SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan kicks off tonight’s show

Daniel Bryan says that he’s lucky to be back after getting choke-slammed to hell by Kane on Raw.  Bryan says he shouldn’t have went over to Raw alone. But Daniel Bryan is much like SmackDown, if you knock them down, they’ll come back and hit you twice as hard. Raw is looking pretty weak. It got ransacked by SmackDown a couple weeks back. The GM mentions there’s a good chance that the red brand will be looking to get some payback tonight. Bryan promises to provide a much better show than Raw, and starts off tonight’s show by introducing the new WWE Champion…

AJ Styles comes to a huge pop. Daniel Bryan says that Brock Lesnar has his own hype-man, so it’s only appropriate for Styles to have his own too. Bryan builds up Styles, while mocking Paul Heyman’s promo style. Bryan says that Brock is big and his head is thick, but he will fall to Styles at Survivor Series. Styles says that Heyman is wrong, this isn’t a Rocky movie, this is AJ Styles Production. At Survivor Series, he’ll beat Lesnar and prove that SmackDown is the A-show.

WWE United States Championship match: Baron Corbin (c) vs. Sin Cara

The two men tangle up. Corbin is trying to control Sin Cara, who is flying all over the place. Cara is kicking ass, and Corbin is reeling outside the ring as we go the commercial break. Sin Cara is chasing Corbin around the ring. Corbin enters the ring and Sin Cara tries to springboard in, but eats Corbin’s first instead. Corbin leaves the ring and throws his opponent into the barricade.

Sin Cara fights back, as Corbin tries to toss him into the barricade again. Sin Cara is in control in the ring until Corbin runs in with a big-time clothesline.

After a back-and-forth match, Corbin hits the End of Days to seal the deal on Sin Cara.

Baron Corbin defeats Sin Cara to retain the WWE United States Championship

WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match: Natalya (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Charlotte tries to roll-up the champion for an easy win right from the start. Natalya wiggles through, but Charlotte is still on the hunt. “The Queen” Charlotte sends Natalya into the barrier and then makes her eat a big boot. Flair is kicking ass and has the champion reeling as we go to the commercial break.

Natalya is in control as we return from the break. Charlotte wiggles out of a submission hold and turns the tide. After a back-and-forth match, Natalya tapes out to a Figure Eight leg lock.

Charlotte Flair defeats Natalya to become the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion

Jimmy Uso vs. Chad Gable

Jimmy Uso takes control of the match early on, putting the punishment on Chad Gable. Uso has Gable tanged up in the ropes. Gable’s partner Shelton Benjamin jumps up on the ring apron, which distracts Uso. Gable capitalizes on this distraction and takes out Jimmy Uso by the knee.

Chad Gable is constantly focusing on the knee of Jimmy Uso, who is riving in pain. Uso tries fighting back, but gets crashes and burns. Gable lifts up Uso and drops Uso right on the knee. Gable is solidly in control and takes his time ascending the top rope, Jimmy Uso recovers and takes Gable out by the knee. Uso regains control and takes out Gable with a Rikishi-style back-splash into the corner.

Jey Uso jumps up on the ring apron and annihilates Shelton Benjamin by kicking him in the face. Meanwhile, Jimmy destroys Chad with a superkick in the ring for the win.

Jimmy Uso defeats Chad Gable

UP NEXT: The New Day vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Before the match, The New Day hype their match against The Shield at Survivor Series. They say that The New Day will never betray each other and will be still going strong by WrestleMania season while The Shield will already be split up. Why? Because New Day rocks!

Big E of the New Day controls the early moment of the match, as he spears Kevin Owens into the corner. Owens turns the tide and hurls E into the barricade as we go to the commercial break.

When we return from the break Sami Zayn is in controlling Xavier Woods with a submission hold. Owens gets the tag and locks Woods into a sleeper hold. Woods rallies out, punching Owens in the gut, but KO fires back with a kick and a DDT. Owens isn’t able to put away Woods with a pin, so he grabs him by the head and brings him over to Sami Zayn.

Zayn gets the tag and continues the punishment on Woods. But Woods fights out, knocks KO off the ring apron and tags in Big E who dominates Sami Zayn. Big E is sending Zayn to Suplex City. Xavier Woods takes to the air and knocks Owens out of the ring.

But then…The Shield’s music hits. The crowd goes nuts.

The Shield surround the ring. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens exits the ring. The Shield come in to assault The New’s Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods. The Shield are stomping out The New Day. The Usos run down to the ring and assist The New Day. Sheamus and Cesaro are out next. The ring is enveloped in absolute chaos.

Backstage, the women from Monday Night Raw invade the locker-room of the SmackDown women’s division. The Raw women kick everyone’s ass inside that locker-room. Charlotte Flair is on her knees in front of Sasha Banks and the other Raw women.

Meanwhile, in the ring, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe join the brawl. A bunch of other wrestlers from Raw and SmackDown join the fight, including commissioner Shane McMahon. Then Raw GM Kurt Angle brings out Braun Strowman who destroys everyone in his path from Zack Ryder to Shane McMahon to Dolph Ziggler. The Shield drags Shane McMahon around the ring. Sheamus starts punching Shane in the head and then Titus O’Neil appears to spit on Shane’s face. Samoe Joe smacks Xavier Woods in the back with Francesca the Trombone.

Kurt Angle condemns Shane McMahon to a triple powerbomb from The Shield. Angle takes off his suit jacket, revealing a red Raw t-shirt. The Shield pick up Shane and Kurt hits him with an Angle Slam. The Shield pick up Shane once more and send him crashing back to the mat with another triple powerbomb.

College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Week 12 Must-See Team Ranks

Alabama at number one? Check. Clemson at number two? Now that’s a head-scratcher. While the win against Auburn earlier in the season was (and still is) highly impressive, victories over Louisville and Virginia Tech (both now unranked) no longer carry the same weight they once did. With that said, Clemson is more than deserving of a Playoff spot given that they have just one loss on the season and they did defeat a scrappy defensive program in NC State on the road. However, their overall body of work combined with their shaky victories against Georgia Tech and Florida State has to be a bit concerning for a team that is ranked right behind arguably the best all-around team in the country.

College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Week 12

While Miami should feel a bit slighted at being ranked third after beating Notre Dame in dominant fashion, they at least are in the top four and can easily force Clemson out of the Playoff completely assuming they can win their last two regular-season matchups and eventually defeat Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. Although Oklahoma fans may feel a bit disheartened that Heisman Favorite Baker Mayfield and the Sooners just made the Playoff rankings this week, the fact remains that Oklahoma still has a questionable defense, which is an Achilles Heel that was exploited by the Clemson Tigers in the Semi-Finals two years ago (Final Score: Clemson 37 Oklahoma 17).

Ranking Team
1  Alabama
2  Clemson
3  Miami
4  Oklahoma
5  Wisconsin
6  Auburn
7  Georgia
8  Notre Dame
9  Ohio State
10  Penn State
11  USC
12  TCU
13  Oklahoma State
14  Washington State
15  UCF
16  Mississippi State
17  Michigan State
18  Washington
19  NC State
20  LSU
21  Memphis
22  Stanford
23  Northwestern
24  Michigan
25  Boise State

Although Alabama’s victory over Mississippi State on Saturday was not very convincing (won 31-24), the fact that they persevered down the stretch while missing four of their starting linebackers cannot be discounted. When healthy, the Crimson Tide have one of the deepest and all-around dominant rosters in college football.

Dropped From Rankings: Iowa, Iowa State, Virginia Tech
New Additions: Boise State (25), Michigan (24), Stanford (22)

WWE Survivor Series features a battle for brand supremacy, as Raw and SmackDown go to war. The very best from each brand are going to toe-to-toe, and only the best from each brand will make it out with their hands held high. In the main event, WWE Universal Champion “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar will battle WWE Champion “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles in a champion vs. champion dream match for the ages.

Raw General Manager Kurt Angle will lead his brand against Team SmackDown, who are being led by their commissioner Shane McMahon. John Cena and Triple H recently announced their participation in the five-on-five battle for brand supremacy match between Raw and SmackDown. Team Raw is comprised of Kurt Angle (leader), Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, and Triple H (replacing Jason Jordan). Team SmackDown contains Shane McMahon (leader), Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, and John Cena.

Kickoff Show: WWE Cruiserweight Championship match: Enzo Amore (c) vs. Kalisto

WWE.com

Enzo’s reign of destruction is far from finished. Little Enzo has transformed himself into a near unstoppable force in the Cruiserweight division, mostly because of his goons protecting his ass around ringside. If it wasn’t for guys like Drew Gulak, Enzo’s title reign would be pushing up daisies.

I see Kalisto beating the hell out of the loudmouth Enzo. But then at the end, his squad helps him pull off the win once again. Kalisto will likely get screwed at Survivor Series. Kapeesh?

Champion vs. Champion match: Raw Tag Team Champions The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champion The Usos

WWE Survivor Series 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

Sheamus and Cesaro are riding high on a wave on momentum after taking out The Shield’s Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for the Raw Tag Team Championship last week. But don’t discredit the rise of The Usos either.

Last year’s Raw vs. SmackDown Tag Team battle royal came down to The Usos vs. Sheamus & Cesaro. They fought down to the wire and really raised the bar in the tag team division (no pun intended). Last year’s match went to The Bar, but this Survivor Series will have to go to…

Champion vs. Champion: WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz

WWE Survivor Series 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin has been on the rise on the blue brand. But can he really compare to The Miz who is practically a main-eventer with a mid-card title. The Miz controls his own stable The Miztourage which has an alliance with The Bar and “The Big Red Machine” Kane. Corbin might be able to knock off Sin Cara, but The Miz is a completely different animal than Sin Cara.

However, I do see Corbin coming within inches of winning this match, only for his dreams to be smashed via Skull Crushing Finale. A little extra thanks to The Miztourage for the win.

WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

WWE Survivor Series 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

At Survivor Series, The Goddess battles The Queen. WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss will fight a woman she’s never defeated. Charlotte is fresh off her championship win over Natalya.

Charlotte Flair will be only inches away from victory until Natalya runs down to ringside to cost her the match. Natalya is putting her grunge against Flair over her loyalty for the SmackDown brand. All hail the Goddess…

WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defeats WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. WWE Champion AJ Styles

WWE Survivor Series 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

A win for AJ Styles would be a thrilling, shocking moment. But do I see WWE having Lesnar lose two back-to-back Survivor Series? If Styles somehow defeats Brock Lesnar, his stock would rise tremendously. But I really don’t see Styles winning with the former champion Jinder Mahal probably lurking in the shadows. Styles will really bring the fight to Lesnar, but a distraction by Mahal will send Styles crashing via an F-5.

President Of The United States Copy & Pastes Mass Shooting Tweet, Forgets To Change Location

Twitter

Yesterday, a gunman choosing targets at random, opened fire in a rural Northern California town, killing four and injures many others, including children. The Rancho Tehama tragedy happened over a week after the tragic church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas. However, if you were to ask the President of the United States, they’re all one in the same.

In a classic case of “always proofread before hitting send”, it appears that Donald Trump, President of the United States, copy and pasted his Sutherland Springs tweet to offer condolences to the victims of the most recent shooting in California, only he forgot to change the location, effectively sending out the same Tweet twice.

While it may seem like a minor mental error that we all experience, WE aren’t the President of the nation with repeated mass shootings. Trump’s tweet is but a microcosm of both our President and our nation’s gun laws: idiotic, ignorant, out-of-touch and half-assed.

Update: the Tweet was deleted but screenshots will live forever.

At this point, if our lawmakers and Presidents are going to help us, it’s time to start hoping god will.

Our thoughts and prayers go to all the victims and families of all our nation’s tragic mass shootings.

Tehama County Sheriff’s

The gunman that left four people dead and many others injured in a shooting rampage that ended at an elementary school in Northern California on Tuesday has been identified as Kevin Janson Neal.

Neal, who sometimes used the name Smith, was identified after investigators worked the seventh crime scene, which is where the shooting spree came to an end. Neal killed at least four people and hospitalized 10 more – including two children.

Neal was eventually shot and killed by sheriff deputies.

According to authorities, Neal had been feuding with his neighbors, who were also targeted during the shooting. Neal was facing charges of assault, and one of the neighbors had placed a restraining order against him.

The gunman tried to enter Tehama Elementary School, but the teachers placed the school on lockdown after hearing gunshots, preventing the shooter from getting in.

One student was shot and injured at an elementary school after shootings occurred at seven separate scenes near the town of Red Bluff. A second child and a female adult were shot in a truck, authorities said.

Police believe that Neal was picking targets at random.

New Mexico Chemistry Teacher Arrested For Selling Meth … Sound Familiar?

Don Ana County Jail

John W. Gose, a former high school chemistry teacher, has been convicted of cooking meth in New Mexico. On Wednesday, July 19, Gose was sentenced to four years in prison.

New Mexico District Judge Fernando Macias served Gose a nine-year sentence. The first four will be served in prison, and after he is released, Gose must serve five years of supervised probation.

Gose, a 56-year-old former chemistry teacher in New Mexico, pleaded guilty in May to trafficking by manufacturing a controlled substance.

We asked the court for the sentence we felt was appropriate for Mr. Gose,” Doña Ana County District Attorney Mark D’Antonio said in a statement. “We are very pleased that the defendant will have to face the consequences of his illegal and irresponsible decisions.”

Gose was arrested in October 2016 after police discovered glassware, rubber tubing, and the chemicals required to cook methamphetamines during a routine traffic stop. New Mexico State Police later found more chemicals and supplies at his home.

According to investigators, Gose was in possession of the ingredients necessary to yield at least one pound of methamphetamines, which has an estimated street value of $44,800.

via Santa Fe New Mexican:

Assistant District Attorney Tomas Medina told the judge that the methamphetamine was in the final stages of the crystallization process when Gose was arrested. He had faced up to 20 1/2 years in prison.

Authorities say Gose taught high school science in El Paso and middle school science in Las Cruces. According to police reports, Gose told a roommate he used to teach chemistry.

Gose will receive credit for the around seven months he has been incarcerated. Upon release, Gose must complete five years of supervised probation.

People were quick to point out similarities to the hit show Breaking Bad, which tells the story of a former New Mexico high school teacher who begins to manufacture methamphetamine.

So while you’re here, enjoy one of the most iconic scenes from the best television show of all-time.

Texas State University Pledge Found Dead After Initiation Ritual

Texas State University has suspended all greek life activities following the death of Matt Ellis, a fraternity pledge who was found dead after an initiation ritual.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the university, school officials said that Ellis was found unresponsive on Monday morning at an off-campus apartment following a fraternity event.

Ellis, the 20-year-old sophomore from Humble, Texas, attended an off-campus social event at the Phi Kappa Psi apartment on Sunday and was found unresponsive on Monday morning. He was declared dead just before 12:30 PM on Monday after EMS were unable to revive him.

Kelly Bomersbach of the San Marcos Police Department said that it’s unclear if hazing played a role in Ellis’ death.

via NBC News:

It’s unclear if the event was hosted by members of one fraternity or different fraternities.

An autopsy on Ellis has been ordered, but a preliminary investigation suggested alcohol was a factor in the business administration major’s death.

“As a result of this tragedy, I have suspended activities of all Greek fraternity and sorority chapters at Texas State. These chapters are prohibited from holding new-member events, chapter meetings, social functions, and philanthropic activities until a thorough review of the Greek Affairs system is completed,” Texas State President Denise M. Traut said in a statement.

Ellis was studying business management at Texas State University.

The university’s Vice President of Student Affairs said that the school will immediately initiate a review of the school’s Greek system. Following their review, the Office of Student Affairs will propose recommendations for reinstating fraternity and sorority chapters that “demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Texas State and the ideals established by their respective national organizations”.

Texas State University now joins schools like Florida State University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Michigan, which have both suspended their Greek life programs following the deaths of new fraternity members.

Week 12, College Football Schedule 2017: TV Schedule & Games

After a thrilling weekend of ranked college football giants going head-to-head, this week is all about the top-tier programs maintaining a high-level of intensity while competing against inferior opponents. While this may seem like a relatively easy proposition, it’s actually quite difficult for teams that are comfortably in the College Football Playoff (at least for now) to maintain a high-octane level of motivation as the regular season comes to a close. As a result, upsets tend to be fairly prevalent at this point in the season as highly ranked programs attempt to coast through their remaining schedules to receive their respective postseason fates.

Katherine Ross Ridenhour, a 23-year-old teacher at Cox Mill High School, has been accused of having an inappropriate sexual consensual relationship with a student.

Ridenhour, of Concord, has been charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a student. According to Concord police, the 23-year-old was engaged in a relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

According to the Concord Police Department, they launched an investigation after they were notified of a “potential inappropriate consensual relationship” between a student and teacher at Cox Mill High School.

Ridenhour was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a student and taken to the Cabarrus County Magistrate where she received a written promise to appear in court.

This is the latest in teacher/student sex scandals this year. Tenessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student.  Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested.

According to local media outlets, Cabarrus County Schools officials have not said if Ridenhour is still employed in the district.

With only a couple of weeks left in the regular season, highly-touted programs will attempt to finish strong as they compete for just four Playoff spots. Teams such as Wisconsin and Miami control their own destinies as each program could easily put themselves in one of the coveted Playoff spots by winning the rest of their regular season games and both of their respective conference championships. For programs such as Alabama and Auburn, the regular season still has one critical regular season affair to be decided (Alabama and Auburn will square-off in the Iron Bowl in two weeks) before they can even think about competing in and potentially winning the SEC Championship Game. Which teams will continue their streak of dominance? Will any overly-confident programs succumb to unranked opponents down the stretch? Let’s find out.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (16) vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

Instagram Photo

For once, the Bulldogs were actually competitive in a close loss to a now top-ranked Alabama program. Granted, the Crimson Tide were severely depleted at the linebacker position, but it was encouraging to see the Bulldogs running back Aeris Williams rush for nearly 100 yards and two touchdowns. However, quarterback Nick Fitzgerald struggled mightily throwing the football (completed just 54.2% of his passes), which most likely cost his team a chance at upsetting one of the best programs in the country. While the Razorbacks are not even close to being as stout defensively as Alabama, they do have a nice running back in David Williams (5.2 yards per rush attempt this season), who will have to carry this offense without quarterback Cole Kelley who was suspended indefinitely after a DWI arrest. Given the latter situation, the Bulldogs should be able to take care of business against a physical albeit one-dimensional Razorbacks program.

Final Score: Bulldogs 30 Razorbacks 20 Spread: Mississippi State -12.0

TCU Horned Frogs (12) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Instagram Photo

With the exception of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Horned Frogs had never given up more than 30 points in a game all season long until they faced Oklahoma last week. Granted, they were going up against Baker Mayfield and the red-hot Oklahoma Sooners, but it was still painful for TCU to break where they had been so consistent all season long. Unfortunately, the Horned Frogs will have to face their demons quickly as they take on another prolific passing attack in Nic Shimonek and the Red Raiders (70% completion percentage this season). Luckily for the Horned Frogs, the Red Raiders do not possess a dominant rushing game and, being a BIG 12 program, their defense is quite porous. If quarterback Kenny Hill can replicate his tenacity from earlier in the season, the Horned Frogs should be able to rebound in a close one on the road.

Final Score: Horned Frogs 33 Red Raiders 28 Spread: TCU -7.0

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Northwestern Wildcats (23)

Instagram Photo

Despite an unimpressive overall record of 5-5, the Golden Gophers actually have a reputable running back in Rodney Smith (has rushed for more than five yards per rush attempt in three out of his last four games) and a vastly underrated defense (have allowed just 20.4 PPG this season, tied for 25th in the nation). While the Wildcats have a stout defense of their own (have allowed just 23.1 PPG this season, 40th in the nation), their offense is at its best when quarterback Clayton Thorson (2583 passing yards this season) is slinging the football with confidence. However, the caveat with Thorson is his fluctuating accuracy (best completion percentage: 76.7%, worst completion percentage: 52.8%), something that has been detrimental to the Wildcats in their three losses this season. Considering the Wildcats are facing a top-ranked defense this week, I see the wildly inconsistent Thorson having an off week on Saturday, allowing the Golden Gophers to pull off an impressive upset on the road.

Final Score: Golden Gophers 27 Wildcats 23 Spread: Northwestern -7.0

Michigan Wolverines (24) vs. Wisconsin Badgers (5)

Instagram Photo

After losses to both Michigan State and Penn State earlier in the season, the Wolverines are finally back in the rankings thanks to the steady quarterback play of Brandon Peters (four touchdowns, zero interceptions) and their supremely elite defense (16.4 PAPG this season, 9th in the nation). However, Michigan has not faced a reputable BIG 10 opponent in some time, which the Badgers are to put it lightly. Defensively, the Badgers are both opportunistic and disciplined (13.4 PAPG, 3rd in the nation) while their physical running back in Jonathan Taylor (seven yards per rush attempt, 1525 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns) who has shown no signs of slowing down. While Badgers quarterback Alex Hornibrook has been less than perfect this season, he does have more arm strength (9.04 yards per pass attempt) and experience than Peters. As the Wolverines are on the road, the Badgers will have the loud encouragement of their fanbase to spur on what is already an immensely confident and relentless defense.

Final Score: Wolverines 16 Badgers 31 Spread: Wisconsin -7.5

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Miami Hurricanes (3)

Instagram Photo

Although this may seem like a lock for the Hurricanes at home, the Cavaliers are actually better than their win-loss record indicates (6-4). Despite accuracy issues (59% completion percentage this season), quarterback Kurt Benkert has only thrown seven interceptions this season, which is indicative of a game manager that takes what is given to him on the field. With that being said, the Hurricanes epitomize what it means to be an explosive program as their revitalized rushing game led by Travis Homer (6.7 yards per rush attempt this season) combined with their relentless defense (eight turnovers in their last two games) has been practically unstoppable, especially in their two most recent victories. Providing Hurricanes quarterback Malik Rosier can avoid throwing careless interceptions, Miami should be able to avoid being upset at home.

Final Score: Cavaliers 16 Hurricanes 27 Spread: Miami -19.5

SMU Mustangs vs. Memphis Tigers (21)

Instagram Photo

A game that could be overlooked because it involves two teams that are not in a power five conference, this will actually be an exciting contest that pits two of the best passing attacks in the country against each other. What Mustangs quarterback Ben Hicks lacks in accuracy (58.8% completion percentage this season) he makes up for with his diminutive number of picks (seven interceptions this season). It also helps that Hicks has a nice pair of receivers in Courtland Sutton (11 touchdowns, 15.9 yards per reception) and Trey Quinn (1008 receiving yards, 10.5 yards per receptions). Similarly, the Tigers have a quarterback in Riley Ferguson who also struggles with accuracy (60.7% completion percentage this season), but is able to minimize this deficiency as he has only thrown seven interceptions this season. While Tigers wideout Anthony Miller is a stud, the Mustangs have more weapons in the passing game, which will give them a slight edge in will be an exhilarating shootout.

Final Score: Mustangs 43 Tigers 40 Spread: Memphis -13.0

Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgia Bulldogs (7)

Instagram Photo

While the cream has clearly risen to the top in SEC, the Wildcats are actually a fairly competitive team thanks to an underrated rushing game (running back Benny Snell Jr. has rushed for 4.9 yards per game to go with 15 rushing touchdowns) and passing attack (Stephen Johson has thrown just 10 touchdown passes but has not turned the ball over often as he has only thrown four interceptions this season). However, the Bulldogs possess one of the best running games in the country (256 rushing yards per game) and a stingy defense that is formidable against the run (14.5 PAPG, 5th in the nation). While this game could be interesting if the Wildcats good but not great defense can stop the run, the Bulldogs have too much firepower on both sides of the ball to be upset at home.

Final Score: Wildcats 27 Bulldogs 39 Spread: Georgia -21.5

Navy vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8)

Instagram Photo

Although the Midshipmen’s poor defense has cost them three out of their last four contests (30.3 PAPG this season, 90th in the nation), their potent rushing game (369.8 RYPG, 1st in the nation) has kept them in games throughout the season. With that being said, the Fighting Irish have one the better scoring defenses in the country (20.7 PAPG this season, 30th in the nation) and a relentless rushing attack of their own that is led by running back Josh Adams and athletic quarterback Brandon Wimbush. Seeing as how the Fighting Irish will be looking for blood this week after an embarrassing loss to Miami, Navy does not have the defense to break through Notre Dame’s offensive line and will ultimately be overwhelmed when all is said and done.

Final Score: Navy 24 Fighting Irish 40 Spread: Notre Dame -18.0

NC State Wolfpack (19) vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Instagram Photo

With quarterback Ryan Finley struggling recently, the Wolfpack have been reliant on their physical defensive line and their battle-tested running game (Nyheim Hines has carried the ball for 5.5 yards per rush attempt while rushing for seven touchdowns this season) to keep them in tight contests. Conversely, the Demon Deacons offense has actually improved as the season has progressed as quarterback John Wolford (12 touchdowns, two interceptions in last four games) has looked locked in recently and running back Matt Colburn (3.6 yards per rush attempt on October 21st, 7.6 yards per rush attempt last week) has been much more effective in the rushing game. Wake Forest’s much-improved offense going up against a resilient yet beatdown Wolfpack program should give them the edge in this affair.

Final Score: Wolfpack 20 Demon Deacons 29 Spread: Wake Forest -1.5

UCLA Bruins vs. USC Trojans (11)

Instagram Photo

With two of the top three quarterback that could be drafted early in this years NFL Draft going head-to-head in the battle for LA, this becomes one of the most intriguing and incredibly exciting contests of the weekend. While Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen has struggled with his accuracy (has completed less than 60% of his passes in his last four games), his 3094 passing yards on the season combined with his above-average arm strength (8.12 yards per pass attempt) has helped his team be victorious in several shootout victories. Despite struggling earlier on in the season (nine touchdowns and seven interceptions in his first four games), quarterback Sam Darnold has been much more efficient when throwing the football recently (nine touchdowns and two interceptions in his last four games). Darnold’s elevated confidence in conjunction with the Trojans prolific running back in Ronald Jones II (1224 rushing yards, 6.7 yards per rush attempt and 14 rushing touchdowns this season), should allow this USC program to pull away from UCLA in the second half of this contest.

Final Score: Bruins 30 Trojans 37 Spread: USC -16.0

Joel Embiid Net Worth 2017: How Much Is 76ers Center Worth Today?

$

The Philadelphia 76ers are going head-to-head with the Los Angeles Lakers, with one of their rising stars, Joel Embiid, also known by his nickname, “The Process,” set to make the scene. This Cameroon native went through a lot to get to this position, so to get ready for the game, let’s take a look at his net worth and overall career.

Joel Embiid Net Worth 2017: $147 million

Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers center, has an approximate annual salary of $147 million, with the potential of earning$177 million a year.  After playing in just 31 games with the 76er’s during his rookie year, Embiid signed 5-year, $146 million contract extension.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Embiid was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Originally planning to play volleyball professionally, he decided to switch over to basketball as a teenager. Proving a wise choice, he was discovered at a basketball camp and moved to the United States at the age of 16 to pursue a professional basketball career. Embiid got his start with high school basketball, even transferring schools so he could have more playtime.

2013-2016

Instagram Photo

Embiid started his college career at the University of Kansas, where he stayed for one year, before being declared for the 2014 NBA draft. Unfortunately, a foot bone-related injury, as well as the following surgery, caused him to be unable to play in the 2014-2015 and the 2015-2016 seasons, in spite of a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

2016-Present

Instagram Photo

Despite the setback, Embiid got his start with the team in a preseason game against the Boston Celtics, starting in early October 2016, eventually rising to become the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for games towards the end of the year. By the end of the 2017 season, he became the NBA All-Rookie First Team. For the 2017-2018 season, he signed a five-year contract worth $147 million, with the added chance to earn an additional $30 million, depending on earned selections or titles. If he should have another issue, such as with another injury, he is only guaranteed $84.2 million.

Roy Moore Net Worth 2017: How Much Is Roy Worth Right Now?

Roy Moore is knee deep in controversy less than a month away until the general election for the Alabama senate. Seven women have came forward, claiming varying degrees of sexual misconduct against Moore while they were teenage minors or adult women, with one claiming to be as young as 14-years-old at the time of the encounter with Moore. These women claim the Moore either sexually harassed or sexually assaulted when they were teenagers. Moore and his campaign have denied these allegations, labeling them a “witch hunt” and “fake news.”

Despite calls from prominent Republicans to withdraw, Moore maintains his innocence and promises to not drop out of the race. He looks to replace former Senate Jeff Sessions on December 12. He’s already defeated Luther Strange in the primary elections. Now, Moore is looking to take out Democrat candidate Doug Jones, and secure an “almost permeant” seat in the senate.

As the controversy continues, Moore refuses to step aside. Anyway, let’s see how much money he has in the bank…

Roy Moore Net Worth as of 2017: $2 Million

Moore’s net worth tallies up to an impressive $3 million. He takes in roughly $300,000 in earnings. This Republican politician rose from the position of a lawyer to circuit judge, all the way up to the supreme court of Alabama. He also founded his own charity: Foundation for Moral Law. According to an article by The Washington Post, Moore was paid nearly $200,000 a year from his own charity (estimated to be $180,000). The article also states that between the years 2002-2012, he received over $1 million as president of the Foundation for Moral Law. Moore has denied these claims, saying he made about $87,000 a year from this organization.

How Much Money Did Roy Moore Raise For His Senate Campaign?

Republican Roy Moore is currently ahead of his opponent Democrat candidate Doug Jones when it comes to raising money for his campaign. Moore currently leads Jones by a 3-2 margin after the October reporting date, according to campaign finance filings. between April 1 and September 30, Moore’s senate campaign raised an incredible $2.5 million. He has reportedly already spent $2 million, leaving his campaign’s balance at an estimated $543,000.

From September 7-30 alone, Moore was able to raise a substantial amount of money (totaling $1.1 million). Meanwhile, Jones’ campaign brought in $1.6 million from May 8-September 30. Jones’ campaign has an estimated $610,000, after spending roughly $1 million.

The National Republican Committee announced that they would cease funding for Moore due to recent sexual misconduct/assault allegations. NRSC Chairman Cory Gardner suggests that if Moore refuses to withdraw and wins the race, the Senate “should vote to expel him.”

Harvard Is Offering A Brand New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Class

HBO

Colleges are offering classes for essentially anything these days. When I was at Rutgers, a couple of chicks I knew took a Beyonce class. My buddy at Monmouth College took a South Park class. In fact, I just wrote about a Game Of Thrones class being offered UC Berkeley earlier this year.

According to Time, Harvard will begin offering a Folklore and Mythology class that will look at the way the George R.R. Martin’s series and HBO TV show based on those books “echoes and adapts, as well as distorts the history and culture of the ‘medieval world’ of Eurasia from c. 400 to 1500 CE” by exploring ” a set of archetypal characters at the heart of Game of Thrones the king, the good wife, the second son, the adventurer, and so on — with distinct analogues in medieval history, literature, religion, and legend.”

The class will be taught by Sean Gilsdorf, a medieval historian and Administrative Director and Lecturer on Medieval Studies. Gilsdorf will be co-teaching the class with Racha Kirakosian, an assistant professor of German and the Study of Religion.

via Time:

Gilsdorf says that medieval biographies of queens will be prime source material. “Game of Thrones does dramatize nicely some fundamental things going on in medieval courts. Tensions between a queen and the younger women who marry their sons are some ‘Real Housewives of 10th-century Germany’ kind of stuff, where you see these women going after each other,” says Gilsdorf.

Kirakosian, meanwhile, points out that the character of the “vindictive queen” is something shared by both Cersei Lannister and Kriemhild, the main royal character in the medieval German epic Nibelungenlied, which gives students an idea of family rivalries in the Middle Ages. A few other themes are shared by the show and the epic, she says: both stories involve female rulers whose husbands were killed in a hunt and competition with foreign queens at court, for example.

So for all you young bloods out there, if you’re trying to decide between schools, give Harvard a look. Now that they’re offering a Thrones class, I’m starting to think it may be a pretty good school afterall.

Star Wars Battlefront II: COED’s Review & Reaction Roundup

Electronic Arts

First revealed to the public at the annual Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA; Star Wars Battlefront II has finally arrived in stores for fans to salivate over! Featuring three different studios handling multiple aspects of the game, Battlefront II delivers a master class in Star Wars video games with it giant and dynamic battlegrounds and space battles.

Days before release the game has suffered from major backlash due to its use of in-game lootboxes that lock away heroes and strong arms players into spending real-world money to buy more lootboxes in order to unlock in-game items/heroes that should be unlocked at purchase. EA has been quick to adjust the amount of in-game credits (gained by playing matches or completing objectives) players will need to unlock characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader by 75%, so it seems they are keen on listening to the players’ concerns.

Check out our review for Star Wars Battlefront II and a roundup of some others below:

Star Wars Battlefront II COED Review:

Note: We were not provided a review copy of the game and have based this review on the Early Access of the game.

Star Wars Battlefront II may be a flawed game in the way it handles its in game “marketplace” but it never fails to make me feel like I’m truly in the Star Wars universe. Filled to the brim with easter eggs for the most intense Star Wars fans and an incredible single player campaign that feels like a real Star Wars movie, this iteration of the iconic video game franchise builds on what makes it such a fun concept to begin with.

Developed by three different teams within EA: EA Dice, Motive Studios and Criterion Games; Star Wars Battlefront II should feel like three separate experiences but magically it comes together as one cohesive game made for everyone! Whether you are a newcomer with barely any knowledge of the franchise or the biggest fan, Battlefront II is a smart, engaging and mind-blowing experience that will keep you playing for months at a time. Battles are gigantic, sprawling and massive as you fight against 39 other players in giant “Galactic Assaults” or keep it simple with the variety of other modes to play in the game.

Following the backlash over the lack of a single player campaign in 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, EA has worked with Motive Studios to create a unique and original canonical story set in the Star Wars universe. Set after the Battle on Endor where the Death Star has been destroyed, the campaign follows the Imperial special forces group known as the Inferno Squad led by Commander Iden Versio (played impeccably by the incredible Janina Gavankar). Telling this story through the eyes of an Imperial soldier is one that has not been seen in a Star Wars story and it provides fans with a unique perspective on what is going on in the galaxy so far away.

While EA must continue to fix the greedy problems lying in their in-game marketplace, Star Wars Battlefront II is a must play title for any fan of the franchise but still stands on its own enough as a competent shooter to get non-fans in the mix. The high-energy and over-the-top nature of the game’s battles will have Gamers coming back for months on end as EA releases more free updates that include: heroes, maps, games modes and story missions! All in all, EA has crafted together a exciting and explosive blend to create one of the best Star Wars games in recent memory!

COED’s Score: 8.0/10

Star Wars Battlefront II Review Roundup:

via Eurogamer:

DICE goes big in a Call of Duty-baiting package that’s as maddening, uneven and spectacular as the Star Wars films themselves.

via GameSpot:

While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about. But as it stands, the biggest hurdle that Battlefront II will need to overcome–for its simultaneous attempts to balance microtransactions with genuine feeling of accomplishments–is deciding on what type of game it wants to be.

via IGN:

I find my opinion of Battlefront 2 shifts depending on what I choose to expect from it. If I’m looking for a rich Star Wars story alongside a deep competitive shooter, this definitely isn’t it. But in terms of delivering on that Star Wars fantasy, jumping from corner to corner of the galaxy to see as much as it has to offer, Battlefront 2 succeeds in a very fun way. I’m just not sure there’s enough here to keep me interested for very long.

via Polygon:

After playing a limited selection of single- and multiplayer parts of Battlefront 2, I’m optimistic that this game will find favor with fans of the last game, as well as with Star Wars enthusiasts who are looking for a varied world that caters to different skill levels. [Pre-Review]

via Digital Trends:

There’s something special about the Battlefront games, and how they capture the excitement of the beloved films. Star Wars: Battlefront II excels on that front, like its predecessor did, and does it in a smarter, more interesting way. It also offers much more of that experience, with a single-player campaign and plenty of multiplayer modes rounding what feels like a fairly complete package…Still, Battlefront II is much less of a sequel than the Battlefront done correctly. It feels the same, and carries all the same problems, as its predecessor. With a fun but ultimately unremarkable single-player story, returning to Battlefront probably won’t blow many fans’ minds.

Colorado Schools Receiving An Extra $40 Million Thanks To Legal Bud

With Phil Murphy being elected as Governor of New Jersey, it seems as though the Garden State is going to be the next state in the union to legalize marijuana, as they should. The reasons to oppose decriminalizing marijuana are becoming fewer and fewer by the day. The war on drugs, specifically marijuana, is coming to an end sooner rather than later, and it’s all thanks to statistics like this one.

According to the Denver Post, outdated, sagging schools in the state of Colorado will be receiving a $300 million boost from pot sales and other taxes.

In Southeast Denver, new homes are being built off Interstate 70, with a state-of-the-art preK-12 school on the horizon, all of which is being paid for with money collected from legal marijuana taxation.

via Denver Post:

Marijuana excise taxes were used for the first time in 2013-14. In that year, more than $3 million was injected into BEST school construction projects. Nearly $24 million was used the next year. By 2015-16, $80 million in marijuana tax revenue was injected into the BEST program. That included a one-time $40 million payment after Colorado voters decided two years ago to keep and spend more than $66 million in excess marijuana sales revenue.

The state says another $40 million was injected into BEST projects in 2016-17 and another $40 million is projected for the next fiscal year.Other sources have fed the BEST program, including spillover from the Colorado Lottery and from the Colorado Land Board. In all, BEST has funded $1.2 billion for high-need construction projects since 2009.

According to the report, about all of the 27 recipients of the nearly $300 million in BEST construction grants for 2017-2018 were in rural school districts.

Others districts that received funding include the Brush School District, which got more $60 million for a new middle school and to renovate its high school, and Del Norte, which received $45 million for a new preK-12 school.

Teacher Is Punished After Using Wrong Pronoun For 8-Year-Old Transgender Student

$

A teacher from England slipped up when speaking to a transgender student, as he “misgendered” the pupil and now faces a disciplinary hearing. His offense is referring to a transgender boy as a girl. The teacher has already been suspended for six weeks as a result of his alleged “misconduct for misgendering.”

So, how did this pronoun-based offense go down? Look away now if you’re squeamish to obvious microagressions…

Math teacher Joshua Sutcliffe, 27, is in hot water for saying “well done, girls” to two students, one of which was the transgendered pupil. The incident went down at Oxfordshire secondary school. Sutcliffe has apologized to the student he offended. However, he still faces a disciplinary hearing this week, and may be charged with misconduct for misgendering, according to the Evening Standard.

Sutcliffe also works as a church pastor and says that the idea of “gender fluidity” conflicts with his Christian beliefs. He said in an interview with BBC News that, “While the suggestion that gender is fluid conflicts sharply with my Christian beliefs… I have never looked to impose my convictions on others.”

The mother of the transgendered boy complained to the school about the teacher’s offensive wording. He was suspended for six weeks following her complaint.

According to the Daily Mail, Sutcliffe doesn’t believe it’s wrong or unreasonable to refer to a person by their birth gender.

When approached by reporters, the Oxfordshire school told BBC that it would be “inappropriate” to comment about their investigation into the teacher’s conduct.

According to a BBC report, more than 2,000 children, ages three to 18 were referred to a gender identity specialist in the U.K. last year.

The news of Sutcliffe’s suspension comes after similar stories were revealed in the U.S., relating to in-school offenses against transgendered students. Recently, an 8-year-old transgender student and her parents sued a California school for not allowing the student to expression her gender identity. That student was born a boy and now identifies as a female. Meanwhile in New York, another set of parents are suing a school for creating a hostile environment for their 5-year-old kid.
