Going into this season if I told you that Texas Tech and Texas were playing each other and one was ranked eighth in the country 90% of people would probably guess that Texas was that team. Well, they’d be wrong the Texas Tech Red Raiders have come out of nowhere and have proven to be a force this year! Texas is also on the upward trajectory and is led by their head coach Shaka Smart who by all accounts is the next great coach of college basketball. This game is going to have it all! Blood, sweat, and tears! With a chance to play spoiler to an in-state rival school like Texas Tech and Texas Tech wanting to dominate Texas to send a message both teams will be giving it their all!

Texas Tech (15-2) has been unreal so far to begin this year. They’ve knocked off top teams like West Virginia, Kansas, Baylor, etc. and their only losses coming early in the season at Seton Hall and then last week at Oklahoma who is one of the most exciting teams in basketball right now. That all being said its easy to see why Texas Tech is ranked eighth in the AP standings! The Red Raiders use ball movement and communication to play an efficient winning style of basketball. You can’t talk about TTU without mentioning Keenan Evans! the senior guard has been on FIRE this year averaging 17.5 points, 3.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game! if you can slow down Evans you might have a shot at beating the Red Raiders but many have tried and very few have succeeded.

The Texas Longhorns (11-6) have shown more fight this year than any other year in recent memory! The Longhorns have had to battle against some really tough competition and have held their own. Texas is coming off a heartbreaking one-point loss to Oklahoma St. where they lost on a layup with 6 seconds left. They have a quick turn around with Texas Tech and then a game against West Virginia, this won’t be an easy stretch for Smart’s team but if they can pull out some W’s they will start to get noticed and be a team everyone wants to avoid come March.

1970’s

At 19 years old, in 1973, Jon  Taffer worked his first job as a bartender for Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. Five years later, he got his first management job at The Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood. Staff theft was a major issue at The Troubadour, but not when Taffer stepped up to the helm. He helped rid the bar of employee misdeeds and after just three years of working there, he was given complete control of operations.

1980’s

Taffer claims he’s learned the business, not through a formal education, but rather through trial-and-error. He says that his greatest lessons have come from his greatest mistakes and fortunately for him, his greatest mistake came early on in his career. In Chicago in the late 1980s, Taffer lost $600,000 – all of his money – in his first partnership to a man that cheated him. He doesn’t like to go into details about the flawed deal but says that through it all he learned an invaluable lesson. From that day on, Taffer holds the belief that the character of a partner is just as important as their business acumen. This lesson seems to have served Taffer well, as he has had plenty of successes since then to balance out his rough start.

1990’s-Present

Shortly after his failed partnership, Taffer opened his first bar and hasn’t looked back since. His constant grind in the bar and nightlife industry has provided him with plenty of accolades in the industry. In addition to hosting a hit show, he is one of the first six inductees in the Nightclub Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was appointed as president of the Nightclub and Bar Media Group, which is responsible for Nightclub & Bar Magazine as well as the annual Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show. He published his first book, Raise the Bar, in October 2013, and holds the title of “Pub Master” in the United Kingdom.

President Donald Trump’s “Fake News Awards” are scheduled today, Wednesday, January 17. As of 5 PM EST, The Fake News Awards have not begun, nor has the President announced exactly what format the awards announcement will take.

President Trump originally announced via Twitter on January 2nd that he would be holding the “Most Dishonest & Corrupt Media Awards Of The Year” on Monday, January 8th. However, on Sunday, January 7th, President Trump pushed the awards back, now with the far sleeker title of “The Fake News Awards” to Wednesday, January 17th, saying that the “interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”

Fake news is defined as a “type of propaganda that consists of deliberate misinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media.”

After over two weeks of anticipation and curiosity about The Fake News Awards, citizens on both sides of the aisle are surely curious as to what the categories will be, who the winners will be, and how the winners will be announced. Stay tuned here to find out!

Riverdale is coming back for its midseason premiere, and all the classic characters, Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Cheryl, Josie & Valerie, are returning.

So far, the second season has shown just how suspenseful the town of Riverdale can be! When we last saw everyone, the high school janitor, Joseph Conway/Svenson was revealed to be the Black Hood himself, and was killed off! But is the Hood gone for good? The finale showed Betty Cooper putting another black hood over her face in a cliffhanger to end the show’s 2017 run.

Added to that, the town’s North and South Side will unite at Riverdale High School. Are we going to see Archie go head-to-head with the Southside Serpents?

Also, not to get too off topic, what with that Sabrina reboot in the works, would a cameo be too much to ask this season?

The show, which will consist of 9 episodes and is based on Maureen Orth’s book “Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U. S. History”, will delve into the murder of designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

Following a successful first season of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, The Assassination of Gianni Versace is supposedly a worthy successor, currently holding 84% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a general review that reads:

“The Assassination of Versace starts with a bang and unfurls slowly, moving backward through an intricate (and occasionally convoluted) murder mystery anchored by a career-defining performance from Darren Criss.”

Tau Epsilon Phi at the University of Florida has been suspended after alleged drug and alcohol-related incidents.

According to reports, Heather White, the university’s interim dean of students, sent the university’s chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi a three-page-letter recommending a four-year suspension from December 2017 until December 17, 2021.

The university accused the fraternity violating five student conduct codes, including drug possession, serving alcohol to minors. One of these alcohol-related incidents caused several people to be sent to the hospital. Furthermore, Tau Epsilon Phi caused $3,000 in damages to a hotel in New Orleans.

All residents of the chapter have until Jan. 31 to vacate the fraternity house. The chapter has 147 active members currently enrolled at UF.

According to the letter, which was sent to the Miami Herald by John Hines, UF’s coordinator of media affairs, the school made the decision to suspend the fraternity for several reasons. Among them: The chapter had previously been placed on deferred suspension twice due to violation of the student conduct code, including a 2008 violation when campus police found 36 pledges kneeling shirtless on the floor of the fraternity’s basement.

In addition, many fraternity members, including chapter leadership, were involved in the previous behaviors that violated University of Florida policies.

During the suspension, Tau Epsilon Phi will not be recognized as an active part of the University of Florida and therefore are barred from participating in any school functions.

This is the latest fraternity suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities.

Back in October, after Katie Nolan agreed to a much-deserved deal with ESPN, I wrote the following about the ever-talented sportscaster:

Katie Nolan is the epitome of “girl you take home to Mom & Dad”. She’s funny, gorgeous, smart, rich (probably? — hello ESPN money) talented and into sports. She seems like the type of chick who actually knows how to shotgun a beer without spilling all over herself and probably has a better fantasy football team then you do. She can quote Pulp Fiction and she enjoys a good BBQ burger. She’s that kinda girl.

And man, I meant it. I’ve had a HUGE crush on Katie Nolan ever since the OG days of Guyism, long before Fox Sports and ESPN came calling. Now fast forward five or six years later and Nolan is one of the most exciting young prospects at ESPN (seriously, Fox f*cked up by letting her walk. Her old Garbage Time podcast rocked & I’m sure her new podcast will be even better).

However, despite her excellent track record and even brighter future, Nolan, for whatever reason, still lets Twitter trolls get to her, frequently responding to all the loser internet squids who have nothing better to do then give her a hard time. So, me, being the forward-thinking individual that I am, decided to use that to my advantage.

“Ye ole’ bait and switch,” I told myself.

The plan was simple — I lead my tweet with a mean or degrading comment to get Katie’s attention, only to immediately pivot into telling her how much I think she rocks. A solid plan if I do say so myself.

So, I fired off the tweet at around 10:20 PM, expecting it to get lost in the Twitter abyss as most people shooting their shots at celebrities usually do. So I ripped my pen a couple of times, rolled over, and shut my eyes for bed … but not for long. Within five minutes, my phone started blowing up with notifications because … Katie actually answered.

Well, now I’m legit nervous. Never in my dreams did I expect my literal shot in the dark to even elicit a “like”, let alone a response, and now here I am, mid-conversation with Katie Nolan. I tried to think of something ironic or funny or slick to say, but it was already passed 10:30 and the charm sector of my brain had shut down hours ago, leading me to use the only approach I could think of: being direct. I figured if she respected my original Tweet enough to answer, she’d respect a similar follow-up.

While it might seem like a total prayer to some (it was), this particular shot had a better chance of going in than most, as Katie and I both live in the same city — Hoboken. And no, it isn’t creepy that I know that, because she had mentioned where she lives a couple of times on her old Garbage Time podcast and occasionally tweets from locations I recognize around the city. In hindsight, I wish I had mentioned something about Hoboken in my initial response.

Needless to say, unfortunately, Katie wasn’t about it (however, she did says “probs not”, so part of me was feeling like Lloyd Christmas, wondering if she’s saying there’s a chance) and kindly declined my invitation. I was able to squeeze a compliment out of her, though (nice ENOUGH!) which is a decent dub in it of itself. So as any gentleman would, I politely bowed out of the race, thanking Katie for her time and wishing her the best in this upcoming year.

At this point, I’ve accepted defeat and have begun to re-prepare myself to enter the sweet escape of sleep once more. However, it appears Katie wasn’t done with me, as she wanted to fire off one parting shot.

Now, not only have I been upgraded from “nice enough” to a “kind and gentle soul” (#facts), but now she’s TEASING me! Now, I don’t know about y’all personal experiences, but in my lifetime, teasing is essentially the most basic form of flirting. While part of me wanted to bow out gracefully and not make a further fool of myself, this seemed to be another window that I just couldn’t let pass me by, so dammit, I went full J.R. Smith and hurled up another prayer.

Did Katie answer? Of course not. But that’s not the point here, everyone. The point is that you must always keep shooting your shot, no matter how the odds are stacked against you. Yes, Katie Nolan is approximately 17x more talented, gorgeous, and famous than I, but my stupid little Tweet had her attention for about 15 minutes, and that’s about 15 minutes closer than most ever come.

So, Katie, if for whatever reason you’re reading this — if the Patriots lose (or win, I’m flexible) this weekend, I’ll meet you at The Madison on Washington.

Fraternities at the University of California-Los Angeles have been indefinitely banned from hosting in-house events with alcohol.

According to a statement from the UCLA Interfraternity Council, the Interfraternity council’s executive board passed the ban at a meeting on Tuesday, January 16. The ban was confirmed by Kevin Dougherty, the director of fraternity and sorority life and associate dean of students. The sororities and fraternities involved in the ban were informed through text, messaging apps and email.

The ban follows an alleged sexual assault Saturday night in the North Village. UCPD responded Sunday morning to an alleged report of sexual assault Saturday night at a party on the 500 block of Gayley Avenue. Benjamin Orr, 21, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit rape and oral copulation. Orr, a UCLA student, was the 2016-2017 president of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity.

Orr was transferred to Los Angeles County jail before being released on $100,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5 at the Los Angeles Airport Courthouse. A former member of the IFC executive council said he thinks instances of gender-based violence and discriminatory behaviors increased this academic school year, especially during fall quarter.

IFC Director Dougherty said that he thinks the ban is a “step in the right direction and that UCLA will ensure IFC and the chapters it oversees follow UCLA Student Conduct Code.” Furthermore, he added that UCLA works with UCPD and Campus Assault Resources and Education to respond to reports of inappropriate behavior, including sexual violence and sexual assault.

This is the latest fraternity suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities.

TCU Fraternity Accused Of Blindfolding & Burning Pledges During Hazing Rituals

Francis C. Hammond Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia has been evacuated due to an “unknown threat”. Students of the middle school are being bused to nearby TC Williams High School and will stay there while police search the school. No one will be permitted to enter the school until further notice.

Update 11:40 AM EST: Officials have given the all clear, the school plans to have students eat lunch at T.C. Williams, then return to Hammond.

The night before at 9:15 PM, a Twitter user with the username PokeIsLife sent a threat to the school, saying:

“@ACPSk12 Bombing Francis C. Hammond middle school tomorrow at 12PM. During school. If bombing fail’s it will be school shooter”

Alexandria Public Schools say they do not know if the threat is credible but it is being treated as such. There is no official word if the above Tweet is the specific source of the evacuation.

The Alexandria School System sent out an alert at 10:35 AM, saying:

Hammond Middle School is being evacuated due to a threat that, ACPS does not know is credible but is treating as credible. Police are currently on site and conducting a search of the school building.
Students are being transported on buses to T.C. Williams High School where they will remain until the school has been cleared by the Alexandria Police Department. We will update you as we get more information.

Furthermore, the school system asked parents not to come to the school unless specifically requested to do so, as this can complicate the handling of an emergency situation.

Francis C. Hammond Middle School is located in Alexandria, Virginia, at 4646 Seminary Road. Opened as a four-year high school in 1956, it was named after Alexandria native Francis Hammond, a U.S. Navy hospital corpsman who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War.

Back in early November, we brought you the story of 20-year-old Florida State student Andrew Coffey, who was found unresponsive at a Pi Kappa Phi fraternity party. Coffey was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Tallahassee police, Coffey, from Pompano Beach, was found on the morning of Friday, November 3 at 10:23 AM EST after the Tallahassee Police Department received a call about an unresponsive person at a home on Buena Vista Drive.

The state medical examiner said that Coffey had a blood alcohol level of .447 at the time of the autopsy. Now, nine Florida State University fraternity members are facing hazing charges. The affidavit states that the “environment created by the Pi Kappa Phi chapter’s leaders and members led to an expectation of abusive drinking.”

Arrest warrants were issued for the charge of college hazing causing injury or death, a third-degree felony. Court documents say that Conner Ravelo was Coffey’s fraternity ‘big brother’ and the other eight suspects were members of the chapter’s executive council and responsible for organizing the party, which reportedly featured cases of beer, at least sixteen bottles of liquor, and performances by two female strippers.

The affidavit says Coffey was drinking heavily as part of the fraternity’s ‘big-little’ party, part of the initiation process for acceptance into the fraternity. During the party, the document says, big brothers supply their little brothers with the ‘family drink’ and pledges are expected to finish the bottle.

Ravelo, who was under 21, admitted using someone else’s ID to buy alcohol and provide it to Coffey and others, according to the court records. The affidavit says Ravelo provided two bottles of Smirnoff Ice and a 750 mL bottle of Wild Turkey 101 bourbon.

The nine students being charged are:

Luke Kluttz,22, Clayton Muehlstein,22, Brett Birmingham,20, Conner Ravelo, 21, Christopher Hamlin,20, Anthony Petagine,21, Anthony Oppenheimer,21, John Ray,21, and Kyle Bauer, 21.

The Pi Kappa Phi national fraternity revoked the charter for the FSU chapter less than a week later and  Florida State University President John Thrasher announced the indefinite suspension of all fraternities and sororities at the school.

CBS This Morning

Dylan Farrow, 32, an American actress and daughter of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow. She shared details of her alleged sexual assault by adoptive father Allen in 1992. She spoke with Gayle King of CBS This Morning on Thursday about her allegations.

What Happened?

Farrow told Gayle King that Allen took her to the attic, then allegedly assaulted her while she was playing with her brother’s toy train (upon Allen’s instruction).

Farrow went on to say that Allen was always “following” and “touching” her.  He would ask her to get into bed with him when he or she was wearing only underwear. Allen did not act the same way with her sibling Ronan.

The Yale-New Haven Hospital and New York State Child Welfare ruled against sexual assault, while the prosecutor on Allen’s case found probable cause to press charges and ultimately chose not to for Dylan’s mental health.

“I do wish that they had [pressed charges],” Dylan Farrow said. “I was already traumatized…I mean, outside of a court of law, we do know what happened in the attic on that day. I just told you.”

Allen has always denied the allegations since Dylan Farrow came out with the allegations originally and insisted that Dylan was coerced and coached by her mother Mia Farrow during the couple’s divorce.

Allen issued a full statement to CBS saying that Farrow’s accusations were investigated 25 years ago to the fullest, and stuck to his story that “a vulnerable child had been coached to tell the story by her angry mother during a very bad breakup.”

Who Is Dylan Farrow?

Farrow is an advocate for the women’s movement in Hollywood, and over the past several months has spoken up even more about her accusations against Allen and charges not being brought against him. Dylan Farrow is wishing that there was some type of justice served. Allen’s former colleagues have begun to express their regret for working with him and have offered support and sympathy to Dylan.

Snapchat

Jake Pulliam, an Oklahoma State student who allegedly posted a racist Snapchat, has been removed from OSU’s chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Pulliam reportedly posted a Snapchat story with the caption “Bodak Black N****** on Monday, January 15, which was Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Ival Gregory, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at Oklahoma State University, confirmed Pulliam’s dismissal in an email to The O’Colly, Oklahoma State’s student newspaper. Oklahoma State University president Burns Hargis released a statement regarding the incident on Wednesday, January 17, condemning Pulliam’s behavior. Hargis said the university met with Pulliam and removed him from his position in residential life.

This is the second racist incident involving a fraternity or sorority member this week, as University of Alabama sorority sister Harley Barber was kicked out of her Alpha Phi sorority and expelled from the university.

Gregory, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at OSU, said that “It is my understanding that action took place on the evening of January 16, 2018, once the fraternity leadership was aware of the allegations. That sort of behavior is inexcusable and not acceptable in any civilized community.”

OSU President Hargis also released a full statement, saying:

“It is a shame he would exercise his right of free speech in a hurtful and insensitive way. It is especially reprehensible that this occurred as our nation celebrated the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Intolerance and discrimination of any person or group is not acceptable on the Oklahoma State University campus. “Offensive, hurtful language only seeks to divide and damage our campus community. On behalf of the university, I want to apologize to members of the OSU community, especially our African American students, who are hurt by this latest incident.

It is maddening and disappointing when these type of hateful incidents repeat themselves. We are better than this at OSU. I challenge every member of the OSU community to do what you can to help fight intolerance and make Oklahoma State University the best it can be.”

Arizona police have arrested 35-year-old Cleophus Cooksey Jr., a serial killer who authorities say is responsible for the murders of nine people during the latter part of 2017.

Police announced that Cooksey Jr. was being accused of killing nine people on January 18. Cooksey was already in the custody of authorities after being arrested in December 2017 for allegedly killing his mother and stepfather. Back in December, Cooksey, who has three violent felony convictions on his record, was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder and a weapons charge.

Cooksey has previously served time for an armed robbery committed in November 2000 and manslaughter committed in January 2001 and was released on July 28, 2017.

Once Cooksey was detained, officers went into the apartment and discovered the bodies of a man and woman. Both had been had been shot to death. Officers took Cooksey in for further questioning, but did not learn much.

“Cooksey stated he did not know what occurred and ultimately requested an attorney,” according to his court paperwork. Cooksey, who has three violent felony convictions on his record, was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder and a weapons charge.

Police said Cooksey knew the two victims and although investigators have not released their names, court paperwork indicates that they were Cooksey’s parents. During his initial court appearance late Monday morning, a cash only appearance bond was set at $1 million. Cooksey is due back in court on Dec. 22 for a status conference and then again on Dec. 27 for a preliminary hearing.

Cooksey is accused of abducting a woman in Glendale, sexually assaulting and killing her, before dumping her body. A second victim is the brother of Cooksey’s ex-girlfriend.

The murders reportedly included victims in a variety of demographic groups, occurred at various locations and lacked a unifying pattern or method. The victims also seem to be random, shot during meetings set up on the internet.

Stipe Miocic is an American born Mixed Martial Artist who is currently the UFC Heavyweight Champion. He will be defending his title against Francis Ngannou on January 20th. Stipe Miocic was born on August 19, 1982, in Euclid, Ohio, Stipe was always a huge fan of fighting growing up competing in Boxing and Wrestling. He won Cleveland Golden Gloves for boxing and wrestled Division 1 in college. With his ability to strike and strength on the ground, a career in MMA was the logical career path for Stipe. Let’s take a look at how the current Heavyweight Champion got to where he is.

Stipe Miocic Net Worth: $2 Million

Early Years

Stipe Miocic grew up an athlete, he was always playing sports, and besides wrestling and boxing, he also loved completing Football and Baseball. In fact, he had interest from Major League Baseball teams throughout his collegiate years at Cleveland State University and Trevecca Nazarene University. After College Miocic didn’t go right into MMA, he spent time working as a firefighter and a paramedic in Oakwood and Valley View, Ohio. Then Miocic realized his true calling was of mixed martial arts.

Pre-UFC (2006-2011)

Stipe got his MMA Career off to a stellar start, but it didn’t start in the UFC like so many fighters careers have. Stipe got his start in the NAAFS, which was an Ohio based MMA fighting league. He won his first five fights all by knockout and all very convincing. Miocic went on to become World Heavyweight Champion in NAAFS. After dominating NAAFS and not really earning enough money to support his family, Stipe decided it was time to crank things up a notch.

Early UFC Career (2011-2016)

By 2011 Miocic had caught the eye of Dana White, The President, and owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, which is the biggest MMA fighting league in the world. Miocic signed with the UFC on a multi-fight deal. His UFC debut game was against the Joey Beltran on Oct 8th, 2011, at UFC 136. He won the fight but it was not easy, he was awarded the victory via unanimous decision and thus began a great career of MMA.

Stipe recorded his first bonus in his second career fight knocking out veteran fighter Phil De Fries. He knocked out De Fries in the first round and earned ‘Knockout of the Night’ honors and the bonus money that comes along with it. In his third fight, Stipe was knocked out in the 2nd round, but both fighters were still awarded ‘Performance of the Night’ Honors, and each got an added bonus.

Champion Life (2016-present)

On May 14, 2016, he faced the current Heavyweight Champion Fabrício Werdum at UFC 198. Stipe not only beat Werdum but he knocked him out to claim the UFC Heavyweight Title! this was Werdum’s first loss since June 2011. Miocic earned the Championship as well as the Performance of the Night Bonus which ends up being around $30,000-$50,000.

Stipe successfully defended his title against Alistair Overeem in September 2016 and against Junior dos Santos in May 2016. Stipe went home with additional bonuses in both fights: ‘Fight of the Night’ against Overeem and a ‘Performance of the Night’ against dos Santos

SAE has agreed to close its chapter and the fraternity house at 810 S. Seventh Ave. The charter for the Montana Alpha chapter, as it is called, has been suspended and the undergraduate group disbanded. All current, initiated, undergraduate members have been suspended from the fraternity indefinitely and will not be allowed to reside in the Seventh Avenue house. The local house alumni corporation will continue managing the property, but it will never again operate as a fraternity house.

The agreement follows incidents over the span of several years at the fraternity house and various fraternity activities that endangered student health and safety, MSU Dean of Students Matt Caires said in a news release. The university and fraternity headquarters placed SAE on interim suspension in November.

Caires explained that the agreement means all current members of the SAE chapter are members no more and that the university no longer recognizes the SAE chapter as a student organization. During the three academic years, SAE cannot maintain or support any unofficial groups, either. At the end of that period, provided the agreement is upheld and all standard university requirements are met, MSU will reconsider allowing a future SAE chapter to become a recognized student group.

At Least 7 Students Suspect Were Drugged At Stanford Fraternity House Party

At least seven Stanford University students were allegedly drugged while attending a fraternity party at the Sigma Chi house on Friday, January 12, according to reports.

Five members of Pi Beta Phi and two male members of the school’s row team suspect that they were drugged by someone who does not attend the university. The Stanford Daily reports that the five Pi Beta Phi members and two rowers suffered from symptoms that “aligned with that of Xanax or a similar benzodiazepine.”

According to reports, one of the two rowers was transported to a local hospital, despite his blood alcohol content being “too low to have warranted a transport.” The second rower also went to the hospital voluntarily and “tested positive.”

The Title IX office is now investigating the incident, and Student Affairs met with the Department of Public Safety in order to file a report on Tuesday because “it is suspected criminal activity,” according to University spokesperson Lisa Lapin. The Monday evening memo stated that at least five members of Pi Phi at the Sigma Chi event experienced unusual symptoms “suspect of drug involvement.” Members said they did not remember what happened the night before although they had not consumed enough alcohol to cause a blackout.

“Symptoms aligned with that of Xanax or a similar benzodiazepine,” the staff member wrote. “But not all members took a drug test and we do not have official evidence.”

Benzodiazepines, also called “benzos,” are a type of drug that functions as a minor tranquilizer – “roofies” (trade name Rohypnol) are a type of benzodiazepine commonly known as a date rape drug. Xanax, also known by the scientific name alprazolam, is a benzodiazepine whose effects last for a shorter time than Rohypnol and is often used to treat disorders related to anxiety or panic.

Sigma Chi, the fraternity where the students were allegedly drugged, issued the following statement:

“Sigma Chi International Fraternity is aware of the allegations that illegal substances were brought into an event by a non-member and provided to attendees without their knowledge and we have begun our investigation into the matter. We are committed to working collaboratively with local authorities and Stanford University to see the perpetrator brought to justice.”

Giant car companies like Nissan, Lexus, Ford, Mercedes and many more spend their entire years gearing up for this one show.

With all types of vehicles on display like sedans, crossovers, SUVs and sports cars; the Detroit Auto Show has been filled to the brim with new models and concepts that will go on sale in the near future. From the resurrection of the beloved Mercedes G-Class to the unveiling of the Nissan Xmotion, this year’s North American Internation Auto Show was one for the books!

5. Lexus LF-1 Limitless

Lexus has been one of the leading names in luxury crossover SUVs for years now and at this year’s Detroit Auto Show they re-revealed the Lexus LF-1 Limitless, a hybrid SUV that can run on its fuel cell or gasoline. The sleek, modern build on the SUV is honestly one to swoon over. Inspired by a samurai sword, the Lexus LF-1 comes in a “rose gold” color and the interiors feature plush white leather seating and a screen dashboard full of driving technologies designed to make driving safer. The only downside is we really don’t know when this concept will be released for the public.

4. 2019 Ford Mustang BULLITT

Ford literally shocked the masses when they announced the 2019 Ford Mustang BULLITT, inspired by the car used in the 1968 movie Bullitt starring Steve McQueen. Sporting a 5.0-liter V8 engine, the car’s top speed reaches 163 MPH and features many aesthetic touches that honor the legendary car. With a cue-ball stick shift and a badge on the steering wheel, the car has many touches for fans of the classic film but also has a touchscreen dashboard to allow safer driving.

3. 2019 Mercedes G-Class

Mercedes Benz made their way to the Detroit Auto Show with a slew of announcements but none was more acclaimed than the new redesign of the Mercedes Benz G-Class. Focusing primarily on redesigning the interior; Mercedes announced a slew of upgrades like added legroom, a 12.3-inch widescreen touchscreen, and massaging seats (!) to the G-Class which is definitely making fans happy. Added to the increased width and length of vehicle, this new generation of the G-Class is sure to impress!

2.Infinity Q Inspiration

The Infiniti Q Inspiration showed up to the Detroit Auto Show and floored pretty much everyone in attendance. The new concept, which will not be released this year, screams, “car of the future,” in every way possible. With four individual seats, the Infiniti Q Inspiration will feature a fully digital dashboard with ProPilot technology which will allow self-autonomous driving allowing drivers to kick back and relax. Underneath the hood, the car will feature VC-Turbo technology, already seen in the QX50 which releases later this year, but it is not known if the car will be a hybrid or electric.

1. Nissan Xmotion

Nissan came to the Detroit Auto Show and completely obliterated all of their competitors with the reveal of the Nissan Xmotion. Looking straight out of a ‘Blade Runner-esque world’, the Nissan Xmotion will make drivers feel like their living 100 years into the future thanks to the Xmotion’s five-screen, door-to-door dashboard panel and the touchscreen center console which unlocks with a fingerprint sensor. Also, the interior is fitted with real Japanese wood to create the ultimate and sleekest car on the market. Nissan is staying tightlipped on a release date and pricing but since this is just a concept model, it may be a while until we see the Xmotion on the market.

Sometimes as a teacher, you have to do whatever it takes to get a young student’s attention, even if that means using a horribly photoshopped meme.

Wisely assuming that most of her eighth-grade students were likely obsessing about this weekend’s AFC Championship between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots, Jacksonville middle school teacher Amanda Swearingen edited an image of America’s founding fathers to include Blake Bortles, Leonard Fournette, Jalen Ramsey and Telvin Smith.

Swearingen, a Jags fan herself, told WJXT that she came up with the idea so she could put it on display during class.

“We just finished the American Revolution last semester so I thought, ‘I’ll just throw this up and see if they get that I put Jags faces over patriots,'” she said.

Swearingen, who was among the crowd that flocked to EverBank Field last week to welcome home the Jaguars, acknowledged it’s been tough for her and students alike to focus on anything but Sunday’s AFC title game against the Patriots, which will decide who advances to the Super Bowl. She said she and two students, who also are die-hard fans, spend a few moments before class every day talking about whichever team the Jaguars are preparing to play. This week was no different — well, almost.

“When I told them this meme went viral, one said, ‘Does this mean we don’t have to take our unit test today?'” said Swearingen, to which she replied, “Nice try.”

Hopefully, the Jaguars advance to the Super Bowl (because screw the Patriots) so we can get more excellent #content like this.

The Early Years

Allen was born Allan Stewart Konigsberg in Brooklyn, New York in 1935. It was by age 15 when he started going by “Woody Allen,” which was also when he “started” his career in comedy, sending his jokes to Broadway writers to test the waters. On such writer was Abe Burrows, who even sent Allen a check after using some of his jokes as samples. Allen’s film career flourished in the 1970s, including a film adaptation of Play It Again, Sam. Some of his well-known films that rounded out the decade included The Front in 1976, Annie Hall in 1977, which won four Academy Awards, and the 1979 Manhattan.

1980-1989

Some of his films from the 80’s include Stardust Memories, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy and Hannah and Her Sisters. Another popular film of his from this decade, The Purple Rose of Cairo, was named one of the 100 best films of all time by Time.

1990-1999

Some of his films from the 80’s include Shadows and Fog (1991), Husbands and Wives (1992), Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) and Bullets over Broadway (1994). In a controversial move in his personal life, during this decade, he divorced his then-wife, actress Mia Farrow, after it was discovered that he was having a relationship with her adopted daughter, Soon Yi Previn, who he married in 1997. During this time, Allen had also been the subject of sexual harassment claims concerning then-7-year-old adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. Towards the decade, Allen also appeared in animated form, as the main character in 1998’s Antz.

2000-2009

At the start of the decade, Allen came out with Small Time Crooks. His most successful film of the decade was 2005’s Match Point, which starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Scarlett Johansson and earned over $23 million domestically. He also collaborated with Johansson again with the 2006 film, Scoop. Other films of his from this decade include Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008 and Whatever Works in 2009, the latter of which had been in development hell since the 1970’s, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

2010-Present

Although it had been filmed the year prior, Allen started the decade with the release of the film, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. Other films from Allen during this period included To Rome with Love, Irrational Man and Blue Jasmine. However, this decade also saw a change in medium for Allen, as he wrote and directed his first television series for Amazon Studios, Crisis in Six Scenes. A few laters, he also filmed Wonder Wheel, which became the first movie self-distributed to theaters by Amazon Studios. In 2018, the controversy concerning Dylan Farrow resurfaced when she discussed the allegations with CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King. As she said during the interview:

“I was taken to a small attic crawl space in my mother’s country house in Connecticut by my father. He instructed me to lay down on my stomach and play with my brother’s toy train that was set up and he sat behind me in the doorway, and as I played with the toy train, I was sexually assaulted… As a 7-year-old I would say, I would have said he touched my private parts.”
