Pete Davidson Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Pete Davidson Worth?

0

As soon as Pete Davidson was hired to be a featured player on season 40 of Saturday Night Live in 2014, people took note. Somehow, a 20-year-old kid slipped by the gatekeepers of comedy and was sitting at the desk of Weekend Update talking about his life and physical appearance.

Since joining the cast, Davidson has gained a significant following and become a recognizable face. But the young comedian decidedly reached the height of his fame in May 2018 when the now 24-year-old was reported to have entered into a relationship with mega-celebrity Ariana Grande. The couple met when Grande was a musical guest on SNL.

Before this attention translates to new gigs, let’s take a look at how much Davidson has earned so far throughout his career.

Pete Davidson Net Worth As Of 2018: $500,000

Online sources estimate Davidson’s net worth to be approximately $500,000. For a comedian just entering his mid-twenties, this is no small feat.

Early Life (1993-2010)

Peter Davidson was born in Staten Island, New York on November 16, 1993, making him the first SNL cast member to be born in the ’90s. Davidson experienced a tragic and transformative loss at only seven years old when his father Scott, a fireman, died in service during the World Trade Center attacks in 2001. This had a profound impact on Davidson, who responded by misbehaving in school and even pulling out his hair. When he was 8, he began to wrestle with suicidal ideation.

2010-2014

Instagram Photo
After encouragement from his friends, Davidson tried stand-up for the first time at 16 in a bowling alley in Staten Island. He continued from there, explaining to the San Francisco Chronicle that “[he] just needed to be an attention whore for 12 minutes a day every day.”

At 17 or 18, Davidson was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, and one of the reasons for his weed habit it to deal with the pain. After graduating from Xaverian High School in 2011 he quickly dropped out of St. Francis College because he didn’t like dorm life.

Starting in 2013, the comedian kicked off his career on MTV, notably by showing up in four episodes of the reality comedy series Guy Code and six episodes of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out. Around the same time, his stand-up was aired on Comedy Central and he performed on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!

2014-Present

Davidson met high ranking SNL cast member Bill Hader when he nabbed a small part in the movie Trainwreck. When Hader mentioned him to producer Lorne Michaels, Davidson was given the opportunity to audition for the show.

Generally, Davidson does not shy away from private or ultra-uncomfortable topics in his comedy. This tendency has shaped his stint thus far at SNL, where he appears more as himself – the “resident young person” – giving candid opinions during Weekend Update than as a character in sketches (which he often jokes about).

Pete Davidson’s best character, and the one to whom he owes all his success is Pete Davidson: the lanky, racially ambiguous stoner. He is unmistakably masculine but has a distinctly modern vulnerability that gives his act an easy yet strong sort of intimacy.

So far, differences between his on-stage and off-stage personas are nonexistent. Davidson accomplishes this by being brutally honest about himself and his past: he finds empowerment through joking about his father’s death and other traumatic experiences. For many audiences, this is an unexpected shock.

Since being on SNL, Davidson has beefed up his resume. He was a roaster on the Comedy Central Roast of both Justin Beiber and Rob Lowe, he released a first comedy special Pete Davidson: SMD, and was named in Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Characteristically, Davidson does not profess perfection. Since entering the public eye, he has struggled with a borderline personality disorder and visited rehab. In March of 2017, Davidson revealed on Instagram that he was completely sober for the first time in 8 years (with the exception of marijuana, which he continues to use therapeutically and cannot perform without).

It is unsurprising that the honest and casual humor with which Davidson discusses being “crazy” is what keeps him worth watching. It is fitting that only a (suspiciously) short time before getting together with Ariana Grande, he had been in a serious 2-year relationship with Larry Davids daughter, Cazzie David. The comedians specific brand of effortless hip fits in perfectly with the modern pop culture of Supreme and Complex, a fact only aided by his self-confessional style. In many ways, Davidson is the more relatable comedian counterpart of Grande’s ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller. In Davidson, those in their late teens and twenties are able to see themselves, even if they have nothing in common with him on paper.

I had the opportunity to see Davidson perform live at my college in Fall 2016. He was more obviously high, yet no less composed than on television. Before getting off stage, he took some questions from the audience. One student asked, “Do you know where you are right now?”

Davidson spent a moment thinking it over and giggling before admitting “no”. Hundreds of college students erupted in laughter.

Top 10 Richest Rappers On Earth Right Now

Wealth has always been a classic subject for hip-hop tracks. The rap genre was born from the disenfranchisement felt by minorities living in poverty during the later half of the 20th century, so making braggadocios claims about escaping said poverty and living a lavish lifestyle is basically a musical victory lap. But in reality, there are relatively few rappers who deserve to make such declarations. For each artist who makes millions and reaches the masses, there are a thousand SoundCloud rappers who never extend beyond their circle of friends and listeners. But alternatively, those who do make it large in the industry can make absolute bank. Here’s a rundown of the top 10 richest hip-hop artists walking the planet today.

Birdman

Instagram Photo

He may be the rap industry’s most notorious scumbag, but Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams is still sitting on a $110 million nest egg. A co-founder of Cash Money records and the initial mentor to fellow rapper Lil Wayne, Birdman has made his millions through his own rap albums as well as openly exploiting those who work for him. His longstanding feuds with Lil Wayne, Drake and Nikki Minaj has only boosted his financial standings.

Snoop Dogg: Net Worth – $130 million

Instagram Photo

One of the realest OGs left, Snoop Dogg rolls pretty with approximately $130 million in the bank. After a nearly twenty-year career of making classic rap anthems, hopping from one record label to another and even converting to Rastafarianism at one point, Snoop is probably one of the most recognizable rappers in the world right now. In recent years, he’s branched out to other venues such as acting, reality show hosting and even took time out of his schedule to break the world record for the largest gin and juice ever made.

Ice Cube: Net Worth – $140 million

Instagram Photo

One of the first mainstream rappers and a member of the historic N.W.A. rap group, Ice Cube has accumulated somewhere around $140 million between his hip-hop subsidies, his clothing line, his self-promoted baseball league and, of course, his numerous film exploits. Cube was the creative mind behind the birth of mainstream rap, writing most of the landmark Straight Outta Compton album. He’s also known to work as a sports commentator and an architectural consultant in his free time.

Lil Wayne: Net Worth – $150 million

Instagram Photo

With about $150 million to his name, Lil Wayne is the fourth wealthiest rapper in the world currently. His standing may have been higher, but his befuddling beef with Birdman and Cash Money Records has cost him dearly since 2014. Even more unfortunately, it looks like Lil Wayne may still be thinking about retiring before he finally releases the long-awaited Tha Carter V.

Kanye West: Net Worth – $160 million

Instagram Photo

Recent unfortunate comments aside, it’s fair to say that Kanye West has become one of the most influential figures not just in hip-hop but in all of popular culture, and he has a net worth of $160 million to show for it. West was a noted and sought-after beat maker in the industry for years before mentor Jay-Z gave him the courage to pursue a legitimate rap career. Little did either of them know that West’s fragmented style, emphasis on the human voice and skewering lyricism would be the key to global stardom.

Eminem: Net Worth – $190 million

Instagram Photo

Eminem might not be a businessman and may be one of the most controversial rappers alive, but he’s the best selling rapper of all time and sold more albums domestically in the 2000s than any other artist in any genre at the time, leaving him with a healthy net worth of around $190 million. The reclusive Marshall Mathers has made cemented his place on rap’s metaphorical Mount Rushmore by combining the base and graphic subjects with deceptively clever lyrics and hypnotizing beats.

Master P: Net Worth – $250 million

Instagram Photo

Aside from rapping, Master P has made his $250 million from professional basketball, producing, acting and some surprisingly shrewd business maneuvers. Master P got his start from a $10,000 inheritance from his grandfather. Seeing the retail potential of the burgeoning rap movement, P bought a record store which he eventually evolved into No Limit Records, one of the most successful rap labels in the industry.

Dr. Dre: Net Worth – $770 million

Instagram Photo

An original member of the progenitor rap group N.W.A., Dr. Dre has always been known more for his producing. Still, he made seminal rap album The Chronic, helped hip-hop godfather Eazy-E find his voice and founded Aftermath Entertainment, responsible for discovering and producing the likes of Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Xzibit, and Eminem. Add to that his insanely lucrative Beats by Dre headset line and the good doctor walks away with a net worth of $770 million.

Diddy: Net Worth – $825 million

Instagram Photo

When he’s not busy making hip-hop tracks and trying to think of new stage names, Diddy a.k.a. P Diddy a.k.a. Puff Daddy a.k.a. Puff a.k.a. Love a.k.a. Sean Combs is usually designing clothes for his successful fashion line. Between making music, producing it, cameoing in films and the designer fashion industry, Diddy has accrued a net worth of $825 million, enough for him and his extended family to live in opulent luxury.

Jay-Z: Net Worth – $900 million

Instagram Photo

For the last several years, Jay-Z, Diddy, and Dr. Dre have been in a friendly competition to be the wealthiest rapper alive. Overtime, each of them has held the title, but Jay-Z is the current winner with a net worth of $900 million. Apart from making some of the most influential albums of all time and holding the record for most number one albums by a solo act, Jay-Z also owns and operates several business ventures, including his personal pet project: the Tidal streaming platform.

Gal Gabot is an Israeli actress best known for portraying Wonder Woman in the 2017 adaptation. She is also a wife and mother of two, a former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, and winner of the prestigious title of Miss Israel.

Gal Gadot’s Net Worth as of 2018: $8 Million

With projects stacking up, there’s no stopping Gadot in the future. Before we dive into where she’s going, let’s take a look at Gadot’s career and how she got to this point!

Early Years

Instagram Photo

Gadot was born on April 30, 1985, in Rosh Ha’Ayin, Israel. She and her husband have two daughters. Her family is Ashkenazi Jewish. Her father is a sixth-generation Israeli. Her maternal grandparents were born in Europe, and her maternal grandfather, who was from Czechoslovakia, survived Auschwitz. Her other ancestors lived in Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Austria, and Germany.

2000-2013

Instagram Photo

After serving two years in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Gadot went on to be named Miss Israel in 2004. She then was sent to represent her country at the 2004 Miss Universe.

In 2008, Gadot married her longtime boyfriend, Yaron Varsano, an Israel Businessman. Gadot and her husband own a hotel in the district of NeveTzedek in Tel Aviv.

Gal began modeling in the late 2000s and made her film debut in the fourth film of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast & Furious (2009), as Gisele. Her role was expanded in the sequels Fast Five (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013), in which her character was romantically linked to Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang). In the films, Gal performed her own stunts. She also appeared in the 2010 films Date Night (2010) and Knight and Day (2010).

2014-Present

Instagram Photo

Gal was cast as Wonder Woman in the superhero team-up film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and filming began in 2014 for a March 2016 release. Gadot received swordsmanship, Kung Fu kickboxing, Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in preparation for the role. As a result, her performance as the superhero, which is the first time for the character on film, was hailed as one of the best parts of the otherwise poorly-received film. The film is part of the DC Extended Universe, and Gadot plays the role again in the solo film Wonder Woman (2017), which was received very positively, and superhero team-up Justice League (2017).

She was only paid $300,000 for the role of Wonder Woman, but will likely earn millions in performance bonuses. This came as a shock when fellow DCEU star Henry Cavill was reportedly paid $14 million for his role as Superman. This led to significant scrutiny of the studio and gender bias threats, but going forward executives stated they will analyze that area of the business more closely.

D-Day Invasion: What Happened, Who Was Involved & Facts

Battle Of WWII

A Map of the June 6th, 1944 Normandy Invasion.

June 6th, 2018 marks the 74th anniversary of the famous invasion of Normandy, when, in the early hours of the morning, over 150,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of Nazi-occupied France in one of the largest naval assaults in history. Codenamed Operation Overlord, the day of the invasion colloquially became known as D-Day and is one of the most important milestones of World War II.

Preparing For The Invasion

Instagram Photo

The global war between the Allied Nations and Axis Powers had been waging for five years by 1944. Though it was initially a European conflict, America was drawn into the fray by a surprise attack by the Japanese on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the “date which will live in infamy,” the three primary Allied Nations, America, Britain and the Soviet Union, met regularly to discuss the best method to deal with Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany, the unofficial lynchpin of the Axis Powers. Britain, which had suffered heavy bombings, was generally in favor of sporadic air and coastal assaults to dissuade any further Nazi assaults. America was blunter and promoted an all-out ground assault from the west. The Soviet Union didn’t have a specific tactic in mind but was desperate for its allies to initiate a second front to relieve the pressure of Germany’s invasion of Russia.

Apart from their personal disagreements, these nations were under pressure from Hitler’s proposed ‘Atlantic Wall.’ Aware of a possible attack from across the English Channel, Hitler directed General Erwin ‘Desert Fox’ Rommel to establish a series of forts and battlements along the northern coasts of all Nazi-occupied territories, stretching from the northernmost tip of Scandinavia all the way to the Spain-France border. Though incomplete and its strength was overexaggerated in Nazi propaganda, the Atlantic Wall was still a formidable defense that was constantly getting stronger.

Finally, in early 1944, a plan was formulated by British, American and Canadian military forces: an amphibious invasion of France supplemented by aerial assaults and ground troops. American general and future president Dwight Eisenhower pointed out that the most support for the Atlantic Wall would be where it was still being built, so the resource-starved defenses at Normandy beach were chosen as the target. Eisenhower was subsequently appointed the commander of Operation Overlord, leaving all strategy up to him. In one of the most ingenious and complex military tactics in history, Eisenhower leaked to the Nazi’s that an invasion was forthcoming, but it’s intended target was Pas-de-Calais, far along up the coast from Normandy. To sell the ruse to any potential spies, Eisenhower directed hundreds of tanks, dozens of ships, and thousands of arms to be delivered to a nearby English base to sell a ‘Phantom Army.’ He even went so far as to declare prominent general George Patton the commander of the non-existent forces.

The Day Of The Invasion

Instagram Photo

Eisenhower had originally intended for the invasion to take place on June 5th but was delayed due to poor weather conditions. By the night of the 5th, however, the invasion was ready to begin. Under the cover of night, over 20,000 paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines at Normandy so that key bridges and fortifications could be secured beforehand and the Allied attack could be expedited if the invasion were successful. Infantry divisions which numbered around 160,000 troops sailed out of England before daybreak, making it the largest naval invasion in history. They landed in France around 6:30 in one of five designated sections of beaches along the selected 50 miles of coast, nicknamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. The first wave of troops was butchered by German fortifications, but the few survivors managed to establish footholds in all five beaches before the second and third waves could meet the same fate. Overhead, a massive armada of fighter planes created a no-fly zone over the beach to keep German bombers from interfering in the invasion.

Though none of the Allied’s main goals were achieved in the initial invasion, the Atlantic Wall was effectively broken and a secure landing point on continental Europe had been formed. Within a week, the five beaches were united to form a solid stretch of Allied-controlled territory. Once the infantry had established a base, over 50,000 tanks were able to roll onto the French beaches to provide armored support and push the Nazi defenses back further. The bridges and forts previously captured by the paratroopers let the new mobile divisions run rampant throughout northern France for weeks until the region of Normandy had been fully liberated and a western front could be created.

The Allied invasion was aided by the Nazi’s completed disarray. Though fighting from a superior position and with advanced equipment, the German Defenses at Normandy were overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Rommel was on leave at the time and the Nazi forces in the region suffered from confusion and indecision without their leader. Matters were made worse for them by Hitler’s absolute disbelief that such an attack was possible. He believed that the reports from Normandy were a ruse to distract him from the fake attack that was headed for Pas-de-Calais and refused to send reinforcements to his desperate soldiers. It was almost a month before he began taking the invasion seriously, one of his most debilitating mistakes in the war.

The Aftermath

Instagram Photo

D-Day was merely the first day of the Battle of Normandy which lasted into August 1944 and effectively ended with the liberation of Paris. Due to the chaotic nature of the battle, exact casualty numbers are difficult to estimate. The German dead number somewhere between 4,000 and 9,000, and, though only a little over 4,000 bodies of Allied soldiers were recovered, the most conservative estimate places Allied casualties at over 10,000 men. Their sacrifice was not in vain as D-Day is often credited as being a turning point in the war that firmly established the Allies’ victory over Hitler.

The invasion and the battles that followed are the subjects of many acclaimed movies. There are many memories, museums and military cemeteries in Normandy today, including the Normandy American Cemetery, the first American graveyard on foreign soil.

D-Day: Top 10 Must-Watch WWII Movies & Mini-Series In 2018

On June 6, 1944, 74 years ago today, the Allies invaded Nazi-occupied France, landing on the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history. There were around 156,000 Allied troops in Normandy, with 73,000 of them Americans. It is estimated that over 10,000 Allied troops died, while between 4,000 and 9,000 Nazi troops were killed.

While we salute the brave men and women who laid down their lives for our freedom, let’s take a seat and enjoy some of the most influential films and mini-series to have come from that historic event. Here is your top 10 must-watch list that captures the heart of our country and the strength of our resolve.

Band of Brothers (2001)

Official Synopsis:

This series, originally broadcast on HBO, tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Based on interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers’ journals and letters, this 10-part series chronicles the experiences of these young men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. Based on the book written by Stephen Ambrose.

The Longest Day (1962)

Official Synopsis:

In 1944, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower makes the momentous decision that the combined Allied invasion of Europe will take place on the 6th of June. The decision proves to be strategically wise: the German High Command, assuming the invasion will not take place during the current inclement weather, is caught unawares; Panzer divisions are awaiting the attack at Dover, the Luftwaffe is scattered, and Hitler himself has taken a sleeping pill and left orders that he is not to be disturbed. Allied sources alert the French Resistance, who cut telegraph wires and blow up ammunition trains. Dummy parachute figures are dropped to confuse the Germans. Airborne glider infantry are landed near the key site of the Orne River Bridge. Then, at dawn, the full Allied might is unleashed as 150,000 troops, backed up by 5,000 transport and fighter vessels, storm the three major Normandy beachheads of Juno, Omaha, and Utah. Although a division of paratroopers is slaughtered when they overshoot their mark, French commandos capture the seaside town of Oistreham and American Rangers successfully scale the supposedly-impregnable cliffs of Point-du-Hoc. It is at Omaha Beach that the assault falters; held back by a seemingly impregnable cement wall, the troops are unable to advance. But Brigadier General Cota rallies his men, urges Sergeant Fuller to place a dynamite charge, and blasts a clear path from the beach. With the coming of nightfall, the Allies are firmly entrenched on European soil.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Judge Who Sentenced Stanford Rapist Brock Turner To 6 Months Recalled (Essentially Fired)

Aaron Persky, the California judge who sentenced Stanford University rapist Brock Turner to just months in jail for the sexual assault of an unconscious woman, was recalled on Tuesday, June 5, making him the first California judge to be recalled in more than 85 years.

During this year’s primary election in California, almost 60% of voters said they wanted Persky out, with about 40% said he should stay in office. If the recall goes through, it will mark the first time since 1932 that California voters opted to recall a sitting judge.

Persky made national headlines in 2016 when he sentenced Turner to a mere six months in prison, despite the fact that Turner was convicted of three charges of felony sexual assaults. The charges –two for felony sexual assault and one for attempted rape– carried a potential sentence of 14 years in prison. At the time, Persky said that “a prison sentence would have a severe impact on [Turner].”

Turner was released from Santa Clara County jail on September 2, 2016, having served three months of his six-month sentence. In addition to his prison term, Brock was sentenced to three years probation and must remain a lawfully registered sex offender for the rest of his life. In the aftermath of the sentencing, Persky was accused of judicial bias in favor of male, white and class privilege.

The Hill reports that Assistant District Attorney Cindy Hendrickson is poised to win the election to serve out the four remaining years of Persky’s term.

Sports Gambling Has Officially Made It’s Way Out East

After decades of Las Vegas being the only haven for sports bettors to reside (on the books, at least), another state in our great union has decided to join in on the fun.

Following the recent historic U.S. Supreme Court decision to allow state’s to make their own gambling laws, Delaware became the first state to take advantage of the decision and legalize full-scale sports betting. Delaware Governor John Carney placed the first legal bet in the state, putting $10 on the Philadelphia Phillies against the Chicago Cubs at +200. The bet hit as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-1.

The bet comes after the May 14 Supreme Court ruling that  struck down a federal law that prevented states from legalizing sports gambling. The justices ruled that while Congress can ban sports betting itself, they cannot mandate what state Legislatures do or don’t pass.

According to gambling experts, the landmark Supreme Court decision is expected to have far-reaching effects, as some experts suggest that illegal betting in the United States is a $50 billion to $150 billion industry — but for the time-being, Delaware will be the only new state in the sports gambling business. Delaware officials predict an economic effect on their state as well, as they expect the launch to make a significant contribution to tourism in Delaware, estimating that 17 percent of visitors will participate in gambling.

Stu Feiner, a well-known professional gambler and internet personality, was also in attendance, placing $500 each on the Pirates, Reds, Orioles and Padres to win games Tuesday night. Only the Orioles bet was successful, as the Pirates, Reds, and Pirates all lost. Ironically, Feiner was wearing a shirt that said “I’ll Kill Your Bookmaker” when he placed the bets.

At this time, Delaware is the only new state in the sports gambling business. Nevada legalized sports gambling before the federal law was passed in 1992.

UFC women’s featherweight Megan Anderson is looking to show the world that she is one to watch out for in the mixed martial arts community. The former Invicta FC champion is finally set to make her promotional debut at UFC 225 on Saturday, June 9 against former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Anderson is returning to action following a lengthy lay-off that has been protected with secrecy.

“I’ll probably never tell anyone,” Anderson said in an interview with ESPN. “It definitely makes it challenging, because people are asking and I want to be careful about certain things. At the end of the day, I have a right to my privacy. If people don’t want to respect that, I guess I don’t really want them following me anyway.

“If I want to have some privacy on this, I’m entitled to that. I don’t need to share every part of my life.”

Anderson has also admitted to being a bit nervous about the upcoming bout.

“We always kind of thought it was going to be Cris when we came back,” Anderson said. “It was definitely a shock when they wanted to go in a different direction. My management called and really dragged it out. He said, ‘You’re going to be fighting June 9, in Chicago … ‘ I was like, ‘Oh my God, get to the name.’

“I was pretty cool talking to my manager, when he said ‘Holly Holm.’ But when I got off the phone, I was so excited I made myself nauseous.”

UFC 225 — which takes place at United Center in Chicago — is headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. In the co-main event, Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington square off for the interim welterweight crown.

Fellas, We Can Confirm the Perfect Girl Does Exist

$

Every so often, a woman pops on the internet that immediately becomes everyone’s wifey. Whether it be a chick sitting behind home plate at a baseball game or an Instagram model that was spotted with Drake at Nobu (that’s a Los Angeles reference for you peasants), the internet has been teased over and over with the “perfect girl”. Alas, after 25 years of internetting, I think we’ve found her.

Last night, the San Diego Padres uploaded a video to their Instagram of a gorgeous 20-something not only caught a home run in her beer, but she then proceeded to chug TF out of said beer. But it’s more than just a simple beer chug: it’s a statement about who this woman is as a person.

Let’s break it down point by point, shall we?

  1. Location: she’s at a baseball game on a weeknight with her girlfriends
  2. Drink of choice: she’s drinking beer, not a whine cooler or some bullshit.
  3. Spirit: she’s a good sport.
  4. Outgoing: she wasn’t shy in front of the cameras, she owned the moment.
  5. Badass: she chugged TF out of that beer.
  6. Hobbies: she’s clearly a sports fan.
  7. Looks: she is, objectively, attractive.

And since we’re talking baseball, I’ll make the obvious pun: whoever this girl is, she’s a total home run. And to whoever she is, my Twitter is @eric_italiano and my Instagram handle is @ericitaliano.

World Cup 2018: Teams You Should Root For Since U.S. Is Out

$

Despite America being a melting pot of identities, the citizens who bleed red, white and blue still aspired to see USMNT qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Of course, we know America isn’t the best team and it wasn’t really expected that we would win, but that’s beside the point.

For America, it wasn’t about winning or losing, but rather feeding the soccer franchise and igniting the spark of nationality. It was a matter of pride and representation. If you’re feeling confused about who to root for now that your go-to team is out, here are a few suggestions.

The Typicals

Brazil: Naturally, Brazil is the favorite to win the tournament. As always the team is expected to be a thrill to watch. They ooze talent with the likes of Neymar, Paulinho, and Fernandinho (to name but a few). So if you’re one of those people who want to be on the winning side, or is just in the mood to watch exceptional soccer, then these are your guys.

Germany

Instagram Photo

This team doesn’t mess around. Their style of play is elegant, captivating and intimidating which is why they have won four previous World Cup titles. For this tournament, Germany has a rather young team; however this new talent is just as good, if not better, than the vets. You can watch arguably one of the best goalies on this planet, Manuel Neuer and additionally look forward to striker Thomas Müller possibly breaking the record for most World Cup goals.

Argentina

Instagram Photo

Two words- Lionel Messi. He’s one of the top players the world has ever seen, and yet he’s never secured a World Cup title. Argentina came extremely close in 2014, but in the end, walked away empty- handed. The team almost didn’t even qualify for this year’s tournament. If it wasn’t for Messi’s hat trick against Ecuador, Argentina would have been welcomed aboard the same boat as the U.S. team.

Portugal:

Instagram Photo

Another two words- Cristiano Ronaldo, otherwise known as Messi’s arch nemesis. Did you see Ronaldo’s goal against Juventus? It was a breathtaking bicycle shot that left you feeling like a dog peeing on the floor out of excitement after their owner finally comes home after a long day. So if you’re looking for some exhilaration in your life, follow Portugal.

Mexico:

Instagram Photo

It’s our neighboring country, and if nothing else, their proximity to us should give you a reason to support them. Quite frankly anyway, the facts speak for themselves. El Tri already has twice as many viewers in America than that of the USMNT. Not to mention, if Mexico wins the cup, the CONCACAF could pride themselves on having its own World Cup victor. Break out the vuvuzelas.

The Underdogs

Iceland

Instagram Photo

The biggest underdog of them all, Iceland is weirdly included in this year’s World Cup. Props to the team though because they’re the smallest country to ever qualify for the tournament. The team has a lot of pride for their country, and play with heart. Yeah, maybe they won’t win, but at the same time Iceland is just happy to get an invitation to the party, and so what if they leave the party early? At least they made an appearance. Also, if you root for them, you can viking clap.

Panama

Instagram Photo

Just like Iceland, Panama is also a first-time qualifier. The country was so stoked about making it to the World Cup, that the day after the news was officially announced, the president declared the day a national holiday. Even if the nation doesn’t win, they definitely secured the title for most spirited.

England

Instagram Photo

If you watch the Premier League, I’m sure you’re acquainted with many of the players on the England team. In terms of winning, they’re as likely to do it as the U.S. was, but this team is a classic in the cup, and maybe they’ll surprise us all and take the title. Maybe. Besides, they speak the same language as Americans. Definitely a reason to support them… right?

Egypt

Instagram Photo

There is a lot of anticipation surrounding this team after Mohamed Salah’s incredible season. People are curious about how he’s going to perform in the tournament. The team overall has some serious skills and are sure to impress. Also, to tie in the American connection, Egypt’s coach is former U.S. coach Bob Bradley.

Belgium

Instagram Photo

Their talent includes Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, but most likely, Belgium isn’t going to win the tournament; however, the team is expected to showcase some really entertaining soccer. Remember the 2014 World Cup match between them and the U.S. team? If not, go back and watch some highlights, and then you’ll understand what I’m saying.

The 10 Best College Basketball Teams Of All Time

Best College Basketball Teams

College basketball has been an evolving sport ever since the game was created. From the termination of dunking to the added three-point line, the game has constantly been progressing. This, of course, is due to some of the games greatest talents dominating so much that the NCAA had no choice but to alter the rules. This top ten list considers factors such as the era in which the game was being played in, the stars and coaches of the championship teams, and in some cases the political influences that some of these teams and players achieved off the court.

10. 1995-1996 Kentucky Wildcats

Instagram Photo

Known as the “Untouchables” for their dominant performances in one of the most competitive eras of all college basketball, Rick Pitino’s team cruised to greatness with a phenomenal record of 34-2. Led by star players Antoine Walker and Tony Delk, the Wildcats won their NCAA tournament games by an average of 21 points. During the regular season, the Wildcats dropped one of their two losses to the Umass Minutemen, coached by the living legend John Calipari, and arguably the best player in the country at the time, Marcus Camby. The Wildcats avenged this loss in the final four by handing Camby and co. an 81-74 loss before defeating Syracuse 76-67 in the national final.

9. 1973-1974 NC State Wolfpack

Instagram Photo

The Wolfpack could not be ignored on this list, as they were the first team to stop UCLA’s incredible run of eight straight titles. Led by star players David Thompson and Tommy Burleson, along with legendary head coach Norm Sloan, the Wolfpack shocked the world and defeated Wooden and his Bruins with a final score of 80-77 in double overtime in the final four before stomping on Marquette in the championship game to finish the season with a 30-1 record. Their only loss that season came at UCLA during the regular season where UCLA beatdown the Wolfpack with a final score of 84-66. No one imagined that NC State could re-write the script when it counted.

8. 1956-1957 North Carolina Tar Heels

Instagram Photo

After leaving St. Johns in 1952, head coach Frank Mcguire came to Chapel Hill to rebuild this program and recreate the in-state rivalry with NC State. While focusing on recruiting players from his home state of New York, Mcguire built one of the most dominant cohesive teams to step foot on the hardwood. Led by senior Lennie Rosenbluth, ACC player of the year and his counterparts Tommy Kearns and Pete Brennan, first and second All-ACC team respectively, the Tar Heels finished the season with a perfect record of 32-0. To top that, they defeated Wilt Chamberlain, arguably the best player of all time, and the rest of his Kansas powerhouse in triple overtime 54-53, with the game going down as one of the best championships ever played. And to top that, Lennie Rosenbluth had fouled out of the game with one minute and 45 seconds still to go in regulation. Prevailing through that inked this teams’ mark in history forever.

7. 1966-1967 UCLA Bruins

Instagram Photo

In Lew Alcindor’s freshmen season, his impact was felt right out of the gates. With a 29 point 16 rebound performance in the opening game against in-state rival USC, his greatness was only getting started. With only three games being decided by less than ten points, coach John Wooden put together one of the finest groups ever to play the game, led by Alcindor and Wooden, this team he no troubles in reaching a perfect season of 30-0. By winning their NCAA tournament games by a combined 95 points, it was safe to say this team dismantled any team that tried to step in their way of being perfect.

6. 1954-1955 San Francisco Dons

Instagram Photo

With two NBA Hall of Famers in Bill Russell and K.C Jones, with Russell being arguably the best defensive player the game has ever seen; Bill Russell and K.C Jones put San Francisco on the map. Led by coach Phil Woolpert, the Dons put together a marvelous season ending with a 28-1 record. After defeating La Salle in the National Championship 77-63, with La Salle only managing to score seven second-half points, the Dons inked their mark into history finishing the season on a 26 game win streak. This was just the beginning.

#. 1965-1966 Texas Western Miners (UTEP)

Instagram Photo

Widely recognized for their historical significance with regards to the game of basketball, the Miners also happened to be one of the most talented teams to ever step foot on the hardwood. When Don Haskins, coach of the Miners, sent out five African-Americans to challenge Adolph Rupp and his all-white Kentucky team, Haskins was simply giving his team the best chance to win. The political influence comes after the fact that this team was just really good. Led by star guard Bobby Joe Hill, the Miners posted an incredible record of 28-1, with their lone loss being a two-point deficit coming at Seattle in front of one of the most hostile crowds in the nation at the time. With a final score of 72-65 over Adolph Rupp, Pat Riley, and the all-mighty Wildcats, the Miners would forever be known as not only the team that changed the game but also one of the best groups to ever take the floor.

4. 1967-1968 UCLA Bruins

Instagram Photo

Of course Lew Alcindor and John Wooden weren’t going to only make only one appearance on this list. Their encore to their first run together was even better. With a 29-1 record, this was arguably the best season ever played by a one-loss team. The Bruins were on an incredible 47 game win streak before they lost, “the game of the century,” to Elvin Hayes and his dominant Houston Cougars team 71-69 in front of 55,000 fans, the most an NCAA regular season game had ever seen in attendance up to that point. Not to worry, Alcindor avenged the loss in the final four by dismantling the Cougars with a final score of 101-69 before destroying North Carolina in the championship with a score of 78-55. There was a reason UCLA won eight straight titles.

3. 1955-1956 San Francisco Dons

Instagram Photo

The Dons made their second appearance on this list because like UCLA, their encore was even better than the bar they previously. With Woolpert, Russell, and Jones leading the pack, the Dons outdid their previous season by going undefeated with a record of 29-0. Not only were they the first team in the NCAA era to go undefeated, they did so without K.C Jones through the course of the tournament, who was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. Outside of Russell and Jones, the next highest scorer on the averaged no more than seven points a game. If anything was learned by this run, it was Russell’s greatness and incredibly, there would only be more to come. After being drafted first by the Boston Celtics, he went on to win 11 NBA championships in 13 seasons.

2. 1971-1972 UCLA Bruins

Instagram Photo

While John Wooden was still the head coach of the dominant Bruins, it was now Bill Waltons’s time to shine. As a freshman, he averaged 21 points and 16 rebounds; it was safe to say the massive void Alcindor had left the team with was filled. Wooden and Walton led the team to a perfect 30-0 record, with Walton receiving accolades such as  USBWA College Player of the Year, Naismith College Player of the Year, and of course the Adolph Rupp Trophy. 30-0 with an average score of 95-64, this UCLA team cemented themselves as one of, if not the best team ever to step foot on the hardwood. One two times during this dominant season saw UCLA only winning by single digits. One of those games came in the National Championship, where UCLA took down the Florida State Seminoles 81-76.

1. 1975-1976 Indiana Hoosiers

Instagram Photo

Starting off with a bang, Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight and his Hoosier’s dominated national powerhouse UCLA in the season opener 84-64. Led by star players Kent Benson, Scott May, and Bob Wilkerson, Knight got the best out of his players by his uncanny coaching prowess. He yelled, screamed, broke chairs, but most importantly got the most out of his players who respected his unorthodox style. In the NCAA tournament, Knight’s team won by an average of 13 points. In the national semifinal, they took down UCLA again 65-51 before dismantling Michigan in the final 86-68. After taking down UCLA twice, Knight and his Hoosier’s cemented themselves on top amongst the best teams of all times.

Warriors vs. Cavaliers Game 3 Live Stream: How To Watch Watch NBA Finals Online

After a three day break, the NBA Finals resumes tonight.

The Golden State Warriors took the first two games out in Oakland, sending the series back to Cleveland for a pivotal game three this evening. LeBron James and the Cavaliers had their chances in game one and two to possibly steal home court advantage, but couldn’t capitalize.

For the Cavs, the return home to what should a be a raucous atmosphere could be what turns the tide in the series. They have only lost once at the Q through this postseason — game one in the first round against the Pacers. But what also should be taken into account, Cleveland was down 2-0 in their last series against Boston and went on to roll in both games three and four on their home floor.

King James and his mates are in need of a must win so the Warriors don’t put a stranglehold on the series and inch closer to a second consecutive NBA title.

Instagram Photo

Speaking of the Warriors, they’re right where they want to be. Steph Curry and Co. can really put Cleveland in a bigger hole if they are victorious tonight.

In game two, Curry set a new NBA record for the most three-pointers in an NBA Finals game with nine in the Warriors 122-103 win.

Steve Kerr’s group has shown that they show no fear playing away from Oracle Arena — just ask James Harden and the Houston Rockets. Behind Curry, Durant, and Thompson have also led the way, playing lights out and putting on a three-point clinic. Golden State has also gotten excellent contributions from Andre Iguadola, Shaun Livingston, and David West just to name a few. Expect that to continue if Dubs Nation wants to make it a clean sweep and bring another championship back to the Bay Area.

Tonight should be another knock-down, drag em’ out fight between two heavyweights. COED has all you need to know about how you can watch or stream either the Warriors put a stranglehold on the Cavs, or the Cavs make sure there will be a game five.

Camp Pendleton Main Gate has been closed by police officials to both incoming and outgoing traffic. With the camp, a Marine Corps base camp located in California, announcing the closure on social media shortly before 1 p.m. local time, the base did not release information confirming a police investigation.

What happened?

Camp Pendleton issued the following statement on their official Twitter account:

“Camp Pendleton Main Gate (Vandergroft Blvd.) closed to inbound and outbound traffic due to police activity. More information will be posted as it becomes available.”

“A driver approached the main gate acting erratically. Military security personnel at the gate detained the driver and are checking the vehicle before clearing the area.”

Only the main gate has closed, but local buses were impacted by the closure

According to ABC News 10, a base spokesperson said that they were unable to release further information concerning the closing of the gate during early reports of the story.

According to Patch, the closure was caused after a driver appeared at the main gate and acted “erratically.” According to officials, only the main gate was impacted during the incident, with all other gates kept open; however, the closure impacted a few local buses, such as North County Transit’s Breeze bus routes 395 and 392, which were detoured.

UPDATE: On its official Twitter account, Camp Pendleton issued the following statement confirming that the gate had been reopened, adding that the driver whose actions instigated the closure was currently being questioned by officials:

“The main gate is now OPEN. A driver approached the main gate around 1230 p.m. acting erratically. Military security personnel at the gate detained the driver, closed the gate, and checked the vehicle before clearing the area. The driver is being questioned by Camp Pen PD.”

As this story is developing, more information will be released as made available.

Claudia Gadelha is one of the top women’s mixed martial arts fighters in the world. The 29-year-old from Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil is currently ranked as the No. 3 contender in the UFC’s strawweight division. She has previously competed for the championship, dropping a unanimous decision to former titleholder Joanna Jędrzejczyk.

Gadelha was not initially supported in her MMA career with her parents opposing the training, so she was forced to secretly begin training at her gym.

“The sport was teaching me how I should deal with life. Today, I am a completely different person, thanks to martial arts,” she said.

She has also previously discussed her rough childhood:

“I have a brother, but my father always asked me first when he needed help to carry things, because I was stronger than my brother and could handle more (weight),” Andrade said.

“When I wasn’t at school, I was at the farm. I think this strength of mine came from the farm. Spending my childhood carrying hampers to throw on the fork lifts, to mow corn, carrying weight around. I think the strength I have today is thanks to all this work from when I was a kid.”

Next up for Gadelha is a meeting with former UFC champion Carla Esparza at UFC 225 in Chicago, Illinois. The event is headlined by a middleweight title fight between current champ Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. In the co-main event, Colby Covington faces former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight title.

Kate Spade’s Impact On Fashion: An Overview

Shutterstock

On June 5, 2018, the world lost a fashion icon. Kate Spade’s stylistic influence extended beyond the confines of the runway: women across the United States trusted her eponymous brand and modeled themselves after it.

In the wake of this tragedy, we remember a few of the many ways that Spade left her mark on the world of fashion, and subsequently, American culture.

The Reimagined Handbag

A handbag created for its utility, class, and style is commonplace today because, in 1993, Spade identified a hole in the market and had the idea to design with these principles in mind. And, importantly, the brand was not created for only the super-rich. Kate Spade bags, while not cheap, were always at low enough prices to be within reach for both young and middle-class consumers.

The simple brilliance of her product was soon evident. Everywhere Kate Spade bags were sold, they were flying off the shelves almost immediately. Fast-forward twenty-five years and Spade’s landmark handbags are as successful as ever.

Fashion For Everyone

Spade governed her brand using the same principles as her initial handbag. In 2004, she was quoted in Vogue saying “We’re not intimidating. . . . I think some people get nervous about fashion because they find it a little scary. But fashion should be enjoyed; it shouldn’t be looked at from a jaded, been-there-done-that point of view.”

By throwing out the handbook, Spade directly benefited the working girl. Through Kate Spade, millions have felt empowered to dress like the women they aim to become without paying designer prices.

Outside of fashion, Spade was just as committed to justice. Her foundation, Kate Spade & Company, fights for economic equality for women.

An Enviable Aesthetic

Spade embodied the bright, light and bold brand she created and marshaled in a new generation of female designers. Everything she made was fun. Her creativity inspired countless individuals, not just artists or fashion designers, to think outside of the box or just simply experience a moment of joy.

The spirit of Spade’s designs showed the world that women don’t necessarily have to renounce their femininity or be morose to be a powerful presence. Now, a generation of women imitate her cheerful color palette in their own wardrobe and enter the work-world toting her bags on their arm.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour eloquently summarized the impact Spade made in a statement following the news of her death:

“Kate Spade had an enviable gift for understanding exactly what women the world over wanted to carry. She launched her label at a time when everyone thought that the definition of a handbag was strictly European, all decades-old serious status and wealth,” Wintour said. “Then along came this thoroughly American young woman who changed everything. There was a moment when you couldn’t walk a block in New York without seeing one of her bags, which were just like her; colorful and unpretentious.”

Kate Spade was fierce, forward-thinking and authentically modern. She embodied what it means to be a good American. Not only did she find tremendous success by rewriting the rules of her industry to create something completely new, she did so with the needs of the public in mind. Instead of blending in with the rest of the pack, Spade used what made her unique to build one of the most far-reaching brands in the country over just a few years. And this all can be said before mentioning her menswear line, her new brand Frances Valentine, or that she was already a pioneer of online retail in 2004.

In herself, Spade found an icon and used a handbag to start a new generation of American women.
