Wednesday night’s matchup between the San Antonio Spurs (3-0) and Miami Heat (2-1) will be without either of the team’s biggest stars. Kawhi Leonard’s leg injury will sideline him into November, while Hassan Whiteside has been officially ruled out with a lingering bruised knee.

While Leonard has yet to be a factor this season, power forward LaMarcus Aldridge has been picking up the slack. The Heat will have to keep an eye out, as he racked up 20 points in San Antonio’s 101-97 win against the Toronto Raptors. After almost having two 20-point leads disappear in it’s two wins, Miami needs to shut down the Spurs’ leading scorer to secure the decisive win it so desperately needs.

San Antonio heads to Miami dead last in  three-point attempts (17.7) and three-pointers made (4.7), as well as second to last in three-point percentage (26.4). That should allow the Heat to focus their defense within the arc and in the paint, as the Spurs have been their own worst enemy from beyond the three-point line.

In addition to Leonard, Joffrey Lauvergne (ankle) and Tony Parker (quadriceps) are out for the Spurs. Dion Waiters (ankle) and Goran Dragic (thigh) are day-to-day for the Heat.

University of Illinois math professor Rochelle Gutierrez believes that geometry and algebra perpetuate white privilege. One reason is that the Greek terms give Caucasians “unearned credit for the subject.” I wonder if she knows that “algebra” is an Arabic word, meaning “reunion of broken parts.” Way to overlook the Arabs, teach!

Another reason why Professor Gutierrez believes these math subjects promote “white privilege” is because math proficiency promotes discrimination against minority students if they perform poorly relative to their white counterparts.

Professor Gutierrez’ argument was featured in a newly publish mathematics education book for teachers, providing awareness to “identity politics” inclusion in the subject of math.

“On many levels, mathematics itself operates as Whiteness,” she argues, according to Campus Reform. “Who gets credit for doing and developing mathematics, who is capable in mathematics, and who is seen as part of the mathematical community is generally viewed as White.”

The professor argues that subjects such as algebra and geometry perpetuates racism and white privilege. She’s concerned that “curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.”

She claims that the importance of math skills in the real world causes “unearned privilege” to be bestowed upon those with good math skills. And since most math professors are white, they’re more often the ones who acquire this “privilege.”

Gutierrez wonders why math professors receive more grants than “social studies” or “English” teachers.

“Are we really that smart just because we do mathematics?,” she asks. “If one is not viewed as mathematical, there will always be a sense of inferiority that can be summoned,” she says, claiming that minorities “have experienced microaggressions from participating in math classrooms… [where people are] judged by whether they can reason abstractly.”

Gutierrez believes the best way to resolve racial inequality in mathematics is through a method known as “political conocimiento,” which is a Spanish term meaning “political knowledge for teaching.”

The professor concludes her argument with the assumption that all knowledge is “relational,” and “things cannot be known objectively; they must be known subjectively.”

Tensions were heating up Tuesday night on the hockey rink between Anaheim Ducks defenseman Kevin Bieksa and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas. That night, the Ducks defeated the Flyers, with a score of 6-2. But that wasn’t the only time the Flyers lost that night because one of their guys got knocked the f**k out!

Yup, a fight broke out during the game and ended very quickly. Radko Gudas goes down like a pound of bricks. Meanwhile, Kevin Bieksa may just have a WWE or UFC contract waiting for him somewhere down the line. UFC President Dana White approved of Bieksa’s actions, after posting a video of the fight in slow motion on his Instagram page. White said that he “loves it.”

White wrote, “Hockey player throwing and landing a Superman punch on skates. I LOVE IT!!!!”

Pope Francis will talk to European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli, as well as other members of the Expedition 53 crew, as confirmed by the NASA TV schedule. Beyond that, according to Space.com, most of what will happen during the event is said to be under-wraps, so that is all the more reason to watch.

Jordana Grolnick, a New York City actress from Colorado, has become the second woman after Heather Lind to come out with allegations of sexual misconduct against former President George H.W. Bush.

Grolnick accused the 93-year-old former president of telling her a sexually-suggestive joke before squeezing her but while they took a photograph together.

According to Deadspin, Grolnick said the incident took place last year while she was part of a production in Maine. The allegations come a day after Turn: Washington’s Spies actress Heather Lind accused the 41st President of similar misconduct.

Lind also alleged that President Bush grabbed her by the buttocks during a photo-op.

In August 2016, Grolnick was working at a Maine production of Hunchback of Notre Dame. The former president, who summers in nearby Kennebunkport and frequents this theater, caught a performance. He came backstage during an intermission, she says, and she and the rest of the cast gathered for a photo with him. Grolnick now says that other actors had told her before the photo that Bush had a reputation for fondling during photo ops, but she didn’t take it seriously.

“We all circled around him and Barbara for a photo, and I was right next to him,” she says. “He reached his right hand around to my behind, and as we smiled for the photo he asked the group, ‘Do you want to know who my favorite magician is?’ As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, ‘David Cop-a-Feel!’”

Grolnick says others in the room “laughed politely and out of discomfort.” Former first lady Barbara Bush was among those nearby. “[She] said something along the lines of, ‘He’s going to get himself put into jail!’ to which we laughed harder,” Grolnick says.

A representative for former President Bush released a statement about the allegations on the President’s behalf:

“At age 93, President Bush has been confined to a wheelchair for roughly five years, so his arm falls on the lower waist of people with whom he takes pictures. To try to put people at ease, the president routinely tells the same joke — and on occasion, he has patted women’s rears in what he intended to be a good-natured manner. Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate. To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely.”

Grolnick has been a professional theatre actress since graduating from the University of Michigan in 2015.

A Providence, Rhode Island assistant principal has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation of a physical altercation involving a student. The incident occurred at Central High School in Providence, Rhode Island.

In one incident which was caught on camera, Assistant Principal Thomas E. Bacon was recorded pinning a male student to the floor in the cafeteria. In the background, other students surrounded Bacon, with one person shouting, “Tell him to get off!”

The student in the video his 15-year-old Amare Pemberton. Pemberton was charged with two counts of simple assault. Meanwhile, no charges have been filed against Bacon.

Principal Bacon told authorities that he was attempting to escort a Pemberton from the cafeteria because he had cut in line. Bacon says at this point that Pemberton began pushing his way past other students. “I tried to gently guide [the student], who then dropped his bag and raised his clenched fists,” Bacon said.

According to the police report, Bacon said the student “began throwing punches and elbows toward Mr. Scott and myself and yelling, ’Touch me again boy … you’ll be face down. … I’ll clock you.”

Bacon told the police that he tried to restrain the student but the youth continued to resist and they both fell to the floor. But Amare’s mother, Jennifer Pemberton, 43, of Providence, said Bacon kept grabbing her son’s arm.

“The next thing you know, he tackled him,” Pemberton said, referring to Bacon. “He was choking my son. He put a knee on my son’s chest. In the video, everyone can see my son wasn’t being combative.”

Pemberton acknowledges, however, that her son struck Bacon in an attempt to get the principal off of him. Two students from Central High School — who identified themselves as Taylon Rodriguez, 17, and Alex Sanchez, 16 — told a version similar to Amare’s.

The Providence Public School District released a statement regarding Bacon/Pemberton incident:

“Public Schools were alarmed and dismayed by the physical altercation in the cafeteria at Central High School on Monday involving a student and an assistant principal,’ it read. ‘The district immediately contacted the police and put the assistant principal on administrative leave, pending a personnel review. Additionally, the school district has explicitly requested that police investigate the incident in its entirety.”

The Providence Student Union, a local student activist group, called for Bacon’s firing and demanded a public apology from Central High School. In a public statement, the activist group said they want the administration to take steps to prevent similar incidents from happening.

According to authorities, the shooting was not random. Witnesses say they saw the killer flee the scene in a white 1997 Chevrolet van. The gunman’s vehicle was found abandoned later that afternoon. Police are still looking for the shooter.

The white 1997 Chevy van seen fleeing the scene is registered to a man named David Jungerman.

Pickert was shot outside of his Brookside, Missouri home in the 200 block of West 66th Terrace. His wife was home at the time the shooting occurred.

In 2012, Jungerman shot two homeless men who he said broke into his business on Belmont near St. John. No criminal charges were filed, but one of those men lost his leg, sued Jungerman in civil court, and won about $6 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Tom Pickert was one of the attorneys representing the homeless man in that civil case. Police have not said if they believe Jungerman was driving the van or if it was someone else who was driving Jungerman’s van.

Jungerman was a defendant in a case that Pickert recently tried. Pickert, who was a personal injury attorney at Fowler Pickert, LLC had represented a homeless man who was suing Jungerman for shooting him and causing him to have part of his leg amputated.

In the case, attorneys said Jungerman grabbed an AK-47 and handgun and headed to his property without calling the police. Jungerman then shot Jeffery Harris in the back of the leg without warning.

Pickert helped Harris win the case, with Jungerman being ordered to pay $5,750,000.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office

Alfred Dupree, 17, of Acworth, Georgia and Victoria McCurley, 17, of Woodstock, Georgia were arrested on Wednesday, October 25, after the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said they planned to attack Etowah High School. The two Cherokee County high school students will face a judge on Thursday, October 26 for allegedly planning to bomb their high school.

When authorities searched Dupree’s home, they found a journal which revealed his plot with McCurley and a list of his of targets.

Dupree and McCurley face charges including criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit arson, terroristic threats and acts, and possession and/or transportation of destructive device/explosive with intent to kill, injure or destroy any public building.

Both teens are being charged as adults.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s investigators said someone reported the possible plot to the school tip line Monday evening. Police followed up by executing search warrants on the homes of both students.

Wednesday night, neighbor Christina Sovine told FOX 5 News she saw a lot of police cars outside Dupree’s home Monday. She said she grew up with Dupree and they have been close friends since they were in elementary school.

“He likes to play video games, he’s very into video games. His entire family, his dad, stepmother and sister are all very sweet, this is really surprising,” said Sovine.

Parents of students at the school said it was terrifying. One mom said they were pleased the person who found the journal took it seriously enough to notify police.

Before being arrested and charged, Dupree and McCurley were taken for a medical assessment.

Authorities secured a search warrant for both students’ homes. At McCurley’s house, they found a flammable incendiary device. At Dupree’s house, along with his personal journal detailing the plan, police found firearms and a powdered substance.

Robert Horn, the principal at Etowah High School, sent a letter home to parents following the arrest of Dupree and McCurley, saying there are no other suspects and no active threat against the school at this time.

This is to advise that the Cherokee County School District (CCSD) Police Department and Cherokee Sheriff’s Office were notified by a community member of a potential threat on Etowah HS. Immediate action and investigation began, and, as a result, two students are currently in custody. At this time there are no other suspects and no active threat against Etowah HS.

The safety and security of all students and staff members is of utmost importance and CCSD will continue to partner with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office throughout the conclusion of the investigation to insure that this is the case. I will continue to keep you in the loop in this regard. Any threat on school safety/security will not be tolerated and as such these students will also face severe disciplinary action, as well as any applicable criminal charges.

East Haven High School has been evacuated because of a bomb threat and police are investigating.

The bomb threat was left on a voicemail.

According to the East Have Police Department Facebook, they are on scene at the East Haven High school for a report of a bomb threat that was left on a voice mail overnight. They are taking a precautionary sweep with a bomb-sniffing dog.

They anticipate classes to resume shortly and say is no need for anyone to go to the school.

At 10:13 AM EST, East Haven police announced that classes have resumed.

Karen Avrich, an author, is the long-time partner and girlfriend of disgraced former MSNBC political analyst Mark Halperin. While Avrich and Halperin are not married, the two have been together for some time and have a child together, who was born in January 2017.

So, always remember to be careful with what you share with people online. Manley called out this behavior, saying, “Guys need to remember that if someone chooses to share something private like a nude in a way that’s set to disappear, that means they don’t want you to have a permanent copy…Trying to get around that is deeply not OK. Instead, pay them a compliment, tell them they look nice — and don’t wait 24 hours.”
