Ten Players Who Shockingly Didn’t Qualify For World Cup 2018

$

FIFA’s 2018 World Cup has come with plenty of surprises so far, and the tournament hasn’t even started. With big names such as America and Italy absent from the roster, there are also talented players who got cut from the competition this year. Whether it was due to their national team not qualifying, disagreement with management or injury, here’s a crop of players who will certainly be missed in this year’s cup.

Instagram Photo

Leroy Sane (Germany): Sane served as a winger for Manchester City and was a vital player for the team. Additionally, he was voted the Premier League’s youngest player of the year after he racked up 14 goals and 19 assists. In spite of this, Germany manager, Joachim Low didn’t yet think Sane was ready for the national team. There’s speculation over whether or not that’s the real reason Sane didn’t qualify. It’s possible Low just isn’t a fan of the 22-year-old.

Marcus Alonso (Spain): The 27-year-old had an excellent 2016/2017 season with Chelsea when the team secured 30 wins and only five losses. However, their last season wasn’t so hot which might explain why Alonso fell off the radar for the Spanish National Team.

Aymeric Laporte (France): As the center back for Manchester City, Laporte along with his teammates had an astounding overall season, and finished with a well-deserved Premier League trophy. French coach, Didier Deschamps must not have been up-to-date on the news because he refused Laporte a spot on the national team.

Instagram Photo

Radja Nainggolan (Belgium): The Roma center midfielder largely contributed to the club progressing to the Champions League semi-final. Belgium National Team coach, Roberto Martinez apparently didn’t notice because he rejected Nainggolan. Martinez claims it was for “tactical” reasons. As a response, Nainggolan called it quits and retired from international football.

Cesc Fàbregas (Spain): Fàbregas was a powerhouse a couple of years ago, but the 31-year-old’s level of play has slightly declined since then. The Chelsea midfielder hasn’t delivered the way he used to which is unfortunate because he used to be one of the top picks.

Mario Gotze (Germany): The Borussia Dortmund midfielder had an okay season which could explain his failure to make the German National Team. It’s just odd because Gotze was the one who scored Germany’s extra-time goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final. Goes to show that a lot can change in four years.

Instagram Photo

Anthony Martial (France): It can be argued the Manchester United forward received the short end of the stick this past season. United manager Jose Mourinho failed to play the 22-year old consistently, therefore Martial only saw 18 games. He still was able to procure 9 goals impressively enough. Regardless, his partial presence for the club led to his complete absence from the French squad.

Gareth Bale (Wales): Unfortunately the Real Madrid star was unable to carry Wales to Russia. It’s a shame because Bale had one of his best performances this past season, specifically during the Real vs. Liverpool Champions League final. Hopefully, the winger will get a shot in 2020.

Virgil Van Dijk (Holland): The statement“It’s me, not you” definitely doesn’t apply here. Van Dijk has enhanced Liverpool’s backline tenfold since joining as a center back. It would have been a pleasure to watch him in this year’s cup, but sadly, Holland didn’t make it to Russia. This is the second major international tournament in a row that the team has missed.

Instagram Photo

David Alaba (Austria): The 25-year-old is undoubtedly Austria’s best player and possibly one of the best-left backs in all of soccer. You won’t be seeing him play for the Austrian National Team though because the country didn’t even come close to qualifying. Don’t worry though. You can still watch him play for his club team, Bayern Munich.

Alice Johnson Sentence Commuted: Full Story & Must-See Details

President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a first-time nonviolent drug offender. This news comes just one week after Kim Kardashian met with Trump in the Oval Office to talk prison reform and plead for Johnson’s release.

In 1996, Johnson was convicted on eight criminal counts stemming from a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking operation. The 63-year-old great-grandmother was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 and was not eligible for parole. After serving 21 years, she was released from prison on June 6, 2018.

It looks like Kim and the clan may have helped contribute to this incredibly heartwarming moment. Persuading the president by using your ultra-celebrity power is always a good move.

The White House issued a statement regarding Johnson’s clemency, via CNN:

“Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates,” the White House said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

“While this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance,” the statement added.

Timeline Of Events For Alice Johnson’s Campaign For Clemency

Johnson’s family has long campaigned for Alice’s release, saying she is a “model inmate” and involved with many of the prison’s programs, including working at their hospice center.

In 2014, the non-profit Can-Do, who advocates for clemency for non-violent drug offenders, began supporting her case.

Towards the end of Obama’s presidency in December 2016, he pardoned 231 individuals. Many of whom, had similar non-violent drug-related charges as Johnson. Although Johnson submitted her clemency application on three occasions to the Obama Administration, she was rejected each time for unknown reasons.

Johnson’s story eventually caught the attention of the Kardashian family in the fall of 2017. The Kardashian’s Los Angeles-based attorney, Shawn Holley told the NY Daily News, “Kim asked me several weeks ago how she could help Alice Johnson in her fight for justice. We then began corresponding with Alice and her team of lawyers.”

In May 2018, Kim Kardashian met with the president at the White House to talk “prison reform” and plead Johnson’s case.

One week later, on June 6, 2018, this happened…

Congrats to Alice and the Johnson family, and kudos to any celebrity who uses their platform to support those in need.

A Dirt Bike Joy Ride Sheds Light On The Art Of The Senior Prank

The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and summer is just around the corner for countless high schoolers around the country. For many seniors, that means it’s the perfect time to concoct the perfect prank.

There’s a lot of ingredients that go into carrying out the ideal senior prank. Let’s go through:

  1. Originality: Don’t release cows in your school. We’ve all heard that one.
  2. Shock: The fewer people who know the better.
  3. Wide-range: The more people who see it the better.
  4. Safety: Don’t risk injury. It’ll place a dark cloud over the whole thing.
  5. Funny: No brainer.
  6. Don’t Get Caught: Get in the criminal mindset. Always have an escape plan.

You’re on your way to something memorable if you hit all six of these essentials. Unfortunately for a Roxbury High School student, he got less than half…

The unnamed student took his dirt bike on a joyride through the halls of Roxbury High in Ledgewood, New Jersey.

At the end of the video, you see him get caught by a couple teachers and then… it’s over. A quick ending to a short-lived charade. The student was later arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault. The assault charge was added because a girl suffered minor injuries after the bike’s handlebars clipped her.

Blatant violation of rule 4, my friend! Also, 5 and 6 but hey, let’s go easy on the kid.

In light of this sad pranking story, let’s take a look back at some of the greats so we can learn and get inspired.

Dana Tapper Arrest: Full Story & Must-See Details

Richmond Police Department

A Virginia lawyer who once received $20,000 from Ellen DeGeneres when she was a law student, has been accused of providing drugs to an inmate and having sex with an inmate.

Dana Tapper, 30, has been charged with providing a prisoner with a cell phone, providing a prisoner with drugs, and distribution of a controlled substance. There were two incidents in which she allegedly gave an inmate a cell phone on December 7, 2017, and then gave him drugs five days later.

One source claims Tapper visited the inmate hundreds of times at the Riverside Regional Jail to smuggle drugs and have sex with him in prison. The inmate’s name has not been released and it has not been revealed what drugs she allegedly brought into the prison or how they were smuggled.

In 2013, Ellen DeGeneres invited Tapper to the show after her friend wrote a letter about her work with troubled low-income children. Tapper was a law student at the University of Virginia at the time.

via DailyMail:

‘Most law students are lured in by promises of large corporate salaries to help pay off their debt,’ the letter, obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, read.

‘But Dana has been steadfast in her commitment to helping those less fortunate.’ During her appearance on the show, Tapper told DeGeneres that she was the first person in her family to go to college.

She also talked of her dreams to help those in the juvenile justice system. ‘The only reason I went to law school was to work with kids,’ she told the host.

DeGeneres then surprised Tapper with a $20,000 gift donated from online photo service Shutterfly.

Tapper was not an attorney for the inmate. Records show that she has a history of visiting prisoners that she does not represent.

The 30-year-old Richmond lawyer visited inmate Karon Porter 38 times at Riverside Regional Jail during the span of a year-and-a-half. Porter was later found guilty of leading state police on a 2013 high-speed chase. He had crashed into a car and killed a 73-year-old Marine veteran.

Tapper will go on trial in August and also faces a bar hearing for “misconduct” in June. She remains an attorney in good standing with an active law license.

For the second straight year — and three out of the last four — the Golden State Warriors will be the NBA Champions.

In fact, the Warriors have been so good and so dominant for so long that one could easily forget what the world was like before their epic dynasty (aka before Kevin Durant ruined basketball, but I digress)

“But it was only four years ago!”, you may say, “how could the world possibly be that different?!”. Well, let’s take a look back to 2014, shall we?

The last time the Golden State Warriors weren’t in the NBA Finals…

– The Supreme Court had yet to legalize same-sex marriage.

– The iPhone 6 was the newest iPhone.

– Speaking of Apple, CEO Tim Cook came out as a gay man.

– Aaron Hernandez was awaiting his murder trial.

– The Seahawks WHOOPED the Broncos in the Super Bowl.

– Kim Kardashian & Kanye West just got married.

– Caitlyn Jenner was still Bruce Jenner.

– American Sniper was the highest-grossing movie of the year.

– The Fappening happened.

– The Ferguson Riots took place.

– The world had just been introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy.

– The Ebola outbreak began in Africa.

– The United States Men’s National Team was actually preparing to play in the World Cup.

– Robin Williams committed suicide.

– Apple acquired Beats for $3 billion.

– Draymond Green was just a young, viral sensation:

The 150th running of the Belmont Stakes will take place on June 9th at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. This year’s Belmont Stakes could be the scene of the 13th Triple Crown Winner. Justify looks to complete the final leg of the Triple Crown feat after winning at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The last Triple Crown winner was American Pharoah in 2015.

The “Test of the Champions” race should be a heavily contested race featuring 10 horses. The race is set to open its gates at 6:37 P.M. Justify drew the 1st post position, which bodes well for the horse because the most Belmont champions (23) have been produced from that post position.

The Belmont is the longest of the three Triple-Crown races and continually is the most difficult to win. The length of the race and the addition of rested horses will be two of the barriers Justify will need to overcome to reach the winner’s circle and make history. The Belmont Stakes race length is 1 1/2 miles long. The fastest recorded time at the Belmont belongs to Triple Crown winning horse Secretariat with a time of 2:24 in 1973.

Sarah Paulson, most well known for her remarkable performance in the American Horror Story Anthropology and American Crime Story: The People VS. OJ Simpson is on the road to stardom. She’s just starting her movie career as she accepts a major role in what’s set to be one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters, Ocean’s 8. As she takes one of the main roles in an all-women cast of heist professionals.

Sarah Paulson Net Worth As of 2018: $8 Million

Instagram Photo

Over the course of her career, Paulson has netted an impressive amount of money. Let’s take a look back at her career and how she came to amass this fortune.

Early Life: 1974-2003

Instagram Photo

Sarah Paulson was born on December 17, 1974, in Tampa, Flordia. She began her career on stage, making her true film debut in the 2000 classic comedy What Women Want, and Down with Love in 2003. Paulson quickly realized her nitch was in dramas after starring in her fair share of sitcoms and romantic comedies. Sarah realized she liked playing a more serious character. This would allow her to seek out her full acting potential.

2005-Present

Instagram Photo

In 2011, Paulson struck gold when she was cast in FX’s American Horror Story Anthology series. She went on to win a Critic’s Choice Award in 2013 for her performance in the second season titled Asylum. This was the same year Sarah starred in the Oscar-winning historical drama 12 Years a Slave. Sarah said in many an interview how important it was for her to be apart of such a monumental film.

2016 was the year that changed Paulson’s life as she received critical acclaim for her role as Marcia Clark in the FX hit miniseries American Crime Story: The People VS. O.J. Simpson. This role ensured her a nomination for an Emmy, Golden Globe and a SAG award, that she won. Paulson is about to participate in one of her biggest roles yet as she takes a leading role in Ocean’s 8! Alongside some of the biggest female names in Hollywood. Including Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling and Dakota Fanning.

Sarah Paulson has been apart of the feminist movement since her start in the entertainment industry. But with the recent rise in the women’s empowerment movement, she has made her voice heard. Calling out men in Hollywood, making sure they know that their actions and behavior won’t be tolerated any longer. Women actors deserve the right to equal pay and equal treatment in the workplace. No one should be able to use their power as a tool her manipulation or harassment.

Paulson’s reasoning for signing up to be apart of the cast of Ocean’s 8 is to show the men of Hollywood, women are more than capable of playing the roles of men. This movie will allow women to feel empowered, powerful and strong. That is the key foundation female representation in the entertainment industry has been lacking for a very long time. This heist movie will bear a similar resemblance to the original which starred some of Hollywood’s biggest male names. But this movie will have a strong female-powered twist. Paulson is taking back the power in Hollywood and giving it to the women. Sarah’s role is modeled after a classic male character from the original film, but she is sure to make it her own! I can’t wait to see how she does!

He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 86th overall pick and was the 6th running back selected. In Hunt’s NFL debut in the Chief’s first regular season game against the Patriots, he fumbled despite never doing so in college. After he brushed off his first snap jitters, Hunt didn’t look back for the rest of the season. He would finish that game with three touchdowns and 246 total yards, the most yards ever in an NFL debut. By the end of his rookie year, he had 1,327 rushing yards, 455 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

JR Smith Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Smith Worth?

JR Smith is an American Basketball player who remarkably started playing basketball in High School for his hometown, Freehold Borough, New Jersey. Despite having aspirations to play for the University of North Carolina, his goals were cut short….when he was drafted to the NBA directly out of High School in the 2004 draft.

The New Orleans Hornets sponsored Smith for two years before he was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2006. Smith played pretty well for his first couple years in the league, earning respect from fans and players alike. In 2011, he played pro ball in Asia for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls and then transferred back to the US to play for the New York Knicks in 2013. He currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, however, and has recently immortalized himself in the meme/sports flops hall of fame when mistakenly stalled out in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA finals.

J.R. Smith Net Worth In 2018: 20 Million Dollars

J.R. Smith’s salary is estimated to be $6.5 Million while his net worth is reportedly $20 million. Let’s take a look back at Smith’s Basketball career.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

J.R. Smith is originally from the Clarksburg section of Millstone Township, New Jersey. He attended several schools in the district including Steinert High School and McCorristen Catholic High School before her transferred to Lakewood High School. Lakewood High School was where Smith would play basketball for the first time. He then transferred to Saint Benedicts Preparatory school where he averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. In 2003, J.R. signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Then, in April 2004, Smith performed exceptionally well at the McDonalds All American game and declared himself eligible for the NBA draft. He was drafted 18th overall in the first round by the New Orleans Hornets. He was one of nine players drafted out of High School that year.

2004 – 2006

Instagram Photo

In his first season with the New Orleans Hornets, Smith played decently well, averaging about 10 points per game. He finished 3rd in the Sprite Dunk Contest that year behind Amare Stoudemire and winner Josh Smith. The Hornets failed to make the playoffs that year after having a convincingly negative record for most of the season. Smith, however, was named rookie of the month 3 consecutive times in 2005.

His first seasons were characterized by respectable play, not superstardom.

2006 – 2011

Instagram Photo

Smith was traded twice in 2006, first to the Chicago Bulls, then to the Denver Nuggets. He played averagely well with the Nuggets and maintained his expected potential. The 2006 – 2007 season marked Smiths first Playoffs appearance, where he did not play particularly well and was criticized for poor in-game decision making by coach George Karl. That was probably an apt assertation considering recent events…

In 2008, Smith was selected to help the Senior USA Basketball team prepare for the Olympics.

In 2009, Smith made 11 three-point shots in a single game, nearly tying the NBA record of 12.

He finished the 2009 – 2010 season with the second most three-pointers in the league.

In 2011, Smith did not secure an opt-out clause during the 2011 NBA lockout and consequently decided to play professionally in China for one year with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, where he scored a career high of 60 points (including 14 three-pointers in 18 attempts).

2012 – Present

Instagram Photo

Smith returned to the NBA in 2012 to play for the New York Knicks, where he again performed decently well, averaging about 12 points per game. In 2013, he was awarded the Sixth Man Of The Year Award after averaging nearly 20 points per game.

In April of that same year, he was suspended for elbowing Jason Terry in the Chin. He then got suspended again for illicit drug use, and then again a year later for unsportsmanlike conduct – he was attempting to untie the shoelaces of his opponents and was fined 50,000 K.

In 2015 Smith was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers and won a Championship in the 2015 – 2016 season.

In 2016, Smith signed a 4-year $57 Million contract so this post will be obsolete in two years.

Bill Gates Has A Gift For You, Class Of 2018

Congratulations Class of 2018, you did it, reach for the stars, blah blah blah, great job! As you prepare yourself for the real world, Bill Gates, mega-billionaire, mega-philanthropist, and mega-nerd (If you’re just learning who Bill Gates is from this post, drop what you’re doing and repeat college) has a special gift for you. But, If you’re like me, and instantly became a math guru to calculate how much ~ $93 Billion divided by 4.5 Million (number of college graduates) is in anticipation of Bill Gates’ “gift,” assuming of course that he was giving away all his money, you’d be sorry to find out Bill is not giving you roughly $20,666 dollars. Instead, Bill Gates is giving away something priceless, knowledge. For real though, it’s priceless as in it literally has no price.

Congratulations are now in order again, because you, Class of 2018, will be the proud new owners of Factfullness, by Hans Rosling. You’re probably thinking, “Just what I need, another cheap present from my rich friend, *feigns excitement*” Pucker up buttercup, this book is worth your while.

No, it does not contain the secret formula to amassing a Bill Gates-like fortune, but it does include optimism in a time of almost certain uncertainty. Specifically, “Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think.” Hans Rosling was a Swedish Physician who is probably best well-known for giving the TED talk below and several others. In the TED talk, he visualizes life expectancy with regards to income and talks about the impending fear of overpopulation. He also seeks to understand how we can lift impoverished countries out of poverty so every country in the world can be considered “developed.” Hans Rosling was trying to save the world but sadly passed away last year.

Fortunately, Rosling’s book embodies his legacy and Bill Gates is putting his seal of approval on it. According to Forbes, the 5 most important lessons in the book are:

1. Earth isn’t as hopeless as we are lead to believe

2. “Us Vs. Them” mentality is human nature

3. Worrying about everything all at once prevents us from focusing in on the most pressing matters

4. Sometimes we think things are getting better when in reality they’re getting much worse.

5. “Fear rules” influence our media consumption.

In a video from his YouTube channel, Gates is calling the book, “One of the most educational books I’ve ever read. It covers a space that it’s not easy to learn about. The world would be better if literally millions of people read the book.”

I’m sure you’re convinced by now that reading Factfullness is a good idea, so here’s how you can do that.

1. You can get the book by clicking right here <—-

2. Scroll half-way down the page and enter your college/university and email into the designated area and click “download.”

3. Read the Book.

4. That’s it.

Truth be told, I haven’t even graduated college yet, and I was able to get myself a copy. Security is very loose on his website – so take that Bill Gates – thanks for the book though!

This Lady Arrested For Lighting Fires At An MLB Stadium Is Surprisingly Not From Florida

Handout

Ah, Kansas City … the Panama City Beach of the Midwest. I’ve never been to either place, so that may be a little bit of a cheap shot, but all is fair in love and internet-ing.

When I first saw 36-year-old Bridget DePriest’s mugshot, I immediately assumed she was from Florida? Is that, like, Stateism (racism against states?)? Little bit, yeah. But I’ve been working on the internet for quite some time now, so I can promise you that Florida no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Alas, DePriest was not arrested in Florida, but in Kansas City, after she allegedly set several fires on the Kauffman Stadium (where the Kansas City Royals play) grass. DePriest was caught by a ballpark security guard around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, after he shined a flashlight and saw her on the field. DePriest was arrested by Kansas City police and charged with trespassing and open burning.

via Fox 4 KC:

Police say Bridget Depriest claimed to have entered the ballpark through a gate Tuesday at 8 a.m. The Royals say they haven’t found any evidence yet that she’d been in the stadium that long.

As stadium security checked the major league diamond, they found garbage left behind and evidence that Depriest had set three small fires on the stadium’s well manicured turf.

Small burn marks scarring what most fans know to be a lush green landscape were quickly cleaned up by the team’s grounds crew this morning.

At this time, the Royals are still investigating DePriest got into the ballpark, as there is no evidence that she could have been in the ballpark since Tuesday at 8 a.m.

“There’s no indication that she was in the building for as long as she supposedly told police,” said Toby Cook, Royals’ vice president of publicity. “The only time we have seen her on surveillance video has been after dark.”

If that ain’t a story that belongs in Florida, I don’t know what is.

The Best Twitter Reactions To Bryan Colangelo Getting Fired

Twitter

About a week after the bombshell report from The Ringer about alleged Twitter accounts operated by Philadelphia 76ers GM Bryan Colangelo, the two parties have decided to part ways.

In the May 29th report, The Ringer claimed to receive anonymous tips about five Twitter accounts — @phila1234567, @AlVic40117560, @Honesta34197118, @Enoughunkownso1, and @s_bonhams — that were reportedly being run by Philadelphia 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo (the anonymous source determined this by using “open-source data analysis”).

The accounts were brash and unprofessional, tweeting criticisms of NBA players such as Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel, publicly questioning the decisions of the 76ers’ coaching staff, critiquing former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie and Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri, telegraphing the 2017 Markelle Fultz trade, disclosing nonpublic medical information about Okafor and gossiping about Embiid and Fultz to members of the national and Philadelphia media.

After an internal investigation and outside pressure, Colangelo’s WIFE eventually admitted to being the person behind the Twitter accounts. Nevertheless, the situation between the team and their general manager was no longer tenable so he was more or less fired.
Obviously, Twitter reacted accordingly.

Top 10 Highest Paid Soccer Players On Earth Right Now

Highest Paid Soccer Players

Soccer is one of the world’s most popular sports, so it is no surprise that the top stars make pretty hefty salaries. With free agency looming, there are certain to be a lot of eyes on this year’s World Cup trying to find the next big star who will get the next record-breaking contract.  In the meantime, here is a current list of the highest paid soccer players in the world today who have all had record-breaking contracts offered to them at some point in time. Note that this list is comprised solely off of money made from their current contracts, and additional income such as sponsorship money is not factored in.

10: Graziano Pelle (Shandon Luneng)

Instagram Photo

Paying a handsome transfer fee of £12 million to bring the Italian to Shandon, Pelle reportedly is earning £15 million per year. Graziano is one in a long list of big names that have been drawn to China in recent years in search of wealth and stardom.

9: Paul Pogba (Manchester United)

Instagram Photo

Currently earning £15.4 million, after returning from Juventus, Pogba’s first season with Manchester U. didn’t go exactly as planned as many felt he was underperforming considering the money he was making. Pogba has silenced his critics, however, bouncing back in a major way this season, putting on some dazzling performances, and helping to get the Red Devils moving in the right direction again.

8: Kylian Mbappe

Instagram Photo

The French sensation is a new addition to this list, with his move to PSG last summer, Mbappe is reported to be earning £15.9 million annually. Playing alongside names like Neymar, and Edinson Cavani, if Mbappe continues to impress, it is likely that PSG will be picking up his £166 million buyout option next summer.

7: Hulk (Shanghai SIPG)

Instagram Photo

Earning a current reported wage of £17.5 million, the Brazilian has been a constant name amongst the highest earners in soccer throughout his career. Before his international teammate Oscar arrived, Hulk’s  £45 million transfer fee to Asia had been the most expensive transfer of all time. Hulk has been dominant in China and has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League due to the higher level of competition. Whether or not a big club will be able to make that happens remains to be seen, but if it does, there is a strong chance Hulk’s name will be higher than the number seven spot on this list next year.

6: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

Instagram Photo

A surprising entrant at number six, the Real Madrid star is reported to earn £18.5 million on a contract that expires in 2021. It has been reported that Ronaldo has requested an increased salary, at least on par with that of his generational counterpart Leo Messi. The two have been debated as the best players of this generation, as well as all time, so for there to be such a gap in wages is understandably frustrating for Ronaldo.

5: Ezequiel Lavezzi (Hebei China)

Instagram Photo

Yet another big name, swoon by the high price tag of the Chinese Super League, the Argentinian is reported to be making £20.3 million per year. Lavezzi failed to live up to the hype in his first year with Hebei, appearing in just ten games, without netting a single goal. During his second season, however, he has begun to get back to his goal-scoring ways and is proving to fans that he is worth the money he is being paid.

4: Oscar (Shanghai SIPG)

Instagram Photo

After causing an uproar with his move from Chelsea to Shanghai, his move to the Chinese club became the most expensive Asian transfer of all time. Ridiculed by many for choosing to transfer as he entered his prime at age 24, it is hard to argue with a price tag of £21.1 million annually.

3: Alexis Sanchez (Manchester United)

Instagram Photo

Sanchez is currently primed to be the Premier League’s top earner once his move to Old Trafford is complete, he will be set to earn £23.4 million annually. A key piece in Arsenal’s FA Cup championship runs in 2015 and 2017, he is expected to continue his success with Old Trafford, proving that he is worth the money he will be paid.

2: Neymar (Paris-Saint Germain)

Instagram Photo

With his record-breaking move from Barcelona to PSG last summer, it comes as no shock that Neymar finds himself as one of the top earners in the game today. After forking over £198 million to steal him away from Barcelona, PSG is currently paying Neymar £31.7 million annually, and up until his injury in February, he was worth every penny. How he will bounce back remains to be seen, but you can bet his play in the upcoming World Cup will be something everyone is anxious to see.

1: Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)

Instagram Photo

What shouldn’t come as much of a surprise here, after signing his contract extension with Barcelona last year, Messi is set to earn £40.5 Million until 2021. While Messi certainly has the resume to earn such an income, at this point in his career, many consider him to be overpaid due to the fact that his level of play will soon be on the decline. Whether or not that happens, Barcelona fans can rest easy knowing that their star player is being taken good care of by the club.

Best Pieces Of Advice Commencement Speeches

This Spring, convocation ceremonies at universities everywhere are being held to commemorate the past accomplishments and inspire future achievements in the lives of graduates from the class of 2018. As the next generation of world leaders enter the workforce, they are left with only what they made of their education and the fleeting wisdom imparted upon them from industry professionals speaking at their commencement. This year, some especially notable figures offered their advice to the grads. Here are 10 of the most memorable pieces of wisdom bestowed.

These are listed in no particular order other than which they were selected.

Hillary Clinton

Date: May 20, 2018

Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election to Donald Trump back in 2016. In her own words, she still isn’t “over it,” and admits to struggling with coming to terms with the results of the election even now. Yet, what she’s learned in her years as a politician, whether she’s winning or losing, is that you must keep trying; and that wisdom is bipartisan.

“These are challenging times for America, but then again we’ve come through challenging times before… This moment feels even more hopeful because this is a battle-hardened hope, tempered by loss, and clear-eyed about the stakes. We are standing up to policies that hurt people… We are doing the work to translate feelings into action. And the fact that some days it is really hard to keep at it makes it that much more remarkable that so many of us are, in fact keeping at it.

At this moment in history, our country depends on every citizen believing in the power of their actions even when that power is invisible and their efforts feel like an uphill battle.

We need to be ready to lose some fights because we will. John McCain recently reminded us, No just cause is futile even if it’s lost. What matters is to keep going, no matter what keep going.”

Tim Cook

Date: May 13, 2018

Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, returned to his alma mater, Duke, to deliver his “Be Fearless” address. As a mega-millionaire and business mogul, his words of advice are worth listening to.

“In every way, at every turn, the question we ask ourselves is not what can we do, but rather what should we do. Because that’s what Steve taught us. And from him, I learned to never be content with the way things are. I believe this mindset comes naturally to young people, and you should never let go of this restlessness.

How will you challenge the status quo? How will you push the world forward?

Be the last to accept the notion that the world you inherit cannot be improved.

You should be the last to accept it, and the first to change it.

Duke Graduates, be fearless. Be the last people to accept things as they are”

Oprah Winfrey

Date: May 11, 2018

Who better to send off graduates from a school of communication and journalism than Oprah Winfrey? The multi-talented Billionaire came armed with some good news and some bad news for the class of 2018.

Bad News:

“Everything around us, including and in particular the internet and social media is now being used to erode trust in our institution in our fear, in our elections, and wreak havoc on our infrastructure, it hands advertiser a map to our deepest desires, it enables misinformation to run rampant, attention spans to run shorts, and false articles from phony sites to run circles around major news outlets. We have literally walked into traffic while staring at our phones.”

Good News:

“There really is a solution, and the solution is every one of you because you will become the new editorial gatekeepers. An ambitious army of truth seekers, because you will arm yourselves with the insights and the facts necessary to strike down deceit. You are in a position to keep all of those who now disparage real news in check.”

Michael Bloomberg

Date: May 12, 2018

Michael Bloomberg, another billionaire media mogul and former mayor of New York City, paid Rice University a visit on May 12. Low-key pandering aside, the guy knows what he’s talking about. Most notably, he advocated for the respect of honesty. In his own words:

“Bringing this country back together starts with the first lesson you learned here at Rice, which is that Honesty Matters. An everyone must be held accountable for being honest. So as you go out into the world, I urge you to do what honesty requires. Recognize that no one person nor either party has a monopoly on good ideas. Judge events based on what happened, not who did it. Hold yourself and our leaders to the highest standards of ethics and morality. respect the knowledge of scientists. Follow the data wherever it leads. listen to people who you disagree without trying to censor them or shout over them. and have the courage to say things that your own side doesn’t want to hear. “

Ronan Farrow

Date: May 5, 2018

Ronan Farrow, at only 30 years old, gained national and international attention after breaking the Harvey Weinstein Sex scandal on October 23, 2017, for the New Yorker. His dad is also Woody Allen, though, who has been accused of sexual misconduct himself. This year, he spoke at Loyola Marymount University to share the lessons he’s learned throughout his relatively short but promising career.

“[a year ago] My career was on the rocks. And as a result of tackling this story [Harvey Weinstein] as doggedly as I did, it fell apart almost completely.

I had no idea if I was doing the right thing.

I remember a low point last fall where I hadn’t slept and I had lost all this weight, and I was on the phone with my poor, long-suffering partner, who dealt with a lot of annoying calls, and I just learned I might get scooped entirely, and I remember

thinking I swung too wide, I gambled too much, and no one is even gonna know that I lost everything…

Yet, I didn’t in fact stop. But also less nobly, I realized I had gambled too much and I realized there was no way out, but through…

Despite not stopping though I did start to think I had made the wrong call at times, and that’s the message I have for you today. In Hindsight, it’s always clear, whether or not your choices were the right one. In hindsight, you know whether it was right to stick to your guns.

But in the moment, you don’t know any of that. You don’t how important a story is gonna be. If you’re fighting because you’re right or if you’re fighting because your ego, desire to win and the notion of yourself as a hero is clouding your judgment. You can have a gut reaction, a feeling or an inner voice that tells you what to do, but you can’t be sure…

Pay close attention to yourself and to your teachings…”

Chadwick Boseman

Date: May 12, 2018

Chadwick Boseman, star of one of the biggest films of the year, Black Panther, spoke at the historically black college, Howard University on May 12. Black Panther was hailed for its groundbreaking cast that was made up of almost entirely African American actors. Boseman also portrayed Jackie Robinson in the movie 42 back in 2013 and Thurgood Marshall in the 2017 film Marshall. He is a Howard University Alumnus. This is what he has to say to the next generation:

“You would rather find purpose than a job or a career. Purpose crosses disciplines. Purpose is an essential element of you. It is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history. Your very existence is wrapped up in the things you are here to fulfill. Whatever you choose for a career path, remember the struggles along the are only meant to shape you for your purpose. I don’t know what your future is, but if you are willing to take the harder way, the more complicated way…The one that has ultimately proven to have more meaning more victory, more glory, than you will not regret it. Now, [black panther voice] this is your time.”

Hamdi Ulukaya

Date: May 14, 2018

Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder of Chobani yogurt, overcame a lot to get to where he is today. As a child of immigrant parents, he has struggled not only with the perseverance and ambition that running a business entails, but with additional unseen obstacles as well. His message is very straightforward:

“If you believe in people you work with and listen to them, and learn from them, and give them a reason to believe in you. everything is possible. You might be an MBA, just don’t act like one. Acknowledging the wisdom and experience of a forklift operator or a security guard with 30 years on the job doesn’t diminish your own experience. Acknowledging the sacrifice of others that enable you to be in this position, does not diminish sacrifices that you made on your own. Be the kind of a leader that other people want to sacrifice for.

Acknowledge the wisdom around you. “

Justin Trudeau

Date: May 16, 2018

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, addressed an enormous crowd at Yankee Stadium on May 16th. As a political leader himself, he offered diplomatic advice that can be useful for everyone.

“As you go forward from this place, I would like you to make a point of reaching out to people whose beliefs and values differ from your own. I would like you to listen to them, truly listen, and try to understand them, and find that common ground. You have a world of opportunity at your fingertips. But as you go forward from here, understand that just around the corner, a whole different order of learning awaits, in which your teachers will come from every station in life, every education level, every belief system, every lifestyle. And I hope you will embrace that. You have been students, you will continue to learn all your lives, but now it is also time for you to become leaders.”

Chance The Rapper

Date: May 12, 2018

Chance The Rapper, current music superstar and social justice advocate, spoke to graduates of Dillard University at their graduation. He offered sage advice for all of the students, by saying:

“The highest form of respect that we can pay to the people who came before us — the people who sacrificed for us and gave us everything — is to be better than them. … Many of you will strive to be artists, doctors, lawyers, politicians, scientists. And as you do that, there will be moments of fear, moments where you walk right up to the edge of what your heroes have accomplished and think to yourself, ‘What’s beyond this? I don’t know. I’m scared to go on.’ And that is the moment when you have become as great as your greatest inspiration. And that’s also when you cannot stop. Living up to your heroes is amazing, but it’s not good enough. The difference between goodness and greatness is going beyond. You have to push forward and surpass their greatness in order to pay homage to their struggle. Don’t be afraid.”

Siddhartha Mukherjee

Date: May 11, 2018

Siddhartha Mukherjee, an American-Indian doctor best known for his 2010 book Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, appropriately dedicated his speech to the importance of listening.

“It is impossible to ignore that we have stopped listening to each other. Or, for that matter, that we have stopped listening to natural laws. Silence is the absolute prerequisite of listening…

…the premium placed on self-curation, on individuality, on identity — Who are you? What are you? — has created a perpetual echo chamber of self-actualization from which there is seemingly no escape. But you, of course, will be part of the listening generation… You are part of the new order. You will learn to hear each other out and listen to each other. Learn to inhabit each other’s joys and sufferings. You will fight on, but you will listen in.”
