March Madness Basketball

As we proceed to the next slew of intense college basketball affairs, fans and pundits alike are most likely still reeling from the shocking upsets and contentious contests that were apart of the first round of March Madness. However, there is little time to emotionally recover from these momentous displays of competitiveness as round two of the NCAA Tournament will most likely offer even more of the same with blue bloods attempting to advance on to next week while the underrated teams attempt to keep their dreams alive by pulling off more dramatic upsets. For anyone who’s bracket is still unbusted, prepare to endure more anxiety as this grueling yet incredibly exciting tournament wears on. For those whose bracket is already busted, do not be devastated. On the bright side, you can now sit back and comfortably enjoy the forthcoming madness without being completely beholden to the emotional turmoil that comes when your bracket inevitably becomes a hot mess.

Alabama Crimson Tide (9) vs. Villanova Wildcats (1)

The resurgent Crimson Tide emphatically proved that they have every right to be a participant in this tournament after they won a shootout against the accurate shooters of Virginia Tech. Unsurprisingly, Collin Sexton was the star of the game as he made 50% of his shots from the field. However, Sexton was not the only one who was feeling it from a shooting perspective as the Crimson Tide as a whole shot 44.4% from three-point range. Although it’s difficult to gauge the competitive presence of a one seed when they crush a 16 seed in the first round, the Wildcats certainly looked the part of an elite program as they shot over 50% from three-point range, which was the result of the impressive unselfish play by everyone involved (20 assists against Radford). While the Crimson Tide have the physical athletes that can test and overcome Villanova’s relatively weak defense, the Wildcats have the more dynamic shooters that are as cerebral as they are deadly when it comes to shooting the basketball from anywhere on the court.

Final Score: Crimson Tide 78 Wildcats 84 Spread: Villanova -1.0

Rhode Island Rams (7) vs. Duke Blue Devils (2)

Impressively, the Rams were able to beat the Sooners at their own game in the first round of the tournament by winning a shootout in dramatic fashion. Shooting 39.3% from three-point range, the Rams persistence when it came to shooting the basketball was refreshing for a program that struggled mightily when it came to producing offensively throughout the regular season. Although Duke’s ultimate victory over Iona was not pretty at the start of the contest, the Blue Devils eventually were able to establish their burgeoning zone defense while their guards and Marvin Bagley III provided more than enough on offense for their team to run away with the victory in the second half. While Rhode Island has the opportunistic defenders that are adept at stealing the basketball from their opponent, Duke’s abundance of elite playmakers should be more than enough for them to move on to the Sweet Sixteen.

Final Score: Rams 69 Blue Devils 77 Spread: Duke -9.5

Buffalo Bulls (13) vs. Kentucky Wildcats (5)

I don’t care if you’re a Power 5 Conference program or a relatively unknown Mid-Major team. If you can outplay the physically gifted Arizona Wildcats offensively, you deserve a tremendous amount of praise. Although you could point to the Bulls incredible accuracy from the three-point range as the catalyst for their success against the Wildcats (50%), it was actually their ability to dominate Arizona on the defensive glass that was the difference maker in this contest (24 defensive rebounds for the Bulls, 19 defensive for the Wildcats). Although Kentucky struggled mightily to run off Davidson’s perimeter shooters, they were able to get to the basket on offense consistently while making clutch free throw shots down the stretch of the game (81.3 FT%). If the Bulls can be as accurate at shooting the deep ball as they were against Arizona, the Wildcats will have a difficult time keeping up offensively as they are inconsistent at shooting from beyond the perimeter. However, Kentucky’s adeptness at rebounding the ball off of the defensive glass will give them the edge over the Bulls in the end.

Final Score: Bulls 81 Wildcats 86 Spread: Kentucky -6.0

Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (11) vs. Tennessee Volunteers (3)

As they had done throughout the regular season, the Ramblers were highly efficient both defensively and offensively in a thrilling victory over Miami. Despite being outrebounded, the Ramblers were able to hang tough as they turned the basketball over just 10 times (16 turnovers for Miami) and were unafraid to shoot from three-point range, which was the reason for their buzzer beater victory. Against Wright State, the Volunteers played to their impressive strengths by dominating the defensive glass while holding the Raiders to a minuscule to a 31.7 shooting percentage from the field. However, even more importantly, the Volunteers were able to take advantage of their opportunities from the free throw line (87.5 FT%), something that the Ramblers were abysmal at against Miami (44 FT%). Although the Ramblers possess the better shooters, the Volunteers are better at rebounding the basketball, which will be vital in what should be a gritty defensive grudge match.

Final Score: Ramblers 67 Volunteers 75 Spread: Tennessee -6.0

Seton Hall Pirates (8) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (1)

Despite averaging under 80 points per game during the regular season, the Pirates were finally able to utilize their skilled playmakers as they made 48.3% of their shots from the field. Better still, the Pirates only gave up seven turnovers against NC State, which is stunning when you consider that Seton Hall averaged 13 turnovers per game in the regular season. While the Jayhawks eventually pulled away against the Quakers in their first-round contest, it was by no means a pretty victory. Thanks to their clutch free throw shooting and rebounding dominance, the Jayhawks were able to deprive the Quakers of much-needed opportunities down the stretch of what was a surprisingly close contest. Although the Jayhawks will most likely win this contest as they have the consummate ball-facilitators, they need to be wary of a Pirates program that loves to attack the glass, which will be vital in deciding the outcome of this game.

Final Score: Pirates 77 Jayhawks 80 Spread: Kansas -4.5

Ohio State Buckeyes (5) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (4)

Although the Buckeyes victory over the Jackrabbits was closer than they probably would have liked, the fact that they were able to hold one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball to 38.1% shooting from the field is actually stunning. Even struggling to shoot the basketball themselves, the Buckeyes were still able to put up 81 points as they were able to garner themselves ample scoring opportunities by tenaciously attacking the defensive glass. While it would be easy to look at the Bulldogs close victory over UNC Greensboro and assume that they are in serious trouble, they actually overcame one of the toughest defenses in the country that is known for blocking out scorers when they attempt to shoot from three-point range. If anything, the Bulldogs close victory was indicative of how far their much-improved defense has come this season, something that will be vital against an offensively gifted program. Without a doubt, this will be an incredibly close contest with both programs attacking the glass ferociously. However, Gonzaga is just a bit better at rebounding the basketball, an advantage that will allow them to win another close game.

Final Score: Buckeyes 72 Bulldogs 74 Spread: Gonzaga -3.5

Florida Gators (6) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (3)

Offensively inconsistent throughout the regular season, the Gators still struggled to be efficient at scoring the basketball in their victory over St. Bonaventure. However, it was Florida’s oppressive defense that was on full display as they held the Bonnies to 35.4% shooting from the field while garnering 11 steals. Even more importantly though was the Gators disciplined nature when securing the basketball (nine turnovers), something that was vital in preventing the Bonnies from making a comeback in what was an entertaining contest. Although the Red Raiders struggled mightily to shoot from the perimeter (25 3P%), their exceptional play defensively proved to be enough to shut down the tenacious offense of the Lumberjacks as they held them to shooting just 38.3% from the field. While the Red Raiders have the better rebounders and are more consistent defensively, the Gators are better at protecting the basketball and will be able to focus their defensive pressure solely on preventing Texas Tech from getting to the basket.

Final Score: Gators 73 Red Raiders 68 Spread: Texas Tech -1.5

Houston Cougars (6) vs. Michigan Wolverines (3)

While the Cougars had a poor showing offensively against San Diego State, they were able to win during the waning seconds of the contest thanks to the clutch lay-up by their athletic guard in Rob Gray (39 points eight rebounds). As a team, the Cougars were able to avoid costly turnovers and continually feed their consummate playmaker in Gray, which ended up being enough for them to win. However, against the well-rounded defense of Michigan, the Cougars may have to come out with an alternate strategy if they hope to move on to the Sweet Sixteen. Holding Montana to just 32% shooting from the field, the Wolverines never allowed the Grizzlies to find open looks and were able to hold them to just 47 points as a result of their oppressive defense. Although Rob Gray is a clear difference maker and will undoubtedly make some noise in this affair, the Wolverines are far too efficient and cerebral defensively to allow the Cougars to continually feed their star playmaker.

Final Score: Cougars 66 Wolverines 70 Spread: Michigan -3.0

Butler Bulldogs (10) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2)

Although the Bulldogs were not a great defensive or rebounding program throughout the regular season, they managed to be exceptional at both in a dominant victory over Arkansas. Outrebounding the Razorbacks 45-25, the Bulldogs provided their streaky yet relentless offense with ample opportunities to score consistently. While the Boilermakers would normally have the recipe for slowing down the tenacious Bulldogs in big man Isaac Hass, the dynamic playmaker sustained a broken elbow in Purdue’s round one victory over Cal State Fullerton. Although both Vincent Edwards and Carsen Edwards are both capable defensive rebounders themselves, they do not provide the same physical post presence that Haas does offensively. In a battle of streaky offenses, the Bulldogs have the slight edge as their outside shooting capabilities combined with their newfound rebounding prowess will allow them to win a thrilling contest against Purdue.

Final Score: Bulldogs 75 Boilermakers 70 Spread: Purdue -3.5

Syracuse Orange (11) vs. Michigan State Spartans (3)

Holding two powerhouse offenses in Arizona State and TCU to under 60 points, the underrated defense of the Orange is starting to shine brightly when it matters the most. Against TCU, the Orange were highly effective at blocking out their opponents three points shooters, which allowed them to win a low scoring contest. Although the Spartans normally tough-minded defense struggled mightily to contain Bucknell’s tenacious offense in the first round, Michigan State was at least able to rectify the issues of their struggling offense as they scored 82 points against the Bison. Most notably, it was the Spartans adeptness at rebounding the basketball that allowed them to be highly productive offensively, something that has to continue if they hope to move on to the second weekend of the tournament. While the Orange’s defense is playing at an elite level, their anemic offense has held them back this year and will ultimately prevent them from overcoming a Spartans program that is capable of dominating a game on both sides of the court.

Final Score: Orange 62 Spartans 71 Spread:

Texas A&M Aggies (7) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (2)

While Texas A&M had one of the more tumultuous seasons in college basketball in terms of success this year, the resilient Aggies were able to stave off one scoring run after another against the Providence Friars in their first-round contest. Playing to their strengths, the Aggies effectively utilized their size to dominate the Friars on the boards (44-26 in favor of the Aggies) and were efficient at making the most of their opportunities when scoring near the basket (50 FG%). As the top rebounding program in college basketball this season, the Tar Heels demoralized Lipscomb in their first-round matchup as they outrebounded the Bisons 47-29. However, what was even more impressive than that was North Carolina’s athletic guards stepping up and hitting their long-range shots (40.9 3P%), something that the Tar Heels were streaky at accomplishing during the regular season. While the Aggies have the bigger bodies and much more physical playmakers, the versatility of the Tar Heels when it comes to scoring and rebounding will allow them to eventually overwhelm the one-dimensional athletes of Texas A&M.

Final Score: Aggies 77 Tar Heels 86 Spread: North Carolina -6.0

Nevada Wolf Pack (7) vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (2)

After being down by double-digits throughout most of their contest against the Texas Longhorns, the Wolf Pack were able to make several clutch three-point shots in overtime to persevere in the first round of the tournament. Shooting 50.8% from the field, the Wolf Pack stayed true to their competitive style of moving the ball to their open shooters and making high-percentage shots from a variety of areas on the court. Conversely, the Bearcats had to grind out what was eventually a comfortable win over Georgia State by ferociously attacking the glass (outrebounded the Panthers 46-26) while being disciplined in not fouling the Panthers constantly (Panthers shot just three free throws). Defensively, the Bearcats were fantastic at guarding the perimeter as the Panthers were only able to make 29.6% of their three-point shots. In a matchup of two polar opposite programs in terms of competitive styles, I like the Bearcats to ultimately take advantage of a Wolf Pack program that can be a bit hasty and streaky when taking and making long-range shots.

Final Score: Wolf Pack 69 Bearcats 73 Spread: Cincinnati -7.0

Clemson Tigers (5) vs. Auburn Tigers (4)

Going up against one of the most efficient defenses in college basketball, Clemson was surprisingly able to score 79 points while shooting 55.9% from the field. On top of that, Clemson was incredibly disciplined at securing the basketball as they only gave the ball away eight times, which was vital in allowing them to win their first-round contest fairly comfortably. Unlike Clemson, Auburn looked lost offensively in their ugly win over Charleston as they shot just 35.6% from the field and turned the ball over 12 times. Interestingly, it was Auburn’s tenacious defense that saved the day as they recorded 10 steals while Charleston’s offense turned the ball over 21 times. Against Clemson, Auburn cannot expect to reap the same type of benefits as they did against Charleston. Considering how strong Clemson is at rebounding and defending the basketball, Auburn’s only hope of moving on to the Sweet Sixteen is to make more than half their shots, something that they have struggled mightily to do recently.

Final Score: Clemson 77 Auburn 67 Spread:

UMBC Retrievers (16) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (9)

Not only did the Retrievers become the first 16 seed to upset a one seed in NCAA Tournament history, they did so in a dominant fashion as they crushed the Cavaliers by a score of 74-54. Abusing the Cavaliers when it came to rebounding (outrebounded Virginia 33-22) the basketball, the Retrievers were able to convert those extra opportunities into multiple scores on offense thanks to their cerebral ball sharing abilities (16 assists). Although the Wildcats victory over Creighton was not nearly as impressive by comparison, they were able to stifle a prolific offense in Creighton by outshooting them from three-point range while preventing the Blue Jays from making those same long-range shots. More importantly, it was the Wildcats discipline when it came to not recklessly fouling the Blue Jays that allowed them to win down the stretch despite scoring just 69 points. While the success story of the Retrievers is legendary, the Wildcats oppressive defense combined with their patience on offense will allow them to extinguish the confidence of UMBC in the second round.

Final Score: Retrievers 63 Wildcats 75 Spread:

Florida State Seminoles (9) vs. Xavier Musketeers (1)

Although Missouri was able to hold their own when it came to rebounding the basketball, they were unable to get their offense going against a Seminoles program that was much more fluid in that regard from the opening tip-off. Recording 18 assists while shooting 46.7% from three points range, the Seminoles intelligently bided their time until open scoring opportunities presented themselves. Unsurprisingly, Xavier’s dreadful defense barely held up against Texas Southern, but the Musketeers were able to overcome this deficiency by making 54.7% of their shots from the field while garnering 32 defensive rebounds against the Tigers. Strangely, despite giving up 83 points, the Musketeers recorded 10 blocks against Texas Southern, an interesting stat that will most likely not be repeatable against the much more sizeable athletes of the Seminoles. While I do like the exceptional shooters of the Musketeers to ultimately win this affair, their lack of a decent defense could put them in a dire situation going forward if their offense goes cold at some point during the tournament.

Final Score: Seminoles 81 Musketeers 89 Spread:

Marshall Thundering Herd (13) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (5)

Going shot for shot with one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball, the Thundering Herd’s confidence never wavered as they were able to make several clutch three points shots and an emphatic dunk down the stretch to send the devastated Shockers back to Wichita. Turning the ball over just nine times, the Thundering Herd were able to cover up their issues defensively by being disciplined and patient when finding their open shooters. In a blow out victory over Murray State, the Mountaineers were able to intimidate the Racers with their full court press as they garnered 9 steals while holding their opponent to shooting just 30.4% from three-point range. Offensively, West Virginia made the most of their opportunities near the basket as they shot 51.6% from the field while scoring 85 points in the contest. While the relentless shooters of Marshall could befuddle the Mountaineers defense initially, West Virginia’s commitment to trapping and garnering steals will eventually stifle the Thundering Herd down the stretch.

Final Score: Thundering Herd 74 Mountaineers 80 Spread:

Thomas Phelan, a firefighter known for his efforts evacuating hundreds of people from Lower Manhattan during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, has died at the age of 45. Having helped with one of the biggest evacuations in New York City history, it is believed that his heroic actions actually contributed to his passing.

What happened?

Although Phelan is believed to have died on Friday, March 16, 2018, news of his death did not come to light until the following Sunday.

According to New York Daily News, Phelan worked as a Statue of Liberty ferry captain during the time of the 9/11 attack. During the time when two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center, thousands of people were stranded. At the time, Phelan turned his tour boat into a rescue vessel, helping people to evacuate, considered one of the largest evacuations in New York City history. He later joined the FDNY in May 2003, was assigned to Engine Co. 55, and was later promoted to marine patrol and transferred to Marine 9 in Staten Island.

A friend, John Feal, offered the following statement of condolences on Facebook:

“Another Hero lost! FF Thomas Phelan FDNY Marine 9 passed from his Devil induced 9/11 cancer. Tommy was a Captain for Statue Cruises on 9/11/01 and was part of the largest evacuation in the history of our nation, as Thomas and hundreds of other boats and vessels helped evacuate hundreds of thousands off Manhattan Island to safety. Thomas was a superior athlete, and fought the Devil (9/11 cancer) and it’s Toxic Demons (The Aftermath) better then any average man, and Thomas took the Devil 15 rounds.”

“And while 9/11 Devil might have taken Thomas from his family & friends, you can bet Devil did not come out of this unscathed. Tommy joins the “The BEST of the BEST” on September 15th at 10am, when his name is read aloud followed by the ringing of the bell to remind all in attendance that they witnessed perfection once in their life. FF Thomas Phelan FDNY is now with God’s Army of Angels and he no longer suffers, he no longer needs Doctors and Nurses, and he can live in peace surrounded by love! Rest easy Thomas!”

What was Thomas Phelan’s official cause of death?

According to New York Daily News, it is believed at this time that Phelan died of cancer, which was possibly related to his exposure to the toxic fumes swirling around Ground Zero, as confirmed by friends and officials.

Hours after Austin police asked the person or people behind a recent string of bombs that have impacted the city, reports have come out of two more, possible bombings, with reports suggesting that tow other males have been injured by the incident and have since been taken to a local hospital. The Austin-Travis County EMS also revealed on social media that they were responding to two unconfirmed incidents in the southwest Austin area.

What happened?

On their official Twitter account, the Austin-Travis County EMS issued the following statements:

“Multiple assets on a reported second explosion 4800 block Dawn Song Dr (2032) reports of 2 patients. Investigation if this is the same incident as already reported or a separate incident underway. More information to be provided when available.”

“UPDATE: Explosion incident at 4721 Eagle Feather Dr; Multiple #ATCEMS assets are staging to possibly 2 separate incidents in the area. At this incident, 2 patients have been identified and are prepping those patients for transport. More to Follow…”

“Critical Incident @ 4800blk Dawn Song Dr (correct incident address), Only 1 incident location has been confirmed. #ATCEMSMedics have transported X2 ~20’s Males to SAMC w/serious, but not expected to be life-threatening injuries. Refer all inquires to @Austin_Police”

The account also retweeted a message from the Austin Police Department’s official Twitter account:

“Residents near the area of 8400 block of Dawn Song Dr., within a few blocks/streets, please stay in your homes until you hear otherwise. Thank you, APD PIO”

There have already been two bomb-related deaths in Austin over the past weeks

At this time, it is believed that police are telling residents in the area as telling people to stay inside. As mentioned above, there have already been at least three reports of bombings in Austin, Texas, over the past few weeks, as well as a bombing threat in the area the day before, which have already left two dead and three injured.

At this time, it is unknown if the recent two incidents are related to the previous bombings over the recent weeks. The motive for the bombings is also unknown at this time.

The incident notably came out hours after Austin police asked the person or people behind the bombings to come forward; according to New York Daily News, Austin Interim Police Chief Brian Manley issued the following statement at a press conference:

“We hope this person or persons is watching. We hope you will reach out to us before anyone else is injured or anyone else is killed out of this event.”

As this is a developing story, more information will be updated as made available.

How to Become a College Celebrity Thanks to a Website Made in One Day

Have you ever wanted to delve even deeper into the college life? Have you considered the idea of gathering all your friends, lecturers, sports coaches, and parents under one roof? Can you see yourself in the role of an ambassador for the most vivid and significant events in the life of your college or university? If YES is your answer, all you really need to do is to create a website for students – and make it so awesome that your peers drop their jaws in excitement.

This guide will teach you how to design a college website.

Why making a college website anyway?

The Internet and social media have taken communication to the entirely new level. Social networks like Facebook allow you to create and join groups that unite people around shared interests, backgrounds, and goals. However, the possibilities they offer are quite limited. A comprehensive college website, on the other hand, gives a freedom needed to turn a simple group of individuals who share the passion for their alma mater into a sprawling online community capable of representing a college or university online on its own terms. Among the essential benefits to consider:

  • Flexible privacy settings;
  • Multiple monetization options;
  • Total searchability on the Internet;
  • Customized, fully individual design;
  • Possibility to share different kinds of content (photos, videos, music) and run an independent blog.

With all these possibilities at hand, you can use your website to share the latest college news, encourage communication and cooperation between students, teachers, and parents, organize online and real-life events, share useful study materials, publish curricula, timetables, grades, etc.

You can even design your own sports website for the college team you play in or support. Creating a sports website is a great way to increase the efficiency of team management, facilitate communication between players, and improve the team’s image.

In other words, if you’re a student, creating a college website is a chance for you to become an essential part of the studying community, earn an outstanding reputation among your peers, and even make some extra cash.

A recipe for an awesome college website

Many used to think that creating a website is something only professional programmers and computer geeks can do. The truth is, in order to make a cool website you don’t need to know a thing about coding. All you need is a couple of like-minded friends, few days to get things up and running, and functional website-building software.

Today’s market offers plenty of website builders, but only a few of them are capable of providing enough networking features to suffice for a college website you’d be proud of. This is exactly what makes NING your preferred choice when it comes to building social networking websites.

Obviously, when you’re designing a college website, you want it to be as interactive and socially-oriented as possible. Being a platform specializing particularly in making lively online communities, NING appears to be the most suitable candidate for a role of the best college website builder at this point in time. Its essential advantages include:

  • The abundance of social networking features and communication options including private and group messaging, email broadcasting, live chat, etc.;
  • Simple interface that allows non-tech-savvy users to build professional websites with minimum time investments;
  • Lots of easy-to-use tools required for an advanced customization of your website design;
  • Several options to build a successful monetization strategy.

Besides, getting started with NING is very easy. The basic steps are described below.

  1. Create an account on ning.com and take a free 14-day trial

Since NING offers a free trial of its website building platform, you can check it out before you make any investments. This is a great opportunity to create a website absolutely free of charge and have a hands-on experience with NING’s trademark features.

The registration process is fairly simple and shouldn’t cause any inconveniences. You will, however, be asked to select the subscription plan at the outset and provide the details of your credit card. But the money will only be charged in 14 days, when the free trial period expires, unless you cancel the subscription.

The basic monthly fee is $25 which roughly equals the price of two movie tickets and a couple of lattes (you’ll probably spend the same amount going out with your girlfriend one night) – not anything overwhelming considering the value of the package you get. To find out what exactly you can expect for your money, check out their pricing page.

It is also worth mentioning that a native domain name (.ning.com) and hosting services are already included in the subscription plan, and you use them during the free trial as well.

A little lifehack to alleviate the burden from your wallet: NING offers several monetization options so you can try to make enough money for the annual subscription even before the free trial expires. How to monetize a website so quickly? For example, set up a “Donate” button on the homepage of your newly created website. If you have many friends or know enough people who are likely to support your initiative, you’ll collect the required amount in no time.

  1. Customize the design of your website

As soon as your website is created, you can proceed with its customization. NING provides users with numerous tools allowing to endow your website with a distinctive identity.

Select the most suitable website template and adjust its elements the way you see fit. You can add your college logo, change the background image, fonts, page layout, header design, etc. In a matter of minutes, the appearance of your website will be fully personalized and look truly professional.

  1. Set up the features you would like to use

NING offers a variety of features you will find useful for your new website: several messaging options, integration with social networks and 3rd party online services, forums, polls, blogs, groups, events, SEO, etc. Pick any of these and configure them on your website. Add as many web pages as you need and start filling them up with content. Here you go – your website is ready!

  1. Consider different ways of monetization

This step is purely optional and makes sense if you want your website to bring profits among other benefits. With NING, you can monetize your website in several ways:

  • Donations;
  • Paid Access;
  • Paid Membership;
  • Online Ads (via Google AdSense).

If you post a lot of useful articles or let other students publish news or blog posts about the life of the college, your website will inevitably start gaining popularity among your peers. This will open new opportunities for online advertisement or content monetization. For example, you can think of the ways to monetize a blog or set up paid access to specific groups on the network. The choice is all yours.

Conclusion

Creating a college website is a great way to engage in a college life, establish an authority among other peers, and even earn some extra money. Thanks to the advanced website building software like NING, designing a website is no longer a problem. All you really need is a little bit of free time, enthusiasm, and maybe a couple of friends to help you out. And of course, the picture wouldn’t be complete without a whiff of inspiration, few interesting ideas, and a clear artistic vision – nothing that should be a problem for you, right?

Sigma Phi Epsilon Brothers At University Of Memphis In Trouble For Singing “N***as In Paris”

The Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Memphis is facing backlash after they were accused of using a racial slur during a *KARAOKE* performance at a philanthropy event on Friday, March 16.

According to reports, during an event known as Pi Phi Karaoke, members of the Sigma Phil Epsilon fraternity said the n-word while rapping the song “N***as in Paris” by Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Pi Phi Karaoke raises money for children’s literacy.

“The song that they used was n-word in Paris. That’s actually the name of the song,” Jessika Williams told Fox 19.

via Fox 19:

Williams was offended and said she’s upset the song choice was approved. She said her sorority requires performances be thoroughly vetted by the university before given clearance.

“We don’t allow cursing during our performances, and we do not use the n-word on stage, so for a predominantly white organization or any organization period to use the n-word, it was very disrespectful and very inconsiderate,” Williams said.

“No it wasn’t the most graceful thing to do but I don’t think it’s for say wrong,” a U of M student, who did not want to be identified, said. “It would’ve been better, yes, if they didn’t do it at all, but they were just trying to have fun and there was no ill intent or harsh racism to it, so it shouldn’t be harshly punished.”

Jerica Phillips stopped by the Sigma Phi Epsilon house on Sunday to get their reaction. Eventually, a member of the fraternity opened an upstairs window and said the organization didn’t have a comment about the matter.

The University of Memphis also released a statement regarding the incident:

The University of Memphis was made aware of allegations involving racial and bigoted language exhibited by a fraternity member at a student event. Racism and bigotry will not be tolerated. All allegations are currently being thoroughly investigated, and if found to be accurate, immediate steps will be taken to address the behavior with the individual, local chapter and national organization. The University of Memphis takes seriously all such behavior and has the strongest of commitments to continuing efforts to educate our campus community.

University of Memphis students plan to hold a silent protest on campus from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. today, Monday, March 19, because they sadly have nothing better to do than protest a bunch of frat bros singing the words to a Kanye West song. What a world.

Furthermore, there will be a “campus reflection and community conversation” hosted by the Student Leadership and Involvement office at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19.

Yahaira Nieves, a 23-year-old former teacher’s aide at Cedar Crest High School in Pennsylvania, has been accused of having sexual contact with a student.

Nieves, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, has been charged with a felony count of institutional sexual assault. She was arraigned on Friday, March 16 and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

According to reports, Nieves allegedly admitted to kissing and performing oral sex on the victim when interviewed by police. The unidentified victim said he and Nieves met outside the school on three occasions in December 2017, and during the last meeting, Nieves allegedly performed oral sex on the victim in his home.

via ABC 27:

The Lebanon County Detective Bureau said Nieves and the 18-year-old male student began passing non-school related notes and emails in October. In December, Nieves met with the student three times outside of school for non-school related activities.

The third meeting occurred over the holiday break at a private residence. During that meeting, Nieves and the student kissed and engaged in sexual relations, the detective bureau said in a news release.

The Cornwall-Lebanon School District said Nieves was suspended and police were contacted when they learned of the allegations on Jan. 31. Nieves was fired at a Feb. 12 school board meeting, following an internal investigation.

She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on March 29.

Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

In addition, 31-year-old Nicole Marie Andrews, 32-year-old Jessica Langford, 29-year-old Andrea Baber, 27-year-old Robin Dunlap, 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro have also been charged with these charges.

42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Susan Sarandon: Hottest Photos On The Internet

Susan Sarandon is a rare breed of woman with a beauty that has defied time itself. By looking at her, most wouldn’t expect her age to be 71. She proves that a lady can still be smokin’ hot in her seventies…well, at least when you’re Susan Sarandon.

But how does she look so freakin’ good in her early seventies? Sarandon told Vogue, “The secret – I mean, honestly, I think staying engaged and staying curious and having a good time is really a lot of it. And not smoking is really important. I think that staying hydrated and not doing anything too extreme, too… Also I’m not really a drinker. I think a little bit of wine in moderation is probably good, but I think really if you drink heavily it’s not great. But I guess good genes. I thank my mother.”

She also underwent breast-enhancement surgery at the age of 70, proving you’re never too old to get a boob job (maybe). Somehow, Sarandon is able to sustain her status as a sex symbol even in her seventies (now say that seven times fast). Though it’s really no secret why she is turning so many heads, even at her age.

Sarandon has had a very prolific career in Hollywood, appearing in at least 83 movies and winning numerous awards. She has won an Academy Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award, as well as five Critics Awards.

Most recently, the 71-year-old actress appeared as a guest commentator during a hockey game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers last Wednesday. Her contributions primarily consisted of her saying “Ooh!” after a player attempts to score. (Giggity). Unfortunately for Ms. Sarandon, her voice-work didn’t go over well with many Hockey fans on Twitter (to say the least).

“Turned on Rangers-Penguins game. Heard Susan Sarandon talking, Turned off Rangers-Penguins game. Thanks #NBCSportsHockey #LetsGoRangers,” wrote one displeased fan by the name of @CarlAdamec.

I guess hockey isn’t Sarandon’s strong suit despite her noteworthy career in narration work. She has lent her voice to many other projects in the past, narrating over 20 documentaries, including This Is What Democracy Looks Like (2000), The Nazi Officer’s Wife (2003), A Whale In Montana (2005), and more.

Now, look up at the gallery and get an eyeful of a g-milf like no other. Like wine, Susan Sarandon only seems to get better with age. Though the gallery shows Sarandon at several different periods of her life. See her as a young lady or as an older woman who’s simply busting through the screen.

How you doin’? Wendy Williams is a media personality that has worn many hats; best known for hosting her own television show, she has also been an actress, a writer, and even a decorated former radio personality. Let’s take a look at her career over the years, starting with her net worth!

Wendy Williams Net Worth: $60 Million

Wendy Williams’ net worth is estimated to be around $60 million. Let’s take a look at her career over the years just to see how she came so far.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Williams was born and raised in Ocean Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, going on to attend Ocean Township High School and Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating with a B.A. in communications, also working as a college radio DJ, a role that would reflect the early stages of her career. Williams had her first professional job in radio while working for WVIS in the United States Virgin Islands. Less than a year later, she switched to the Washington, D.C.-based station WOL, having to commute from Queens, New York, where she also worked a midnight shift at WQHT.

1989-2000

Instagram Photo

In 1989, Williams worked at WRKS in New York City, initially as a substitute disc jockey, but eventually proved herself enough to be hired full-time for the station’s morning show. For her work, in 1993, she won the Billboard Award for “Best On-Air Radio Personality.” Leaving the station in 1998, Williams was hired by WUSL, a station based in Philadelphia, with her husband, Kevin Hunter, serving as her agent.

2001-2009

In 2001, Williams made her return to New York when she was hired full-time by WBLS. By 2008, she eventually became syndicated throughout the United States, from California to Louisiana. For her efforts, she was eventually conducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. However, by 2009, she left the station to focus on a new avenue: television, having been offered her own talk show on television in the summer of 2008. Within the following years, the show was picked up by Fox and BET, helping to air the show, not only throughout the country but also internationally.

2011-2017

Instagram Photo

In 2011, she flirted with an acting career, appearing in the soap opera, One Life to Live. and the Steve Harvey film, Think Like a Man, the following year, as well as its 2014 sequel. Around this time, she even became a game show host for GNS, in a show called Love Triangle, where she also served as an executive producer. In 2015, she also hosted the documentary series Death By Gossip with Wendy Williams. Breaking into the world of fashion design, she also developed a line of clothing for everyday women in a partnership with the Home Shopping Network; partnering with QVC, she also developed her own line of jewelry line called Adorn.

2018-Present

All the while, Williams has continuously hosted her talk show, only missing a show in February 2018, announcing it would go on hiatus due to health-related issues. By late March, she announced that she would be returning to the show.

In a statement with People, Williams said issued the following statement on her health:

“I feel a hundred percent better than I was a few months ago. I had a storm going in my body is the best way I can explain it…”

Stewie Griffin Doesn’t Actually Have A British Accent & Everything You Know Is A Lie

Here’s how old Family Guy is at this point: the first time I ever saw the show, it was on a portable DVD player (remember those?!) when I was in like the fourth grade. That was about 15 years ago, and yet, despite what most original fans may consider a dropoff in quality, the show is still going as strong as ever.

I personally haven’t watched an episode in years, and normally, I wouldn’t bother writing an article about it. But *this* one caught my eye. Why? Because anyone who is about the same age as me will remember the glory days of Family Guys and they will remember Stewie being one of the main parts of their early success.

So now, to find out almost 20 YEARS after the show first premiered (the pilot aired on January 31, 1999) that Stewie has actually been faking it all this time … it feels like a betrayal. It feels like everything I thought I knew and once loved about Stewie and Family Guy is a lie.

via Uproxx:

As we learned in last night’s commercial-free episode — “Send In Stewie, Please,” which had Stewie discuss his sexuality with child psychologist Dr. Cecil Pritchfield (Sir Ian McKellen) — that’s not his real voice. This may come as a surprise, but the Rhode Island-born child doesn’t sound like he’s auditioning for Macbeth. He sounds like, well, his father’s son.

I didn’t know if Seth would go for it,” said writer Gary Janetti. “[But] when he read it, it was hilarious, because he instantly read that voice that he does in the episode, which is this normal kid voice, and it’s very disarming. It felt very true. I didn’t want to do anything unless it felt true to the character because I’m very protective over him. Like all kids can, when you feel like you’re an outcast, and you feel like you don’t fit in any place, you construct a bit of a façade to protect yourself from the world. His is just extraordinarily sophisticated. What would that mean if he felt like he could release it and be more authentic — and himself?”

While many people expected the episode to feature Stewie coming out, his sexuality was left as a question mark (even though, I mean, come on).

How much of Family Guy‘s past are they going to tear down in order to keep limping on into the future? Only time will tell.

Nevada Basketball Coach Eric Musselman Is Winning On & Off The Court

Of all the many March Madness storylines from the deliriously entertaining first weekend of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, one of the most exciting is the story of Eric Musselman & the Nevada Wolfpack.

Nevada, a seven-seed, have had a hell of a run getting to the Sweet 16: they came back from 14 points down against Texas, leading to the epic, F-bomb laden post-game speech from Musselman:

Then, two nights later, Musselman’s Nevada men clawed back from a 22-point deficit to defeat the #2 seed Cincinnati Bearcats to march on to the Sweet 16.

But not only is Musselman winning on the court, he’s apparently crushing it off the court as well, as his wife Danyelle Sargent is a National Champion in her own right.

Sargent, who has a successful career as a sports television reporter, graduated from Florida State University before beginning her television career at WGXA, in Macon, Georgia. Following her time at WGXA, Sargent was hired in 2004 by ESPN, contributed to ESPN2’s Cold Pizza,  (which is now First Take). Sargent left ESPN when her contract expired in the Fall of 2006. In 2005 and 2006, she served as co-emcee of the NCAA Woman of the Year Awards. In 2010, Sargent and Musselman gave birth to a daughter, Mariah.

So, given that my (and likely your) entire bracket is busted, I’m going to be a Nevada Wolfpack fan from here on out.

Upsets galore. Such was the case during the first weekend of March Madness as none of the top-ranked programs were safe. With Virginia and Xavier already heading home, only Villanova and Kansas remain as the top seeds still in the tournament. While glorious and jaw-dropping upsets have always been a prevalent and coveted aspect of watching the NCAA Tournament, it is the sheer number of underrated programs winning emphatically combined with their last-second victories that have truly made this postseason affair especially entertaining. Feasibly, all of the top seeds in the tournament could be gone before the Final Four commences next week, which is something that has rarely occurred in the history of the tournament. Regardless of which programs ultimately make it to the final game of March Madness, you can certainly expect there to be at least a couple of more intense contests that see the underdogs move one step closer to making it to the final week of the tournament.

Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (11) vs. Nevada Wolf Pack (7)

Efficient on both offense and defense in their second-round victory against the Tennessee Volunteers, the Ramblers were able to win another close game to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Shooting 50% from the field, the Ramblers once again bided their time when finding their open shots on the floor, which was vital in preventing the Volunteers from making a comeback down the stretch. Down 22 points to one of the toughest defenses in the country in Cincinnati, the Wolf Pack were able to persevere in the second half thanks to their efficiency when shooting from the field (49.2 FG%) while turning the ball over just two times during the entire contest. While the Ramblers may not be the most prolific scoring team in the tournament, their intelligence when it comes to playing both offense and defense will allow them to defeat another higher seeded opponent to advance to their first Elite Eight in school history.

Final Score: Ramblers 70 Wolf Pack 67 Spread: Nevada -2.5

Texas A&M Aggies (7) vs. Michigan Wolverines (3)

Shutting down a relentless offensive program is one thing. However, when a team is able to outrebound and outscore an opponent that is exceptional at both, it’s hard not to take notice. Outrebounding the Tar Heels 50-36, the Aggies were able to beat the Tar Heel at their own game while North Carolina shot an abysmal 33.3% from the field, which is a testament to how physically imposing the Aggies were defensively throughout the contest. Although Michigan needed a buzzer beater shot to win a thrilling matchup against Houston in the second round, the Wolverines played to their strengths by preventing the Cougars from finding open shots while being disciplined with the basketball (seven turnovers against Houston). While the Aggies have the size to test the Wolverines aggressive inside shooters, they lack the strong perimeter shooters to test what is a dynamically gifted defense in Michigan.

Final Score: Aggies 72 Wolverines 74 Spread: Michigan -3.0

Kansas State Wildcats (9) vs. Kentucky Wildcats (5)

Despite scoring under 70 points against Creighton and UMBC, Kansas State’s formidable defense did more than enough to overcome their first two opponents in the NCAA Tournament. Holding the Retrievers to 29.8% shooting from the field, Kansas State relentlessly attacked the defensive glass, preventing the opportunistic Retrievers from getting their somewhat potent offense going. Against Buffalo in the second round, Kentucky’s streaky offense exploded as they shot a mind-boggling 56.3% from the field while dominating the defense glass to stifle the elite offense of the Bulls. While Kansas State’s tenacious defense will give Kentucky some issues when getting to the basket, they can hardly expect to slow down the burgeoning shooters that are starting to hit their stride at the right time.

Final Score: Kansas State 68 Wildcats 76 Spread: Kentucky -6.0

Florida State Seminoles (9) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (4)

Taking the lead with less than two minutes left in the game, the Seminoles did what Xavier is usually adept at doing: hitting clutch perimeter shots. However, it was the opportunistic defense of the Seminoles that allowed them to hold the elite offense of Xavier to just 70 points as they garnered 10 steals and blocked four shots to seal what was an impressive victory against a top-seeded program. Although Gonzaga’s defense was abused against Ohio State, the Bulldogs still managed to overcome their lapse in this regard thanks to their highly efficient offense (53.4 FG%). Better still, the Bulldogs were able to hit 81.3% of their free throw shots, which allowed them to pull away from a Buckeyes team that was relentless in finding ways to get to the basket. While the Seminoles have the clear rebounding advantage in this matchup, Gonzaga possesses the more prolific shooters and disciplined athletes that are adept at securing the basketball.

Final Score: Seminoles 76 Bulldogs 81 Spread: Gonzaga -5.5

Clemson Tigers (5) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (1)

Blowing out one of the most gifted offenses in college basketball in Auburn, Clemson seemingly did everything right from a competitive standpoint as they garnered 41 defensive rebounds and held their opponent to an awful shooting percentage of 25.8%. While Clemson has not been known for their scoring capabilities this season, their potent rebounders coupled with their dynamic defense has allowed this inspired program to excel consistently. While Kansas’ offense has been nothing short of fantastic in the tournament thus far, it has been their wavering play defensively that has almost knocked them out of the tournament twice. Getting outrebounded 39 to 32 against Seton Hall, the Jayhawks were fortunate to escape with a victory as they were reliant on their clutch shooters to avoid being upset. Even though Kansas has the better athletes and a superior offense, the Tigers are incredibly effective at rebounding the basketball and playing defense, two attributes that will make it difficult for the Jayhawks to win down the stretch for the third time in March Madness.

Final Score: Tigers 78 Jayhawks 72 Spread: Kansas -4.0

West Virginia Mountaineers (5) vs. Villanova Wildcats (1)

Although the full court press defense of the Mountaineers may not be as intimidating as it has been in years past, their gifted offense has been able to effectively cover up the aforementioned blemish as they destroyed Marshall in the second round by hitting 48% of their shots from outside the perimeter. Almost as impressive as their offense has been in the tournament is the physical rebounders of the Mountaineers who are especially strong at playing the defensive glass. While the Wildcats struggled to score in the first half of their game against the Crimson Tide, they came out on fire in the second half as Miles Bridges and Jalen Brunson was supremely accurate at hitting their three-point shots (combined to shoot 8-14 from three-point range). Even though the Wildcats are almost always exceptional at hitting perimeter shots, they can hardly rely on this skill to slow down a Mountaineers team that has the tough-minded athletes and scorers to overcome the sharpshooters of Villanova.

Final Score: Mountaineers 84 Wildcats 78 Spread: Villanova -5.5

Syracuse Orange (11) vs. Duke Blue Devils (2)

Holding all three of opponents they have faced in the tournament to under 60 points (ASU, TCU and Michigan State all averaged over 80 points per game during the regular season), the Orange have executed their 2-3 zone defense to perfection thus far in NCAA Tournament. Despite being fairly dreadful at scoring the basketball, the Orange have always found a way to score clutch baskets during the waning seconds of every contest they have played in during the postseason. Taking a page out of the playbook of Syracuse, the Blue Devils utilized their size to lockdown the smaller athletes of the Rams in a blowout win in the second round with their exceptional zone defense. Offensively, Duke bombarded the Rams from the perimeter (47.6 3P%) while allowing their bigger playmakers to attack the rim tenaciously (56.9 FG%). While the top tier defense of the Orange should not be taken lightly, their lack of a dominant scorer will be to their detriment against a Duke team that has looked impenetrable on defense and unstoppable on offense.

Final Score: Orange 66 Blue Devils 75 Spread: Duke -11.5

Texas Tech Red Raiders (3) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2)

Despite their issues when it comes to scoring the basketball, the resilient defense of the Red Raiders stepped up in a big way as they blocked nine shots and held the scrappy offense of the Gators to just 66 points. However, even more importantly, the Red Raiders turned the ball over just eight times, which was vital in preventing the prolific scoring guards of the Gators from making a comeback. Even without Isaac Hass, the Boilermakers were still able to hold off the adept scorers of Butler as they were able to make most of the shots they attempted from the field. While guard Carsen Edwards has to be much more careful when it comes to committing reckless fouls, the versatile playmaker has what it takes to lead his team to a Final Four on both offense and defense. Even though the Red Raiders defense has been sensational thus far, their lack of a dominant scorer will prevent them from keeping up with a Boilermakers team that has enough offensively skilled assets to win tight games.

Final Score: Red Raiders 71 Boilermakers 74 Spread: Purdue -1.5
