With teams beginning to clinch their spots in the fight for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the questions of who has the best chance of winning the Cup later this spring is a hot topic. There are the favorites. There are the possible contenders. And then there are the underdogs. The best thing about sports and the playoff nature is anything can happen, and that bodes the same in the fight for the Stanley Cup. Let’s take a peek at the odds for each team that is represented in the NHL postseason.

After missing the playoffs a year ago, just by a mere two points, the Lightning has been on a mission from training camp to get back to the postseason and challenge for the Stanley Cup. The Bolts have owned the Eastern Conference and their roster has been the deepest in all facets (offense, defense, goaltending, depth).

Arguably their best player, Nikita Kucherov, has led the league in points since the season began and could win his first Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded to the Most Valuable Player in the league. Aside to Kucherov, there’s this other known guy who is a superstar, Steven Stamkos. Stamkos and Kucherov have played at an insane level and are the best 1-2 punch in the NHL.

Jon Cooper’s sextet has received excellent seasons from defensemen Victor Hedman and rookie Mikhail Sergachev, standout forwards Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde, and from goalie Andei Vasilevskiy. Adding extra firepower at the deadline with J.T. Miller and Ryan McDonagh shows the Bolts are all in to bring Lord Stanley back to Tampa for the first time since 2003-04.

Nashville Predators

The Predators made it to the sixth game of the Stanley Cup Finals last spring and fell just short of forcing a game seven. That heartbreak has fueled them throughout the 2017-18 season. Nashville has been at the top or near the top of the Western Conference all season long, right there with the Golden Knights and Jets (who will get to in a bit).

Peter Laviolette has done another terrific job behind the bench, while talent-wise, the Preds have been just better than their competition. The balanced offense Nashville showcases with Viktor Arvidsson, Filip Forsberg, and Kevin Fiala along with their hard-nosed bottom-six seems to always allow the team to stay in games, while when they’re on their game, give opponents problems on a nightly basis. Nashville’s defense, for the second season in a row, is the best in the league. Superstar P.K. Subban and Roman Josi are two of the top-five blueliners in the sport and as a pairing, are the standard.

Netminder Pekka Rinne has enjoyed another Vezina-worthy season and there’s no doubt, he’s prime for another shot at a Stanley Cup. Smashville — the Preds home-ice advantage that made waves in last year’s postseason — will be rocking once again for another Cup run and possibly the first championship in the history of the franchise.

Vegas Golden Knights

There’s been no better story in sports than the rise of the expansion Golden Knights. Already the most successful first-year franchise in NHL history, the Knights will bring playoff hockey to Sin City and it will be a glorious sight. From the onset, it was easy to spot there was something special with Vegas, and not just how their home rink, T Mobile Arena, made every home game have a playoff-like feel to it.

The Knights — under Gerard Gallant — have been one of the most fun clubs to watch all year. James Neal, Jonathan Marchessault, Erik Haula and the rest of the bunch play fast, play with tenacity, and make their opponents gain every inch. Their prolific goal-scorer, Wiliam Karlsson, came out of nowhere and quickly established himself as one of the most lethal goalscorers in the NHL. If you look at their defense, there are not many marquee names. Yet, that defense is young, talented, and one of the most talked about groups by coaches and pundits.

One place the Knights could benefit in the postseason: goaltending. Marc Andre-Fleury is a three-time Cup winner and knows the grind and mental toll it takes to win. His experience could do wonders for an inexperienced Knights squad, who could be a little stunned by the spotlight. Other than that aspect, the Golden Knights are going to be hella fun to watch, and have just as much a chance as the other playoff-bound clubs.

Boston Bruins

Tell me if you’ve heard this before, the Bruins are contenders for the Stanley Cup. That statement doesn’t seem that surprising anymore with how this decade the B’s have been one of the most successful teams in the NHL. This season, as soon as everyone thought they were headed for a rebuild, they flipped the switch and haven’t turned it off.

Boston’s group has everything you want for a team looking for their first Cup in seven years. Led by the brilliant Patrice Bergeron, the B’s offense can play any game and be successful doing it. Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak are a deadly combo, while the rest of the forwards are big and imposing, and can wear down opponents. Boston’s defense is still anchored by captain Zdeno Chara. But rookie Charlie McAvoy is extremely good and is transitioning to that spot.

Behind McAvoy, Torey Krug, Matt Grzelcyk, Kevan Miller and Nick Holden can be relied upon to play heavy minutes. The B’s might be the biggest threat to the Penguins three-peat in the East. They will be a tough out and could go very deep if everything falls right.

Winnipeg Jets

Ah, the Jets. They’ve only made the playoffs once since moving back to Winnipeg (2014-15), but this spring looked prime to finally make some noise and hopefully play into late May, early June. The Jets have steamrolled their way to the top of the Western Conference after a very shaky start to the 2017-18 season.

Winnipeg boasts the most prolific top-six in the National Hockey League. Sophmore Patrik Laine is already in the upper-echelon of goalscorers with the likes of Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin. But Laine is just one piece. The Jets have gotten fantastic production from the most underrated forward in the game, Blake Wheeler, and veterans Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Bryan Little. Freshman Kyle Connor’s rookie campaign has flown under the radar as well. The addition of Paul Stastny was a smart acquisition and adds even more depth.

Defensively, the Jets mix of vets and youngsters has provided a good nucleus. Coach Paul Maurice’s troops will have something to prove this postseason. With how much MTS Centre has provided an edge for the Jets, not going far in the playoffs would be a massive disappointment.

Toronto Maple Leafs

It seems the Toronto Maple Leafs were destined to make the playoffs this year. They’ve basically clung to that third slot in the Atlantic Division, with very little push from the rest of the division. The gist with the Leafs is that they got their first taste back in the playoffs out of the way last April, and now they have the pieces ready to go deeper and do some significant damage.

Toronto’s Big Three, Auston Matthews (despite being sidelined now), Mitch Marner and William Nylander, have all provided wonderful seasons and have been the driving force of the Leafs high-powered attack. Behind those three, the players that have now been there for the long-haul now — Kadri, van Riemsdyk, Bozak, Reilly — are all finishing up solid years. Offseason pickup Patrick Marleau has been an excellent veteran presence for the likes of Connor Brown, Zach Hyman and the other 20-somethings that Toronto’s roster is made up of. In net, Frederik Andersen has made it clear he’s going to be the anchor for the Leafs.

This Maple Leafs team has a really good mix of young and old. And after losing in six games in round one last year, the expectations are high for the team to take that next step toward breaking the Cup drought that has lasted now since 1967.

Washington Capitals

There is no NHL team in more need of a Stanley Cup than the Washington Capitals. Washington has been one of the more dominant regular-season clubs over the last ten years. But when it comes to the playoffs, something seems to changes and they just can’t find a way to get over the proverbial hump.

The Caps continue to be led by superstar and future Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin. Again this year, he will total another unbelievable season. But Ovi has a cast of characters behind him that finally want to get that monkey off their back. Goalie Braden Holtby is in the Vezina conversation again and has to face his ghosts of playoffs past. Forwards Nick Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov have done what they usually do, while it’s been career years for John Carlson and Lars Eller.

A lot of talks has surrounded the Caps about whether this season will be the last hurrah for this current group if they can’t get the job done. And that talk is warranted. After all, how many more times can a team with so much talent not reach the conference finals, let alone the Stanley Cup Final?

Pittsburgh Penguins

It’s hard to use the word odds when referring to a back-to-back championship team. But even the mighty Penguins don’t get that benefit of the doubt. The Penguins are primed and ready to make it a three-peat, something no one ever thought could be possible in the salary cap era, let alone two in a row.

The Pens dynasty was thought to be coming to a crashing halt up until about mid-December. But as they have over recent seasons, the Penguins decided to go on a warpath. Evgeni Malkin has played like a man possessed before the new year started. Phil Kessel’s goal-scoring prowess hasn’t slowed down, while Sidney Crosby has played, well like Sidney Crosby. Looking past that trio, Pittsburgh has continued to retrieve contributions from their forwards who made a significant impact in last year’s Cup run. Even the players they traded for, Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan, and Jamie Oleksiak found their footing quickly and have paid dividends.

Look it’s hard to go against the Penguins winning it all again. They will have some very stiff competition. But this team has the heart of a champion and an iron will that is very hard to break. Securing a third-straight Stanley Cup doesn’t seem that far-fetched.

Batman has become an icon for comic books and heroism over the last decade, capturing the attention of millions of fans with both his on-screen appearances as well as his countless adventures in graphic novels. The intrepid Dark Knight has come a long way since his conceptualization in 1939 when the first Batman Comic was published, and our favorite vigilante first dawned his cape and cowl.

But in all his fame and glory, an often forgotten fact is that there is indeed a man behind the mask. Though his nights are spent leaping from rooftop to rooftop with numerous young sidekicks as the Caped Crusader, his days are spent as Bruce Wayne, billionaire, philanthropist, care-taker, ladies man, and head of a multibillion-dollar industry. While our stoic orphaned hero does identify more with his masked persona than the face he shares with the world, Bruce Wayne and Batman still share certain core characteristics.

Here are a few things you probably didn’t about the world’s greatest detective, during his day job.

1. Bruce Wayne practically runs the DC Universe

There has been a lot of talk about how rich little Brucey is and what a nice clean fortune his parents left for him. But they also left him a massive company to run, with subsidiaries dealing with chemicals, construction, shipping, biotech, media, aeronautics, etc. Wayne Industries exceeds the industrial goals of its competitors such as LexCorp, run by Lex Luthor, (which explains his snippy behavior in the BVS movie) and Ferris Aircraft, headed by Carol Ferris (love interest and employer, what a combination, of Hal Jordon, the Green Lantern). While the day to day operations are handled by his associate and long-time friend of his parent’s, Lucius Fox, Bruce still plays a major role in overseeing the bulk of the subsidiaries and ensuring that employees and management at Wayne Enterprises follow all required protocol, and even helped push the shift to a greener industry. Though he may have just been trying to curry favor with the intoxicating Selina Kyle, who’s known for having a green thumb herself. Forbes valued the fictional character at $6.9 million dollars, while Centives recalculated the numbers according to the Nolan movies and logged Wayne Enterprises in at $23.22 billion dollars, and our white knight himself at $11.6 billion. That’s a lot of moolah.

2. Bruce’s name was always meant to be heroic

Bruce’s character was named after two great historical heroes. The first was Robert the Bruce, a Scottish national hero. And the second was a hero from the American Revolution, Mad Anthony Wayne, contributing to his last name. It was noted in the autobiography of Bob Kane, creator of Batman, the name was created by recently acknowledged co-creator of the character, Bill Finger, who said, “Bruce Wayne’s first name came from Robert Bruce, the Scottish Patriot. Wayne, being a playboy, was a man of gentry. I searched for a name that would suggest colonialism. I tried Adams, Hancock… And then I thought of Mad Anthony Wayne.” To think how close we were to having a Dark Knight named Bob Hancock.

3. Bruce Wayne loves soup

The truth is there have been so many reincarnations of our favorite vigilante that along the way it’s hard to put a finger on who he is, be it the stumbling but sweet man-boy from Batman the Animated Series or the suaver and “worldly” ladies man from the Nolan movies. But one thing is for certain, our man loves his soup. You don’t have to take my word for it. Just ask Alfred, the man that keeps the Caped Crusader fed and fit for a night of skulking and badassery. In Batman Volume 1, Issue #701, as Alfred attempts to soothe his surrogate son’s soul at the end of another adventure, he reassures him that he has prepared mulligatawny soup, his favorite. The young billionaire maintains his love for broth even on screen. In Batman: The Animated Series, an episode entitled Vendetta, Alfred again steps forward with dinner for the battered Bat, letting him know that he had made French Onion Soup, which he says is Bruce Wayne’s favorite food. For all their differences, this is one consistency I can’t help but like.

4. Bruce Wayne has a soft spot for the criminally insane

I know this probably doesn’t come as a shocker to most of you, but it’s true. Despite the Batman’s many encounters with the unsavory underworld of Gotham, Bruce Wayne, and Wayne Enterprises, along with numerous charities and medical foundations, also provide help for ex-convicts from Stonegate Penitentiary and patients released from Arkham Asylum. In the episode Double Talk, from Batman: the Animated Series, Arnold Wesker, known as the Ventriloquist, is released from Arkham Asylum, with a clean bill of health so long as he stays away from things from his criminal past, and his dummy, known in the crime circles as Scarface. Wesker is set up with a small place to live in a halfway house, owned and operated by Wayne Enterprises, and a job with Wayne Industries. While Batman keeps an eye on Wesker after hours, Bruce Wayne does his best to be a welcoming new boss, even for the wacko with the dummy and the machine gun. He’s a big believer in second chances. In another episode entitled Second Chance, Bruce Wayne foots the bill for a surgery to turn Two-Face back into Harvey Dent by fixing the scars on his face. “Good ol’ Bruce. Always there. You never give up on me.”

5. Bruce is more than just a pretty face

He’s also a fat wallet. Nah, I’m just kidding. However, the Batman’s main features were described in Uricchio Pearson’s, “I’m Not Fooled By That Cheap Disguise”, as “wealth; physical prowess; deductive abilities and obsession”. Yet, over the years the character developed to more and that began with the training of the young orphan Bruce Wayne. According to Batman: Year One, Bruce trained for eighteen years before taking on the role of Batman. Bruce Wayne is actually an expert in most subjects encompassing the world of crime-fighting. And with criminals such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, Gorilla Grodd, etc. overtaking the world of DC, those subjects pretty much include everything from chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, biotechnology, geology, geography, cultures to zoology and martial arts. He even speaks over 40 languages fluently. In the Animated Series, the episode Night of the Ninja, one of his former Sensei’s makes an appearance, as does the magician Giovanni Zatara, who taught Bruce the art of escaping any and all traps, in the episode Zatanna. In a story envisioned by Alfred, in Batman the Brave and the Bold in an episode entitled The Knights of Tomorrow, Bruce can be seen teaching his son all the skills the boy will need to one day take on the mantle of the Bat, right down to the unnecessary but so very enjoyable, superhero quips. Your tyrannical tantrum of terror ends tonights, Two-Face!

6. Our boy billionaire has a passion for Action movies

In more than one personification of the Batman, have we seen his focal point of inspiration? And it usually points to The Mask of Zorro. Though his life was burdened with tragedy, he, like the rest of us, looked to a masked hero to sweep down from the skies and save the day. In Batman the Brave and the Bold, a young Bruce is seen attending the movie The Mask of Zorro at a theatre with his parents. In the Animated Series, his hero takes on a new form, called The Grey Ghost. In the episode, Beware the Grey Ghost, a new criminal is blowing up buildings in Gotham, following the exact M.O of a villain seen on Bruce’s favorite childhood show, The Grey Ghost. It is really something else to see your heroes as fanboys, but that’s what Bruce was, with the memorabilia and everything. I can understand why. The heroic Grey Ghost was voiced by none other than Adam West. He truly and forever will breathe life into Batman.

7. Bruce Wayne is something of a family man

We all know about the long line of women standing outside the doors of Wayne Manor hoping to be noticed by the dashing young man. But over the years, through his many incarnations, Bruce has enjoyed briefly the bonds of marriage, and fatherhood at some point of the other. With Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul, he had an illegitimate son named Damian Wayne, who was raised by Ra’s and the League of Shadows in the DCAU production Son of Batman (2014), while in The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul, his formative years were spent with the Batman. There is Helena Wayne, the legitimate daughter of Bruce and Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and in other stories, Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce and Selina. There was also the lesser known Bruce Wayne Jr., his child with an unnamed wife. Finally, there is Terry McGinnis, who was born with Bruce’s DNA through an experiment, unbeknownst to either of them, in the series Batman Beyond.

8. Bruce is kind of a teetotaller

Maybe he doesn’t like the taste, or maybe it has something to do with spending every night on the streets chasing psychopaths and murderers, but despite appearances to the contrary, the heir to the Wayne foundation is not a fan of getting intoxicated. Though he has been seen having a drink or two at the occasional socialite gatherings he’s forced to attend, it is mostly just for show. Maintaining his nighttime activities requires him to keep his body in peak physical condition and his mind even stronger. “An organized mind is a disciplined mind, Joker. And a disciplined mind is a powerful mind.” – Batman The Brave and the Bold, Ep: Emperor Joker. Batman has maintained his sobriety at all costs. Except for that one time he got hooked on venom.

9. Bruce Wayne once got hooked on Venom

In Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Issue #16-20, entitled Batman: Venom, after one day failing to save a little girl, our dear Dark Knight begins to take a pill form of Venom. Venom is a chemical concoction originally perfected, produced and used by Bane, one of the Bat’s greatest adversaries. Finding the effects of the Venom to be helpful to his crime-fighting skills, Batman keeps going back for more and more, unaware through the process that both Venom and these newly manufactured pills are meant to be highly addictive, like steroids on heroin (or vice versa). In a desperate moment to regain access to the drug, the Caped Crusader almost breaks his one and only rule. But the Dark Knight will always be our hero. He fought through it, kicked the habit, and saved the day. No further spoilers.

10. Bruce Wayne is Superman’s boss

Well, part-boss. While Superman may have the whole superhuman flight advantage on the Bat, Bruce Wayne, through his company Wayne Enterprises is a part owner of the Daily Planet, along with Galaxy Communications (Morgan Edge), TransNational Enterprises (Franklin Stern), and LexCorp (Lex Luthor). This storyline is followed in the Batman: Hush comic, as well as the latest New 52 series. The Daily Planet is the largest newspaper and media conglomerate of Metropolis, home of the meek and mild-mannered Clark Kent, who is also a reporter for the Daily Planet. Unless the tights are on, it looks like our boy scout in blue may be forced to keep his head down when the debonaire man of Gotham City comes to his town. That’s definitely one for you, Bruce.

Reports have come out of a shooting near Broadway Bridge in Portland Oregon, with at least one woman shot and laying near a Volvo at the west end of the bridge, with another man shot in his back shoulder; as police are searching for the suspect, they are blocking off the area, which is being considered an ongoing crime scene.

What happened?

The Portland OR Alerts Twitter page, which is not connected to an official agency and is not confirmed, issued the following updates to the story:

“Portland: police to west end of the Broadway Bridge, report of a female shot and laying near a Volvo, possible shooter was seen running towards the train tracks, possibly a bald white male wearing a black leather jacket #pdxtraffic #AvoidTheArea”

Police are searching for Mark Dombroski, a 19-year-old Saint Joseph’s University student who went missing in Bermuda while on a school trip with his college rugby team. Dombroski, a freshman at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, was visiting Hamilton, Bermuda, with his the rugby team when he went missing early Sunday morning.

According to reports, Dombroski was last seen at a popular bar on the island, as surveillance footage shows him The Dog House bar shortly before he went missing after 1 a.m. Dombroski was wearing a green T-shirt and khaki shorts.

During a press conference on Monday, March 19, police said there is no indication if Dombroski was intoxicated when he disappeared.

Dombroski, who is described as a 6-feet tall white male with blonde hair, was last seen on footage at 1:15 a.m. He was reported missing around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 18. Police do not believe he made it back to the team hotel.

Surveillance video from an island-wide CCTV system captured Dombroski walking alone down Middle Road in Devonshire Parish around 1:15 a.m. while using a cellphone. The last place he was spotted is about 1.2 kilometers from the bar. He appeared to be favoring his shoulder, which he may have injured during the rugby tournament, Dombroski’s mother Lisa, who viewed the video, said.

Dombroski’s parents, Lisa and John, joined Bermuda investigators at a midday news conference Monday and thanked everyone efforts on finding Dombroski. Police have already used on-land and marine search teams in Hamilton Harbour in their search for him.

Dombroski, a freshman, was set to return to America along with the Philadelphia university’s team on Sunday. It was unclear Monday morning if all of his teammates had made the trip.

The Bermuda Rugby Sevens organization is offering a $1,000 reward for information about Dombroski’s whereabouts. Authorities are asking anyone with photos, videos, or information to contact police at 441-295-0011.

Last week, “The Monster Among Men” Braun Strowman tore through a tag team over-the-top-rope battle royal, standing tall as the winner of the match. Strowman now qualifies to face The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 34. The only issue is that “The Monster Among Men” doesn’t have a partner to face The Bar at ‘Mania. My guess is that “The Big Red Machine” Kane will fill the void as Strowman’s tag partner, either winning a separate battle royal or simply volunteering for the role.

During the Premier League game between the Tottenham Spurs and AFC Bournemouth on March 11, Tottenham’s Harry Kane rolled his ankle in the first half after a collision with Asmir Begović. Tottenham finished the game with a 4-1 win over Bournemouth; however, they lost an extremely vital player. It appears Kane will be out for six weeks with ankle ligament damage. Now everyone is wondering how this will affect Tottenham’s future success.

Though the Spurs’ striker will be missed, the team still carries additional high-quality players. Three names come to mind: Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.

Son Heung-Min 

After Kane limped off the field, Son Heung-Min was moved up front and in the second half, scored twice. The 25-year old winger/forward from South Korea has been playing with Tottenham since August 2015. Since the beginning of the season, he has scored 18 goals. With still two months to go, it is expected that this number will grow. Although his playing style is different from Kane’s, Heung Min is an impressive forward and one of the few Asian players in the Premier League to gain notable recognition.

Christian Eriksen

Tottenham advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals after a 3-0 win over Swansea City this past Saturday. Christian Eriksen was responsible for two of these goals. As an attacking midfielder for Tottenham since August 2013, this 26-year-old originally from Denmark has been a consistently strong player. He is excellent at identifying the free space on the field as well as crafting opportunities for his teammates. Eriksen has had seven goals so far this season, and 38 goals overall since his start with the Premier League.

Dele Alli

Although Dele Alli also sustained a minor injury later in the game against Bournemouth, he still remains a promising player in Kane’s absence. At the age of 21, he is a native of the UK and has been a midfielder for Tottenham since February 2015. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino recently claimed that Alli is the best player in his age group. Since joining the Premier League, Alli has made 99 appearances, scored 34 goals, and made 25 assists.

With their latest victory against Swansea City, the Spurs are showing that they are still a force to be reckoned with– Kane or no Kane. Pochettino expresses pride for his team and confidence in his players’ abilities. Tottenham’s next match is against Chelsea on April 1, 2018.

Look, someone had died, so now is not really the time to make jokes. Whoever that person and their family may be, their lives are forever altered because Uber — and humans in general — have gotten way too reckless with artificial intelligence. If one of Uber’s bigwigs had just taken a step back and thought to themselves “Hey, maybe vehicles with the potential to kill should be operated by a living human instead of a program”, then maybe this daughter or mother or sister or loved one would still be alive today.

But they didn’t: all Uber — and other companies — sees when it comes to artificial intelligence is automation, convenience, and therefore, profits.

So, while this may not be the time to make jokes about Uber, it is a time to say ‘I told you so’, as we (I) predicted these robotmobiles were a bad idea way back in 2016 when they were first unveiled:

Have we learned nothing from science fiction? The obvious example is The Terminator (1, 2, 3, 4, AND 5), but in reality, Hollywood has been trying to warn us of the incoming robot invasion for decades. There’s been action dramas like A.I.,  I, Robot, Ex Machina, The Matrix. There have been kids movies such as Wall-E. Hell, there was even a f*cking love story: Her. This year, another artificial intelligence movie, Morgan (starring Kate Mara), will hit theaters. The warning signs are all there, we’re just choosing to ignore them.

I believe this to be the proverbial first step in going too far: self-driving Ubers. Thanks to Elon Musk, the love child of a Bond villain and Steve Jobs, self-driving technology has gained serious traction in the last couple of years. Now, with a company as big as Uber getting involved, it’s sure to really take off.

Near the end of 2014, Uber co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Travis Kalanick traveled to Pittsburgh to hire dozens of the world’s experts in autonomous vehicles. The goal was to replace Uber’s more than 1 million human drivers with robot drivers—as quickly as possible. I love the part where Uber says there will be a ‘supervised by humans in the driver’s seat for the time being’. Time being, as in, until the robot Ubers become cognitive are start kamikazeing themselves to eliminate the feeble human race.

I’m kind of kidding. But not really. I mean seriously, once the ‘time being’ is over, you’re telling me there’s going to be a bunch of emotionless/fearless robots ripping it next to me on the I95, and I’m just supposed to be chill with that? Nah.

Then, last Summer, I tried to spread the word again, saying that if we’re so desperate to automate things, we should start working on robot chefs or maids instead of robot cars– you know, things that can’t kill us:

And now, nearly two years older and two years wiser (talking about myself, clearly not Uber), and unfortunately my written-in-jest article has come to fruition, as one of Uber’s self-driving vehicles struck and killed a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona.

While you can read more about the incident over on the New York Times (or anywhere on the internet, really), the point I’m trying to make is simple: instead of retroactively halting the program (which Uber has done), it should have never gotten off the ground in the first place.

I’m no Fortune 500 CEO and even I was able to see this one coming from a mile away.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University has been placed on suspension while the university investigates violations of the student code of conduct.

According to reports, ECU announced on Friday, March 2, that Sigma Alpha Epsilon had been placed on deferred suspension a year ago for violations of ECU’s and the fraternity’s hazing policy.

The university said that they would continue to investigate the behavior of individual members of SAE.

SAE is one of East Carolina’s 23 fraternities.

The fraternity was put on a “redevelopment plan” after the suspension, but was not following the terms of the agreement, which led to the closure. The fraternity will be closed for a period of four years, ECU officials said.

“ECU shares, with the national organizations, alumni and advisors, the commitment to holding organizations and students accountable for actions that do not meet expectations,” Virginia Hardy, ECU’s vice chancellor for student affairs, said in a news release. “We will continue our efforts to strengthen our campus fraternities, sororities and all student organizations as a key part of the student experience at ECU.”

The closure of SAE marks the third fraternity closed at East Carolina this year.

This is the latest fraternity suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities.

Police have confirmed that a woman in Arizona, was hit by an Uber self-driving car, later dying of her injuries in the hospital, in what is believed to possibly be the first instance of a self-driving car killing a person who was not inside the vehicle.

What happened?

According to ABC 15, police confirmed that Uber’s Arizona test car was in its self-driving mode when the accident occurred, but a self-driver had been behind the wheel, as safety protocol dictates; however, there were no other passengers within the car at the time.

On social media, Uber issued a statement confirming that the company was aware of what had happened and that they would work with police in the ongoing investigation. National Transportation Safety Board officials also confirmed that they would be sending a team to Arizona for the ongoing investigation on social media.

What have people been saying about the incident?

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi also issued the following statement on Twitter:

“Some incredibly sad news out of Arizona. We’re thinking of the victim’s family as we work with local law enforcement to understand what happened.”

According to USA Today, John Simpson, the privacy and technology project director at Consumer Watchdog, also issued the following statements:

“There should be a national moratorium on all robot car testing on public roads until the complete details of this tragedy are made public and are analyzed by outside experts so we understand what went so terribly wrong.”

“Arizona has been the wild west of robot car testing with virtually no regulations in place.”

“That’s why Uber and Waymo test there. When there’s no sheriff in town, people get killed.”

The Arizona Republic also confirmed that Uber has “paused” its operations of self-driving cars for the time being and did not dispute police reports.

Mayor Mark Mitchell of Arizona also issued the following statement:

David Ortiz is the former Boston Red Sox slugger, who many of you might know by the nickname “Big Papi”. Ortiz retired from baseball after the 2016 season. Throughout his historic career, he grew into one of the most popular and likable players in the league.

Ortiz made his professional debut in 1997 as a member of the Minnesota Twins. He would only play for two teams throughout his 20-year career. The second team being the Boston Red Sox. In Boston is where Ortiz saw his career took a meteoric rise. So, how much is this future Hall of Famer worth?

Minnesota Twins 1997-2002

Ortiz got his first professional action at the age of 21 for the Minnesota Twins in 1997. During the ’97 season, Ortiz played in 15 games and did not have quite the impact he expected of himself. The sample size was small though, and Ortiz’s confidence never wavered.

The following season saw Ortiz get more action with 326 plate appearances. Ortiz showed flashes of power but was still adjusting to the professional game at just 22 years-old. It wasn’t until the 2000 season that Ortiz would play in 100+ games. His stat line for the season was a .282 batting avg. to go along with 10 home runs and 63 RBI. On Sunday, it was announced by the Mexican Federation that brothers Jonathan and Giovani dos Santos of LA Galaxy will not be playing in the next two El Tri games. On March 11, Giovani suffered tightness in his right hamstring during the match against New York City FC. The Galaxy forward is expected to be out for one to three weeks.

Tyronn Lue is a former NBA point guard and coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He recently announced he would be stepping down as the Cav’s coach to focus on his health. It’s unclear what health issues Lue’s been having, but he’s had to exit games three times this season due to illness.

Lue struggled his first couple years with the Lakers and saw limited playing time. He excelled in the 2001 playoffs, however. Due to his quickness, he was asked to guard Allen Iversonin the Finals. Although he gave AI an all-time highlight clip (see above), he ultimately helped the Lakers go on to beat the Sixers four games to one and win the title. This championship was the second and last title Lue would win as a player – his first ring came the year before, 2000, which was also with Los Angeles.

2001-2009

After the Laker’s championship season in 2001, Lue signed with the Washington Wizards. With the Wizards, Lue played a lot more and subsequently became a much better point guard. His stats peaked in Atlanta wherein the 2005 season, he averaged 13.5 ppg, 5.4 apg, and 31.2 mpg. During his 11 seasons in the NBA Lue was a journeyman, playing on eight different teams. He was always a solid option at PG but never all-star caliber.

2011-Present

Tyronn Lue retired after his 2009 season with the Orlando Magic. In 2011, he began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Celtics. He became an assistant head coach for Cleveland in 2014 and when David Blatt stepped down in 2016, Lue was asked to step up as HC. And that’s exactly what he did. On June 19, 2016, the Cavaliers won their first NBA Championship, with Lue becoming the second rookie coach in consecutive seasons to win it all, the third person to become champion as a mid-season replacement coach, and the 14th person to win an NBA championship as a head coach and player. At the 2016 ESPY Awards, Lue was named Best Coach/Manager, and the Cavs were named Best Team.

Since then, the Cavs and Lue have gotten close to winning another title but not quite able to repeat their 2016 magic. In 2018, Lue’s struggle with illness combined with the Cav’s struggle in performance, have led to him stepping down as head coach.

Officials say there has been a school shooting at Great Mills High School in southern Maryland. The campus is on lockdown and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene and investigating the incident. Special agents from the ATF’s Baltimore office are en route.

Early reports indicate that three people have been injured. Sources tell ABC that the Great Mills shooter was a student and is one of the three injured. Furthermore, two others injured were also students. Reports indicate that a school resource officer took action to end threat.

Great Mills High School is a comprehensive public high school of 1600+ students in grades 9-12. It serves students at the confluence of the Potomac River, Patuxent River, and Chesapeake Bay. The area is a mixture of rural and suburban communities.

The shooting comes more than a month after the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead.

O’Day would go on to appear in Making the Band 3, where she emerged as the show’s breakout star. As she competed on the show, she would also embark on a modeling career appearing in Blender magazine and other publications. She would go on to secure a spot in the band, now known as Danity Kane.

Their self-titled first album, Danity Kane, was released in 2006 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. They went on to open for Christina Aguilera on her Back to Basics Tour, along with fellow girl group The Pussycat Dolls.

As Making The Band continued, tensions between O’Day and Combs began to rise as her career began to broaden outside of music. Combs accused her of using her “oversexed” image as a means to increase her fame, even going so far as to call her “the worst dancer in the group.” These tensions eventually would go on to boil over, leading to Combs dismissing O’Day from the group.

2008-2012

Following her dismissal from Danity Kane, O’Day embarked on a single career. She would appear in the Broadway production of Hairspray as well as the comedy American High School. She would be featured on different singer’s tracks including Donnie Wahlberg’s “I Got It.”

She starred in her own reality show All About Aubrey in 2011 on the Oxygen Network. The show only ran for six episodes. Her debut single “Automatic” was released in 2011 and served as the intro music for All About Aubrey.

2012-Present

In 2012, O’Day appeared on Donald Trump’s The Celebrity Apprentice 5. She was deemed the “villain” of that season, earning the ire of celebrities like Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken. Her repeated misconduct on the show nearly led to her getting fired early, she went on to finish in third place.

Also in 2012, O’Day released another single titled “Wrecking Ball.” She went to release her debut EP Between Two Evils in 2013, it rose to #5 on the iTunes charts. Danity Kane also reunited in 2013, but it did not last long as O’Day would feud with bandmate Dawn Richard, and the band broke up again.

However, she would form the duo Dumblonde with Danity Kane bandmate Shannon Bex, and they released the self-titled album in 2015. Since then, she’s appeared on Celebrity Big Brother among other projects.

Princeton University has closed two school buildings as part of a possible hostage active shooter incident taking place at a nearby Panera Bread on Nassau Street, with the school posting a campus alert and various updates of the story on their official website and social media accounts.

What happened?

On the school’s official Twitter account, a campus alert had been issued; in addition, the following statement was made:

“@PrincetonPolice were called to the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street across from the #PrincetonU campus, and they have an armed man surrounded inside the building.”

The campus alert, which came from Princeton’s official website, issued the following updates:

“Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded an armed man inside the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street, across from campus. Police urge everyone to avoid the area.”

“Municipality of Princeton police continue to surround an armed man inside the Panera restaurant on Nassau Street, across from campus. Law enforcement officials are negotiating with the man.”

“Law enforcement officials continue to negotiate with an armed man whom Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from campus.”

“No new information to report. Law enforcement officials continue to negotiate with an armed man whom Municipality of Princeton police have surrounded inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from campus.”

“The situation remains unchanged, according to a short statement issued by municipality of Princeton police. Nassau Street is closed between Witherspoon Street and Washington Road.”

“The New Jersey Attorney General’s office announced Tuesday evening that, after a standoff, police shot and killed an armed man inside the Panera restaurant across Nassau Street from the Princeton University campus. Details are on the attorney general’s website.”

In addition, two school buildings, identified asHenry House and Scheide Caldwell House, have been evacuated as a response. At this time, it is unknown if the shooter has any connection to the school.

Classes are not in session at the school, as it is currently Spring Break.

UPDATE: By 6:00 P.M., the situation had been cleared, with the gunman shot and killed. At this time, his identity is unknown.

The infamous 72-day marriage came only 90 days after the Kris popped the question. And even though Kim insisted in a roundabout way to Oprah’s face that she wouldn’t “marry to get ratings”, we still must wonder. Kris himself, who’d sought an annulment instead of divorce, alleged that the marriage was fraudulent. Humphries was introduced during the season 6 premiere of Keeping Up, and Kim’s family–particularly and ironically Khloé–were not entirely thrilled with how Kim was rebounding from Reggie Bush. Khloé had herself an argument: it was pretty clear that the chemistry wasn’t there. The dollars were, though. The two-night wedding special, “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding”, was E! network’s “most-watched event to date.” And the Kourtney and Kim Take New York season 2 finale when Kim comes to the conclusion to file for divorce? Third-most viewers for an E! telecast to date. Kris was blindsided and “devastated” by the divorce, and his NBA career never quite recovered. A whirlwind. A head-scratcher. A dramatic chronicle indeed. Khloé and Lamar married in September 2009, a month after meeting at the birthday party of the man formerly known as Ron Artest. Kardashian and Odom were together long enough to yield 20 episodes of a Keeping Up spinoff, Khloé & Lamar, which in hindsight was more of a coming-out party for Rob Kardashian, who lived on their couch. While it was occasionally believable that Koko and “Lam Lam” were in love to some degree–unlike Kim and Kris who clearly did not know a thing about each other–the prophecy was fulfilled: Khloé filed for divorce in December 2013. Two years later, after Lamar was found unconscious following an overdose and hospitalized in critical condition, Khloé called off the divorce in order to support and make medical decisions for him. Lamar would recover, and the divorce would be finalized in December 2016.

Post-Lamar (kind of?) and pre-Tristan, there was The Beard. And he’d love for us to forget it entirely. James Harden and Khloé became involved in July 2015, and Harden’s made it clear that it was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad mistake. 2015 ended up being “the worst year of his life”. Combine the complimentary media circus that comes with dating a Kardashian, Khloé’s occupation with Lamar Odom (Odom’s health crisis would emerge months into the Harden-Kardashian relationship), and his disastrous workplace relationship with then-Rockets teammate Dwight Howard, and you can see Harden’s point. In hindsight, it’s hard to remember anything about the relationship before the predestined fallout. Khloé’s obviously moved on, and James has totally recovered from both the Kardashian Curse and Lil B’s curse. So let’s leave it all in the past.

Kendall moved from Harry Styles (allegedly) to… Chandler Parsons? In 2014, it was reported that Parsons and Jenner “were chatting and flirting” while eating tuna on a group date. Parsons insisted it was nothing. The two have been spotted out together a handful of times since, reigniting rumors between December 2016 and January 2017 while Parsons was maybe supposed to be dating Hailey Baldwin and Kendall was maybe supposed to be dating Jordan Clarkson or Jordan and Hailey were maybe supposed to be dating each other. In August 2017, Kendall was apparently going steady with A$AP Rocky. Blake Griffin, of all people, was next up (and somehow, Parsons and Hailey Baldwin were again involved). How could Griffin–coming off an injury which sealed yet another playoff disappointment by the Clippers and Chris Paul’s decision to leave L.A. for Houston–further jeopardize his rather unlucky NBA career by stepping out with one of… them? Hadn’t he learned from the Hardens and Humphries before him? It felt as if we were getting a new set of paparazzi photos every day; the Kardashian Curse was imminent. To be fair to Blake, he started off 2017-18 statistically improved. But then he got hurt, again, and was later shipped out to Detroit in arguably the most bizarre trade sequence in recent NBA history. Whether it was a dose of Kardashian Karma or not, we can’t know for sure. But we had to wonder: could Kendall commit to Michigan in the middle of winter? Apparently not. By February, Blake and Kendall were allegedly on the rocks (though in a recent Vogue cover story, Kendall, quelling gay rumors, is purported to be in Detroit on the day after Valentine’s “visiting a friend”). Wherever we’re at in this relationship, the only thing confirmable is that it’s exhausting.
