name of a new docuseries for Showtime.

On Monday, Aug. 6, Showtime announced that LeBron will serve as the executive producer for a three-part docuseries on the network appropriately titled “Shut Up And Dribble.” The series will take “a powerful inside look at the changing role of athletes in our fraught cultural and political environment.”

The newest Los Angeles Laker is producing the series alongside Maverick Carter and Gotham Chopra, with a premiere expected in October.

“If being a star athlete is inherently a political experience, ‘Shut Up and Dribble’ tells that complex and dramatic story from the past to the present and from the inside out,” David Nevins, president and chief executive of Showtime Networks Inc. said in a statement.

“LeBron James is one of many competitors whose place in the spotlight has led not to silence but perspective, and he, Maverick Carter and Gotham Chopra have given us an important, insightful docuseries that should bring their fans and fellow citizens to a higher level of discourse, rather than the dismissal satirized in the title.”

The docuseries will begin with Ingraham’s comments to James and serve “as a prologue to the series as it chronicles the modern history of the NBA and its players, starting with the 1976 merger of the freewheeling ABA and the more conventional NBA of today.”

Bayleigh Dayton, Miss Missouri USA 2017, is a cast member on season 20 of the CBS hit reality series Big Brother. Dayton immediately aligned with the FOUTTE alliance and found herself in a showman with Chris “Swaggy C.” After Swaggy C was evicted from the house early in the season, Bayleigh found herself in power as the Head of Household. As Head of Household, she attempted to evict Brett from the Level 6 alliance, but things did not go according to plan.

Her pawn, Rachel, was evicted from the house and Bayleigh found herself on the block the following week after being backdoored by new Head of Household Angela.

Wayne Cheney, a 56-year-old pig farmer who lives in a trailer in Guernsey, Iowa, has refused to take a polygraph test after being questioned multiple times about the disappearance of 20-year-old college student Mollie Tibbetts.

Cheney has been questioned by authorities after a red shirt that is similar to Tibbett’s daycare center uniform was found in a field near his home. It is not clear if this exact shirt belonged to Mollie and Cheney has not been charged with any crimes. He lives approximately 10 miles from Brooklyn, Iowa. Tibbetts, 20, disappeared in Brooklyn on July 18 after going for a nighttime run.

When speaking to reporters on Monday, August 6, Cheney said “I have nothing to hide,” and explained that he’d previously spoken to agents for “well over an hour” and allowed them to search his residence and 70-acre farm. However, he refused to take a polygraph test, saying “I don’t need to” because “it’s stupid”.

Cheney has previously pleaded guilty in connection with two stalking cases ― one in Poweshiek County in 2009 and another in Marion County in 2014. In the 2014 incident, Cheney was charged with felony stalking after his ex-girlfriend showed police that he had called her four times in about 18 hours in violation of a no-contact order.

WHO-TV reports that one of those cases reportedly resulted in a protective order being filed against him.

Tibbetts disappeared while dog-sitting for her boyfriend and his brother on July 18 in her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa. Authorities have shared few details about their investigation, now in its third week, but social media chatter has given prominence to the FBI’s search of Cheney’s property and his repeated interactions with authorities.

Cheney said Monday evening that the FBI agent who stopped by earlier in the day said he probably would return to ask again about the polygraph. Cheney does not have an attorney, he said.

Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Richard Rahn said he could not speak about investigative details, including how many people the dozens of agents and deputies involved have questioned. But he said agents have checked hundreds of leads. Cheney’s property was searched July 25; photos of law enforcement at work spread quickly on social media.

Asked if he was surprised when authorities came to his door to question him about the case, Cheney, 54, responded: “Oh yeah.” He said investigators had searched his property and cellphone.

At the time of this writing, Cheney as not been officially named as a suspect. The Tibbetts family is offering a $260,000 reward for information on Mollie’s whereabouts.
